| 니전 2:1 | 이는 보라, 이렇게 되었음이니 주께서 나의 부친에게 말씀하시되, 참으로 꿈에 그에게 이르시기를, 리하이야, 네가 행한 일로 말미암아 네가 복이 있나니, 네가 충실하여 내가 네게 명한 것들을 이 백성에게 선포하였음으로 인하여, 보라, 그들이 네 생명을 빼앗으려 하는도다 하셨느니라. | For behold, it came to pass that the Lord spake unto my father, yea, even in a dream, and said unto him: Blessed art thou Lehi, because of the things which thou hast done; and because thou hast been faithful and declared unto this people the things which I commanded thee, behold, they seek to take away thy life. |
| 니전 2:2 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 주께서 참으로 꿈에 나의 부친에게 명하여, 가족을 데리고 광야로 떠나도록 명령하셨느니라. | And it came to pass that the Lord commanded my father, even in a dream, that he should take his family and depart into the wilderness. |
| 니전 2:3 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그는 주의 말씀에 순종하였으며, 그리하여 그는 주께서 명하신 대로 행하였느니라. | And it came to pass that he was obedient unto the word of the Lord, wherefore he did as the Lord commanded him. |
| 니전 2:4 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 그는 광야로 떠나되, 그의 집과 그의 기업의 땅과 그의 금과 그의 은과 그의 귀한 것들을 버려두고, 그의 가족과 양식과 장막 외에는 아무것도 가지지 않고 광야로 떠났느니라. | And it came to pass that he departed into the wilderness. And he left his house, and the land of his inheritance, and his gold, and his silver, and his precious things, and took nothing with him, save it were his family, and provisions, and tents, and departed into the wilderness. |

| 니전 2:6 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 광야에서 사흘을 여행하고 나서, 그는 물이 흐르는 강 옆에 있는 한 골짜기에 장막을 쳤느니라. | And it came to pass that when he had traveled three days in the wilderness, he pitched his tent in a valley by the side of a river of water. |
| 니전 2:7 | 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그는 돌 제단을 쌓고 주께 제물을 드리며, 주 우리 하나님께 감사를 드렸느니라. | And it came to pass that he built an altar of stones, and made an offering unto the Lord, and gave thanks unto the Lord our God. |
| 니전 2:8 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 그는 그 강의 이름을 레이맨이라 하였으며, 그 강은 홍해로 흘러들었고 그 골짜기는 강어귀에 가까운 변경에 있었느니라. | And it came to pass that he called the name of the river, Laman, and it emptied into the Red Sea; and the valley was in the borders near the mouth thereof. |
| 니전 2:9 | 또 나의 부친은 강물이 홍해의 근원으로 흘러 들어감을 보시고는 레이맨에게 말씀하여 이르시기를, 오 네가 이 강을 닮아서 끊임없이 모든 의의 근원으로 흘러들기를 바라노라 하셨느니라. | And when my father saw that the waters of the river emptied into the fountain of the Red Sea, he spake unto Laman, saying: O that thou mightest be like unto this river, continually running into the fountain of all righteousness! |
| 니전 2:10 | 또 그는 레뮤엘에게도 말씀하시기를, 오 네가 이 골짜기를 닮아서 굳건하고 변하지 않으며, 흔들림 없이 주의 계명을 지키기를 바라노라 하셨느니라. | And he also spake unto Lemuel: O that thou mightest be like unto this valley, firm and steadfast, and immovable in keeping the commandments of the Lord! |
| 니전 2:11 | 이제 이 말을 그가 하신 것은 레이맨과 레뮤엘의 완고함 때문이었더라. 이는 보라, 그들은 부친이 환상을 보는 사람이며, 예루살렘 땅에서 그들을 이끌어 내어 그들의 기업의 땅과 그들의 금과 그들의 귀한 것들을 버리고 떠나게 하고는 광야에서 죽게 하였다 하여, 참으로 많은 일에 있어 그들의 부친을 거스려 불평하였음이라. 또 그들은 부친이 그 마음의 어리석은 상상으로 인해 이렇게 행하였다고 말하였느니라. | Now this he spake because of the stiffneckedness of Laman and Lemuel; for behold they did murmur in many things against their father, because he was a visionary man, and had led them out of the land of Jerusalem, to leave the land of their inheritance, and their gold, and their silver, and their precious things, to perish in the wilderness. And this they said he had done because of the foolish imaginations of his heart. |
