 And it came to pass when Coriantumr had recovered of his wounds, he began to remember the words which Ether had spoken unto him.  15:1.코리앤툼오어는 그의 상처가 회복되고 난 후에 이더가 저에게 전한 말을 기억하기 시작하였고,

 He saw that there had been slain by the sword already nearly two millions of his people, and he began to sorrow in his heart; yea, there had been slain two millions of mighty men, and also their wives and their children.  15:2.그의 백성들이 이미 이백만명이나 죽었음을 보고 마음으로 애통해하기 시작하였으니, 참으로 이백만명이나 되는 용사들이 죽었으며 저들의 처자가 또한 죽임을 당하였느니라.

 He began to repent of the evil which he had done; he began to remember the words which had been spoken by the mouth of all the prophets, and he saw them that they were fulfilled thus far, every whit; and his soul mourned and refused to be comforted.  15:3.그리하여 코리앤툼오어는 저가 행한 일을 뉘우치기 시작하여 여러 예연자들이 입을 모아 전한 말들을 기억하기 시작하였고, 예언의 말씀이 한 획도 남기지 아니하고 성취됨을 보았으며 그의 영혼은 비통하였으되 위로받지 못하였더라.
이더 15:4 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그가 시즈에게 서한을 써서 백성들을 살려줄 것을 그에게 요청하고, 그리하면 백성들의 목숨을 위하여 나라를 넘겨주겠다 하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that he wrote an epistle unto Shiz, desiring him that he would spare the people, and he would give up the kingdom for the sake of the lives of the people.  15:4.이에 그는 시즈에게 서한을 보내어 백성들의 목숨을 살려 주기를 간청하고, 백성들의 목숨을 위하여 나라를 내어 주리라 하였으나,

 And it came to pass that when Shiz had received his epistle he wrote an epistle unto Coriantumr, that if he would give himself up, that he might slay him with his own sword, that he would spare the lives of the people.  15:5.시즈가 이 서한을 받고 나서 코리앤툼오어에게 서한을 내어, 만일 코리앤툼오어가 스스로를 희생하여 시즈로 하여금 칼로 저의 목을 자르도록 하면 백성들의 목숨을 살려 주리라 하였더라.

 And it came to pass that the people repented not of their iniquity; and the people of Coriantumr were stirred up to anger against the people of Shiz; and the people of Shiz were stirred up to anger against the people of Coriantumr; wherefore, the people of Shiz did give battle unto the people of Coriantumr.  15:6.이같이 백성들은 저들의 죄악을 뉘우치지 아니하였고, 코리앤툼오어의 백성들은 시즈의 백성들에게 분을 품게 되었으며, 시즈의 백성들은 코리앤툼오어의 백성들에게 분을 품게 된지라, 시즈의 백성들이 코리앤툼오어의 백성들을 대적하여 싸움을 걸어 왔더라.

 And it came to pass that Ether did behold all the doings of the people; and he beheld that the people who were for Coriantumr were gathered together to the army of Coriantumr; and the people who were for Shiz were gathered together to the army of Shiz.  15:13.이더는 백성들이 행하는 것을 모두 보았으며, 코리앤툼오어의 편을 드는 백성들은 코리앤툼오어에게로, 시즈의 편을 드는 백성들은 시즈에게로 각각 모여 드는 것을 보았느니라.

 Wherefore, they were for the space of four years gathering together the people, that they might get all who were upon the face of the land, and that they might receive all the strength which it was possible that they could receive.  15:14.그리하여 저들이 사년을 두고 온 땅에 있는 백성들을 모두 모아 힘이 자라는 데까지 병력을 강화하였으며,
이더 15:15 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 그들의 아내와 그들의 자녀와 더불어 각자 자기의 원하는 군대로 다 함께 모인 후에 - 남녀와 아이를 가리지 않고 전쟁 무기로 무장하고, 방패와 가슴판과 투구를 갖추고, 전쟁의 복장을 한 채 - 그들이 싸우고자 서로를 대하여 진군해 나아가 그 날 종일토록 싸웠으나 이기지 못하니라.

