And now it came to pass that in the three hundred and sixty and third year the Nephites did go up with their armies to battle against the Lamanites, out of the land Desolation. | 4:1.삼백 육십 삼년에 이르러, 니파이인들이 군사를 일으켜 레이맨인들을 대적하여 싸우러 데솔레이숀 땅을 나왔으나, |

And it came to pass that the armies of the Nephites were driven back again to the land of Desolation. And while they were yet weary, a fresh army of the Lamanites did come upon them; and they had a sore battle, insomuch that the Lamanites did take possession of the city Desolation, and did slay many of the Nephites, and did take many prisoners. | 4:2.니파이인의 군사는 쫓겨 데솔레이숀 땅으로 되돌아 왔고, 미처 피로의 숨을 거두기도 전에 힘이 넘치는 레이맨인 군대가 덤벼들어 무서운 전쟁이 벌어졌으며, 드디어 레이맨인들이 데솔레이숀 성을 빼앗아 많은 니파이인들을 죽이며 또한 포로로 사로잡아 갔으니, |

And the remainder did flee and join the inhabitants of the city Teancum. Now the city Teancum lay in the borders by the seashore; and it was also near the city Desolation. | 4:3.살아 남은 자들은 바닷가 변방, 데솔레이숀 땅에서도 가까운 티앤쿰 성으로 달아나 그곳 주민들에게로 들어가니라. |
| 몰몬 4:4 | 또 그들이 침을 당하기 시작한 것은 니파이인들의 군대가 레이맨인들에게로 올라간 연고니, 이는 그리하지 아니하였더라면 레이맨인들이 그들을 이길 힘을 갖지 못했을 것임이라. |

And it was because the armies of the Nephites went up unto the Lamanites that they began to be smitten; for were it not for that, the Lamanites could have had no power over them. | 4:4.니파이인들이 패퇴한 것은 먼저 저들이 레이맨인들을 대적하여 나아갔기 때문이라. 저들이 이같이 하지 않았던들 레이맨인들이 저들을 이겨낼 힘을 얻지 못하였으니라. |
| 몰몬 4:5 | 그러나 보라, 하나님의 심판은 간악한 자들에게 닥칠 것이요, 간악한 자들이 벌을 받는 것은 간악한 자들로 말미암나니, 이는 사람의 자녀들의 마음을 충동하여 피를 흘리게 하는 것도 간악한 자들임이라. |

But, behold, the judgments of God will overtake the wicked; and it is by the wicked that the wicked are punished; for it is the wicked that stir up the hearts of the children of men unto bloodshed. | 4:5.그러나 보라 하나님의 심판은 간악한 자들에게 내려지는 것이라. 간악한 자들은 간악한 자들에 의하여 벌을 받나니, 사람의 마음을 선동하여 유혈의 참극을 빚게 하는 자도 간악한 자들이기 때문이라. |
| 몰몬 4:6 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들은 티앤쿰 성을 치러 올 준비를 하였더라. |

And it came to pass that the Lamanites did make preparations to come against the city Teancum. | 4:6.레이맨인들은 다시 티앤쿰 성을 칠 준비를 갖추고 나서, |
| 몰몬 4:7 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 제삼백육십사년에 레이맨인들이 티앤쿰 성도 점령하려고 티앤쿰 성을 치러 왔었느니라. |

And it came to pass in the three hundred and sixty and fourth year the Lamanites did come against the city Teancum, that they might take possession of the city Teancum also. | 4:7.삼백 육십 사년에 레이맨인들은 티앤쿰 성을 공략하여 빼앗으려 하였으나, |
| 몰몬 4:8 | 그러나 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 격퇴당하여 니파이인들에게 쫓겨 물러가매, 니파이인들은 자기들이 레이맨인들을 몰아 내었음을 보고 다시 스스로의 힘을 자랑하더니, 그들 스스로의 힘으로 나아가 황무 성을 다시 점령하였더라. |

And it came to pass that they were repulsed and driven back by the Nephites. And when the Nephites saw that they had driven the Lamanites they did again boast of their own strength; and they went forth in their own might, and took possession again of the city Desolation. | 4:8.니파이인들에게 패하여 쫓겨났고 니파이인들은 저희가 레이맨인들을 몰아 내었음을 보고 또다시 저희의 힘을 자랑하더니, 나아가 저희의 힘으로 데솔레이숀 성을 점령하였더라. |
| 몰몬 4:9 | 이제 이 모든 일이 이루어졌고 양측에 곧 니파이인들이나 레이맨인들이나 다 죽임을 당한 자가 수천이었느니라. |

