소개 몰몬서 THE BOOK OF MORMON
소개 앰마론이 성스러운 기록에 관하여 몰몬에게 지시함 - 니파이인과 레이맨인 사이에 전쟁이 시작됨 - 세 니파이인이 데려감을 입음 - 간악함과 믿지 않음과 마술과 요술이 퍼짐. 주후 321~326년경. Ammaron instructs Mormon concerning the sacred records—War commences between the Nephites and the Lamanites—The Three Nephites are taken away—Wickedness, unbelief, sorceries, and witchcraft prevail. [About A.D. 322—326]
몰몬 1:1 그리고 이제 나 몰몬은 내가 보고 들은 바를 기록하여 이를 몰몬서라 하노라. And now I, Mormon, make a record of the things which I have both seen and heard, and call it the Book of Mormon.
몰몬 1:2 앰마론이 기록을 주께 감출 즈음에 내게로 와서, (때에 내가 십 세 가량 되어 내 백성의 배우는 방식을 좇아 어느 정도 학문이 있는 자가 되었더라) 앰마론이 내게 이르되, 내가 보니 너는 진지한 아이요, 보고 깨닫는 것이 빠른즉, And about the time that Ammaron hid up the records unto the Lord, he came unto me, (I being about ten years of age, and I began to be learned somewhat after the manner of the learning of my people) and Ammaron said unto me: I perceive that thou art a sober child, and art quick to observe;
몰몬 1:3 그러므로 네가 이십사 세쯤 되거든 바라노니 너는 이 백성에 관하여 네가 본 바를 기억해 두었다가, 네가 그 나이가 되었을 때 앤툼 땅으로 가서 시므라 칭할 산으로 가라. 거기에 내가 이 백성에 관한 모든 성스러운 새긴 것들을 주께 감추어 두었노라. Therefore, when ye are about twenty and four years old I would that ye should remember the things that ye have observed concerning this people; and when ye are of that age go to the land Antum, unto a hill which shall be called Shim; and there have I deposited unto the Lord all the sacred engravings concerning this people.
몰몬 1:4 또 보라, 네가 니파이의 판은 스스로 취하되, 나머지는 그 있던 곳에 그대로 두고, 니파이의 판에 네가 이 백성들에 관하여 보아 온 모든 일을 새길지니라 하였느니라. And behold, ye shall take the plates of Nephi unto yourself, and the remainder shall ye leave in the place where they are; and ye shall engrave on the plates of Nephi all the things that ye have observed concerning this people.
몰몬 1:5 이에 나 몰몬은 니파이의 후예로서, (나의 부친의 이름도 몰몬이었느니라) 앰마론이 내게 명한 바를 기억하였느니라. And I, Mormon, being a descendant of Nephi, (and my father's name was Mormon) I remembered the things which Ammaron commanded me.
몰몬 1:6 또 이렇게 되었나니 내가 열한 살이 되었을 때, 아버지께서 나를 남방 땅 곧 제이라헤믈라 땅으로 데려가시더라. And it came to pass that I, being eleven years old, was carried by my father into the land southward, even to the land of Zarahemla.
몰몬 1:7 건물이 온 지면을 덮었고, 백성들은 거의 마치 바다의 모래같이 수가 많았느니라. The whole face of the land had become covered with buildings, and the people were as numerous almost, as it were the sand of the sea.
몰몬 1:8 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 이 해에 니파이인과 야곱인과 요셉인과 조램인으로 이루어진 니파이인들과 레이맨인과 레뮤엘인과 이스마엘인 사이에 전쟁이 시작되었나니 이 전쟁은 니파이인들과 레이맨인과 레뮤엘인과 이스마엘인 사이의 전쟁이었더라. And it came to pass in this year there began to be a war between the Nephites, who consisted of the Nephites and the Jacobites and the Josephites and the Zoramites; and this war was between the Nephites, and the Lamanites and the Lemuelites and the Ishmaelites.
몰몬 1:9 이제 레이맨인과 레뮤엘인과 이스마엘인은 레이맨인이라 일컬어졌던지라, 두 무리는 니파이인들과 레이맨인들이었더라. Now the Lamanites and the Lemuelites and the Ishmaelites were called Lamanites, and the two parties were Nephites and Lamanites.
