소개 엘리바스가 다음과 같은 질문으로 욥을 책망함. “정직한 자의 끊어짐이 어디 있는가?”“사람이 어찌 그 창조하신 이보다 성결하겠는냐?” Eliphaz reproves Job, asking such questions as: Are the righteous cut off? and, Shall a man be more pure than his maker?

 
욥 4:1 데만 사람 엘리바스가 대답하여 이르되 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

 
욥 4:2 누가 네게 말하면 네가 싫증을 내겠느냐, 누가 참고 말하지 아니하겠느냐 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

 
욥 4:3 보라 전에 네가 여러 사람을 훈계하였고 손이 늘어진 자를 강하게 하였고 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

 
욥 4:4 넘어지는 자를 말로 붙들어 주었고 무릎이 약한 자를 강하게 하였거늘 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

 
욥 4:5 이제 이 일이 네게 이르매 네가 힘들어 하고 이 일이 네게 닥치매 네가 놀라는구나 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

 
욥 4:6 네 경외함이 네 자랑이 아니냐 네 소망이 네 온전한 길이 아니냐 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

 
욥 4:7 생각하여 보라 죄 없이 망한 자가 누구인가 정직한 자의 끊어짐이 어디 있는가 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

 
욥 4:8 내가 보건대 악을 밭 갈고 독을 뿌리는 자는 그대로 거두나니 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

 
욥 4:9 다 하나님의 입 기운에 멸망하고 그의 콧김에 사라지느니라 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

 
욥 4:10 사자의 우는 소리와 젊은 사자의 소리가 그치고 어린 사자의 이가 부러지며 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

 
욥 4:11 사자는 사냥한 것이 없어 죽어 가고 암사자의 새끼는 흩어지느니라 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.

 
욥 4:12 어떤 말씀이 내게 가만히 이르고 그 가느다란 소리가 내 귀에 들렸었나니 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.

 
욥 4:13 사람이 깊이 잠들 즈음 내가 그 밤에 본 환상으로 말미암아 생각이 번거로울 때에 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,

 
욥 4:14 두려움과 떨림이 내게 이르러서 모든 뼈마디가 흔들렸느니라 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.

 
욥 4:15 그 때에 영이 내 앞으로 지나매 내 몸에 털이 주뼛하였느니라 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

 
욥 4:16 그 영이 서 있는데 나는 그 형상을 알아보지는 못하여도 오직 한 형상이 내 눈 앞에 있었느니라 그 때에 내가 조용한 중에 한 목소리를 들으니 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

 
욥 4:17 사람이 어찌 하나님보다 의롭겠느냐 사람이 어찌 그 창조하신 이보다 깨끗하겠느냐 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

 
욥 4:18 하나님은 그의 종이라도 그대로 믿지 아니하시며 그의 천사라도 미련하다 하시나니 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

 
욥 4:19 하물며 흙 집에 살며 티끌로 터를 삼고 하루살이 앞에서라도 무너질 자이겠느냐 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

 
욥 4:20 아침과 저녁 사이에 부스러져 가루가 되며 영원히 사라지되 기억하는 자가 없으리라 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.

 
욥 4:21 장막 줄이 그들에게서 뽑히지 아니하겠느냐 그들은 지혜가 없이 죽느니라 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
