 And now I, Moroni, proceed to give the record of Jared and his brother.  6:1.나 모로나이는 야렛과 그 동생의 기사를 계속하리로다.
이더 6:2 이는 이렇게 되었음이니 야렛의 형제가 산으로 가지고 올라온 돌들을 주께서 예비하여 주신 후에 야렛의 형제가 산에서 내려와, 그 돌들을 예비된 배 안에 두되 양 끝에 하나씩 두었더니, 보라, 그것들이 배를 밝히더라.

 

 For it came to pass after the Lord had prepared the stones which the brother of Jared had carried up into the mount, the brother of Jared came down out of the mount, and he did put forth the stones into the vessels which were prepared, one in each end thereof; and behold, they did give light unto the vessels.  6:2.야렛의 동생이 산으로 가져 갔던 돌을 주님께서 예비하여 주신 후에, 저가 이 마련된 돌을 만들어 놓은 배로 가져가 각각 배 끝에 하나씩을 달았더니, 보라 그 돌들이 배 안에 빛을 발하니라.
이더 6:3 이에 이같이 주께서 돌들로 암흑 중에 빛을 발하게 하사 남자와 여자와 아이들에게 빛을 주어, 그들로 암흑 중에 큰 물을 건너지 않게 하셨느니라.

 

 And thus the Lord caused stones to shine in darkness, to give light unto men, women, and children, that they might not cross the great waters in darkness.  6:3.이같이 주님께서는 그 돌이 암흑 가운데서 빛을 발하게 하시며 남자나 여자나 어린 아이들에게 모두 빛을 주사 저들이 암흑에 싸여 대해를 건너지 않게 하시니라.
이더 6:4 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 물 위에서 먹고 지낼 만한 온갖 양식과 또한 그들의 양 떼와 소 떼와 그들이 데리고 갈 모든 짐승이나 동물이나 새를 막론하고 그 양식을 준비한 후에 - 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 이 모든 일을 행한 후에 그들의 배 곧 거룻배에 올라, 스스로를 주 그들의 하나님께 맡기고, 바다로 출항하여 나아갔더라.

 

 And it came to pass that when they had prepared all manner of food, that thereby they might subsist upon the water, and also food for their flocks and herds, and whatsoever beast or animal or fowl that they should carry with them-and it came to pass that when they had done all these things they got aboard of their vessels or barges, and set forth into the sea, commending themselves unto the Lord their God.  6:4.그리하여 저들은 물을 건너가는 동안에 물 위에서 먹을 만한 온갖 양식을 준비하고, 저들의 가축과 온갖 짐승과 새의 먹이를 가져 가도록 준비하여 이같이 모두 행하고 난 후에 모두를 주 저희 하나님께 맡기고 저들의 배에 올라 바다로 나아가니,
이더 6:5 이에 이렇게 되었나니 주 하나님께서 수면 위에 약속의 땅을 향하여 부는 맹렬한 바람을 일으키시매, 그로 인해 그들이 바람 앞에서 바다 물결 위에 요동하였더라.

 

And it came to pass that the Lord God caused that there should be a furious wind blow upon the face of the waters, towards the promised land; and thus they were tossed upon the waves of the sea before the wind.

  6:5.주 하나님께서 약속의 땅을 향하여 부는 맹렬한 바람을 수면에 일으켜 불어 보내시는지라, 저들은 바람을 타고 물결을 헤쳐 나아갔더라.
이더 6:6 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들은 그들 위에 부서지는 산 같은 파도와, 또한 맹렬한 바람이 일으키는 크고 무서운 폭풍으로 인하여 여러 번 바다 깊이 묻혀졌더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they were many times buried in the depths of the sea, because of the mountain waves which broke upon them, and also the great and terrible tempests which were caused by the fierceness of the wind.  6:6.태산 같은 파도가 밀려 오며 또한 맹렬한 바람이 일으킨 크고 무서운 폭풍우가 몰아쳐 저들은 여러 번 깊은 바다에 삼켜졌으나,
이더 6:7 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 깊은 바다에 묻혔을 때에도 그들을 해할 수 있는 물이 없었으니, 그들의 배는 물샐틈없기가 마치 접시 같았음이요, 또한 그 배들은 물샐틈없기가 마치 노아의 방주 같았나니, 그러므로 그들이 많은 물에 둘러싸였을 때 주께 부르짖으매, 주께서 그들을 다시 물 위로 이끌어 내셨더라.

