Behold, I have given unto you the names of our first parents who came out of the land of Jerusalem; and this I have done that when you remember your names ye may remember them; and when ye remember them ye may remember their works; and when ye remember their works ye may know how that it is said, and also written, that they were good. |

| 힐 5:8 | 또 이제 나의 아들들아, 볼지어다 내가 너희에게 바라는 것이 얼마간 더 있나니, 그 바람이란 너희가 자랑하기 위하여 이러한 일들을 행하지 말고 도리어 너희를 위해 참으로 영원하며 사라지지 아니하는 보물을 하늘에 쌓아 두기 위하여 이 일을 행하여, 참으로 저 귀한 영생의 은사를 너희가 얻는 것이라, 그 은사가 우리 조상들에게 주어졌다고 생각하는 이유가 우리에게는 있느니라. | And now my sons, behold I have somewhat more to desire of you, which desire is, that ye may not do these things that ye may boast, but that ye may do these things to lay up for yourselves a treasure in heaven, yea, which is eternal, and which fadeth not away; yea, that ye may have that precious gift of eternal life, which we have reason to suppose hath been given to our fathers. |
| 힐 5:9 | 오 기억하라, 나의 아들들아, 베냐민 왕이 그 백성에게 한 말을 기억하라. 참으로 사람이 구원받을 수 있는 길이나 방법이 달리 없고, 오직 장차 오실 예수 그리스도의 속죄의 피를 통하여서일 뿐임을 기억하라. 참으로 그가 세상을 구속하러 오신다는 것을 기억하라. | O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world. |

| 힐 5:12 | 그러니 이제 나의 아들들아, 하나님의 아들 곧 그리스도이신 우리 구속주의 반석 위에 너희가 너희의 기초를 세워야 함을 기억하고 기억하라. 그리하면 악마가 그의 강한 바람을, 참으로 회리바람 가운데 그의 화살들을 내보낼 때, 참으로 그의 우박과 그의 강한 폭풍이 너희에게 부딪칠 때, 그것이 너희를 이겨 비참과 끝없는 재난의 심연으로 너희를 끌어내리지 못하리니, 이는 너희가 세워진 반석으로 인함이라, 이는 확실한 기초이니 만일 사람들이 그 위에 세우면 결코 넘어지지 아니할 기초니라. | And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. |
| 힐 5:13 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 힐라맨이 그의 아들들에게 가르친 말이 이러하였으되, 참으로 그가 지금 기록되어 있지 아니한 것을 그들에게 많이 가르쳤고, 또한 지금 기록되어 있는 것도 많이 가르쳤더라. | And it came to pass that these were the words which Helaman taught to his sons; yea, he did teach them many things which are not written, and also many things which are written. |
| 힐 5:14 | 이에 그들이 그의 말을 기억하였던지라, 그러므로 그들이 온 니파이 백성 가운데 하나님의 말씀을 가르치기 위하여 하나님의 계명을 지키며 나아갔나니, 풍요 성에서 시작하여, | And they did remember his words; and therefore they went forth, keeping the commandments of God, to teach the word of God among all the people of Nephi, beginning at the city Bountiful; |
| 힐 5:15 | 거기에서 기드 성으로, 또 기드 성에서 뮬레크 성으로, | And from thenceforth to the city of Gid; and from the city of Gid to the city of Mulek; |
| 힐 5:16 | 또 참으로 한 성읍에서 다른 성읍으로 나아가기를, 이윽고 남방 땅에 있는 모든 니파이 백성 가운데 나아가기까지 그리하였고, 거기서 제이라헤믈라 땅으로 들어가 레이맨인들 가운데 나아갔더라. | And even from one city to another, until they had gone forth among all the people of Nephi who were in the land southward; and from thence into the land of Zarahemla, among the Lamanites. |
| 힐 5:17 | 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 큰 권능으로 전파하여, 니파이인들에게서 넘어간 이반자들 중 많은 자를 부끄럽게 한지라. 저들이 나아와 자기의 죄를 고백하고 회개에 이르는 침례를 받고, 즉시 니파이인들에게로 돌아와 저들이 행한 잘못을 그들에게 보상하기 위하여 열심히 노력하더라. | And it came to pass that they did preach with great power, insomuch that they did confound many of those dissenters who had gone over from the Nephites, insomuch that they came forth and did confess their sins and were baptized unto repentance, and immediately returned to the Nephites to endeavor to repair unto them the wrongs which they had done. |
| 힐 5:18 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 니파이와 리하이가 심히 큰 권능과 권세로 레이맨인들에게 전파하였으니, 이는 그들이 말을 할 수 있도록 권능과 권세를 그들에게 주셨고 또 그 말해야 할 것도 그들에게 주셨음이라 - | And it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi did preach unto the Lamanites with such great power and authority, for they had power and authority given unto them that they might speak, and they also had what they should speak given unto them- |
