모사 4:1 그리고 이제 이렇게 되었나니 베냐민 왕이 주의 천사에 의해 그에게 전달된 말씀을 말하기를 마치고, 그 눈을 들어 무리를 둘러보았더니, 보라 그들이 땅에 엎드러졌으니, 이는 주의 두려움이 그들에게 임하였음이라. And now, it came to pass that when king Benjamin had made an end of speaking the words which had been delivered unto him by the angel of the Lord, that he cast his eyes round about on the multitude, and behold they had fallen to the earth, for the fear of the Lord had come upon them.
모사 4:2 또 그들은 스스로가 자기 자신의 속된 상태에 있어, 실로 땅의 티끌보다 못함을 보았고, 이에 그들이 모두 한 목소리로 크게 부르짖어 이르되, 오 긍휼히 여기시고 그리스도의 속죄의 피를 적용하사 우리로 우리의 죄 사하심을 받게 하시옵고, 우리의 마음이 청결하게 되게 하시옵소서. 이는 우리가, 하늘과 땅과 만물을 창조하셨고, 사람의 자녀들 가운데 내려오실 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도를 믿음이니이다 하였더라. And they had viewed themselves in their own carnal state, even less than the dust of the earth. And they all cried aloud with one voice, saying: O have mercy, and apply the atoning blood of Christ that we may receive forgiveness of our sins, and our hearts may be purified; for we believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who created heaven and earth, and all things; who shall come down among the children of men.
모사 4:3 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 이 말을 하고 나자 주의 영이 그들에게 임하신지라, 그들이 기쁨으로 충만하게 되고, 자신의 죄 사함을 받으며 양심의 평안을 얻으니, 이는 베냐민 왕이 그들에게 한 말씀대로, 장차 오실 예수 그리스도를 믿은 그들의 놀라운 신앙으로 인함이었더라. And it came to pass that after they had spoken these words the Spirit of the Lord came upon them, and they were filled with joy, having received a remission of their sins, and having peace of conscience, because of the exceeding faith which they had in Jesus Christ who should come, according to the words which king Benjamin had spoken unto them.
모사 4:4 이에 베냐민 왕이 다시 그 입을 열어 그들에게 말하기 시작하였나니 이르기를, 나의 친구요 나의 형제들, 나의 혈족이요 나의 백성들아, 내가 다시 너희의 주의를 구하고자 하노니, 너희에게 할 내 말의 나머지를 너희가 듣고 깨닫기 바라노라. And king Benjamin again opened his mouth and began to speak unto them, saying: My friends and my brethren, my kindred and my people, I would again call your attention, that ye may hear and understand the remainder of my words which I shall speak unto you.
모사 4:5 이는 보라, 만일 이 시간 하나님의 선하심에 대한 지식이 너희를 일깨워 너희가 아무것도 아니며, 너희가 아무 가치 없는 타락한 상태에 있음을 느끼게 해 주었다면 - For behold, if the knowledge of the goodness of God at this time has awakened you to a sense of your nothingness, and your worthless and fallen state?
모사 4:6 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 만일 너희가 하나님의 선하심과 그의 비길 데 없는 권능과 그의 지혜와 그의 인내와 사람의 자녀들을 향한 그의 오래 참으심과 또한 속죄 곧 세상의 기초가 놓이던 때로부터 예비되어 그로써 주를 신뢰하며 부지런히 그의 계명을 지키며, 자기의 생명이, 내가 뜻하는 것은 죽어야 할 육신의 생명이라, 끝나기까지 신앙 안에 거하는 자에게 구원이 임하도록 하는 속죄의 지식에 이르렀다면 -

I say unto you, if ye have come to a knowledge of the goodness of God, and his matchless power, and his wisdom, and his patience, and his long-suffering towards the children of men; and also, the atonement which has been prepared from the foundation of the world, that thereby salvation might come to him that should put his trust in the Lord, and should be diligent in keeping his commandments, and continue in the faith even unto the end of his life, I mean the life of the mortal body?
모사 4:7 내가 말하노니, 이가 바로 속죄를 통하여 구원을 받는 자니, 이 속죄는 아담의 타락 이래로 있던 자나, 지금 있는 자나, 장차 곧 세상의 끝까지 있을 모든 인류를 위하여, 세상의 기초가 놓이던 때로부터 예비된 것이니라.

