소개 유다가 가나안 여인 사이에 세 아들을 둠. 주께서 엘과 오난을 죽이심. 다말이 창녀로 변장하여 유다에게서 쌍둥이를 낳음. Judah has three sons by a Canaanite woman—Er and Onan slain by the Lord—Tamar, as a harlot, bears twins by Judah.
창 38:1 그 후에 유다가 자기 형제들로부터 떠나 내려가서 아둘람 사람 히라와 가까이 하니라 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
창 38:2 유다가 거기서 가나안 사람 수아라 하는 자의 딸을 보고 그를 데리고 동침하니 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.
창 38:3 그가 임신하여 아들을 낳으매 유다가 그의 이름을 엘이라 하니라 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.
창 38:4 그가 다시 임신하여 아들을 낳고 그의 이름을 오난이라 하고 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.
창 38:5 그가 또 다시 아들을 낳고 그의 이름을 셀라라 하니라 그가 셀라를 낳을 때에 유다는 거십에 있었더라 And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.
창 38:6 유다가 장자 엘을 위하여 아내를 데려오니 그의 이름은 다말이더라 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
창 38:7 유다의 장자 엘이 여호와가 보시기에 악하므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이신지라 And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
창 38:8 유다가 오난에게 이르되 네 형수에게로 들어가서 남편의 아우 된 본분을 행하여 네 형을 위하여 씨가 있게 하라 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
창 38:9 오난이 그 씨가 자기 것이 되지 않을 줄 알므로 형수에게 들어갔을 때에 그의 형에게 씨를 주지 아니하려고 땅에 설정하매 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
창 38:10 그 일이 여호와가 보시기에 악하므로 여호와께서 그도 죽이시니 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.
창 38:11 유다가 그의 며느리 다말에게 이르되 수절하고 네 아버지 집에 있어 내 아들 셀라가 장성하기를 기다리라 하니 셀라도 그 형들 같이 죽을까 염려함이라 다말이 가서 그의 아버지 집에 있으니라 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.
창 38:12 얼마 후에 유다의 아내 수아의 딸이 죽은지라 유다가 위로를 받은 후에 그의 친구 아둘람 사람 히라와 함께 딤나로 올라가서 자기의 양털 깎는 자에게 이르렀더니 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
창 38:13 어떤 사람이 다말에게 말하되 네 시아버지가 자기의 양털을 깎으려고 딤나에 올라왔다 한지라 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.
창 38:14 그가 그 과부의 의복을 벗고 너울로 얼굴을 가리고 몸을 휩싸고 딤나 길 곁 에나임 문에 앉으니 이는 셀라가 장성함을 보았어도 자기를 그의 아내로 주지 않음으로 말미암음이라 And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.
창 38:15 그가 얼굴을 가리었으므로 유다가 그를 보고 창녀로 여겨 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.
창 38:16 길 곁으로 그에게 나아가 이르되 청하건대 나로 네게 들어가게 하라 하니 그의 며느리인 줄을 알지 못하였음이라 그가 이르되 당신이 무엇을 주고 내게 들어오려느냐 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
창 38:17 유다가 이르되 내가 내 떼에서 염소 새끼를 주리라 그가 이르되 당신이 그것을 줄 때까지 담보물을 주겠느냐 And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?
창 38:18 유다가 이르되 무슨 담보물을 네게 주랴 그가 이르되 당신의 도장과 그 끈과 당신의 손에 있는 지팡이로 하라 유다가 그것들을 그에게 주고 그에게로 들어갔더니 그가 유다로 말미암아 임신하였더라 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
창 38:19 그가 일어나 떠나가서 그 너울을 벗고 과부의 의복을 도로 입으니라 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
창 38:20 유다가 그 친구 아둘람 사람의 손에 부탁하여 염소 새끼를 보내고 그 여인의 손에서 담보물을 찾으려 하였으나 그가 그 여인을 찾지 못한지라 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.
창 38:21 그가 그 곳 사람에게 물어 이르되 길 곁 에나임에 있던 창녀가 어디 있느냐 그들이 이르되 여기는 창녀가 없느니라 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.
창 38:22 그가 유다에게로 돌아와 이르되 내가 그를 찾지 못하였고 그 곳 사람도 이르기를 거기에는 창녀가 없다 하더이다 하더라 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.
창 38:23 유다가 이르되 그로 그것을 가지게 두라 우리가 부끄러움을 당할까 하노라 내가 이 염소 새끼를 보냈으나 그대가 그를 찾지 못하였느니라 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.
창 38:24 석 달쯤 후에 어떤 사람이 유다에게 일러 말하되 네 며느리 다말이 행음하였고 그 행음함으로 말미암아 임신하였느니라 유다가 이르되 그를 끌어내어 불사르라 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
창 38:25 여인이 끌려나갈 때에 사람을 보내어 시아버지에게 이르되 이 물건 임자로 말미암아 임신하였나이다 청하건대 보소서 이 도장과 그 끈과 지팡이가 누구의 것이니이까 한지라 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.
창 38:26 유다가 그것들을 알아보고 이르되 그는 나보다 옳도다 내가 그를 내 아들 셀라에게 주지 아니하였음이로다 하고 다시는 그를 가까이 하지 아니하였더라 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
창 38:27 해산할 때에 보니 쌍태라 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
창 38:28 해산할 때에 손이 나오는지라 산파가 이르되 이는 먼저 나온 자라 하고 홍색 실을 가져다가 그 손에 매었더니 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
창 38:29 그 손을 도로 들이며 그의 아우가 나오는지라 산파가 이르되 네가 어찌하여 터뜨리고 나오느냐 하였으므로 그 이름을 베레스라 불렀고 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.
창 38:30 그의 형 곧 손에 홍색 실 있는 자가 뒤에 나오니 그의 이름을 세라라 불렀더라 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