| 힐 5:19 | 그러므로 그들이 말함으로 레이맨인들을 크게 놀라게 하고, 저들로 깨닫게 한지라. 제이라헤믈라 땅과 주변에 있는 레이맨인 팔천 명이 회개에 이르는 침례를 받고, 그 조상들의 전통의 간악함을 깨닫게 되었더라. | Therefore they did speak unto the great astonishment of the Lamanites, to the convincing them, insomuch that there were eight thousand of the Lamanites who were in the land of Zarahemla and round about baptized unto repentance, and were convinced of the wickedness of the traditions of their fathers. |
| 힐 5:20 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 니파이와 리하이가 거기서 나아가 니파이 땅으로 가니라. | And it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi did proceed from thence to go to the land of Nephi. |
| 힐 5:21 | 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 레이맨인들의 한 군대에 붙잡혀 옥에 던져지니, 참으로 림하이의 종들이 암몬과 그의 형제들을 던져 넣었던 바로 그 옥이라. | And it came to pass that they were taken by an army of the Lamanites and cast into prison; yea, even in that same prison in which Ammon and his brethren were cast by the servants of Limhi. |
| 힐 5:22 | 그리고 그들이 먹지도 못하고 여러 날을 옥에 던져져 있은 후, 보라, 저들이 그들을 잡아서 죽이려고 나아가 감옥으로 들어갔더라. | And after they had been cast into prison many days without food, behold, they went forth into the prison to take them that they might slay them. |
| 힐 5:23 | 그러나 이렇게 되었나니 니파이와 리하이가 마치 불 같은 것에 둘러싸여 있는지라, 저들이 타 죽을까 두려워하여 감히 그 손을 그들에게 대지 못하더라. 그러할지라도 니파이와 리하이는 타지 아니하였나니, 그들은 마치 불 가운데 서 있는 듯하였어도 타지 아니하였더라. | And it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi were encircled about as if by fire, even insomuch that they durst not lay their hands upon them for fear lest they should be burned. Nevertheless, Nephi and Lehi were not burned; and they were as standing in the midst of fire and were not burned. |
| 힐 5:24 | 이에 그들은 불기둥에 둘러싸였으되 그것이 자기들을 태우지 아니하는 것을 보고 그들의 마음이 용기를 얻었더라. | And when they saw that they were encircled about with a pillar of fire, and that it burned them not, their hearts did take courage. |
| 힐 5:25 | 이는 레이맨인들이 감히 그 손을 자기들에게 대려 하지 아니하고, 감히 자신들에게 가까이 오려고도 아니하고 다만 마치 놀라 말 못하는 자가 된 것같이 서 있는 것을 보았음이라. | For they saw that the Lamanites durst not lay their hands upon them; neither durst they come near unto them, but stood as if they were struck dumb with amazement. |
| 힐 5:26 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 니파이와 리하이가 나서서 저들에게 말하기 시작하여 이르되, 두려워 말라, 이는 보라, 이 기이한 일을 너희에게 보이신 이는 하나님이심이라, 이로써 너희가 너희 손을 우리에게 대어 우리를 죽일 수 없음을 보이셨느니라 하더라. | And it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi did stand forth and began to speak unto them, saying: Fear not, for behold, it is God that has shown unto you this marvelous thing, in the which is shown unto you that ye cannot lay your hands on us to slay us. |
| 힐 5:27 | 그리고 보라, 그들이 이 말을 하고 나자 땅이 몹시 흔들리고 감옥의 벽이 마치 금방이라도 땅에 무너져 내릴 듯이 흔들렸으나, 보라, 무너지지는 아니하더라. 또 보라, 옥에 있던 자들은 레이맨인들과 이반자들인 니파이인들이었더라. | And behold, when they had said these words, the earth shook exceedingly, and the walls of the prison did shake as if they were about to tumble to the earth; but behold, they did not fall. And behold, they that were in the prison were Lamanites and Nephites who were dissenters. |
| 힐 5:28 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 암흑의 구름에 덮이더니, 지극히 엄숙한 두려움이 그들에게 임하더라. | And it came to pass that they were overshadowed with a cloud of darkness, and an awful solemn fear came upon them. |
