모사 11:1 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 지니프가 그의 아들 중 하나인 노아에게 나라를 넘겨준지라. 그러므로 노아가 그 부친을 대신하여 다스리기 시작하였으나, 그가 그 부친의 길로 행하지 아니하니라. And now it came to pass that Zeniff conferred the kingdom upon Noah, one of his sons; therefore Noah began to reign in his stead; and he did not walk in the ways of his father.
모사 11:2 이는 보라, 그가 하나님의 계명을 지키지 아니하고, 자기 마음의 욕망을 좇아 행하였음이라. 또 그는 많은 처와 첩을 두었고, 또 그는 자기 백성들로 하여금 죄를 범하며, 주의 보시기에 가증한 바를 행하게 하였나니, 참으로 그들은 음행과 온갖 간악함을 범하였더라. For behold, he did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart. And he had many wives and concubines. And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord. Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness.
모사 11:3 또 그가 그들이 소유한 모든 것의 오분의 일을 세금으로 부과하였으니, 그들의 금과 그들의 은의 오분의 일과 그들의 지프와 그들의 구리와 그들의 놋과 그들의 철의 오분의 일과 그들의 가축의 오분의 일과 또한 그들의 모든 곡물의 오분의 일이라. And he laid a tax of one fifth part of all they possessed, a fifth part of their gold and of their silver, and a fifth part of their ziff, and of their copper, and of their brass and their iron; and a fifth part of their fatlings; and also a fifth part of all their grain.
모사 11:4 그리고 이 모두를 실로 그가 취하여 자기와 자기의 처들과 자기의 첩들과 또한 자기의 제사들과 그들의 처들과 그들의 첩들을 부양하였나니, 이같이 그가 나라의 정사를 바꾸었더라. And all this did he take to support himself, and his wives and his concubines; and also his priests, and their wives and their concubines; thus he had changed the affairs of the kingdom.
모사 11:5 이는 그가 그의 부친에 의해 성별되었던 모든 제사들을 폐하고, 그들 대신에 마음의 교만으로 자고하여진 자들 같은 새로운 자들을 성별하였음이라. For he put down all the priests that had been consecrated by his father, and consecrated new ones in their stead, such as were lifted up in the pride of their hearts.
모사 11:6 참으로 이와 같이 그들의 게으름과 그들의 우상 숭배와 그들의 음행이, 노아 왕이 그의 백성에게 지운 세금으로 지원되었나니, 이리하여 실로 백성들은 죄악을 지원하기 위하여 심히 일을 많이 하였더라. Yea, and thus they were supported in their laziness, and in their idolatry, and in their whoredoms, by the taxes which king Noah had put upon his people; thus did the people labor exceedingly to support iniquity.
모사 11:7 그뿐 아니라 그들도 또한 우상을 섬기게 되었으니, 이는 그들이 왕과 제사들의 헛되고 아첨하는 말에 속은 까닭이라. 이는 그들이 참으로 그들에게 아첨이 되는 것들을 이야기하였음이라. Yea, and they also became idolatrous, because they were deceived by the vain and flattering words of the king and priests; for they did speak flattering things unto them.
모사 11:8 또 이렇게 되었나니 노아 왕이 우아하고 넓은 건물을 많이 짓고, 나무와 온갖 귀한 것과, 금과 은과 철과 놋과 지프와 구리의 세공으로 그것들을 꾸몄으며, And it came to pass that king Noah built many elegant and spacious buildings; and he ornamented them with fine work of wood, and of all manner of precious things, of gold, and of silver, and of iron, and of brass, and of ziff, and of copper;
모사 11:9 그리고 그가 또한 자기를 위하여 넓은 궁궐을 짓고, 그 가운데 보좌를 만들었으니 이 모두는 좋은 목재로 되었고 금과 은과 귀한 것으로 꾸몄더라. And he also built him a spacious palace, and a throne in the midst thereof, all of which was of fine wood and was ornamented with gold and silver and with precious things.
모사 11:10 그리고 그가 또한 자기의 장인들로 하여금 성전 경내에서, 좋은 목재와, 구리와, 놋으로 온갖 세공일을 하게 하였더라. And he also caused that his workmen should work all manner of fine work within the walls of the temple, of fine wood, and of copper, and of brass.
모사 11:11 그리고 대제사들을 위하여 구별해 놓은 좌석들은, 다른 모든 좌석들보다 위에 있었는데 그가 순금으로 꾸몄고, 또 그것들 앞에 흉벽을 쌓게 하여, 그들이 그의 백성들에게 거짓되고 헛된 말을 하는 동안, 그들의 육신과 그들의 팔을 그 위에 편히 두도록 하였더라. And the seats which were set apart for the high priests, which were above all the other seats, he did ornament with pure gold; and he caused a breastwork to be built before them, that they might rest their bodies and their arms upon while they should speak lying and vain words to his people.
