니전 5:1 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 우리가 광야로 내려와 우리 부친께 이른 후, 보라, 그는 기쁨으로 충만하게 되셨고, 나의 모친 새라이아 역시 심히 기뻐하셨나니, 이는 모친이 우리로 인해 진실로 슬퍼하셨었음이라. And it came to pass that after we had come down into the wilderness unto our father, behold, he was filled with joy, and also my mother, Sariah, was exceedingly glad, for she truly had mourned because of us.
니전 5:2 이는 모친이 우리가 광야에서 죽었다고 생각하셨음이라. 또한 모친은 나의 부친에게 그가 환상의 사람이라 말하며 불평하셨었나니 이르되, 보소서 당신은 우리를 우리 기업의 땅에서 이끌어 내셨으며, 이제 내 아들들은 없어졌고 우리는 광야에서 멸망하리이다 하셨더라. For she had supposed that we had perished in the wilderness; and she also had complained against my father, telling him that he was a visionary man; saying: Behold thou hast led us forth from the land of our inheritance, and my sons are no more, and we perish in the wilderness.
니전 5:3 그리고 이 같은 말로 나의 모친은 나의 부친에게 불평하셨느니라. And after this manner of language had my mother complained against my father.
니전 5:4 이에 이렇게 되었나니 나의 부친이 모친에게 말씀하여 이르되, 나는 내가 환상의 사람인 줄을 아노라. 이는 만일 내가 시현에서 하나님의 일을 보지 않았더라면 하나님의 선하심을 알지 못하였을 것이요, 예루살렘에 머물러 나의 형제들과 함께 멸망하였을 것임이라. And it had come to pass that my father spake unto her, saying: I know that I am a visionary man; for if I had not seen the things of God in a vision I should not have known the goodness of God, but had tarried at Jerusalem, and had perished with my brethren.
니전 5:5 그러나 보라 내가 약속의 땅을 얻었으매, 이 일로 말미암아 나는 진정 기뻐하노라. 더욱이 나는 주께서 나의 아들들을 라반의 손에서 구원하사 광야에 있는 우리에게 다시 데려다 주실 것임을 아노라 하셨더라. But behold, I have obtained a land of promise, in the which things I do rejoice; yea, and I know that the Lord will deliver my sons out of the hands of Laban, and bring them down again unto us in the wilderness.
니전 5:6 이러한 말로 우리가 유대인의 기록을 얻으려 예루살렘 땅까지 광야를 여행하는 동안, 나의 부친 리하이는 우리에 관하여 나의 모친 새라이아를 위로하셨더라. And after this manner of language did my father, Lehi, comfort my mother, Sariah, concerning us, while we journeyed in the wilderness up to the land of Jerusalem, to obtain the record of the Jews.
니전 5:7 이에 우리가 나의 부친의 장막으로 돌아왔을 때, 보라 그들의 기쁨은 충만하였으며 나의 모친은 위로를 받으셨느니라. And when we had returned to the tent of my father, behold their joy was full, and my mother was comforted.
니전 5:8 그리하여 모친이 말씀하여 이르되, 이제 나는 주께서 나의 남편에게 광야로 도망하도록 명하셨음을 분명히 아노라. 또한 주께서 나의 아들들을 보호하사 라반의 손에서 건져내시고, 주께서 그들에게 명하신 일을 이룰 수 있는 능력을 주셨다는 것도 분명히 아노라 하셨나니, 이같이 모친은 진정으로 말씀하셨느니라. And she spake, saying: Now I know of a surety that the Lord hath commanded my husband to flee into the wilderness; yea, and I also know of a surety that the Lord hath protected my sons, and delivered them out of the hands of Laban, and given them power whereby they could accomplish the thing which the Lord hath commanded them. And after this manner of language did she speak.
니전 5:9 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들은 심히 기뻐하여 주께 희생과 번제를 드리고, 이스라엘의 하나님께 감사를 드렸느니라. And it came to pass that they did rejoice exceedingly, and did offer sacrifice and burnt offerings unto the Lord; and they gave thanks unto the God of Israel.
니전 5:10 또 그들이 이스라엘의 하나님께 감사를 드리고 난 후, 나의 부친 리하이는 놋쇠판에 새겨져 있는 기록을 취하여 처음부터 살펴보셨느니라. And after they had given thanks unto the God of Israel, my father, Lehi, took the records which were engraven upon the plates of brass, and he did search them from the beginning.