 

And it came to pass that when they were buried in the deep there was no water that could hurt them, their vessels being tight like unto a dish, and also they were tight like unto the ark of Noah; therefore when they were encompassed about by many waters they did cry unto the Lord, and he did bring them forth again upon the top of the waters.

And it came to pass that the wind did never cease to blow towards the promised land while they were upon the waters; and thus they were driven forth before the wind.

  6:8.저들이 물 위에 오르면 바람은 다시 약속의 땅을 향하여 끊임없이 불기를 그치지 아니 하였으매, 이같이 저들은 바람을 타고 앞으로 나아가니라.
이더 6:9 이에 그들이 주께 찬송을 부르되, 참으로 야렛의 형제는 주께 찬송을 부르며, 온종일 주께 감사하며 주를 찬양하였고, 밤이 되어도 그들은 주 찬양하기를 그치지 아니하였더라.

 

 And they did sing praises unto the Lord; yea, the brother of Jared did sing praises unto the Lord, and he did thank and praise the Lord all the day long; and when the night came, they did not cease to praise the Lord.  6:9.또한 저들은 주를 찬양하여 노래하였으며 참으로 야렛의 동생은 주를 찬양하여 노래하며 온종일 주께 감사하며 주를 찬양하였고, 밤이 되어도 저들은 주 찬양하기를 그치지 아니하였더라.
이더 6:10 또 이같이 그들이 밀려 나아가매, 바다의 아무 괴물도 그들을 깨뜨릴 수 없었고, 그들을 상하게 할 고래도 없었으며, 물 위에서나 물 속에서나 그들에게는 끊임없이 빛이 있었더라.

 

 And thus they were driven forth; and no monster of the sea could break them, neither whale that could mar them; and they did have light continually, whether it was above the water or under the water.  6:10.이같이 저들이 앞으로 나아가매 아무 괴물도 저들을 깨뜨리지 못하였고 저들을 해칠 고래도 없으며, 물위에 떠있거나 물 속에 잠기거나 늘 빛이 비쳐졌더라.
이더 6:11 이에 이같이 그들이 물 위에서 삼백사십사 일을 밀려 나아가더라.

 

 And thus they were driven forth, three hundred and forty and four days upon the water.  6:11.이같이 저들이 삼백 사십 사일 동안을 물위로 헤쳐 나아가,
이더 6:12 그리고 약속된 땅의 해안에 상륙하였나니, 그들이 약속된 땅의 해안에 그들 발을 디뎠을 때, 그들은 땅 위에 엎드려 주 앞에 스스로 겸손하게 되어 주께서 그들에게 베푸신 많은 친절하신 자비로 인하여 주 앞에 기쁨의 눈물을 흘렸더라.

 

 And they did land upon the shore of the promised land. And when they had set their feet upon the shores of the promised land they bowed themselves down upon the face of the land, and did humble themselves before the Lord, and did shed tears of joy before the Lord, because of the multitude of his tender mercies over them.  6:12.약속의 땅 해안에 오르게 되니라. 저들은 약속의 땅 해안에 발을 딛으면서 바로 땅위에 엎드려 주 앞에 겸손한 마음으로 스스로를 낮추고 주가 저들에게 베풀어 주신 은혜로우신 풍성한 자비에 감사하며, 주 앞에 기쁨의 눈물을 금치 못하였으며,
이더 6:13 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 그 땅 위에 나아가 땅을 갈기 시작하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they went forth upon the face of the land, and began to till the earth.  6:13.저들은 뭍 위로 올라 땅을 갈기 시작하니라.
이더 6:14 또 야렛에게는 네 아들이 있어 그들을 예이콤과 길가와 메이하와 오라이하라 하였더라.

 

 And Jared had four sons; and they were called Jacom, and Gilgah, and Mahah, and Orihah.  6:14.야렛에게는 네 아들이 있어 각각 예이콤, 길가, 메이하, 오라이하라 하였고,
이더 6:15 또 야렛의 형제도 아들과 딸들을 낳았더라.

