 And it came to pass that we again began to establish the kingdom and we again began to possess the land in peace. And I caused that there should be weapons of war made of every kind, that thereby I might have weapons for my people against the time the Lamanites should come up again to war against my people. 10:1.다시 우리는 왕국을 회복하고 땅을 차지하여 평화롭게 지냈으며, 온갖 전쟁 무기를 마련하여 백성들로 하여금 레이맨인들이 다시 나의 백성들을 침범하여 전쟁을 일으킬 때를 위해 대비하게 하였고,

 And I set guards round about the land, that the Lamanites might not come upon us again unawares and destroy us; and thus I did guard my people and my flocks, and keep them from falling into the hands of our enemies. 10:2.우리 땅 둘레에 초병을 세워 레이맨인들이 불시에 쳐들어 와 우리를 치지 못하도록 경계하였으며, 이같이하여 나는 나의 백성과 가족들을 지켜 적의 손에 떨어지지 않게 하였으며, 
모사 10:3 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 우리는 여러 해 동안, 곧 이십이 년 동안 우리 조상들의 땅을 기업으로 누렸느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that we did inherit the land of our fathers for many years, yea, for the space of twenty and two years. 10:3.우리는 조상들의 땅에서 이십이년이나 되는 오랜 동안을 살면서, 
모사 10:4 또 나는 남자들로 하여금 땅을 갈고, 온갖 곡식과 각종 온갖 과일을 재배하게 하였느니라.

 

And I did cause that the men should till the ground, and raise all manner of grain and all manner of fruit of every kind.

과일 fruit : 니전17:5, 6, 18:6에서는 '과실'로 번역되었으나, 니전8:1, 이노1:21, 모사10:4, 이더9:17에서는 '과일'이라 번역되었다.

비유로써의 fruit은 '열매'로 많이 번역이 되었고, 식량으로서의 fruit은 '과일' 및 '과실'로 번역이 되었다.

 10:4.나는 남자들에게는 땅을 갈아 온갖 곡물과 온갖 과일을 재배하게 하였고, 
모사 10:5 나는 또 여자들로 하여금 길쌈을 하며, 수고하며, 일하며, 온갖 세마포와, 또한 각종 옷감을 짜게 하여, 우리가 우리의 벌거벗음을 가리울 수 있게 하였나니, 이같이 우리는 이 땅에서 번영하였고 - 이리하여 우리는 이십이 년 동안 계속하여 평화를 누렸느니라.

 

 And I did cause that the women should spin, and toil, and work, and work all manner of fine linen, yea, and cloth of every kind, that we might clothe our nakedness; and thus we did prosper in the land?hus we did have continual peace in the land for the space of twenty and two years. 10:5.여자들은 길쌈을 하며 부지런히 가사를 돌보며 온갖 훌륭한 세마포와 천을 만들어 우리의 벗은 몸을 가리게 하였으며, 이같이 우리는 그 땅에서 번영하여 이십 이년 동안을 줄곧 평화롭게 지내었더니, 
모사 10:6 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨 왕이 죽고, 그의 아들이 그를 대신하여 다스리기 시작하더니, 그가 나의 백성을 거스려 모반하여 자기 백성을 선동하기 시작한지라. 그러므로 그들이 전쟁을 준비하기 시작하며, 나의 백성을 대적하여 싸우러 올라오기 시작하였느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that king Laman died, and his son began to reign in his stead. And he began to stir his people up in rebellion against my people; therefore they began to prepare for war, and to come up to battle against my people. 10:6.레이맨 왕이 죽고 그의 아들이 그 뒤를 이어 다스리게 되고 나서, 저가 또다시 레이맨인들을 책동하여 나의 백성들을 대적하게 하매, 저들이 전쟁을 준비하며 싸움을 일으켜 나의 백성들을 칠 준비를 하였으나, 
모사 10:7 그러나 나는 그들의 준비를 알아내어, 그들에게 대하여 방비하여 그들이 내 백성을 습격하여 멸하지 못하게 하고자, 셈론 땅 주위에 나의 정탐들을 내보내 두었었느니라.

