| 니후 2:1 | 그리고 이제 야곱아, 내가 네게 말하노라. 너는 광야에서 나의 환난의 날에 얻은 첫아들이니라. 또 보라, 너의 어릴 적에 너는 네 형들의 횡포로 인하여 고난과 많은 슬픔을 겪었도다. | And now, Jacob, I speak unto you: Thou art my first-born in the days of my tribulation in the wilderness. And behold, in thy childhood thou hast suffered afflictions and much sorrow, because of the rudeness of thy brethren. |
| 니후 2:2 | 그럼에도 불구하고 광야에서의 나의 첫아들 야곱아, 네가 하나님의 크심을 아나니, 그가 너의 고난을 성별하사 너의 유익이 되게 하시리라. | Nevertheless, Jacob, my first-born in the wilderness, thou knowest the greatness of God; and he shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain. |
| 니후 2:3 | 그런즉 네 영혼이 복될 것이며, 너는 네 형 니파이와 함께 안전히 거할 것이요, 네 날들은 네 하나님을 섬기는 데 보내게 되리라. 그런즉 나는 네 구속주의 의로움으로 인하여 네가 구속되었음을 아노니, 이는 때가 차매 그가 사람들에게 구원을 가져다주러 오심을 네가 보았음이라. | Wherefore, thy soul shall be blessed, and thou shalt dwell safely with thy brother, Nephi; and thy days shall be spent in the service of thy God. Wherefore, I know that thou art redeemed, because of the righteousness of thy Redeemer; for thou hast beheld that in the fulness of time he cometh to bring salvation unto men. |
| 니후 2:4 | 또 너는 네 젊었을 때에 그의 영광을 보았나니, 그런즉 너는 그가 육체로 성역을 베푸실 자들처럼 복되도다. 이는 영은 어제나 오늘이나 영원토록 동일하심이라. 또 사람이 타락한 때로부터 길이 예비 되었으며, 구원은 거저 주어지는 것이니라. | And thou hast beheld in thy youth his glory; wherefore, thou art blessed even as they unto whom he shall minister in the flesh; for the Spirit is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. And the way is prepared from the fall of man, and salvation is free. |
| 니후 2:5 | 또 사람은 선악을 분별할 수 있을 만큼 충분히 가르침을 받았고, 율법이 사람에게 주어졌으며, 율법으로는 아무 육체도 의롭다 하심을 얻지 못하나니, 곧 율법으로는 사람이 끊어지느니라. 참으로 현세에 속한 율법으로 그들은 끊어졌으며, 또한 영에 속한 율법으로 선한 것에서 멸망하여 영원토록 비참하게 되느니라. | And men are instructed sufficiently that they know good from evil. And the law is given unto men. And by the law no flesh is justified; or, by the law men are cut off. Yea, by the temporal law they were cut off; and also, by the spiritual law they perish from that which is good, and become miserable forever. |
| 니후 2:6 | 그러한즉 구속은 거룩하신 메시야 안에서 거룩하신 메시야를 통하여 임하나니, 이는 그가 은혜와 진리로 충만하심이라. | Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth. |
| 니후 2:7 | 보라, 그는 죄를 위한 희생으로 자신을 바치사, 상한 마음과 통회하는 심령을 지닌 모든 자를 위하여 율법의 목적에 부응하시나니, 그들 외에는 아무에게도 율법의 목적이 부응될 수 없느니라. | Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered. |
| 니후 2:8 | 그러한즉 이러한 것들을 땅의 주민들에게 알려, 거룩하신 메시야의 공덕과 자비와 은혜로 말미암지 않고서는, 하나님 면전에 거할 수 있는 육체가 하나도 없음을 그들로 알게 하는 것이 얼마나 중요하겠느냐. 그는 육체를 따라 그의 생명을 버리시고 영의 권능으로 그의 생명을 다시 취하시나니, 그리하여 일어날 자의 첫째가 되사 죽은 자의 부활을 이루시리라. | Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise. |
| 니후 2:9 | 그런즉 그는 하나님께 첫 열매니, 그가 모든 사람의 자녀들을 위하여 중재하실 것임이라. 또 그를 믿는 자들은 구원을 얻으리라. | Wherefore, he is the firstfruits unto God, inasmuch as he shall make intercession for all the children of men; and they that believe in him shall be saved. |
| 니후 2:10 | 또 모두를 위한 중재로 말미암아 만인이 하나님께 나아오나니, 그런즉 그들이 그의 면전에 서서 그의 안에 있는 진리와 거룩함을 따라 그에게 심판을 받으리라. 그러한즉 거룩하신 이가 주신 율법의 목적은, 부가된 형벌을 가하는 데 이르나니 부가된 이 형벌은 부가된 행복과 반대가 되는 것인 바, 이는 속죄의 목적에 부응하기 위한 것이니 - | And because of the intercession for all, all men come unto God; wherefore, they stand in the presence of him, to be judged of him according to the truth and holiness which is in him. Wherefore, the ends of the law which the Holy One hath given, unto the inflicting of the punishment which is affixed, which punishment that is affixed is in opposition to that of the happiness which is affixed, to answer the ends of the atonement- |