모사 11:12 또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 성전 가까이에 망대를 하나 세웠으니, 참으로 대단히 높은 망대라. 어찌 높은지 그가 그 꼭대기에 서서 샤일롬 땅과 또한 레이맨인들이 차지하고 있는 셈론 땅을 내려다 볼 수 있었으며, 심지어 그가 주변의 모든 땅을 살펴 볼 수도 있었더라. And it came to pass that he built a tower near the temple; yea, a very high tower, even so high that he could stand upon the top thereof and overlook the land of Shilom, and also the land of Shemlon, which was possessed by the Lamanites; and he could even look over all the land round about.
모사 11:13 또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 샤일롬이라 하는 땅에 많은 건물을 짓게 하였고, 샤일롬이라 하는 땅 북쪽 언덕에 큰 망대를 세우게 하였으니, 이곳은 니파이의 자손들이 이 땅에서 도망하여 나갈 때 그들을 위한 피난처가 되었던 곳이라. 그가 자기의 백성에게서 세금을 걷어서 얻은 재물로 이같이 행하였더라. And it came to pass that he caused many buildings to be built in the land Shilom; and he caused a great tower to be built on the hill north of the land Shilom, which had been a resort for the children of Nephi at the time they fled out of the land; and thus he did do with the riches which he obtained by the taxation of his people.
모사 11:14 또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 그 마음을 그의 재물에 두었고, 또 그 처들과 첩들과 더불어 방탕한 생활로 그의 시간을 보내었으며, 그의 제사들도 그같이 창녀들과 더불어 그들의 시간을 보내었더라. And it came to pass that he placed his heart upon his riches, and he spent his time in riotous living with his wives and his concubines; and so did also his priests spend their time with harlots.
모사 11:15 또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 이 땅 도처에 포도원을 세웠고, 또 그가 포도주 틀을 짓고 포도주를 풍부히 제조하였나니, 그러므로 그와 또한 그의 백성이 술꾼이 되었느니라. And it came to pass that he planted vineyards round about in the land; and he built wine-presses, and made wine in abundance; and therefore he became a wine-bibber, and also his people.
모사 11:16 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 들어와 그의 백성을 습격하기 시작하되, 소수를 습격하여, 그들이 양 떼를 치고 있는 동안 그들의 들에서 그들을 죽이기 시작하였더라. And it came to pass that the Lamanites began to come in upon his people, upon small numbers, and to slay them in their fields, and while they were tending their flocks.
모사 11:17 이에 노아 왕이 이 땅 주위로 수비대를 보내어 저들을 막게 하였으나 그가 충분한 수를 보내지 아니한지라. 레이맨인들이 그들을 습격하여 그들을 죽이고 그들의 양 떼를 많이 이 땅에서 몰아가니라. 이와 같이 레이맨인들이 그들을 죽이며, 저들의 증오심을 그들에게 행사하기 시작하였느니라. And king Noah sent guards round about the land to keep them off; but he did not send a sufficient number, and the Lamanites came upon them and killed them, and drove many of their flocks out of the land; thus the Lamanites began to destroy them, and to exercise their hatred upon them.
모사 11:18 이에 이렇게 되었나니 노아 왕이 그의 군대를 보내어 저들을 대적하게 하매, 저들이 잠시 밀려나니 곧 그들이 잠시 저들을 몰아낸지라. 그러므로 그들이 그들의 탈취물을 기뻐하며 돌아왔더라. And it came to pass that king Noah sent his armies against them, and they were driven back, or they drove them back for a time; therefore, they returned rejoicing in their spoil.
모사 11:19 이에 이제 이 큰 승리로 인하여 그들이 그 마음의 교만으로 자고하여졌나니, 그들이 그들 스스로의 힘을 자랑하여, 그들의 오십이 레이맨인 수천을 당해낼 수 있다고 말하며, 이같이 그들이 자랑하며 피를 기뻐하며 그들 형제들의 피 흘리기를 기뻐하였으니, 이는 그들의 왕과 제사들의 간악함으로 인함이었더라. And now, because of this great victory they were lifted up in the pride of their hearts; they did boast in their own strength, saying that their fifty could stand against thousands of the Lamanites; and thus they did boast, and did delight in blood, and the shedding of the blood of their brethren, and this because of the wickedness of their king and priests.