And now all these things had been done, and there had been thousands slain on both sides, both the Nephites and the Lamanites. | 4:9.이와 같은 일들이 행하여지는 동안 니파이인이나 레이맨인들 중에 수천 명이 죽임을 당하였고, |
| 몰몬 4:10 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 제삼백육십육년이 지나가고 레이맨인들이 또다시 싸우려고 니파이인들을 공격하였으나, 이때까지도 니파이인들은 그들이 행한 악을 회개하지 아니하고, 계속하여 그들의 간악함을 고집하였느니라. |

And it came to pass that the three hundred and sixty and sixth year had passed away, and the Lamanites came again upon the Nephites to battle; and yet the Nephites repented not of the evil they had done, but persisted in their wickedness continually. | 4:10.삼백 육십 육년이 지나 레이맨인들이 또다시 싸움을 일으켜 니파이인들에게 쳐들어 왔으나, 니파이인들은 그때까지도 저들이 행한 간악함을 회개하지 않고 계속하여 죄악을 범하였으니, |
| 몰몬 4:11 | 이에 니파이인들과 레이맨인들을 가리지 않고 백성 가운데 있었던 피와 대살육의 참혹한 광경을 능히 혀로 묘사하거나, 혹은 사람이 글로써 완전히 묘사할 수 없으며, 각 사람의 마음이 완악하여진지라 그들이 끊임없이 유혈을 기뻐하였더라. |

And it is impossible for the tongue to describe, or for man to write a perfect description of the horrible scene of the blood and carnage which was among the people, both of the Nephites and of the Lamanites; and every heart was hardened, so that they delighted in the shedding of blood continually. | 4:11.니파이인과 레이맨인들간에 있었던 유혈과 살륙의 참상은 말로는 표현할 길이 없고, 이것을 사람으로서는 도저히 다 기록하지 못할 일이었으며, 사람들은 모두 마음이 강퍅해져서 계속하여 유혈을 즐기더라. |
| 몰몬 4:12 | 또 주의 말씀에 의하건대 이 백성 가운데 있은 것 같은 그처럼 큰 간악함은, 리하이의 모든 자손 중에서나, 심지어 이스라엘의 온 집 가운데서도 결코 있지 아니하였느니라. |

And there never had been so great wickedness among all the children of Lehi, nor even among all the house of Israel, according to the words of the Lord, as was among this people. | 4:12.주님의 말씀에 의하건대 리하이의 자손이나 이스라엘의 백성들 중에 이 백성들 보다 더 완악한 백성들이 없었느니라. |
| 몰몬 4:13 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 황무 성을 점령하였으니, 이는 저들의 수효가 니파이인들의 수효보다 더 많았음이었더라. |

And it came to pass that the Lamanites did take possession of the city Desolation, and this because their number did exceed the number of the Nephites. | 4:13.레이맨인들이 데솔레이숀 성을 빼앗은 것은 그 수효가 니파이인들 보다 훨씬 많았음이라. |
| 몰몬 4:14 | 또한 저들이 티앤쿰 성을 치러 진군해 나아가서 그 주민들을 그 곳에서 몰아 내고, 여자와 아이들을 많이 포로로 잡고는 그들을 저들의 우상 신들에게 제물로 바쳤더라. |

And they did also march forward against the city Teancum, and did drive the inhabitants forth out of her, and did take many prisoners both women and children, and did offer them up as sacrifices unto their idol gods. | 4:14.레이맨인들은 다시 티앤쿰 성으로 진군해 가서 그 주민들을 몰아내고 많은 부녀자들을 사로잡아 저희가 받드는 우상의 신들에게 제물로 바친지라. |
| 몰몬 4:15 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 제삼백육십칠년에 니파이인들은 레이맨인들이 그들의 여자들과 아이들을 제물로 바쳤음으로 인하여 노하여, 심히 큰 분노로 레이맨인들을 치러 가서, 다시 레이맨인들을 파하고, 저들을 자기들의 땅에서 쫓아내었더라. |

And it came to pass that in the three hundred and sixty and seventh year, the Nephites being angry because the Lamanites had sacrificed their women and their children, that they did go against the Lamanites with exceedingly great anger, insomuch that they did beat again the Lamanites, and drive them out of their lands. | 4:15.삼백 육십 칠년에 니파이인들은 레이맨인들이 저들의 부녀자들을 제물로 바친 일에 크게 노하여 무서운 노여움의 기세를 몰아 레이맨인들을 치매, 다시 저들을 무찔러 저들의 땅에서 쫓아 내었더라. |
| 몰몬 4:16 | 이에 제삼백칠십오년에 이르기까지 레이맨인들이 다시 니파이인들을 치러 오지 아니하였더라. |