 

 But I had sent my spies out round about the land of Shemlon, that I might discover their preparations, that I might guard against them, that they might not come upon my people and destroy them. 10:7.내가 이미 셰믈론 땅에 나의 첩자들을 보내어, 우리가 저들을 막아내며 나의 백성들을 침범하여 멸하지 못하게 하고자 저들의 전쟁 준비를 알아 내었더라. 
모사 10:8 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 그들의 수많은 무리와 함께 샤일롬 땅 북방으로 올라왔으니, 곧 활과 화살과 검과 신월도와 돌과 물매로 무장을 한 자들이라. 그들은 머리를 밀어 그 머리로 벗어지게 하였으며, 그 허리에는 가죽띠를 둘렀더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they came up upon the north of the land of Shilom, with their numerous hosts, men armed with bows, and with arrows, and with swords, and with cimeters, and with stones, and with slings; and they had their heads shaved that they were naked; and they were girded with a leathern girdle about their loins. 10:8.레이맨인들이 활과 화살, 검, 신월도, 돌, 투석기 등으로 무장을 한 무수한 대군으로 샤일롬 북쪽 땅으로 쳐들어 오는데, 머리털은 칼로 밀어 중머리를 하고 벌거벗었으며 허리에는 가죽으로 된 띠를 둘렀느니라. 
모사 10:9 이에 이렇게 되었나니 내가 내 백성 중에 여자들과 어린아이들을 광야에 숨게 하였고, 내가 또한 무기를 들 수 있는 나의 모든 늙은이들과 또한 능히 무기를 들 수 있는 나의 모든 젊은이들로 하여금 함께 모여 레이맨인들을 대적하여 싸우러 가도록 하되, 나는 그들을 각자 그 나이를 따라 그들의 대열에 배치하였느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that I caused that the women and children of my people should be hid in the wilderness; and I also caused that all my old men that could bear arms, and also all my young men that were able to bear arms, should gather themselves together to go to battle against the Lamanites; and I did place them in their ranks, every man according to his age. 10:9.이에 나는 부녀자들을 광야에 피신하게 하고 연로한 자들도 무기를 다룰 수 있는 자들 모두와 젊은이들을 무장시켜 이들을 모두 거느리고 레이맨인들을 맞아 싸움터에 나갔으며, 나의 병사들을 각각 그 연령대로 계급을 정해 주었고, 
모사 10:10 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 우리가 레이맨인들을 대적하여 싸우러 올라갔고, 나, 곧 나도 내 늙은 나이에 레이맨인들을 대적하여 싸우러 올라갔느니라. 또 이렇게 되었나니 우리는 참으로 주의 힘을 입고 싸우러 올라갔느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that we did go up to battle against the Lamanites; and I, even I, in my old age, did go up to battle against the Lamanites. And it came to pass that we did go up in the strength of the Lord to battle. 10:10.우리가 레이맨인들과 선장에서 맞부딪치매 내가 비록 늙었으나 레이맨인들을 대항하여 쳐 나아갔고, 우리는 모두 주의 힘을 의지하여 싸움터에 내달았으나, 
모사 10:11 이제 레이맨인들은 주에 관하여서나, 주의 힘에 관하여 아무것도 알지 못했던지라. 그러므로 그들은 그들 자신의 힘에 의지하였더라. 그럼에도 그들은 사람의 힘으로는 강한 백성이었느니라.