 

 And the brother of Jared also begat sons and daughters.  6:15.야렛의 동생도 아들과 딸들을 낳았으며,
이더 6:16 그리고 야렛과 그 형제의 친구는 수효가 대략 스물두 명이라. 그들도 약속된 땅으로 오기 전에 아들과 딸들을 낳았던지라, 그러므로 그들이 많아졌더라.

 

 And the friends of Jared and his brother were in number about twenty and two souls; and they also begat sons and daughters before they came to the promised land; and therefore they began to be many.  6:16.야렛과 그 동생의 친구가 모두 스물 둘이요, 저들도 모두 약속의 땅에 이르기 전에 아들과 딸들을 낳았던지라 그 수효가 곧 많아졌으며,
이더 6:17 또 그들은 주 앞에서 겸손히 행하도록 가르침을 받았고, 또한 높은 곳으로부터도 가르침을 받았더라.

 

 And they were taught to walk humbly before the Lord; and they were also taught from on high.  6:17.저들은 주 앞에 겸손하게 행하도록 가르침을 받았고, 또한 하늘로부터 가르치심을 받았으며,
이더 6:18 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 지면에 퍼지며, 번성하며 땅을 갈기 시작하여, 그 땅에서 점차 강해졌더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they began to spread upon the face of the land, and to multiply and to till the earth; and they did wax strong in the land.  6:18.온 땅에 흩어져 번성하며, 땅을 갈기 시작하여 그 땅에서 강대해졌더라.
이더 6:19 또 야렛의 형제가 늙어 자기가 반드시 곧 무덤으로 내려갈 것임을 알았던지라, 그가 야렛에게 이르기를, 우리의 백성을 함께 모아 그들을 계수하고 우리가 우리의 무덤으로 내려가기 전에 그들이 우리에게 무엇을 원하는지 그들에게 알아보도록 하자 하였더라.

 

 And the brother of Jared began to be old, and saw that he must soon go down to the grave; wherefore he said unto Jared: Let us gather together our people that we may number them, that we may know of them what they will desire of us before we go down to our graves.  6:19.야렛의 동생이 늙어 곧 무덤에 갈 때가 되었음을 알고 저가 야렛에게 이르기를, 우리 백성들을 함께 모아 그 수를 헤아려 보고 또한 우리가 각기 무덤에 들어가기 전, 저들이 우리에게 무엇을 원하는지 알아 보도록 하라 하여,
이더 6:20 이에 따라서 백성들이 함께 모이니, 이제 야렛의 형제의 아들과 딸의 수효는 스물두 명이요, 야렛의 아들과 딸의 수효는 열둘인데, 그에게 아들은 넷이었더라.

 

 And accordingly the people were gathered together. Now the number of the sons and the daughters of the brother of Jared were twenty and two souls; and the number of sons and daughters of Jared were twelve, he having four sons.  6:20.백성들을 모두 한 자리에 모으매 야렛의 동생의 아들과 딸이 스물 둘이요, 야렛의 아들과 딸은 열둘이요, 그 중 아들이 넷이었더라.
이더 6:21 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 그들의 백성을 계수하고, 저들을 계수하고 난 후에, 그들이 그들의 무덤으로 내려가기 전에 그들이 행하기를 저들이 원하는 것을 저들에게 물어 보았더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they did number their people; and after that they had numbered them, they did desire of them the things which they would that they should do before they went down to their graves.  6:21.또한 저들은 백성들의 수를 헤아리기를 마친 후, 저들이 무덤으로 들어가기 전에 백성들이 원하는 바를 들어 행하겠다 하매,
이더 6:22 이에 이렇게 되었나니 백성들은 그들에게 그들의 아들 중 하나에게 기름을 부어 저들 위에 왕을 삼아 줄 것을 원하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that the people desired of them that they should anoint one of their sons to be a king over them.  6:22.백성들은 야렛과 야렛의 동생의 아들중에 하나를 택하여 저들의 왕으로 삼아 기름 부어 주기를 갈망하니,
이더 6:23 그러나 이제 보라, 이는 그들을 슬프게 하는 일이었더라. 이에 야렛의 형제가 저들에게 이르되 정녕 이 일은 사로잡힘으로 인도하는도다 하였더라.