 

 And it came to pass that when they were all gathered together, every one to the army which he would, with their wives and their children-both men, women and children being armed with weapons of war, having shields, and breastplates, and head-plates, and being clothed after the manner of war-they did march forth one against another to battle; and they fought all that day, and conquered not.  15:15.이같이 모든 백성들을 모아 군대를 이룬 다음 저마다 각기 그 아내와 자녀들, 곧 남자나 여자나 어린 아이들까지도 갑옷, 가슴판, 투구 등 온갖 전쟁 무기로 무장을 갖추게 한 후에 서로 적을 대적하여 싸우러 나가 온종일 싸웠으나 승부를 가리지 못하였으며,
이더 15:16 이에 이렇게 되었나니 밤이 되매 그들이 지쳐 각자의 진영으로 물러갔고, 그들이 그 진영으로 물러간 후에는 그들 백성의 죽임 당한 자를 잃음으로 인하여 울부짖으며 애곡하기 시작하였으니, 그들의 부르짖음과 그들의 울부짖음과 애곡함이 심히 컸던지라, 그 소리가 심히 공기를 찢었더라.

 

 And it came to pass that when it was night they were weary, and retired to their camps; and after they had retired to their camps they took up a howling and a lamentation for the loss of the slain of their people; and so great were their cries, their howlings and lamentations, that they did rend the air exceedingly.  15:16.밤이 되어 피로하매 저들이 각기 진영으로 돌아 갔고 진영에 돌아가서는 잃은 백성들을 생각하며 울부짖으며 애통했으니, 저들이 울부짖으며 비통해 하고 애통하는 소리가 심히 커 하늘을 찢는 듯 하였느니라.
이더 15:17 또 이렇게 되었나니 다음 날 그들이 다시 싸우러 가매, 그 날이 크고 두려웠으나 그럼에도 그들이 이기지 못하고 다시 밤이 오매 그들 백성의 죽임 당한 자들을 잃음으로 인한 그들의 부르짖음과 그들의 울부짖음과 그들의 애곡이 공기를 찢었더라.

 

 And it came to pass that on the morrow they did go again to battle, and great and terrible was that day; nevertheless, they conquered not, and when the night came again they did rend the air with their cries, and their howlings, and their mournings, for the loss of the slain of their people.  15:17.다음날 저들이 또다시 싸움터에 임하였으니, 이는 크고 두려운 날이었더라. 그러나 이 날도 승부를 가리지 못하고 밤이 되매, 저들은 또다시 죽임을 당한 저들의 백성들로 하여 하늘을 찢어 낼듯이 울부짖으며 애통해 하며 비통해 하였느니라.
이더 15:18 이에 이렇게 되었나니 코리앤투머가 다시 시즈에게 서한을 써서, 저에게 다시 싸우러 오지 말고, 나라를 취하고 백성들의 목숨을 살려 줄 것을 요청하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that Coriantumr wrote again an epistle unto Shiz, desiring that he would not come again to battle, but that he would take the kingdom, and spare the lives of the people.  15:18.이에 다시 코리앤툼오어가 시즈에게 서한을 내어 다시 싸움을 일으키지 말고 왕국을 취하여 백성들을 살려 주기를 요청하였더라.
이더 15:19 그러나 보라, 주의 영은 그들과 함께 애쓰시기를 이미 그치셨고, 사탄이 백성의 마음을 온전히 다스리는 권능을 가졌으니, 이는 그들이 그들 마음의 완악함과 그들 생각의 눈 먼 데로 내어준 바 되어 멸망당하게 되었음이라. 그리하여 그들이 다시 싸우러 갔더라.

 

 But behold, the Spirit of the Lord had ceased striving with them, and Satan had full power over the hearts of the people; for they were given up unto the hardness of their hearts, and the blindness of their minds that they might be destroyed; wherefore they went again to battle.  15:19.그러나 보라 주의 영이 저들과 함께 하시기를 그치시며 사탄이 백성들의 마음을 온전히 사로잡았으니, 이는 저들의 마음이 버려져 강퍅하게 되었고 저들의 심령이 어두워져 멸망케 되었음이라. 그러므로 저들은 다시 싸움터로 나아갔더라.
이더 15:20 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 그 날 온종일 싸웠고, 밤이 오매 그들은 그들의 칼을 베고 잤더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they fought all that day, and when the night came they slept upon their swords.  15:20.저들이 그날 온종일 싸우고 나서 밤에는 칼을 베고 잤으며,
이더 15:21 또 다음 날에도 그들은 참으로 밤이 오기까지 싸웠더라.

