소개	사마리아인들이 돕겠다고 나서자 일이 지체되고 고소사태가 벌어져 성전과 예루살렘 성벽의 건축이 중단됨.	Samaritans offer help, then hinder the work—Building of temple and of walls of Jerusalem ceases.
스 4:1	사로잡혔던 자들의 자손이 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 성전을 건축한다 함을 유다와 베냐민의 대적이 듣고	Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;
스 4:2	스룹바벨과 족장들에게 나아와 이르되 우리도 너희와 함께 건축하게 하라 우리도 너희 같이 너희 하나님을 찾노라 앗수르 왕 에살핫돈이 우리를 이리로 오게 한 날부터 우리가 하나님께 제사를 드리노라 하니	Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.
스 4:3	스룹바벨과 예수아와 기타 이스라엘 족장들이 이르되 우리 하나님의 성전을 건축하는 데 너희는 우리와 상관이 없느니라 바사 왕 고레스가 우리에게 명령하신 대로 우리가 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 위하여 홀로 건축하리라 하였더니	But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
스 4:4	이로부터 그 땅 백성이 유다 백성의 손을 약하게 하여 그 건축을 방해하되	Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
스 4:5	바사 왕 고레스의 시대부터 바사 왕 다리오가 즉위할 때까지 관리들에게 뇌물을 주어 그 계획을 막았으며	And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
스 4:6	또 아하수에로가 즉위할 때에 그들이 글을 올려 유다와 예루살렘 주민을 고발하니라	And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
스 4:7	아닥사스다 때에 비슬람과 미드르닷과 다브엘과 그의 동료들이 바사 왕 아닥사스다에게 글을 올렸으니 그 글은 아람 문자와 아람 방언으로 써서 진술하였더라	And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.
스 4:8	방백 르훔과 서기관 심새가 아닥사스다 왕에게 올려 예루살렘 백성을 고발한 그 글에	Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:
스 4:9	방백 르훔과 서기관 심새와 그의 동료 디나 사람과 아바삿 사람과 다블래 사람과 아바새 사람과 아렉 사람과 바벨론 사람과 수산 사람과 데해 사람과 엘람 사람과	Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,
스 4:10	그 밖에 백성 곧 존귀한 오스납발이 사마리아 성과 유브라데 강 건너편 다른 땅에 옮겨 둔 자들과 함께 고발한다 하였더라	And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.
스 4:11	아닥사스다 왕에게 올린 그 글의 초본은 이러하니 강 건너편에 있는 신하들은	This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.
스 4:12	왕에게 아뢰나이다 당신에게서 우리에게로 올라온 유다 사람들이 예루살렘에 이르러 이 패역하고 악한 성읍을 건축하는데 이미 그 기초를 수축하고 성곽을 건축하오니	Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.
스 4:13	이제 왕은 아시옵소서 만일 이 성읍을 건축하고 그 성곽을 완공하면 저 무리가 다시는 조공과 관세와 통행세를 바치지 아니하리니 결국 왕들에게 손해가 되리이다	Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.
스 4:14	우리가 이제 왕궁의 소금을 먹으므로 왕이 수치 당함을 차마 보지 못하여 사람을 보내어 왕에게 아뢰오니	Now because we have maintenance from the king’s palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;
스 4:15	왕은 조상들의 사기를 살펴보시면 그 사기에서 이 성읍은 패역한 성읍이라 예로부터 그 중에서 항상 반역하는 일을 행하여 왕들과 각 도에 손해가 된 것을 보시고 아실지라 이 성읍이 무너짐도 이 때문이니이다	That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.
스 4:16	이제 감히 왕에게 아뢰오니 이 성읍이 중건되어 성곽이 준공되면 이로 말미암아 왕의 강 건너편 영지가 없어지리이다 하였더라	We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
스 4:17	왕이 방백 르훔과 서기관 심새와 사마리아에 거주하는 그들 동관들과 강 건너편 다른 땅 백성에게 조서를 내리니 일렀으되 너희는 평안할지어다	Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.
스 4:18	너희가 올린 글을 내 앞에서 낭독시키고	The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.
스 4:19	명령하여 살펴보니 과연 이 성읍이 예로부터 왕들을 거역하며 그 중에서 항상 패역하고 반역하는 일을 행하였으며	And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
스 4:20	옛적에는 예루살렘을 다스리는 큰 군왕들이 있어서 강 건너편 모든 땅이 그들에게 조공과 관세와 통행세를 다 바쳤도다	There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.
스 4:21	이제 너희는 명령을 전하여 그 사람들에게 공사를 그치게 하여 그 성을 건축하지 못하게 하고 내가 다시 조서 내리기를 기다리라	Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.
스 4:22	너희는 삼가서 이 일에 게으르지 말라 어찌하여 화를 더하여 왕들에게 손해가 되게 하랴 하였더라	Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
스 4:23	아닥사스다 왕의 조서 초본이 르훔과 서기관 심새와 그의 동료 앞에서 낭독되매 그들이 예루살렘으로 급히 가서 유다 사람들을 보고 권력으로 억제하여 그 공사를 그치게 하니	Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
스 4:24	이에 예루살렘에서 하나님의 성전 공사가 바사 왕 다리오 제이년까지 중단되니라	Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
