소개 욥이 부활에 관해서 언급함. 사람이 만일 죽으면 다시 살수 있나이까? 라는 질문을 던지고, 주께서 무덤에서 나오라 부르시기를 기다릴 것임을 이야기 함. Job testifies of the shortness of life, the certainty of death, and the guarantee of a resurrection—He asks: If a man die, shall he live again?—He answers that he will await the Lord’s call to come forth from the grave.

 
욥 14:1 여인에게서 태어난 사람은 생애가 짧고 걱정이 가득하며 Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.

 
욥 14:2 그는 꽃과 같이 자라나서 시들며 그림자 같이 지나가며 머물지 아니하거늘 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

 
욥 14:3 이와 같은 자를 주께서 눈여겨 보시나이까 나를 주 앞으로 이끌어서 재판하시나이까 And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

 
욥 14:4 누가 깨끗한 것을 더러운 것 가운데에서 낼 수 있으리이까 하나도 없나이다 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

 
욥 14:5 그의 날을 정하셨고 그의 달 수도 주께 있으므로 그의 규례를 정하여 넘어가지 못하게 하셨사온즉 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

 
욥 14:6 그에게서 눈을 돌이켜 그가 품꾼 같이 그의 날을 마칠 때까지 그를 홀로 있게 하옵소서 Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.

 
욥 14:7 나무는 희망이 있나니 찍힐지라도 다시 움이 나서 연한 가지가 끊이지 아니하며 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

 
욥 14:8 그 뿌리가 땅에서 늙고 줄기가 흙에서 죽을지라도 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

 
욥 14:9 물 기운에 움이 돋고 가지가 뻗어서 새로 심은 것과 같거니와 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

 
욥 14:10 장정이라도 죽으면 소멸되나니 인생이 숨을 거두면 그가 어디 있느냐 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

 
욥 14:11 물이 바다에서 줄어들고 강물이 잦아서 마름 같이 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

 
욥 14:12 사람이 누우면 다시 일어나지 못하고 하늘이 없어지기까지 눈을 뜨지 못하며 잠을 깨지 못하느니라 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

 
욥 14:13 주는 나를 스올에 감추시며 주의 진노를 돌이키실 때까지 나를 숨기시고 나를 위하여 규례를 정하시고 나를 기억하옵소서 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

 
욥 14:14 장정이라도 죽으면 어찌 다시 살리이까 나는 나의 모든 고난의 날 동안을 참으면서 풀려나기를 기다리겠나이다 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

 
욥 14:15 주께서는 나를 부르시겠고 나는 대답하겠나이다 주께서는 주의 손으로 지으신 것을 기다리시겠나이다 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

 
욥 14:16 그러하온데 이제 주께서 나의 걸음을 세시오니 나의 죄를 감찰하지 아니하시나이까 For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

 
욥 14:17 주는 내 허물을 주머니에 봉하시고 내 죄악을 싸매시나이다 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

 
욥 14:18 무너지는 산은 반드시 흩어지고 바위는 그 자리에서 옮겨가고 And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.

 
욥 14:19 물은 돌을 닳게 하고 넘치는 물은 땅의 티끌을 씻어버리나이다 이와 같이 주께서는 사람의 희망을 끊으시나이다 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

 
욥 14:20 주께서 사람을 영원히 이기셔서 떠나게 하시며 그의 얼굴 빛을 변하게 하시고 쫓아보내시오니 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

 
욥 14:21 그의 아들들이 존귀하게 되어도 그가 알지 못하며 그들이 비천하게 되어도 그가 깨닫지 못하나이다 His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.

 
욥 14:22 다만 그의 살이 아프고 그의 영혼이 애곡할 뿐이니이다 But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
