모사 8:1	그리고 이렇게 되었나니 림하이 왕이 그의 백성에게 말하기를 마친 후, 이는 그가 그들에게 많은 것을 이야기하였으나 그 가운데 조금만을 내가 이 책에 기록하였음이라, 그의 백성에게 제이라헤믈라 땅에 있는 그들의 형제들에 관한 것을 모두 고하였더라.	And it came to pass that after king Limhi had made an end of speaking to his people, for he spake many things unto them and only a few of them have I written in this book, he told his people all the things concerning their brethren who were in the land of Zarahemla.
모사 8:2	또 암몬으로 하여금 무리 앞에 일어서서, 지니프가 그 땅에서 올라간 때로부터 그 자신이 그 땅에서 올라올 때까지 그들의 형제들에게 일어났던 일을 모두 그들에게 낱낱이 이야기하게 하니라.	And he caused that Ammon should stand up before the multitude, and rehearse unto them all that had happened unto their brethren from the time that Zeniff went up out of the land even until the time that he himself came up out of the land.
모사 8:3	이에 그는 또한 베냐민 왕이 그들에게 가르쳤던 마지막 말씀도 그들에게 낱낱이 이야기하고, 이를 림하이 왕의 백성들에게 설명하여, 그들로 그가 하는 모든 말을 깨닫게 하였더라.	And he also rehearsed unto them the last words which king Benjamin had taught them, and explained them to the people of king Limhi, so that they might understand all the words which he spake.
모사 8:4	그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그가 이 모두를 행하고 난 후, 림하이 왕이 무리를 보내어, 그들로 각기 자기 집으로 돌아가게 하니라.	And it came to pass that after he had done all this, that king Limhi dismissed the multitude, and caused that they should return every one unto his own house.
모사 8:5	그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그가 그의 백성의 기록 곧 그들이 제이라헤믈라 땅을 떠나던 때로부터의 기록을 담고 있는 판들을 암몬 앞에 가져오게 하여, 그로 그것을 읽게 하였느니라.	And it came to pass that he caused that the plates which contained the record of his people from the time that they left the land of Zarahemla, should be brought before Ammon, that he might read them.
모사 8:6	이제 암몬이 그 기록을 읽고 나자마자, 왕이 그에게 물어 혹 그가 언어를 해석할 수 있는지 알고자 하매, 암몬이 그에게 고하기를 할 수 없다 하였더라.	Now, as soon as Ammon had read the record, the king inquired of him to know if he could interpret languages, and Ammon told him that he could not.
모사 8:7	이에 왕이 그에게 이르되, 내 백성의 고난으로 인해 비통하게 되어, 내가 내 백성 중 마흔셋으로 하여금 광야로 여행을 떠나게 하여, 그로 말미암아 그들이 제이라헤믈라 땅을 찾도록 하여, 우리를 속박에서 건져줄 것을 우리의 형제들에게 호소하고자 하였느니라.	And the king said unto him: Being grieved for the afflictions of my people, I caused that forty and three of my people should take a journey into the wilderness, that thereby they might find the land of Zarahemla, that we might appeal unto our brethren to deliver us out of bondage.
모사 8:8	그런데 그들이 여러 날 동안 광야에서 길을 잃고, 그럼에도 그들은 부지런하였으나 제이라헤믈라 땅을 찾지 못하고 이 땅으로 되돌아오면서, 많은 물들 가운데 있는 한 땅을 지났고, 사람과 짐승의 뼈로 뒤덮여 있고, 또한 온갖 건물의 잔해로 뒤덮여 있는 한 땅을 발견하였나니, 곧 이스라엘의 만군과도 같은 수많은 백성이 살았던 한 땅을 발견하였더라.	And they were lost in the wilderness for the space of many days, yet they were diligent, and found not the land of Zarahemla but returned to this land, having traveled in a land among many waters, having discovered a land which was covered with bones of men, and of beasts, and was also covered with ruins of buildings of every kind, having discovered a land which had been peopled with a people who were as numerous as the hosts of Israel.
모사 8:9	그리고 그들이 말한 바가 참이라는 증거로서 그들은 새긴 것이 가득 차 있는 스물넉 장의 판을 가져왔는데, 그것들은 순금으로 되어 있었더라.	And for a testimony that the things that they had said are true they have brought twenty-four plates which are filled with engravings, and they are of pure gold.
모사 8:10	그리고 보라, 또한 그들이 가슴판도 여러 개 가져왔으니, 그것들은 크고 놋과 구리로 되어 있으며 아주 온전하니라.	And behold, also, they have brought breastplates, which are large, and they are of brass and of copper, and are perfectly sound.
모사 8:11	그리고 또 그들이 검들을 가져왔는데, 그 손잡이는 없어지고, 그 날은 녹으로 부식되어 있었느니라. 그런데 그 판에 있는 언어 혹은 새겨진 것들을 능히 해석할 자가 이 땅에는 아무도 없으니, 그러므로 내가 네게 말하기를, 너는 번역할 수 있느냐 한 것이라.	And again, they have brought swords, the hilts thereof have perished, and the blades thereof were cankered with rust; and there is no one in the land that is able to interpret the language or the engravings that are on the plates. Therefore I said unto thee: Canst thou translate?