 

 And now behold, this was grievous unto them. And the brother of Jared said unto them: Surely this thing leadeth into captivity.  6:23.보라 이는 저들을 슬프게 하는 일이었더라. 이제 야렛의 동생이 저들에게 이르기를, 이 일이 필경 속박을 가져 오리라 하였으나,
이더 6:24 그러나 야렛이 그의 형제에게 이르되, 저들을 용납하여 저들로 왕을 갖게 하라 한지라. 그러므로 그가 저들에게 이르되, 우리의 아들들 중에서 너희가 원하는 왕을 택하라 하니라.

 

 But Jared said unto his brother: Suffer them that they may have a king. And therefore he said unto them: Choose ye out from among our sons a king, even whom ye will.  6:24.야렛이 그의 동생에게 이르기를 저들로 왕을 받들어 섬기게 하자, 하고 백성들에게 이르기를, 우리들의 아들 중에서 너희가 좋은 대로 왕으로 받들어 섬길 자를 택하라 하니,
이더 6:25 이에 이렇게 되었나니 저들이 야렛의 형제의 장자를 택하매, 그의 이름은 페이개그더라. 그러나 이렇게 되었나니 그가 거절하고 그들의 왕이 되고자 아니하는지라, 백성들은 그의 부친이 그를 강제하기를 원하였으나, 그의 부친이 그리하고자 아니하고, 오히려 아무도 강제하여 그들의 왕을 삼지 말 것을 그들에게 명하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they chose even the firstborn of the brother of Jared; and his name was Pagag. And it came to pass that he refused and would not be their king. And the people would that his father should constrain him, but his father would not; and he commanded them that they should constrain no man to be their king.  6:25.저들이 야렛의 동생의 첫 아들 페이개그를 택하였으나, 저가 왕이 되기를 거절하는지라, 백성들이 그의 부친에게 청하여 그 아들이 수락하도록 명하여 달라 하니라. 이에 그 부친이 백성들이 청하는 바를 듣지 아니하고 오히려 저들에게 명하여, 아무도 강제로 왕을 삼을 수 없는 것이라고 이르니라.
이더 6:26 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 페이개그의 형제를 모두 택하였으나, 그들도 원하지 아니하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they chose all the brothers of Pagag, and they would not.  6:26.이에 저들이 페이개그의 형제를 모두 택하여 보았으나 형제가 모두 이를 거절하였고,
이더 6:27 또 이렇게 되었나니 야렛의 아들들도 한 명을 제외하고는 모두 그리하고자 아니한지라. 이에 오라이하가 기름 부음을 받고 백성들 위에 왕이 되었더라.

 

 And it came to pass that neither would the sons of Jared, even all save it were one; and Orihah was anointed to be king over the people.  6:27.야렛의 아들들도 모두 이를 거절하되 오라이하 하나만이 이를 응락하는지라, 저들의 왕으로 임명되어 기름이 부어지니라.
이더 6:28 이에 그가 다스리기 시작하고, 백성들은 번영하기 시작하여, 그들이 심히 부하게 되었더라.

 

 And he began to reign, and the people began to prosper; and they became exceedingly rich.  6:28.이에 저가 다스리기 시작하여 백성들은 번영하였고 심히 부하게 되었으며,
이더 6:29 또 이렇게 되었나니 야렛이 죽고 그의 형제도 죽으니라.

 

 And it came to pass that Jared died, and his brother also.  6:29.야렛이 죽고 또한 그 동생도 죽었으나,
이더 6:30 또 이렇게 되었나니 오라이하가 주 앞에 겸손히 행하며, 주께서 그의 부친을 위하여 얼마나 큰 일들을 행하신 것을 기억하였고, 또한 자기의 백성에게 주께서 그들의 조상들을 위하여 얼마나 큰 일들을 행하셨는지를 가르쳤더라.

 

 And it came to pass that Orihah did walk humbly before the Lord, and did remember how great things the Lord had done for his father, and also taught his people how great things the Lord had done for their fathers.  6:30.오라이하가 주 앞에 겸손하게 행하며 주님께서 그의 부친에게 행하신 위대한 일들을 기억하며 잊지 아니하였고, 또한 주님께서 백성들의 조상에게 베푸신 위대한 일들을 백성들에게 낱낱이 가르쳤느니라.