I say, that this is the man who receiveth salvation, through the atonement which was prepared from the foundation of the world for all mankind, which ever were since the fall of Adam, or who are, or who ever shall be, even unto the end of the world.
모사 4:8 또 이제 이것이 구원이 임하는 방도이니, 이미 말한 이것 외에 다른 구원은 도무지 없으며, 내가 너희에게 일러준 조건을 제외하고 사람이 구원받을 수 있는 다른 조건도 없느니라. And this is the means whereby salvation cometh. And there is none other salvation save this which hath been spoken of; neither are there any conditions whereby man can be saved except the conditions which I have told you.
모사 4:9 하나님을 믿으라. 그가 계신 것과 그가 하늘과 땅의 만물을 창조하셨음을 믿으라. 그가 하늘과 땅의 모든 지혜와 모든 권능을 가지셨음을 믿으라. 사람은 주께서 이해하실 수 있는 모든 것을 다 이해하지는 못함을 믿으라. Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.
모사 4:10 그리고 또 너희는 너희 죄를 회개하고 버려야 하며, 하나님 앞에서 스스로를 낮추어야 함을 믿으라. 그리고 그가 너희를 용서하여 주실 것을 진실한 마음으로 구하라. 그리고 이제, 만일 너희가 이 모든 것을 믿는다면 너희는 이를 행하도록 하라. And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them.
모사 4:11 그리고 내가 앞서 말한 것같이, 다시 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 만일 너희가 하나님의 영광의 지식에 이르렀은즉, 곧 너희가 그의 선하심을 알았고 그의 사랑을 맛보았고, 너희 영혼에 그토록 심히 큰 기쁨을 있게 하는 너희 죄 사함을 받았다면, 바로 그처럼 나는 너희가 하나님의 위대하심과 너희 자신이 아무 것도 아님과 합당하지 아니한 피조물인 너희를 향한 그의 선하심과 오래 참으심을 기억하고 항상 기억에 간직하며, 지극히 겸손하게 너희 자신을 낮추며 매일 주의 이름을 부르며 천사의 입으로 이야기 된 바, 장차 이를 일을 믿는 신앙 안에 굳게 서기를 바라노라. And again I say unto you as I have said before, that as ye have come to the knowledge of the glory of God, or if ye have known of his goodness and have tasted of his love, and have received a remission of your sins, which causeth such exceedingly great joy in your souls, even so I would that ye should remember, and always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, and your own nothingness, and his goodness and long-suffering towards you, unworthy creatures, and humble yourselves even in the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come, which was spoken by the mouth of the angel.
모사 4:12 그리고 보라, 내가 너희에게 이르노니 만일 너희가 이를 행하면 너희는 항상 기뻐할 것이며, 하나님의 사랑으로 충만하게 되고, 너희의 죄 사함을 항상 간직하게 될 것이며, 또 너희는 너희를 창조하신 이의 영광의 지식 안에서, 곧 바르고 참된 것의 지식 안에서 자라게 되리라. And behold, I say unto you that if ye do this ye shall always rejoice, and be filled with the love of God, and always retain a remission of your sins; and ye shall grow in the knowledge of the glory of him that created you, or in the knowledge of that which is just and true.
모사 4:13 또 너희는 서로 상하게 하려는 마음을 갖지 아니할 것이며, 도리어 평화롭게 살려 하며, 각 사람에게 그에게 당연한 것을 돌리고자 하는 마음을 갖게 되리라. And ye will not have a mind to injure one another, but to live peaceably, and to render to every man according to that which is his due.
모사 4:14 또 너희는 너희 자녀들이 굶주리거나, 헐벗게 되도록 그들을 버려 두지 아니할 것이며, 그들이 하나님의 율법을 범하며 서로 싸우고 다투며 죄의 주인이요, 우리 조상들이 말씀하신 악한 영인 악마를 섬기도록 버려 두지도 아니하리니, 그는 모든 의의 원수라. And ye will not suffer your children that they go hungry, or naked; neither will ye suffer that they transgress the laws of God, and fight and quarrel one with another, and serve the devil, who is the master of sin, or who is the evil spirit which hath been spoken of by our fathers, he being an enemy to all righteousness.