 

 And on the morrow they fought even until the night came.  15:21.다음날도 밤이 되도록 싸워,
이더 15:22 그리고 밤이 오매 그들은 마치 포도주에 취한 사람같이 노여움에 취하여, 다시 그들의 칼을 베고 잤더라.

 

 And when the night came they were drunken with anger, even as a man who is drunken with wine; and they slept again upon their swords.  15:22.밤이 되매 노여움에 취한 저들은 마치 술에 취한 자같이 또다시 칼을 베고 잤으며,
이더 15:23 또 다음 날에 그들이 다시 싸웠고, 밤이 오매 그들이 모두 칼에 엎드러졌고, 다만 코리앤투머의 백성 오십이 명과 시즈의 백성 육십구 명만이 있었더라.

 

 And on the morrow they fought again; and when the night came they had all fallen by the sword save it were fifty and two of the people of Coriantumr, and sixty and nine of the people of Shiz.  15:23.다음날도 저들은 다시 싸웠으며, 밤이 이르매 코리앤툼오어의 편에 쉰 두명, 시즈의 편에는 예순 아홉명이 남고는 모두 칼에 쓰러졌더라.
이더 15:24 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 그 밤에 그들의 칼을 베고 자고, 다음날 그들이 다시 싸우되, 그 날 종일 그들의 칼과 그들의 방패를 가지고 그들의 힘을 다하여 싸웠더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they slept upon their swords that night, and on the morrow they fought again, and they contended in their might with their swords and with their shields, all that day.  15:24.그날 밤 저들은 칼을 베고 잤으며, 다음날도 저들은 칼과 방패를 들고 하루 종일 싸워,
이더 15:25 또 밤이 오매 시즈의 백성 삼십이 명과 코리앤투머의 백성 이십칠 명이 남았더라.

 

 And when the night came there were thirty and two of the people of Shiz, and twenty and seven of the people of Coriantumr.  15:25.밤이 되매 그 수를 세어 보니 시즈의 편에는 설흔 둘이 남았고, 코리앤툼오어의 편에는 스물 일곱이 남았으니,
이더 15:26 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 먹고 자고, 다음 날 죽을 준비를 하였으니, 그들은 사람의 힘으로는 크고 용맹한 사람들이더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they ate and slept, and prepared for death on the morrow. And they were large and mighty men as to the strength of men.  15:26.저들이 먹고 자며 다음날의 죽음을 준비하였고, 남은 자들은 사람들 중에서 지극히 체격이 크고 힘이 강한 자들이었느니라.
이더 15:27 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 세 시간 동안 싸우고 피를 잃어 기진하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they fought for the space of three hours, and they fainted with the loss of blood.  15:27.그 뒤 저들은 세 시간을 두고 싸워 모두 피를 많이 흘려 기진하였으며,
이더 15:28 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 코리앤투머의 병사들이 걸을 수 있을 만큼 충분한 힘을 얻었을 때, 자기들의 생명을 위하여 바야흐로 도망하고자 하였으나, 보라, 시즈가 일어났고, 그의 병사들도 일어나더니, 저가 그 분노 중에 맹세하되 코리앤투머를 죽이든지 아니면 자기가 칼에 죽을 것을 맹세하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that when the men of Coriantumr had received sufficient strength that they could walk, they were about to flee for their lives; but behold, Shiz arose, and also his men, and he swore in his wrath that he would slay Coriantumr or he would perish by the sword.  15:28.코리앤툼오어의 백성들만이 겨우 걸을 만한 힘을 얻어 목숨을 위해 도망하려 하자, 보라 시즈와 그의 병졸들도 일어서더니 시즈가 노한 중에 저가 코리앤툼오어를 죽이리라 맹세하였고, 그렇지 못하면 저의 칼로 죽으리라 하였느니라.
이더 15:29 그리하여 저가 그들을 추격하더니, 다음 날 그들을 따라잡으매, 그들이 다시 칼로 싸웠더라. 또 이렇게 되었나니 코리앤투머와 시즈를 제외하고 그들 모두가 칼에 엎드러졌을 때, 보라, 시즈가 피를 잃어 기진하였더라.

