소개 개가 그 토한 것을 도로 먹는 것 같이 미련한 자는 그 미련한 것을 거듭 행하느니라 Honor is not seemly for a fool—Answer not a fool according to his folly—Where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

 
잠 26:1 미련한 자에게는 영예가 적당하지 아니하니 마치 여름에 눈 오는 것과 추수 때에 비 오는 것 같으니라 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

 
잠 26:2 까닭 없는 저주는 참새가 떠도는 것과 제비가 날아가는 것 같이 이루어지지 아니하느니라 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

 
잠 26:3 말에게는 채찍이요 나귀에게는 재갈이요 미련한 자의 등에는 막대기니라 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.

 
잠 26:4 미련한 자의 어리석은 것을 따라 대답하지 말라 두렵건대 너도 그와 같을까 하노라 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

 
잠 26:5 미련한 자에게는 그의 어리석음을 따라 대답하라 두렵건대 그가 스스로 지혜롭게 여길까 하노라 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

 
잠 26:6 미련한 자 편에 기별하는 것은 자기의 발을 베어 버림과 해를 받음과 같으니라 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.

 
잠 26:7 저는 자의 다리는 힘 없이 달렸나니 미련한 자의 입의 잠언도 그러하니라 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

 
잠 26:8 미련한 자에게 영예를 주는 것은 돌을 물매에 매는 것과 같으니라 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.

 
잠 26:9 미련한 자의 입의 잠언은 술 취한 자가 손에 든 가시나무 같으니라 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

 
잠 26:10 장인이 온갖 것을 만들지라도 미련한 자를 고용하는 것은 지나가는 행인을 고용함과 같으니라 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

 
잠 26:11 개가 그 토한 것을 도로 먹는 것 같이 미련한 자는 그 미련한 것을 거듭 행하느니라 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

 
잠 26:12 네가 스스로 지혜롭게 여기는 자를 보느냐 그보다 미련한 자에게 오히려 희망이 있느니라 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

 
잠 26:13 게으른 자는 길에 사자가 있다 거리에 사자가 있다 하느니라 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

 
잠 26:14 문짝이 돌쩌귀를 따라서 도는 것 같이 게으른 자는 침상에서 도느니라 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

 
잠 26:15 게으른 자는 그 손을 그릇에 넣고도 입으로 올리기를 괴로워하느니라 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

 
잠 26:16 게으른 자는 사리에 맞게 대답하는 사람 일곱보다 자기를 지혜롭게 여기느니라 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

 
잠 26:17 길로 지나가다가 자기와 상관 없는 다툼을 간섭하는 자는 개의 귀를 잡는 자와 같으니라 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

 
잠 26:18 횃불을 던지며 화살을 쏘아서 사람을 죽이는 미친 사람이 있나니 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

 
잠 26:19 자기의 이웃을 속이고 말하기를 내가 희롱하였노라 하는 자도 그러하니라 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

 
잠 26:20 나무가 다하면 불이 꺼지고 말쟁이가 없어지면 다툼이 쉬느니라 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

 
잠 26:21 숯불 위에 숯을 더하는 것과 타는 불에 나무를 더하는 것 같이 다툼을 좋아하는 자는 시비를 일으키느니라 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

 
잠 26:22 남의 말 하기를 좋아하는 자의 말은 별식과 같아서 뱃속 깊은 데로 내려가느니라 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

 
잠 26:23 온유한 입술에 악한 마음은 낮은 은을 입힌 토기니라 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

 
잠 26:24 원수는 입술로는 꾸미고 속으로는 속임을 품나니 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

 
잠 26:25 그 말이 좋을지라도 믿지 말 것은 그 마음에 일곱 가지 가증한 것이 있음이니라 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

 
잠 26:26 속임으로 그 미움을 감출지라도 그의 악이 회중 앞에 드러나리라 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

 
잠 26:27 함정을 파는 자는 그것에 빠질 것이요 돌을 굴리는 자는 도리어 그것에 치이리라 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

 
잠 26:28 거짓말 하는 자는 자기가 해한 자를 미워하고 아첨하는 입은 패망을 일으키느니라 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