모사 4:15 오히려 너희는 참되고 진지한 길로 행하도록 그들을 가르칠 것이요, 너희는 서로 사랑하고 서로 섬기도록 그들을 가르칠 것이니라. But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another.
모사 4:16 또한 너희 스스로는 너희의 구제를 필요로 하는 자들을 구제할 것이요, 너희는 궁핍에 처한 자에게 너희의 재물을 베풀 것이며, 너희는 구걸하는 자가 너희에게 올리는 간청이 헛되도록 버려 두고, 그를 쫓아 내어 죽게 하지 아니하리라. And also, ye yourselves will succor those that stand in need of your succor; ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need; and ye will not suffer that the beggar putteth up his petition to you in vain, and turn him out to perish.
모사 4:17 혹 네가 말하기를, 저 사람은 자기의 비참을 자초하였도다. 그러므로 나는 내 손을 금하여, 그가 고난을 받지 않도록 내 양식에서 그에게 주거나, 나의 재물에서 그에게 나누어 주지 아니하리니, 이는 그의 형벌이 마땅한 것임이라 하리라. Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food, nor impart unto him of my substance that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just?
모사 4:18 그러나 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 오 사람아, 누구든지 이를 행하는 자 그는 크게 회개해야 하느니라. 또 그가 자기의 행한 바를 회개하지 않는 한, 그는 영원히 멸망하며 하나님의 왕국에 아무 상관이 없느니라. But I say unto you, O man, whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent; and except he repenteth of that which he hath done he perisheth forever, and hath no interest in the kingdom of God.
모사 4:19 대저 보라, 우리는 모두 구걸하는 자가 아니냐? 우리는 모두 우리가 가진 모든 것에 대해, 양식과 의복에 대해, 또 금에 대해, 또 은에 대해, 그리고 우리가 가진 온갖 종류의 모든 부에 대해, 동일한 존재 곧 하나님께 의지하고 있지 아니하냐? For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?
모사 4:20 그리고 보라, 이 시간에도 너희는 그의 이름을 부르며, 너희의 죄 사함을 간구하고 있었도다. 그런데 너희의 간구가 헛되도록 그가 버려 두셨느냐? 아니라, 그는 너희에게 그의 영을 부으시고, 너희 마음이 기쁨으로 충만하게 하시고, 너희 입이 막혀 너희로 말할 바를 찾지 못하게 하셨나니, 너희의 기쁨이 그토록 심히 컸느니라. And behold, even at this time, ye have been calling on his name, and begging for a remission of your sins. And has he suffered that ye have begged in vain? Nay; he has poured out his Spirit upon you, and has caused that your hearts should be filled with joy, and has caused that your mouths should be stopped that ye could not find utterance, so exceedingly great was your joy.
모사 4:21 또 이제 만일 너희를 창조하셨고, 너희가 너희의 생명과 너희가 가진 모든 것과 너희 자신의 전부를 의지하고 있는 하나님께서, 너희가 받으리라고 믿으며, 옳은 것으로서 너희가 믿고 구하는 것은 무엇이든지, 너희에게 허락하여 주신다면, 오 그렇다면 너희가 가진 재물에서 서로 나누어 줌이 얼마나 마땅하냐. And now, if God, who has created you, on whom you are dependent for your lives and for all that ye have and are, doth grant unto you whatsoever ye ask that is right, in faith, believing that ye shall receive, O then, how ye ought to impart of the substance that ye have one to another.
모사 4:22 그리고 만일 죽지 않으려고 너희의 재물을 나누어 달라고 너희에게 간청을 올리는 자를 너희가 판단하고 그를 정죄한다면, 너희에게 속한 것이 아니라 하나님께 속한 너희의 재물을 나누지 않는데 대한 너희의 정죄는 얼마나 더 마땅하겠느냐. 그에게는 너희 생명도 속해 있느니라. 그럼에도 너희는 아무 간청도 드리지 아니하며, 네가 행한 일을 뉘우치지도 아니하는도다. And if ye judge the man who putteth up his petition to you for your substance that he perish not, and condemn him, how much more just will be your condemnation for withholding your substance, which doth not belong to you but to God, to whom also your life belongeth; and yet ye put up no petition, nor repent of the thing which thou hast done.