| 니전 2:12 | 이같이 레이맨과 레뮤엘은 연장자들이면서도, 참으로 그들의 부친을 거스려 불평하였나니, 그들이 불평한 것은 그들을 창조하신 그 하나님의 행하심을 그들이 알지 못하였기 때문이니라. | And thus Laman and Lemuel, being the eldest, did murmur against their father. And they did murmur because they knew not the dealings of that God who had created them. |
| 니전 2:13 | 또한 선지자들의 말씀에 따라, 저 큰 성 예루살렘이 멸망될 수 있음도 믿지 않았기 때문이라. 또 그들은 나의 부친의 목숨을 빼앗으려 한 예루살렘에 있던 유대인들과 같았느니라. | Neither did they believe that Jerusalem, that great city, could be destroyed according to the words of the prophets. And they were like unto the Jews who were at Jerusalem, who sought to take away the life of my father. |
| 니전 2:14 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 나의 부친께서 레뮤엘의 골짜기에서, 영으로 충만하시어 권능을 가지시고 그들에게 말씀하시니, 마침내 그들의 몸이 참으로 그 앞에서 떨었으며, 또 그가 그들을 부끄럽게 하시매, 그들이 감히 부친을 거스려 말하려 하지 아니하였느니라. 그리하여 그들은 그가 명하시는 대로 행하였느니라. | And it came to pass that my father did speak unto them in the valley of Lemuel, with power, being filled with the Spirit, until their frames did shake before him. And he did confound them, that they durst not utter against him; wherefore, they did as he commanded them. |
| 니전 2:15 | 그리고 나의 부친은 장막에 거하였느니라. | And my father dwelt in a tent. |
| 니전 2:16 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 나 니파이는 몹시 어렸으나 체격은 컸으며, 또한 하나님의 비밀을 알고자 심히 원하였던지라. 이러므로 내가 주께 부르짖었더니, 보라, 그가 나를 찾아오사 나의 마음을 부드럽게 하셨으므로 나는 나의 부친이 하신 말씀을 모두 믿었느니라. 그리하여 나는 나의 형들처럼 부친을 거역하지 아니하였느니라. | And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers. |
| 니전 2:17 | 또 나는 샘에게 말하여, 주께서 그의 성령으로 내게 나타내 주신 것들을 그에게 알게 하였느니라. 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그가 나의 말을 믿더라. | And I spake unto Sam, making known unto him the things which the Lord had manifested unto me by his Holy Spirit. And it came to pass that he believed in my words. |
| 니전 2:18 | 그러나, 보라, 레이맨과 레뮤엘은 나의 말에 귀를 기울이려 하지 아니하더라. 그리하여 그들의 마음의 완악함으로 인해 비통하여진 나는 그들을 위하여 주께 부르짖었느니라. | But, behold, Laman and Lemuel would not hearken unto my words; and being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts I cried unto the Lord for them. |
| 니전 2:19 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 주께서 내게 일러 이르시되, 니파이야, 네 신앙으로 말미암아 네가 복이 있나니 이는 네가 마음을 겸손히 하여 부지런히 나를 찾았음이니라. | And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me, saying: Blessed art thou, Nephi, because of thy faith, for thou hast sought me diligently, with lowliness of heart. |
| 니전 2:20 | 또 너희가 나의 계명을 지킬진대, 너희는 번성할 것이요, 약속의 땅으로 인도되리니, 참으로 내가 너희를 위하여 예비해 둔 땅이라, 참으로 다른 모든 땅 위에 뛰어난 땅이니라. | And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands. |
| 니전 2:21 | 또 네 형들이 너를 거역할진대, 그들은 주의 면전에서 끊어지게 되리라. | And inasmuch as thy brethren shall rebel against thee, they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord. |
| 니전 2:22 | 또 네가 나의 계명을 지킬진대, 너는 네 형들의 통치자와 교사가 되리라. | And inasmuch as thou shalt keep my commandments, thou shalt be made a ruler and a teacher over thy brethren. |
| 니전 2:23 | 이는 보라, 그들이 나를 거역하는 날, 나는 그들을 심한 저주로 저주할 것이요, 네 자손들이 역시 나를 거역하지 않는 한, 그들은 네 자손들을 다스릴 권력을 갖지 못할 것임이니라. | For behold, in that day that they shall rebel against me, I will curse them even with a sore curse, and they shall have no power over thy seed except they shall rebel against me also. |
| 니전 2:24 | 또 만일 네 자손들이 나를 거역한다 할진대, 그들은 네 자손들에게 채찍이 되어 그들을 깨우쳐 기억하게 하리라 하셨느니라. | And if it so be that they rebel against me, they shall be a scourge unto thy seed, to stir them up in the ways of remembrance. |
