소개 욥이 자신이 번성했던 과거를 회상함. 그의 의로움과, 순결함과, 선행으로 인해 복을 받았음. Job recalls his former prosperity and greatness—He was blessed because of his righteousness, his charity, and his good deeds.

 
욥 29:1 욥이 풍자하여 이르되 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

 
욥 29:2 나는 지난 세월과 하나님이 나를 보호하시던 때가 다시 오기를 원하노라 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

 
욥 29:3 그 때에는 그의 등불이 내 머리에 비치었고 내가 그의 빛을 힘입어 암흑에서도 걸어다녔느니라 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

 
욥 29:4 내가 원기 왕성하던 날과 같이 지내기를 원하노라 그 때에는 하나님이 내 장막에 기름을 발라 주셨도다 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

 
욥 29:5 그 때에는 전능자가 아직도 나와 함께 계셨으며 나의 젊은이들이 나를 둘러 있었으며 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

 
욥 29:6 젖으로 내 발자취를 씻으며 바위가 나를 위하여 기름 시내를 쏟아냈으며 When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

 
욥 29:7 그 때에는 내가 나가서 성문에 이르기도 하며 내 자리를 거리에 마련하기도 하였느니라 When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

 
욥 29:8 나를 보고 젊은이들은 숨으며 노인들은 일어나서 서며 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

 
욥 29:9 유지들은 말을 삼가고 손으로 입을 가리며 The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

 
욥 29:10 지도자들은 말소리를 낮추었으니 그들의 혀가 입천장에 붙었느니라 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

 
욥 29:11 귀가 들은즉 나를 축복하고 눈이 본즉 나를 증언하였나니 When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

 
욥 29:12 이는 부르짖는 빈민과 도와 줄 자 없는 고아를 내가 건졌음이라 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

 
욥 29:13 망하게 된 자도 나를 위하여 복을 빌었으며 과부의 마음이 나로 말미암아 기뻐 노래하였느니라 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

 
욥 29:14 내가 의를 옷으로 삼아 입었으며 나의 정의는 겉옷과 모자 같았느니라 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

 
욥 29:15 나는 맹인의 눈도 되고 다리 저는 사람의 발도 되고 I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.

 
욥 29:16 빈궁한 자의 아버지도 되며 내가 모르는 사람의 송사를 돌보아 주었으며 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

 
욥 29:17 불의한 자의 턱뼈를 부수고 노획한 물건을 그 잇새에서 빼내었느니라 And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

 
욥 29:18 내가 스스로 말하기를 나는 내 보금자리에서 숨을 거두며 나의 날은 모래알 같이 많으리라 하였느니라 Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

 
욥 29:19 내 뿌리는 물로 뻗어나가고 이슬이 내 가지에서 밤을 지내고 갈 것이며 My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

 
욥 29:20 내 영광은 내게 새로워지고 내 손에서 내 화살이 끊이지 않았노라 My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

 
욥 29:21 무리는 내 말을 듣고 희망을 걸었으며 내가 가르칠 때에 잠잠하였노라 Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

 
욥 29:22 내가 말한 후에는 그들이 말을 거듭하지 못하였나니 나의 말이 그들에게 스며들었음이라 After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

 
욥 29:23 그들은 비를 기다리듯 나를 기다렸으며 봄비를 맞이하듯 입을 벌렸느니라 And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

 
욥 29:24 그들이 의지 없을 때에 내가 미소하면 그들이 나의 얼굴 빛을 무색하게 아니하였느니라 If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

 
욥 29:25 내가 그들의 길을 택하여 주고 으뜸되는 자리에 앉았나니 왕이 군대 중에 있는 것과도 같았고 애곡하는 자를 위로하는 사람과도 같았느니라 I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