니전 5:11 그리고 거기에 세상의 창조와, 또한 우리의 첫 조상이었던 아담과 이브에 관한 기사를 전하고 있는 모세의 다섯 책이 들어 있음을 보셨느니라. And he beheld that they did contain the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents;
니전 5:12 또한 태초로부터 유다 왕 시드기야 치세 초에 이르기까지의 유대인의 기록과, And also a record of the Jews from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah;
니전 5:13 또한 태초로부터 유다 왕 시드기야 치세 초에 이르기까지의 거룩한 선지자들의 예언과, 또한 예레미야의 입으로 전해진 많은 예언이 들어 있음을 보셨느니라. And also the prophecies of the holy prophets, from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which have been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah.
니전 5:14 또 이렇게 되었나니 나의 부친 리하이는 또한 놋쇠판에서 그의 조상의 족보를 발견하셨느니라. 그리하여 그는 그가 요셉의 후손임을 아셨나니, 진실로 이 요셉은 야곱의 아들로서 애굽으로 팔려 가서 주의 손으로 보전되어 그의 부친 야곱과 그의 모든 권속을 보전하여 기근으로 멸망하지 않게 하였던 바로 그 요셉이라. And it came to pass that my father, Lehi, also found upon the plates of brass a genealogy of his fathers; wherefore he knew that he was a descendant of Joseph; yea, even that Joseph who was the son of Jacob, who was sold into Egypt, and who was preserved by the hand of the Lord, that he might preserve his father, Jacob, and all his household from perishing with famine.
니전 5:15 또한 그들은 그들을 보전하신 바로 그 하나님에 의해 인도되어 사로잡힘에서 벗어나 애굽 땅에서 나왔느니라. And they were also led out of captivity and out of the land of Egypt, by that same God who had preserved them.
니전 5:16 이같이 나의 부친 리하이는 그의 조상의 족보를 찾아 내셨으며, 또한 라반도 역시 요셉의 후손이었나니, 그런 연유로 그와 그의 조상들이 기록을 해 왔던 것이더라. And thus my father, Lehi, did discover the genealogy of his fathers. And Laban also was a descendant of Joseph, wherefore he and his fathers had kept the records.
니전 5:17 그리고 이제 나의 부친이 이 모든 것을 보셨을 때, 그는 영으로 충만하게 되어 그의 자손에 관하여 예언하기 시작하셨으니- And now when my father saw all these things, he was filled with the Spirit, and began to prophesy concerning his seed-
니전 5:18 이 놋쇠판은 그의 자손에게서 나온 모든 나라와 족속과 방언과 백성에게 나아갈 것이라 하셨느니라. That these plates of brass should go forth unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people who were of his seed.
니전 5:19 그리하여 그는 이 놋쇠판은 결코 없어지지 아니할 것이며, 세월에 의해 더 이상 흐려지지도 아니할 것이라 하시고, 또 그의 자손에 관하여 많은 것을 예언하셨느니라. Wherefore, he said that these plates of brass should never perish; neither should they be dimmed any more by time. And he prophesied many things concerning his seed.
니전 5:20 또 이렇게 되었나니 이제까지 나와 나의 부친은, 주께서 우리에게 명하신 명령을 지켰느니라. And it came to pass that thus far I and my father had kept the commandments wherewith the Lord had commanded us.
니전 5:21 또 주께서 우리에게 명하신 기록을 얻어 그것을 살펴보고는, 그 기록이 바람직한 것임을 알았나니, 참으로 우리에게 크나큰 가치가 있는 것이라. 우리로 하여금 우리의 자녀들에게 주의 계명을 보존해 줄 수 있게 하는 것이었느니라. And we had obtained the records which the Lord had commanded us, and searched them and found that they were desirable; yea, even of great worth unto us, insomuch that we could preserve the commandments of the Lord unto our children.
니전 5:22 그러므로 우리가 약속의 땅을 향하여 광야를 여행할 때에, 우리로 하여금 이를 갖고 가게 하신 것은 주 안에 있는 지혜였느니라. Wherefore, it was wisdom in the Lord that we should carry them with us, as we journeyed in the wilderness towards the land of promise.