몰몬 1:10 또 이렇게 되었나니 전쟁은 시돈 물가, 제이라헤믈라의 경계에서 그들 중에 시작되었더라. And it came to pass that the war began to be among them in the borders of Zarahemla, by the waters of Sidon.
몰몬 1:11 이에 이렇게 되었나니 니파이인들이 심히 많은 수효의 군사를 함께 모으매, 그 수가 삼만이 넘었더라. 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 이 해에 여러 번 싸웠고, 이 싸움에서 니파이인들이 레이맨인들을 쳐서 이기고 그들을 많이 살육하였더라. And it came to pass that the Nephites had gathered together a great number of men, even to exceed the number of thirty thousand. And it came to pass that they did have in this same year a number of battles, in which the Nephites did beat the Lamanites and did slay many of them.
몰몬 1:12 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 그들의 계획을 철회하매, 땅에는 평화가 정착되었고 대략 사 년 동안 평화가 지속되어 유혈이 없었더라. And it came to pass that the Lamanites withdrew their design, and there was peace settled in the land; and peace did remain for the space of about four years, that there was no bloodshed.
몰몬 1:13 그러나 간악함이 온 지면에 만연한지라, 주께서 그의 사랑하시는 제자들을 데려가셨고, 백성들의 죄악으로 인하여 기적의 일과 병고침의 역사가 그쳤더라. But wickedness did prevail upon the face of the whole land, insomuch that the Lord did take away his beloved disciples, and the work of miracles and of healing did cease because of the iniquity of the people.
몰몬 1:14 또 그들의 간악함과 믿지 않음으로 인하여, 주께로부터 오는 은사가 없었고, 아무에게도 성신이 임하지 아니하였느니라. And there were no gifts from the Lord, and the Holy Ghost did not come upon any, because of their wickedness and unbelief.
몰몬 1:15 그리고 나는 나이가 열다섯 살이 되었을 때 성품이 진지하였던지라, 주의 방문을 받았고, 예수의 선하심을 맛보아 알게 되었느니라. And I, being fifteen years of age and being somewhat of a sober mind, therefore I was visited of the Lord, and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus.
몰몬 1:16 이에 이 백성에게 가르침을 베풀고자 애썼으나, 나의 입이 닫혀져, 그들에게 가르침을 베푸는 것이 금지되었으니, 이는 보라 그들이 고의로 그들의 하나님을 거역하였음이라, 또 사랑하시는 제자들도 그들의 죄악으로 인하여 그 땅에서 데려가신 것이더라. And I did endeavor to preach unto this people, but my mouth was shut, and I was forbidden that I should preach unto them; for behold they had wilfully rebelled against their God; and the beloved disciples were taken away out of the land, because of their iniquity.
몰몬 1:17 그러나 나는 그들 가운데 머물러 있었으되, 그들에게 가르침을 베푸는 것이 금지되었으니, 그들의 마음의 완악함으로 인함이요, 그들의 마음의 완악함으로 인하여 땅은 그들로 인해 저주를 받았도다. But I did remain among them, but I was forbidden to preach unto them, because of the hardness of their hearts; and because of the hardness of their hearts the land was cursed for their sake.
몰몬 1:18 또 레이맨인들 가운데 있던 이 개다이앤톤 도적들이 땅에 들끓으매, 땅의 주민들이 그들의 보물을 땅에 감추기 시작하였으나, 주께서 땅을 저주하신 고로 그것들이 잃기 쉬운 것이 되어, 그들이 보유할 수 없었으며 다시 간직할 수도 없었느니라. And these Gadianton robbers, who were among the Lamanites, did infest the land, insomuch that the inhabitants thereof began to hide up their treasures in the earth; and they became slippery, because the Lord had cursed the land, that they could not hold them, nor retain them again.
몰몬 1:19 또 이렇게 되었나니 요술과 마술과 마법이 있고, 저 악한 자의 권능이 온 땅에 역사되어, 참으로 아빈아다이와 또한 레이맨인 사무엘의 모든 말이 성취되기에 이르렀느니라. And it came to pass that there were sorceries, and witchcrafts, and magics; and the power of the evil one was wrought upon all the face of the land, even unto the fulfilling of all the words of Abinadi, and also Samuel the Lamanite.