모사 4:23 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 그 사람에게 화 있을진저. 이는 그의 재물이 그와 함께 멸망할 것임이로다. 그리고 이제 나는 이 세상의 것에 관하여 부유한 자에게 이러한 것을 말하노라.

I say unto you, wo be unto that man, for his substance shall perish with him; and now, I say these things unto those who are rich as pertaining to the things of this world.
모사 4:24 그리고 또, 내가 너희 곧 가진 것이 없으나 매일 지내기에 족할 만큼은 가진 가난한 자들에게 이르노라. 나는 구걸하는 자에게 가진 것이 없음으로 인하여 거절하는 너희 모두를 뜻하노라. 나는 너희가 너희 마음속으로 말하기를, 내가 주지 않는 것은 내가 가진 것이 없는 까닭이나 만일 내가 가진 것이 있다면 주리라 하기를 바라노라. And again, I say unto the poor, ye who have not and yet have sufficient, that ye remain from day to day; I mean all you who deny the beggar, because ye have not; I would that ye say in your hearts that: I give not because I have not, but if I had I would give.
모사 4:25 그리고 이제, 만일 너희가 너희 마음속으로 이를 말한다면 너희가 여전히 죄 없으려니와, 그리하지 아니할진대 너희는 정죄받나니 너희의 정죄가 마땅함은 너희가 받지 못한 것을 탐함이니라. And now, if ye say this in your hearts ye remain guiltless, otherwise ye are condemned; and your condemnation is just for ye covet that which ye have not received.
모사 4:26 그리고 이제 내가 너희에게 말한 이러한 일을 위하여 - 즉 매일 너희의 죄 사함을 간직하여, 너희가 하나님 앞에서 죄 없이 행하도록 하기 위하여 - 나는 너희가 각 사람이 가진 바에 따라 너희 재물에서 가난한 자에게 나누어 주기를 바라노니, 이를테면 주린 자를 먹이며, 벗은 자를 입히며, 병든 자를 찾아보고 구제하되, 영적으로나 현세적으로 그들의 필요에 따라 행함 같은 것이라. And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you?hat is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God? would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants.
모사 4:27 또 모든 일이 지혜와 질서 안에서 행해지도록 할지니, 이는 사람이 그가 가진 힘보다 더 빨리 달음질함이 요구되지 아니함이라. 그리고 또 그는 부지런할 필요가 있나니, 그로써 그가 상을 얻으리라. 그러므로 모든 일은 반드시 질서 안에서 행해져야 하느니라. And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order.
모사 4:28 또 나는 너희가 기억하기 바라노니, 너희 중 누구든지 그 이웃에게서 꾸는 자는, 그가 합의하는 대로, 그가 꾸는 것을 되돌려야 하느니라. 그렇지 아니하면 네가 죄를 범하게 되고, 아마도 네가 네 이웃으로도 죄를 범하게 하리라. And I would that ye should remember, that whosoever among you borroweth of his neighbor should return the thing that he borroweth, according as he doth agree, or else thou shalt commit sin; and perhaps thou shalt cause thy neighbor to commit sin also.
모사 4:29 그리고 마지막으로 너희가 죄를 범할 수 있는 일을 내가 모두 너희에게 일러 줄 수 없나니, 이는 다양한 길과 방법이 많이 있어 내가 이를 셀 수 없음이라. And finally, I cannot tell you all the things whereby ye may commit sin; for there are divers ways and means, even so many that I cannot number them.
모사 4:30 그러나 이 정도는 내가 너희에게 일러 줄 수 있나니, 만일 너희가 너희 자신과 너희의 생각과 너희의 말과 너희의 행실을 살피고 하나님의 계명을 준행하고, 우리 주의 오심에 관하여 너희가 들은 것을 믿는 신앙 안에 계속하여 거하되, 실로 너희 생애의 끝까지 그리하지 아니하면, 너희가 반드시 멸망하리라. 그런즉 이제 오 사람아, 기억하고 멸망하지 말지어다. But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not.