And the Lamanites did not come again against the Nephites until the three hundred and seventy and fifth year. | 4:16.이후로 삼백 칠십 오년에 이르도록 레이맨인들이 다시는 니파이인들을 대적하여 나오지 아니하였으나, |
| 몰몬 4:17 | 또 이 해에 저들이 저들의 전 병력을 거느리고 니파이인들을 치러 내려왔으니, 저들의 수효가 많음으로 인하여 저들을 세지 아니하였느니라. |

And in this year they did come down against the Nephites with all their powers; and they were not numbered because of the greatness of their number. | 4:17.이 해에 또다시 저들은 전 병력을 다하여, 이루 헤아릴 수 없는 대군을 거느리고 니파이인들에게 쳐들어 왔으니, |
| 몰몬 4:18 | 그리고 이때로부터 니파이인들은 전혀 레이맨인들을 이기지 못하였고, 해 앞의 이슬같이 저들에게 쓸어버림을 당하기 시작하였느니라. |

And from this time forth did the Nephites gain no power over the Lamanites, but began to be swept off by them even as a dew before the sun. | 4:18.이때로부터 니파이인들은 전혀 레이맨인들을 감당해 내지 못하여 햇빛에 사라지는 이슬 방울같이 패퇴하였고, |
| 몰몬 4:19 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 황무 성을 치러 내려오매 황무 땅에 심히 맹렬한 싸움이 벌어졌더니, 저들이 니파이인들을 격파하였느니라. |

And it came to pass that the Lamanites did come down against the city Desolation; and there was an exceedingly sore battle fought in the land Desolation, in the which they did beat the Nephites. | 4:19.레이맨인들이 데솔레이숀 성에 몰려와 참으로 치열한 전쟁을 벌려 싸우더니, 니파이인들을 무찌르매, |
| 몰몬 4:20 | 이에 그들이 저들 앞에서 다시 도망하여 보아스 성으로 가서, 거기서 그들이 심히 담대하게 레이맨인들을 대적하였던지라, 레이맨인들이 두 번째로 다시 오기까지는 그들을 이기지 못하였느니라. |

And they fled again from before them, and they came to the city Boaz; and there they did stand against the Lamanites with exceeding boldness, insomuch that the Lamanites did not beat them until they had come again the second time. | 4:20.니파이인들이 저들에게서 도망하여 보아스 성으로 가, 그곳에서 레이맨인들을 대적하여 담대하게 싸웠던지라, 레이맨인들은 저들을 단번에 쳐부수지 못하고 두번째로 공략하여 왔으니, |
| 몰몬 4:21 | 그러나 저들이 두 번째로 왔을 때 니파이인들은 쫓기며 심히 큰 살육으로 살육 당하였으며, 그들의 여자들과 아이들이 또다시 우상들에게 제물로 바쳐졌느니라. |

And when they had come the second time, the Nephites were driven and slaughtered with an exceedingly great slaughter; their women and their children were again sacrificed unto idols. | 4:21.레이맨인들이 두 번째로 몰려왔을 때 니파이인들은 쫓겨나게 되었고 크게 살륙을 당하였으며, 부녀자들이 잡혀 또다시 우상의 제물로 바쳐졌고, |
| 몰몬 4:22 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 니파이인들은 또다시 고을과 마을의 모든 주민을 데리고 저들 앞에서 도망하였느니라. |

And it came to pass that the Nephites did again flee from before them, taking all the inhabitants with them, both in towns and villages. | 4:22.니파이인들은 또다시 성읍과 마을에서 주민들을 모두 이끌고 저들 앞에서 도망하였느니라. |
| 몰몬 4:23 | 이에 이제 나 몰몬은 레이맨인들이 바야흐로 그 땅을 전복하려 함을 보고, 시므 산으로 가서 앰마론이 주께 감추어 둔 기록을 모두 취하였느니라. |

And now I, Mormon, seeing that the Lamanites were about to overthrow the land, therefore I did go to the hill Shim, and did take up all the records which Ammaron had hid up unto the Lord. | 4:23.이에 나 몰몬은 레이맨인들이 온 나라를 거의 정복하게 되었음을 보고 시므 산으로 가서 앰마론이 감추어 주 앞에 맡겨둔 기록을 모두 꺼내니라. |
