Oppression and evil work are vanity—The strength of two is better than one—Better is a poor and wise child than an old and foolish king. |
전 4:1 | 내가 다시 해 아래에서 행하는 모든 학대를 살펴 보았도다 보라 학대 받는 자들의 눈물이로다 그들에게 위로자가 없도다 그들을 학대하는 자들의 손에는 권세가 있으나 그들에게는 위로자가 없도다 | So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter. |
Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive. |
Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. |
전 4:4 | 내가 또 본즉 사람이 모든 수고와 모든 재주로 말미암아 이웃에게 시기를 받으니 이것도 헛되어 바람을 잡는 것이로다 | Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. |
The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh. |
Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit. |
Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun. |
전 4:8 | 어떤 사람은 아들도 없고 형제도 없이 홀로 있으나 그의 모든 수고에는 끝이 없도다 또 비록 그의 눈은 부요를 족하게 여기지 아니하면서 이르기를 내가 누구를 위하여는 이같이 수고하고 나를 위하여는 행복을 누리지 못하게 하는가 하여도 이것도 헛되어 불행한 노고로다 | There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail. |
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. |
전 4:10 | 혹시 그들이 넘어지면 하나가 그 동무를 붙들어 일으키려니와 홀로 있어 넘어지고 붙들어 일으킬 자가 없는 자에게는 화가 있으리라 | For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. |
Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? |
And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. |
Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished. |
For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor. |
I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead. |
전 4:16 | 그의 치리를 받는 모든 백성들이 무수하였을지라도 후에 오는 자들은 그를 기뻐하지 아니하리니 이것도 헛되어 바람을 잡는 것이로다 | There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit. |