| 니후 2:11 | 이는 모든 것에 반대되는 것이 있음이 꼭 필요함이라. 만일 그렇지 않다고 한다면, 광야에서의 나의 첫아들아, 의로움이 이루어질 수 없으리니, 간악함도 그러하며, 거룩함이나 비참함이나, 선이나 악이 이루어질 수 없을 것이니라. 그런즉 모든 것이 혼합되어 하나가 되어야 할 것이라. 그러한즉 만일 한 몸이 된다 할진대, 생명도 없고 사망도 없으며, 썩음도 썩지 아니함도 없고, 행복이나 비참도 없으며, 느낌도 느끼지 못함도 없이, 죽은 채로 그저 있어야만 하리라. | For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility. |
| 니후 2:12 | 그런즉 창조된 것이 허사임이 분명하니, 그런즉 그 창조의 목적에 아무 목적 하는 바가 없게 되었을 것이라. 그런즉 이것은 하나님의 지혜와 그의 영원한 목적과 또한 하나님의 권능과 자비와 공의를 무너뜨리지 않을 수 없으리라. | Wherefore, it must needs have been created for a thing of naught; wherefore there would have been no purpose in the end of its creation. Wherefore, this thing must needs destroy the wisdom of God and his eternal purposes, and also the power, and the mercy, and the justice of God. |
| 니후 2:13 | 또 너희가 말하기를, 율법이 없다 할진대 너희는 또한 죄가 없다 하리라. 너희가 말하기를, 죄가 없다 할진대 너희는 또한 의가 없다 하리라. 또 의가 없을진대 행복이 없을지라. 의가 없고 행복도 없을진대 형벌이나 비참도 없을지라. 또 만일 이러한 것이 없다고 하면 하나님이 계시지 아니한 것이라. 또 만일 하나님이 계시지 않다면, 우리도 없고 세상도 없나니, 이는 행하거나 행함을 받는 것들의 창조가 없었을 것임이라. 그런즉 만물이 다 사라져 버렸으리라. | And if ye shall say there is no law, ye shall also say there is no sin. If ye shall say there is no sin, ye shall also say there is no righteousness. And if there be no righteousness there be no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not there is no God. And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away. |
| 니후 2:14 | 이제 나의 아들들아, 나는 너희의 유익과 배움이 되도록 이러한 것을 너희에게 말하노라. 이는 하나님이 한 분 계시고 그가 만물을 창조하시되, 하늘과 땅과 그 가운데 있는 모든 것 곧 행하는 것들과 행함을 받는 것들 모두를 창조하셨음이라. | And now, my sons, I speak unto you these things for your profit and learning; for there is a God, and he hath created all things, both the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are, both things to act and things to be acted upon. |
| 니후 2:15 | 또 그가 우리의 첫 부모와, 들의 짐승과 공중의 새와, 요컨대 창조된 모든 것을 다 창조하신 후, 사람의 종말에 그의 영원한 목적을 이루시기 위하여 반대되는 것이 반드시 있어야 하였나니, 곧 생명의 나무에 반대되는 금단의 열매라. 하나는 달고 다른 하나는 쓴 것이니라. | And to bring about his eternal purposes in the end of man, after he had created our first parents, and the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and in fine, all things which are created, it must needs be that there was an opposition; even the forbidden fruit in opposition to the tree of life; the one being sweet and the other bitter. |
| 니후 2:16 | 그리하여 주 하나님께서는 사람으로 하여금 스스로 행하게 하시었나니, 그런즉 사람은 이편이나 저편에 의해 이끌리지 않고서는 스스로 행할 수 없었느니라. | Wherefore, the Lord God gave unto man that he should act for himself. Wherefore, man could not act for himself save it should be that he was enticed by the one or the other. |
| 니후 2:17 | 그리고 나 리하이는 내가 읽은 바에 따라, 이같이 생각하지 않을 수 없나니, 곧 기록된 바에 따르면 하나님의 한 천사가 하늘에서 타락하였느니라. 그리하여 그가 악마가 되었나니 하나님 앞에 악한 것을 구하였음이라. | And I, Lehi, according to the things which I have read, must needs suppose that an angel of God, according to that which is written, had fallen from heaven; wherefore, he became a devil, having sought that which was evil before God. |
| 니후 2:18 | 이에 그가 하늘에서 타락하여 영원토록 비참하게 된지라, 그가 또한 온 인류를 비참하게 하고자 하였느니라. 그리하여 그가 이브에게 일렀나니, 참으로 악마요 모든 거짓의 아비인 저 옛 뱀이라. 그런즉 그가 이르기를, 금단의 열매를 먹으라. 그리하면 너희가 죽지 않고 오히려 하나님과 같이 되어 선악을 알게 되리라 하였느니라. | And because he had fallen from heaven, and had become miserable forever, he sought also the misery of all mankind. Wherefore, he said unto Eve, yea, even that old serpent, who is the devil, who is the father of all lies, wherefore he said: Partake of the forbidden fruit, and ye shall not die, but ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil. |
