소개 전에 소돔이 사람의 손을 대지 않고 경각간에 무너지더니 이제 처녀 내 백성의 죄가 소돔의 죄악보다 중하도다 The estate of Zion is pitiful because of sin and iniquity.

 
애 4:1 슬프다 어찌 그리 금이 빛을 잃고 순금이 변질하였으며 성소의 돌들이 거리 어귀마다 쏟아졌는고 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

 
애 4:2 순금에 비할 만큼 보배로운 시온의 아들들이 어찌 그리 토기장이가 만든 질항아리 같이 여김이 되었는고 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

 
애 4:3 들개들도 젖을 주어 그들의 새끼를 먹이나 딸 내 백성은 잔인하여 마치 광야의 타조 같도다 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

 
애 4:4 젖먹이가 목말라서 혀가 입천장에 붙음이여 어린 아이들이 떡을 구하나 떼어 줄 사람이 없도다 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

 
애 4:5 맛있는 음식을 먹던 자들이 외롭게 거리 거리에 있으며 이전에는 붉은 옷을 입고 자라난 자들이 이제는 거름더미를 안았도다 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

 
애 4:6 전에 소돔이 사람의 손을 대지 아니하였는데도 순식간에 무너지더니 이제는 딸 내 백성의 죄가 소돔의 죄악보다 무겁도다 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

 
애 4:7 전에는 존귀한 자들의 몸이 눈보다 깨끗하고 젖보다 희며 산호들보다 붉어 그들의 윤택함이 갈아서 빛낸 청옥 같더니 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

 
애 4:8 이제는 그들의 얼굴이 숯보다 검고 그들의 가죽이 뼈들에 붙어 막대기 같이 말랐으니 어느 거리에서든지 알아볼 사람이 없도다 Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

 
애 4:9 칼에 죽은 자들이 주려 죽은 자들보다 나음은 토지 소산이 끊어지므로 그들은 찔림 받은 자들처럼 점점 쇠약하여 감이로다 They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

 
애 4:10 딸 내 백성이 멸망할 때에 자비로운 부녀들이 자기들의 손으로 자기들의 자녀들을 삶아 먹었도다 The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

 
애 4:11 여호와께서 그의 분을 내시며 그의 맹렬한 진노를 쏟으심이여 시온에 불을 지르사 그 터를 사르셨도다 The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

 
애 4:12 대적과 원수가 예루살렘 성문으로 들어갈 줄은 세상의 모든 왕들과 천하 모든 백성이 믿지 못하였었도다 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

 
애 4:13 그의 선지자들의 죄들과 제사장들의 죄악들 때문이니 그들이 성읍 안에서 의인들의 피를 흘렸도다 For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,

 
애 4:14 그들이 거리 거리에서 맹인 같이 방황함이여 그들의 옷들이 피에 더러워졌으므로 그들이 만질 수 없도다 They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.

 
애 4:15 사람들이 그들에게 외쳐 이르기를 저리 가라 부정하다, 저리 가라, 저리 가라, 만지지 말라 하였음이여 그들이 도망하여 방황할 때에 이방인들이 말하기를 그들이 다시는 여기서 살지 못하리라 하였도다 They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.

 
애 4:16 여호와께서 노하여 그들을 흩으시고 다시는 돌보지 아니하시리니 그들이 제사장들을 높이지 아니하였으며 장로들을 대접하지 아니하였음이로다 The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.

 
애 4:17 우리가 헛되이 도움을 바라므로 우리의 눈이 상함이여 우리를 구원하지 못할 나라를 바라보고 바라보았도다 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

 
애 4:18 그들이 우리의 걸음을 엿보니 우리가 거리마다 다 다닐 수 없음이여 우리의 끝이 가깝고 우리의 날들이 다하였으며 우리의 종말이 이르렀도다 They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

 
애 4:19 우리를 뒤쫓는 자들이 하늘의 독수리들보다 빠름이여 산 꼭대기까지도 뒤쫓으며 광야에서도 우리를 잡으려고 매복하였도다 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

 
애 4:20 우리의 콧김 곧 여호와께서 기름 부으신 자가 그들의 함정에 빠졌음이여 우리가 그를 가리키며 전에 이르기를 우리가 그의 그늘 아래에서 이방인들 중에 살겠다 하던 자로다 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

 
애 4:21 우스 땅에 사는 딸 에돔아 즐거워하며 기뻐하라 잔이 네게도 이를지니 네가 취하여 벌거벗으리라 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

 
애 4:22 딸 시온아 네 죄악의 형벌이 다하였으니 주께서 다시는 너로 사로잡혀 가지 아니하게 하시리로다 딸 에돔아 주께서 네 죄악을 벌하시며 네 허물을 드러내시리로다 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.