 

 Wherefore, he did pursue them, and on the morrow he did overtake them; and they fought again with the sword. And it came to pass that when they had all fallen by the sword, save it were Coriantumr and Shiz, behold Shiz had fainted with the loss of blood.  15:29.그리하여 시즈가 저들을 추격하여 다음날 저들과 교전하게 되었으며, 다시 칼을 마주 들고 싸워 코리앤툼오어와 시즈만을 남기고는 모두 칼에 맞아 쓰러졌으되, 보라 시즈는 피를 많이 흘려 기진하였더라.
이더 15:30 이에 이렇게 되었나니 코리앤투머가 자기 칼을 의지하고, 잠시 쉰 후에, 시즈의 머리를 쳐서 베었느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that when Coriantumr had leaned upon his sword, that he rested a little, he smote off the head of Shiz.  15:30.이에 코리앤툼오어는 칼을 짚고 잠시 쉰 후에 시즈의 머리를 잘랐느니라.
이더 15:31 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그가 시즈의 머리를 쳐서 벤 후에, 시즈가 그 손을 짚고 일어나다가 엎드러져서는 숨을 쉬려고 애쓰다가 죽었더라.

 

 And it came to pass that after he had smitten off the head of Shiz, that Shiz raised up on his hands and fell; and after that he had struggled for breath, he died.  15:31.코리앤툼오어가 시즈의 머리를 자르고 나자 시즈가 팔을 짚고 일어나더니 다시 쓰러졌고 잠시 숨을 쉬려 애쓰다가 죽었고,
이더 15:32 또 이렇게 되었나니 코리앤투머도 땅에 엎드러져서, 마치 생명이 없는 자같이 되었던지라.

 

 And it came to pass that Coriantumr fell to the earth, and became as if he had no life.  15:32.코리앤툼오어도 땅에 쓰러져 죽은 자같이 되었느니라.
이더 15:33 이에 주께서 이더에게 말씀하시며 그에게 이르시되, 나아가라 하시었으매, 그가 나아가 주의 말씀이 다 이루어진 것을 보고, 그가 자기의 기록을 마무리하고, (그 백분의 일도 나는 기록하지 아니하였느니라) 림하이의 백성들이 발견하였을 때의 모양으로 그것을 감추었더라.

 

 And the Lord spake unto Ether, and said unto him: Go forth. And he went forth, and beheld that the words of the Lord had all been fulfilled; and he finished his record; (and the hundredth part I have not written) and he hid them in a manner that the people of Limhi did find them.  15:33.이에 주가 이더에게 이르사, 나아가라 하시기로 저가 나아가 주의 하신 말씀이 모두 성취되었음을 보았고, 저가 그 기록을 끝마치더라.(나 모로나이는 그 백분의 일도 기록하지 못하였느니라) 그리고 저는 림하이의 백성들이 찾아 냈을때의 모양대로 감추었더라.
이더 15:34 이제 이더가 기록한 마지막 말이 이러하니라. 내가 하나님의 나라에서 구원받았을진대, 주께서 나로 변화되게 하시든지, 아니면 육체로 주의 뜻을 겪게 하시든지 상관없도다. 아멘.

 

 Now the last words which are written by Ether are these: Whether the Lord will that I be translated, or that I suffer the will of the Lord in the flesh, it mattereth not, if it so be that I am saved in the kingdom of God. Amen.  15:34.이더가 기록한 마지막 말은 이러하니라. 내가 하늘 나라의 구원을 얻을진대 주님께서 변형하게 하시든지 내가 육체로 주의 뜻을 좇아 죽음을 맛보게 하시든지 상관치 아니하리로다. 아멘.