| 니후 2:19 | 그리고 아담과 이브가 금단의 열매를 먹은 후에, 그들은 에덴 동산에서 쫓겨나 땅을 갈게 되었느니라. | And after Adam and Eve had partaken of the forbidden fruit they were driven out of the garden of Eden, to till the earth. |
| 니후 2:20 | 그리고 그들이 자녀를 낳았나니, 참으로 곧 온 세상의 가족이라. | And they have brought forth children; yea, even the family of all the earth. |
| 니후 2:21 | 그리고 하나님의 뜻에 따라 사람의 자녀들의 날이 연장되었으니, 이는 그들이 육체로 있는 동안 회개하게 하려 함이라. 그리하여 그들의 상태는 시험의 상태가 되었고, 주 하나님께서 사람의 자녀들에게 주신 계명에 따라 그들의 때가 길어졌느니라. 이는 그가 모든 사람은 반드시 회개해야 한다는 계명을 주셨음이니, 이는 그가 모든 사람들에게 그들이 그들 부모의 범법으로 말미암아 잃은 바 되었음을 보여 주셨음이라. | And the days of the children of men were prolonged, according to the will of God, that they might repent while in the flesh; wherefore, their state became a state of probation, and their time was lengthened, according to the commandments which the Lord God gave unto the children of men. For he gave commandment that all men must repent; for he showed unto all men that they were lost, because of the transgression of their parents. |
| 니후 2:22 | 그리고 이제, 보라, 만일 아담이 범법하지 않았더라면 타락하지 아니하였을 것이요, 에덴 동산에 그대로 머물렀을 것이라. 그리고 창조된 모든 것이 창조된 후에 있었던 것과 같은 상태에 그대로 머물렀으리니, 영원히 머물러 끝이 없었으리라. | And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end. |
| 니후 2:23 | 또 그들은 자녀를 갖지 못하였을 것이요, 그리하여 그들은 무지한 상태에 머물렀으리니, 비참을 알지 못하매 기쁨이 없고, 죄를 알지 못하매 선을 행하지 못하였으리라. | And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no sin. |
| 니후 2:24 | 그러나 보라, 만사는 모든 것을 아시는 이의 지혜 안에서 이루어졌느니라. | But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things. |
| 니후 2:25 | 아담이 타락한 것은 사람이 존재하게 하려 함이요, 사람이 존재함은 기쁨을 갖기 위함이니라. | Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy. |
| 니후 2:26 | 그리고 메시야는 사람의 자녀들을 타락에서 구속하시고자 때가 찰 때 오시느니라. 또 그들은 타락에서 구속되었으므로 선악을 분별하며 영원히 자유롭게 되었나니, 하나님께서 주신 계명에 따라, 저 큰 마지막 날에 있을 율법의 형벌에 의한 것을 제외하고는, 스스로 행하며 행함을 받지 아니하게 되었느니라. | And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given. |
| 니후 2:27 | 그러한즉 육체로 말할진대 사람은 자유로우며, 사람에게 마땅한 것은 모두 그들에게 주어졌느니라. 또 그들은 자유로이 만인의 크신 중보자를 통하여 자유와 영생을 택하거나, 그렇지 아니하면 악마의 사로잡음과 능력에 따라 사로잡힘과 죽음을 택할 수도 있나니, 이는 그가 만인을 자기처럼 비참하게 되게 하려 함이라. | Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself. |
| 니후 2:28 | 이에 이제 나의 아들들아, 나는 너희가 크신 중보자를 바라보고 그의 큰 계명들을 순종하고 그의 말씀에 충실하여, 그의 성령의 뜻을 좇아 영생을 택하고, | And now, my sons, I would that ye should look to the great Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments; and be faithful unto his words, and choose eternal life, according to the will of his Holy Spirit; |
| 니후 2:29 | 또 육체의 뜻과 그 안에 있는 악을 좇아 영원한 죽음을 택하지 않기 바라노니, 그러한 것은 악마의 영에게 너희를 사로잡아 지옥으로 끌어내릴 능력을 주어, 그로 자기의 왕국에서 너희를 다스리게 하느니라. | And not choose eternal death, according to the will of the flesh and the evil which is therein, which giveth the spirit of the devil power to captivate, to bring you down to hell, that he may reign over you in his own kingdom. |
| 니후 2:30 | 나의 아들들아, 나는 나의 시험의 날의 마지막 때에 너희 모두에게 이 몇 마디 말을 하였노니, 나는 선지자의 말을 좇아 좋은 편을 택하였으며, 나는 너희 영혼의 영원한 복리 이외에는 아무 다른 목적도 갖고 있지 아니하니라. 아멘. | I have spoken these few words unto you all, my sons, in the last days of my probation; and I have chosen the good part, according to the words of the prophet. And I have none other object save it be the everlasting welfare of your souls. Amen. |