| 힐 5:29 | 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 암흑의 구름 위에 있는 듯한 한 음성이 임하여 이르되, 너희는 회개하라, 너희는 회개하고, 내가 너희에게 보내어 선한 소식을 선포하게 한 나의 종들을 더 이상 멸하려 하지 말라 하더라. | And it came to pass that there came a voice as if it were above the cloud of darkness, saying: Repent ye, repent ye, and seek no more to destroy my servants whom I have sent unto you to declare good tidings. |
| 힐 5:30 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 이 음성을 듣고 본즉, 그것은 우레의 소리도 아니요, 크게 떠드는 소란한 음성도 아니요, 도리어 보라, 그것은 마치 속삭임과도 같은 심히 부드럽고 조용한 음성이었으되, 참으로 영혼에까지 꿰뚫었으며 - | And it came to pass when they heard this voice, and beheld that it was not a voice of thunder, neither was it a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but behold, it was a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it did pierce even to the very soul- |
| 힐 5:31 | 또 그 음성의 부드러움에도 불구하고, 보라 땅이 심히 흔들리며 감옥의 벽이 마치 금방이라도 무너져 내릴 듯이 다시 떨었으되, 보라 그들을 뒤덮은 암흑의 구름은 걷히지 아니하더니 - | And notwithstanding the mildness of the voice, behold the earth shook exceedingly, and the walls of the prison trembled again, as if it were about to tumble to the earth; and behold the cloud of darkness, which had overshadowed them, did not disperse- |
| 힐 5:32 | 또 보라 그 음성이 다시 임하여 이르되, 너희는 회개하라, 너희는 회개하라, 이는 천국이 가까웠음이니 나의 종들을 더 이상 멸하려 하지 말라 하더라. 이에 이렇게 되었나니 땅이 다시 진동하고 벽이 떨었더라. | And behold the voice came again, saying: Repent ye, repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand; and seek no more to destroy my servants. And it came to pass that the earth shook again, and the walls trembled. |
| 힐 5:33 | 또한 음성이 세 번째로 다시 임하여 사람이 이를 수 없는 기이한 말을 그들에게 하매, 벽이 다시 떨고, 땅이 마치 금방이라도 갈라질 듯 진동하더라. | And also again the third time the voice came, and did speak unto them marvelous words which cannot be uttered by man; and the walls did tremble again, and the earth shook as if it were about to divide asunder. |
| 힐 5:34 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들은 그들을 뒤덮은 암흑의 구름으로 말미암아 도망할 수 없었으며, 그뿐 아니라 그들에게 임한 두려움으로 인하여 움직일 수도 없었더라. | And it came to pass that the Lamanites could not flee because of the cloud of darkness which did overshadow them; yea, and also they were immovable because of the fear which did come upon them. |
| 힐 5:35 | 이제 그들 중에 출생이 니파이 사람인 자로, 한때 하나님의 교회에 속하였었으나 그들에게서 떨어져 나온 자가 하나 있었더라. | Now there was one among them who was a Nephite by birth, who had once belonged to the church of God but had dissented from them. |
| 힐 5:36 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 저가 몸을 돌려, 보라, 암흑의 구름을 통하여 니파이와 리하이의 얼굴을 본즉, 보라, 그 얼굴이 실로 천사의 얼굴같이 심히 빛났더라. 또 저가 본즉 그들이 하늘로 그 눈을 들고, 마치 그 보는 바 누군가에게 말을 하고 있거나 또는 그 음성을 높이고 있는 듯한 태도로 있는지라. | And it came to pass that he turned him about, and behold, he saw through the cloud of darkness the faces of Nephi and Lehi; and behold, they did shine exceedingly, even as the faces of angels. And he beheld that they did lift their eyes to heaven; and they were in the attitude as if talking or lifting their voices to some being whom they beheld. |
| 힐 5:37 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 이 사람이 무리에게 소리쳐 그들로 돌아보게 하였더라. 이에 보라, 그들에게 능력이 주어지므로, 그들이 돌아보고 니파이와 리하이의 얼굴을 본지라. | And it came to pass that this man did cry unto the multitude, that they might turn and look. And behold, there was power given unto them that they did turn and look; and they did behold the faces of Nephi and Lehi. |
