소개 엘리후의 이야기. 사람의 영혼을 구덩이에서 끌어 돌이키고 생명의 빛으로 그에게 비취려는 하나님의 뜻. Elihu says: God is greater than man—He speaks to man in dreams and visions—He ransoms those cast into the pit—He delivers their souls and gives them life.

 
욥 33:1 그런즉 욥이여 내 말을 들으며 내 모든 말에 귀를 기울이기를 원하노라 Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

 
욥 33:2 내가 입을 여니 내 혀가 입에서 말하는구나 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

 
욥 33:3 내 마음의 정직함이 곧 내 말이며 내 입술이 아는 바가 진실을 말하느니라 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

 
욥 33:4 하나님의 영이 나를 지으셨고 전능자의 기운이 나를 살리시느니라 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

 
욥 33:5 그대가 할 수 있거든 일어서서 내게 대답하고 내 앞에 진술하라 If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

 
욥 33:6 나와 그대가 하나님 앞에서 동일하니 나도 흙으로 지으심을 입었은즉 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

 
욥 33:7 내 위엄으로는 그대를 두렵게 하지 못하고 내 손으로는 그대를 누르지 못하느니라 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

 
욥 33:8 그대는 실로 내가 듣는 데서 말하였고 나는 그대의 말소리를 들었느니라 Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

 
욥 33:9 이르기를 나는 깨끗하여 악인이 아니며 순전하고 불의도 없거늘 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

 
욥 33:10 참으로 하나님이 나에게서 잘못을 찾으시며 나를 자기의 원수로 여기사 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

 
욥 33:11 내 발을 차꼬에 채우시고 나의 모든 길을 감시하신다 하였느니라 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

 
욥 33:12 내가 그대에게 대답하리라 이 말에 그대가 의롭지 못하니 하나님은 사람보다 크심이니라 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

 
욥 33:13 하나님께서 사람의 말에 대답하지 않으신다 하여 어찌 하나님과 논쟁하겠느냐 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

 
욥 33:14 하나님은 한 번 말씀하시고 다시 말씀하시되 사람은 관심이 없도다 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

 
욥 33:15 사람이 침상에서 졸며 깊이 잠들 때에나 꿈에나 밤에 환상을 볼 때에 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

 
욥 33:16 그가 사람의 귀를 여시고 경고로써 두렵게 하시니 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

 
욥 33:17 이는 사람에게 그의 행실을 버리게 하려 하심이며 사람의 교만을 막으려 하심이라 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

 
욥 33:18 그는 사람의 혼을 구덩이에 빠지지 않게 하시며 그 생명을 칼에 맞아 멸망하지 않게 하시느니라 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

 
욥 33:19 혹은 사람이 병상의 고통과 뼈가 늘 쑤심의 징계를 받나니 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

 
욥 33:20 그의 생명은 음식을 싫어하고 그의 마음은 별미를 싫어하며 So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

 
욥 33:21 그의 살은 파리하여 보이지 아니하고 보이지 않던 뼈가 드러나서 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

 
욥 33:22 그의 마음은 구덩이에, 그의 생명은 멸하는 자에게 가까워지느니라 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

 
욥 33:23 만일 일천 천사 가운데 하나가 그 사람의 중보자로 함께 있어서 그의 정당함을 보일진대 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

 
욥 33:24 하나님이 그 사람을 불쌍히 여기사 그를 건져서 구덩이에 내려가지 않게 하라 내가 대속물을 얻었다 하시리라 Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

 
욥 33:25 그런즉 그의 살이 청년보다 부드러워지며 젊음을 회복하리라 His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:

 
욥 33:26 그는 하나님께 기도하므로 하나님이 은혜를 베푸사 그로 말미암아 기뻐 외치며 하나님의 얼굴을 보게 하시고 사람에게 그의 공의를 회복시키시느니라 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

 
욥 33:27 그가 사람 앞에서 노래하여 이르기를 내가 범죄하여 옳은 것을 그르쳤으나 내게 무익하였구나 He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

 
욥 33:28 하나님이 내 영혼을 건지사 구덩이에 내려가지 않게 하셨으니 내 생명이 빛을 보겠구나 하리라 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

 
욥 33:29 실로 하나님이 사람에게 이 모든 일을 재삼 행하심은 Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

 
욥 33:30 그들의 영혼을 구덩이에서 이끌어 생명의 빛을 그들에게 비추려 하심이니라 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

 
욥 33:31 욥이여 내 말을 귀담아 들으라 잠잠하라 내가 말하리라 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

 
욥 33:32 만일 할 말이 있거든 대답하라 내가 기쁜 마음으로 그대를 의롭다 하리니 그대는 말하라 If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

 
욥 33:33 만일 없으면 내 말을 들으라 잠잠하라 내가 지혜로 그대를 가르치리라 If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