모사 8:12	이에 내가 다시 네게 말하노니, 너는 누구 번역할 수 있는 자를 알고 있느냐? 이는 내가 이 기록이 우리의 언어로 번역되기를 원하고 있음이니, 아마도 이 기록은 우리에게 이 기록의 출처가 되는 멸망당한 백성의 남은 자에 대해 알려 줄 것이요, 아니면 아마도 이 기록은 바로 이 멸망당한 백성에 대해 우리에게 알려 줄 것임이라. 또 나는 그들이 멸망당한 까닭을 알기 원하노라 하는지라.	And I say unto thee again: Knowest thou of any one that can translate? For I am desirous that these records should be translated into our language; for, perhaps, they will give us a knowledge of a remnant of the people who have been destroyed, from whence these records came; or, perhaps, they will give us a knowledge of this very people who have been destroyed; and I am desirous to know the cause of their destruction.
모사 8:13	이제 암몬이 그에게 이르되, 내가 그 기록을 번역할 수 있는 사람을, 왕이시여, 당신께 분명히 말씀드릴 수 있나이다. 이는 그가 고대의 모든 기록을 보고 번역할 수 있는 방편을 갖고 있음이니, 그것은 하나님의 선물이니이다. 그리고 그러한 것들은 해석기라 하며, 명하심을 받지 아니하고서는 아무도 그것들을 들여다 볼 수 없음은, 보려 해서는 안될 것을 보려 하다가 죽을까 함이요. 누구든지 그것을 들여다보도록 명하심을 받은 이, 그는 선견자라 일컬어지나이다.	Now Ammon said unto him: I can assuredly tell thee, O king, of a man that can translate the records; for he has wherewith that he can look, and translate all records that are of ancient date; and it is a gift from God. And the things are called interpreters, and no man can look in them except he be commanded, lest he should look for that he ought not and he should perish. And whosoever is commanded to look in them, the same is called seer.
모사 8:14	또 보소서, 제이라헤믈라 땅에 있는 백성의 왕이 이러한 일을 하도록 명하심을 받은 사람이요, 하나님께로부터 온 이 높은 은사를 가진 이니이다 하더라.	And behold, the king of the people who are in the land of Zarahemla is the man that is commanded to do these things, and who has this high gift from God.
모사 8:15	이에 왕이 이르되 선견자는 선지자보다 더 크다 하는지라.	And the king said that a seer is greater than a prophet.
모사 8:16	또 암몬이 이르되 선견자는 계시자요 또한 선지자니, 아무도 지닐 수 없는 하나님의 권능을 지니지 아니하고는, 아무도 더 큰 은사를 가질 수 없나이다. 그러할지라도 사람은 하나님께로부터 그에게 주어지는 큰 권능을 지닐 수 있나이다.	And Ammon said that a seer is a revelator and a prophet also; and a gift which is greater can no man have, except he should possess the power of God, which no man can; yet a man may have great power given him from God.
모사 8:17	그러나 선견자는 지난 일과 또한 장차 올 일에 대하여 알 수 있으며, 그들에 의해 모든 일이 드러날 것인 바, 더욱이 은밀한 일들이 나타날 것이며, 감추인 일들이 밝혀질 것이요, 알려지지 아니한 일들이 그들에 의해 알려질 것이며, 또한 달리 알려질 수 없는 일들이 그들에 의해 알려질 것이니이다.	But a seer can know of things which are past, and also of things which are to come, and by them shall all things be revealed, or, rather, shall secret things be made manifest, and hidden things shall come to light, and things which are not known shall be made known by them, and also things shall be made known by them which otherwise could not be known.
모사 8:18	이와 같이 하나님은 방편을 마련하사 사람이, 신앙을 통하여, 능한 기적을 행할 수 있도록 하셨으니, 그러므로 그는 자기 이웃에게 큰 유익이 되나이다 하니라.	Thus God has provided a means that man, through faith, might work mighty miracles; therefore he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings.
모사 8:19	이에 이제 암몬이 이 말 하기를 마치매 왕이 심히 기뻐하여, 하나님께 감사를 드리며 이르되, 의심할 여지없이 큰 비밀이 이 판 안에 들어 있으며, 해석기는 의심할 여지없이 사람의 자녀들에게 그러한 모든 비밀을 밝혀 줄 목적으로 예비되었도다.	And now, when Ammon had made an end of speaking these words the king rejoiced exceedingly, and gave thanks to God, saying: Doubtless a great mystery is contained within these plates, and these interpreters were doubtless prepared for the purpose of unfolding all such mysteries to the children of men.
모사 8:20	오 주의 일이 어찌 그리 기이하며, 그는 그의 백성을 어찌 그리 오래 참으시는고, 그뿐 아니라 사람의 자녀들의 이해력이 어찌 그리 맹목적이며 우둔한고, 이는 그들이 지혜를 찾으려 아니하며 지혜가 그들을 다스림을 바라지도 아니함이로다!	O how marvelous are the works of the Lord, and how long doth he suffer with his people; yea, and how blind and impenetrable are the understandings of the children of men; for they will not seek wisdom, neither do they desire that she should rule over them!
모사 8:21	참으로 그들은 목자에게서 도망하여 흩어지고 숲의 짐승들에게 쫓기며 삼킴을 당하는 들양 떼 같도다.	Yea, they are as a wild flock which fleeth from the shepherd, and scattereth, and are driven, and are devoured by the beasts of the forest.
