소개 앰율론이 앨마와 그의 백성을 핍박함 - 만일 기도하면 그들은 죽음을 당하게 됨 - 주께서 그들의 짐이 가볍게 여겨지도록 하심 - 주가 그들을 속박으로부터 건지시매 그들이 제이라헤믈라로 돌아감. 주전 145~120년경. Amulon persecutes Alma and his people—They are to be put to death if they pray—The Lord makes their burdens seem light—He delivers them from bondage, and they return to Zarahemla. 모사 24:1 이에 이렇게 되었나니 앰율론이 레이맨인의 왕의 눈에 호의를 얻은지라. 그러므로 레이맨인의 왕이 그와 그의 형제들에게 허락하여 자기 백성을 가르치는 교사로 임명되게 하였으니, 곧 셈론 땅과 샤일롬 땅과 앰율론 땅에 있는 백성이라. And it came to pass that Amulon did gain favor in the eyes of the king of the Lamanites; therefore, the king of the Lamanites granted unto him and his brethren that they should be appointed teachers over his people, yea, even over the people who were in the land of Shemlon, and in the land of Shilom, and in the land of Amulon.
모사 24:2 이는 레이맨인들이 이 땅들을 모두 차지했었음이라. 그러므로 레이맨인의 왕이 이 모든 땅을 다스릴 왕들을 임명했었더라. For the Lamanites had taken possession of all these lands; therefore, the king of the Lamanites had appointed kings over all these lands.
모사 24:3 그리고 이제 레이맨인의 왕의 이름은 레이맨이었나니, 그의 부친의 이름을 따라 일컬은 것이라. 그러므로 그는 레이맨 왕이라 일컬어졌고, 그는 허다한 백성을 다스리는 왕이었더라. And now the name of the king of the Lamanites was Laman, being called after the name of his father; and therefore he was called king Laman. And he was king over a numerous people.
모사 24:4 이에 그가 자기 백성들이 소유한 각 땅에 앰율론의 형제들 중에서 교사를 임명하였나니, 이리하여 레이맨인의 모든 백성 가운데 니파이의 언어가 가르쳐지기 시작하니라. And he appointed teachers of the brethren of Amulon in every land which was possessed by his people; and thus the language of Nephi began to be taught among all the people of the Lamanites.
모사 24:5 또 그들은 서로 우호적인 백성이었으나, 그럼에도 불구하고 그들은 하나님을 알지 못하였고, 앰율론의 형제들도 그들에게 주 그들의 하나님에 관해서는 아무것도, 모세의 율법도 가르치지 아니하였으며, 아빈아다이의 말도 그들에게 가르치지 아니하였더라. And they were a people friendly one with another; nevertheless they knew not God; neither did the brethren of Amulon teach them anything concerning the Lord their God, neither the law of Moses; nor did they teach them the words of Abinadi;
모사 24:6 그러나 그들을 가르쳐 기록하게 하였고, 또 그들이 서로 편지할 수 있게 하였더라. But they taught them that they should keep their record, and that they might write one to another.
모사 24:7 이리하여 레이맨인들은 부가 늘어나기 시작하였고, 서로 교역하여 강대해지기 시작하였으며, 교활하고 세상의 지혜에 있어 지혜로운 백성이 되기 시작하였나니, 참으로 심히 교활한 백성으로서, 그들 자신의 형제들 가운데를 제외하고는, 온갖 간악함과 약탈을 기뻐하였더라. And thus the Lamanites began to increase in riches, and began to trade one with another and wax great, and began to be a cunning and a wise people, as to the wisdom of the world, yea, a very cunning people, delighting in all manner of wickedness and plunder, except it were among their own brethren.
모사 24:8 그리고 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앰율론이 앨마와 그 형제들에게 권세를 행사하기 시작하여, 그를 핍박하며 자기 자녀들로 하여금 그들의 자녀들을 핍박하게 하기 시작하였더라. And now it came to pass that Amulon began to exercise authority over Alma and his brethren, and began to persecute him, and cause that his children should persecute their children.
모사 24:9 이는 앰율론이 앨마를, 곧 그가 왕의 제사들 중 하나였음과 아빈아다이의 말을 믿고 왕 앞에서 쫓겨난 것이 그인 줄을 알고 있었으므로 그에게 노여움을 품었음이더라. 이는 그가 레이맨 왕에게 복종하고 있었으나, 그럼에도 그들에게 권세를 행사하여 그들에게 부역을 지우고, 그들 위에 감독자들을 두었음이라. For Amulon knew Alma, that he had been one of the king's priests, and that it was he that believed the words of Abinadi and was driven out before the king, and therefore he was wroth with him; for he was subject to king Laman, yet he exercised authority over them, and put tasks upon them, and put task-masters over them.
모사 24:10 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들의 고난이 심히 컸으므로 그들이 하나님께 간절히 부르짖기 시작하였더라. And it came to pass that so great were their afflictions that they began to cry mightily to God.
모사 24:11 이에 앰율론이 그들에게 명하여 그들의 부르짖음을 그치게 하고, 그들을 감시할 보초를 그들 위에 두어, 누구든지 하나님을 부르는 것이 발각되면 죽음을 당하게 하였더라. And Amulon commanded them that they should stop their cries; and he put guards over them to watch them, that whosoever should be found calling upon God should be put to death.