| 힐 5:38 | 이에 그들이 그 사람에게 이르되, 보라, 이 모든 일의 뜻이 무엇이며, 이 사람들이 더불어 대화하는 이는 누구이냐 하는지라. | And they said unto the man: Behold, what do all these things mean, and who is it with whom these men do converse? |
| 힐 5:39 | 이제 그 사람의 이름은 아미나답이라. 아미나답이 그들에게 이르되, 저들은 하나님의 천사들과 대화하느니라. | Now the man's name was Aminadab. And Aminadab said unto them: They do converse with the angels of God. |
| 힐 5:40 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 그에게 이르되, 우리가 어찌하여야 우리를 뒤덮은 이 암흑의 구름이 걷히겠느냐 하는지라. | And it came to pass that the Lamanites said unto him: What shall we do, that this cloud of darkness may be removed from overshadowing us? |
| 힐 5:41 | 이에 아미나답이 그들에게 이르되, 너희가 반드시 회개하고, 그 음성에게 부르짖기를, 곧 앨마와, 앰율레크와, 지에즈롬이 너희에게 가르친 그리스도를 믿는 신앙을 너희가 갖게 될 때까지 하여야 하나니, 너희가 이렇게 할진대 너희를 뒤덮은 암흑의 구름이 걷히리라. | And Aminadab said unto them: You must repent, and cry unto the voice, even until ye shall have faith in Christ, who was taught unto you by Alma, and Amulek, and Zeezrom; and when ye shall do this, the cloud of darkness shall be removed from overshadowing you. |
| 힐 5:42 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 다 땅을 진동하게 하신 이의 음성에게 부르짖기 시작하여, 참으로 암흑의 구름이 흩어져 없어질 때까지 부르짖었더라. | And it came to pass that they all did begin to cry unto the voice of him who had shaken the earth; yea, they did cry even until the cloud of darkness was dispersed. |
| 힐 5:43 | 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 주위로 그 눈을 들어 그들을 뒤덮고 있던 암흑의 구름이 흩어져 없어졌음을 보았을 때, 보라, 그들은 자신들이 참으로 각자 불기둥에 싸여 있는 것을 보았더라. | And it came to pass that when they cast their eyes about, and saw that the cloud of darkness was dispersed from overshadowing them, behold, they saw that they were encircled about, yea every soul, by a pillar of fire. |
| 힐 5:44 | 또 니파이와 리하이는 그들 한 가운데 있는데, 참으로 저들이 둘러싸였으되, 참으로 저들이 마치 타오르는 불꽃 가운데 있는 듯하였으나, 그것이 저들을 해하지 아니하였고 감옥 벽에 붙지 아니하였으며, 저들은 이루 말할 수 없는, 충만한 영광의 저 기쁨으로 채워졌더라. | And Nephi and Lehi were in the midst of them; yea, they were encircled about; yea, they were as if in the midst of a flaming fire, yet it did harm them not, neither did it take hold upon the walls of the prison; and they were filled with that joy which is unspeakable and full of glory. |
| 힐 5:45 | 또 보라, 하나님의 성령이 하늘에서 내려오사 저들의 마음에 들어가시니, 저들이 마치 불로 채워짐같이 충만하게 되어 기이한 말을 할 수 있더라. | And behold, the Holy Spirit of God did come down from heaven, and did enter into their hearts, and they were filled as if with fire, and they could speak forth marvelous words. |
| 힐 5:46 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 저들에게 한 음성이 임하니, 참으로 마치 속삭임과도 같은 상쾌한 음성이라 이르시되, | And it came to pass that there came a voice unto them, yea, a pleasant voice, as if it were a whisper, saying: |
| 힐 5:47 | 세상의 기초가 놓이던 때로부터 있던 나의 지극히 사랑하는 자에 대한 너희 신앙으로 말미암아, 너희에게 평강, 평강이 있을지어다 하시더라. | Peace, peace be unto you, because of your faith in my Well Beloved, who was from the foundation of the world. |
| 힐 5:48 | 이에 이제, 그들이 이를 듣고 마치 그 음성이 어디에서 오는지 보려는 것같이 그 눈을 들더니, 보라, 그들이 보매 하늘이 열리고 천사들이 하늘에서 내려와 그들에게 성역을 베풀더라. | And now, when they heard this they cast up their eyes as if to behold from whence the voice came; and behold, they saw the heavens open; and angels came down out of heaven and ministered unto them. |
| 힐 5:49 | 또 이 일을 보고 들은 자가 대략 삼백 명 가량이었으니, 이들은 나아가되 기이히 여기지 말며 의심하지도 말라는 명령을 받았더라. | And there were about three hundred souls who saw and heard these things; and they were bidden to go forth and marvel not, neither should they doubt. |