모사 11:20 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들 가운데 그 이름이 아빈아다이라 하는 한 사람이 있더니, 그가 그들 중에 나아가 예언하기 시작하여 이르되, 보라, 이같이 주께서 말씀하시며 이같이 그가 나를 명하셨느니라 이르시되, 나아가 이 백성에게 이르기를, 이같이 주께서 말씀하신다 하라 - 이 백성에게 화 있을진저, 이는 내가 그들의 가증함과 그들의 간악함과 그들의 음행을 보았음이니, 그들이 회개하지 아니하면 내가 내 분노 중에 그들을 벌하리라. And it came to pass that there was a man among them whose name was Abinadi; and he went forth among them, and began to prophesy, saying: Behold, thus saith the Lord, and thus hath he commanded me, saying, Go forth, and say unto this people, thus saith the Lord?o be unto this people, for I have seen their abominations, and their wickedness, and their whoredoms; and except they repent I will visit them in mine anger.
모사 11:21 또 그들이 회개하여 주 그들의 하나님께로 돌이키지 아니하면, 보라, 내가 그들을 그 원수들의 손에 붙이리니, 참으로 그들이 속박에 들게 될 것이며, 그들은 그 원수들의 손에 고난을 당하리라. And except they repent and turn to the Lord their God, behold, I will deliver them into the hands of their enemies; yea, and they shall be brought into bondage; and they shall be afflicted by the hand of their enemies.
모사 11:22 그리한즉 이렇게 되리니 그들이 나는 주 그들의 하나님이요, 내 백성의 죄악을 벌하는 질투하는 하나님인 줄 알리라. And it shall come to pass that they shall know that I am the Lord their God, and am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of my people.
모사 11:23 또 이렇게 되리니 이 백성이 회개하고 주 그들의 하나님께로 돌이키지 아니할진대, 그들은 속박에 들게 될 것이요, 주 곧 전능한 하나님이 아니고는, 아무도 그들을 건져 내지 못하리라. And it shall come to pass that except this people repent and turn unto the Lord their God, they shall be brought into bondage; and none shall deliver them, except it be the Lord the Almighty God.
모사 11:24 그뿐 아니라 이렇게 되리니 그들이 내게 부르짖을 때 내가 그들의 부르짖음 듣기를 더디 할 것이요, 또한 내가 그들로 그 원수들에게 매맞도록 버려 두리라. Yea, and it shall come to pass that when they shall cry unto me I will be slow to hear their cries; yea, and I will suffer them that they be smitten by their enemies.
모사 11:25 또 그들이 굵은 베와 재 가운데서 회개하며, 주 그들의 하나님께 간절히 부르짖지 아니할진대, 내가 그들의 기도를 듣지 아니할 것이며, 그들을 그 고난에서 건져 내지도 아니하리라. 이같이 주께서 말씀하시며, 이같이 그가 나를 명하셨느니라 하니라. And except they repent in sackcloth and ashes, and cry mightily to the Lord their God, I will not hear their prayers, neither will I deliver them out of their afflictions; and thus saith the Lord, and thus hath he commanded me.
모사 11:26 이제 이렇게 되었나니 아빈아다이가 이러한 말을 그들에게 하였을 때 그들이 그에게 노하여 그의 목숨을 빼앗고자 하였으나, 주께서 그를 그들의 손에서 건져 내시니라. Now it came to pass that when Abinadi had spoken these words unto them they were wroth with him, and sought to take away his life; but the Lord delivered him out of their hands.
모사 11:27 이제 노아 왕이 아빈아다이가 백성들에게 한 말을 들었을 때, 그도 역시 노하였나니, 그가 이르되, 아빈아다이가 누구이기에 나와 내 백성이 그에게 판단을 받아야 하리요, 아니면 주가 누구이기에 내 백성에게 그러한 큰 고난을 가져오겠느냐? Now when king Noah had heard of the words which Abinadi had spoken unto the people, he was also wroth; and he said: Who is Abinadi, that I and my people should be judged of him, or who is the Lord, that shall bring upon my people such great affliction?
모사 11:28 내가 너희에게 명하노니 아빈아다이를 이리로 데려오라, 내가 그를 죽이리니, 이는 그가 내 백성을 선동하여 서로 분노하게 하고, 내 백성 가운데 다툼을 일으키고자 이러한 것을 말하였음이니라. 그러므로 내가 그를 죽이리라 하니라.

I command you to bring Abinadi hither, that I may slay him, for he has said these things that he might stir up my people to anger one with another, and to raise contentions among my people; therefore I will slay him.
모사 11:29 이제 백성들의 눈이 멀었나니, 그러므로 그들이 아빈아다이의 말에 대하여 그 마음을 완악하게 하였고, 그들이 그때로부터 그를 잡고자 하니라. 또 노아 왕은 주의 말씀에 대하여 그 마음을 완악하게 하였고, 자기의 악한 행위를 회개하지 아니하였더라. Now the eyes of the people were blinded; therefore they hardened their hearts against the words of Abinadi, and they sought from that time forward to take him. And king Noah hardened his heart against the word of the Lord, and he did not repent of his evil doings.