모사 24:12 이에 앨마와 그의 백성들이 주 그들의 하나님께 그 목소리를 높이지는 아니하였으나, 그에게 그 마음을 쏟아 내매, 그가 그들의 마음의 생각을 아셨더라. And Alma and his people did not raise their voices to the Lord their God, but did pour out their hearts to him; and he did know the thoughts of their hearts.
모사 24:13 이에 이렇게 되었나니 주의 음성이 그들의 고난 중에 그들에게 임하여 이르시되, 너희 머리를 들고 안심하라. 이는 너희가 내게 맺은 성약을 내가 알고 있음이요, 내가 나의 백성과 성약하고 그들을 속박에서 건져 낼 것임이니라. And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage.
모사 24:14 그리고 내가 또한 너희 어깨에 놓인 짐을 가볍게 하리니, 곧 너희가 속박되어 있는 동안 참으로 너희가 너희 등에 그것을 느끼지 못할 것이라. 이를 내가 행할 것은 이후로는 너희를 나를 위한 증인으로 서게 하려 함이요, 나 주 하나님은 진실로 내 백성을 그들의 고난 중에 돌아보는 줄을 너희로 분명히 알게 하려 함이니라 하시니라. And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.
모사 24:15 이에 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앨마와 그의 형제들 위에 지워진 짐이 가벼워졌고, 참으로 주께서 그들을 강하게 하사 그들로 쉽게 그들의 짐을 지게 하시매, 그들이 주의 모든 뜻에 즐거이 인내를 가지고 복종하였더라. And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.
모사 24:16 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들의 신앙과 그들의 인내가 심히 크매 주의 음성이 다시 그들에게 임하여 이르시되, 안심하라. 이는 내일 내가 너희를 속박에서 건져 낼 것임이니라 하신지라. And it came to pass that so great was their faith and their patience that the voice of the Lord came unto them again, saying: Be of good comfort, for on the morrow I will deliver you out of bondage.
모사 24:17 또 앨마에게 이르시되, 너는 이 백성에 앞서 가라, 내가 너와 함께 가며 이 백성을 속박에서 건져 내리라 하신지라. And he said unto Alma: Thou shalt go before this people, and I will go with thee and deliver this people out of bondage.
모사 24:18 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앨마와 그의 백성이 밤에 그들의 양 떼를 함께 모으고, 그들의 곡식 또한 일부 그리하되, 참으로 온 밤 동안 그들의 양 떼를 함께 모으더라. Now it came to pass that Alma and his people in the night-time gathered their flocks together, and also of their grain; yea, even all the night-time were they gathering the flocks together.
모사 24:19 그리고 아침에 주께서 깊은 잠을 레이맨인들에게 임하게 하시매, 참으로 그들의 감독자들 모두가 깊은 잠에 든지라. And in the morning the Lord caused a deep sleep to come upon the Lamanites, yea, and all their task-masters were in a profound sleep.
모사 24:20 이에 앨마와 그의 백성이 떠나 광야로 들어갔고, 그들이 온종일 여행하고 나서 한 골짜기에 그들의 장막을 치고 그 골짜기를 앨마라 칭했으니, 그가 광야에서 그들을 인도한 까닭이라. And Alma and his people departed into the wilderness; and when they had traveled all day they pitched their tents in a valley, and they called the valley Alma, because he led their way in the wilderness.
모사 24:21 참으로 그뿐 아니라 앨마의 골짜기에서 그들은 하나님께서 그들에게 자비를 베푸사, 그들의 짐을 가볍게 하시고, 그들을 속박에서 건져 내셨음으로 인하여 하나님께 그들의 감사를 쏟았으니, 이는 그들이 속박되어 있었고 주 그들의 하나님이 아니었을진대 아무도 그들을 건질 수 없었음이더라. Yea, and in the valley of Alma they poured out their thanks to God because he had been merciful unto them, and eased their burdens, and had delivered them out of bondage; for they were in bondage, and none could deliver them except it were the Lord their God.
모사 24:22 이에 그들이 하나님께 감사를 드렸나니, 참으로 그들의 모든 남자와 그들의 모든 여자와 말을 할 줄 아는 그들의 모든 아이들이 다 그 목소리를 높여 하나님을 찬양하였더라. And they gave thanks to God, yea, all their men and all their women and all their children that could speak lifted their voices in the praises of their God.
모사 24:23 그런 후 이제 주께서 앨마에게 이르시되, 너는 서둘러 너와 이 백성을 데리고 이 땅을 벗어나라. 레이맨인들이 깨어나 너를 뒤쫓음이니라. 그러므로 너는 이 땅을 벗어나라. 내가 레이맨인들을 이 골짜기에서 막아 그들로 이 백성을 더 멀리 뒤쫓아 오지 못하게 하리라 하신지라. And now the Lord said unto Alma: Haste thee and get thou and this people out of this land, for the Lamanites have awakened and do pursue thee; therefore get thee out of this land, and I will stop the Lamanites in this valley that they come no further in pursuit of this people.
모사 24:24 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 그 골짜기에서 떠나 광야로 여행해 들어가더라. And it came to pass that they departed out of the valley, and took their journey into the wilderness.
모사 24:25 그리고 십이 일을 광야에 있은 후 제이라헤믈라 땅에 도착하매, 모사이야 왕이 또한 기쁨으로 그들을 받아들이니라. And after they had been in the wilderness twelve days they arrived in the land of Zarahemla; and king Mosiah did also receive them with joy.