 

 Now, the Lamanites knew nothing concerning the Lord, nor the strength of the Lord, therefore they depended upon their own strength. Yet they were a strong people, as to the strength of men. 10:11.레이맨인들은 주에 관하여서나 주의 힘에 관하여 아는 바가 없어 오직 저들의 힘만을 의지하기는 하였으되 저들은 뭇사람보다도 그 힘이 강한 백성이었으며, 
모사 10:12 그들은 거칠고, 흉포하며, 피에 목마른 백성으로, 그들 조상의 전통을 믿었나니, 그 전통은 이것이라 - 곧 믿기를 그들은 그들 조상의 죄악으로 말미암아 예루살렘 땅에서 쫓겨났으며, 또 그들은 광야에서 그 형제들에게 불의를 당하였으며, 또 그들은 바다를 건너는 동안에도 불의를 당하였으며,

 

 They were a wild, and ferocious, and a blood-thirsty people, believing in the tradition of their fathers, which is this—Believing that they were driven out of the land of Jerusalem because of the iniquities of their fathers, and that they were wronged in the wilderness by their brethren, and they were also wronged while crossing the sea; 10:12.거칠고 잔인하며 피에 목이 마른 저들 조상들이 전해 준 관습적인 전언을 믿었으니, 그 전언은 조상의 죄악으로 예루살렘땅을 쫓겨나 광야에 있을때 형제들의 학대를 받았으며 바다를 건널때 학대를 받았고,

And again, that they were wronged while in the land of their first inheritance, after they had crossed the sea, and all this because that Nephi was more faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord-therefore he was favored of the Lord, for the Lord heard his prayers and answered them, and he took the lead of their journey in the wilderness.

 And his brethren were wroth with him because they understood not the dealings of the Lord; they were also wroth with him upon the waters because they hardened their hearts against the Lord. 10:14.니파이의 형제들은 주님의 행하시는 바를 깨닫지 못하여 니파이에게 화를 내었으며, 바다에 있을 때에도 저들은 하나님께 향하여 마음을 강퍅하게 먹었던지라 니파이에게 화를 내었고, 
모사 10:15 그리고 또 그들은 약속된 땅에 도착하였을 때 그에게 노하였으니, 이는 그들이 말하기를 그가 우리의 손에서 백성 다스림을 빼앗았다 하는 연고라, 이에 그들은 그를 죽이려 하였느니라.

 

 And again, they were wroth with him when they had arrived in the promised land, because they said that he had taken the ruling of the people out of their hands; and they sought to kill him. 10:15.저들이 약속의 땅에 도착해서는, 니파이가 저들에게서 백성들을 다스리는 권한을 빼앗았다 하여 니파이에게 화를 내며 니파이를 죽이려 하였으며, 
모사 10:16 그리고 또 그들은 그가 주께서 그에게 명하신 대로 광야로 떠나며 놋쇠판에 새겨진 기록들을 취한 까닭에 그에게 노하였나니, 이는 그들이 말하기를 그가 우리의 것을 도적질하였다 하였음이라.

 

 And again, they were wroth with him because he departed into the wilderness as the Lord had commanded him, and took the records which were engraven on the plates of brass, for they said that he robbed them. 10:16.니파이가 주님의 명에따라 놋쇠판에 새겨진 기록을 취하여 광야로 떠났을때 저들은 니파이가 그 놋쇠판을 훔쳤다 하여 니파이에게 화를 내었던 것이라. 
모사 10:17 이같이 그들은 그 자녀들을 가르쳐 그들로 하여금 그들을 미워하게 하고, 그들로 하여금 그들을 살해하게 하고, 그들로 하여금 그들에게서 탈취하고 약탈하며, 그들을 멸하기 위하여 그들이 할 수 있는 모든 일을 다하게 하였나니, 그러므로 그들은 니파이의 자손들에 대한 영원한 증오를 가지고 있느니라.

 

 And thus they have taught their children that they should hate them, and that they should murder them, and that they should rob and plunder them, and do all they could to destroy them; therefore they have an eternal hatred towards the children of Nephi. 10:17.이같이 하여 저들은 자녀들에게 니파이인들을 미워하고 죽이고 저들의 것을 도둑질하며 약탈하고 저들을 멸할 수 있는 온갖 수단을 다하도록 가르쳐, 영원토록 니파이의 자녀를 미워하게 하였느니라. 
모사 10:18 바로 이 까닭에 레이맨 왕은 그의 간사함과 간교한 거짓과 그럴듯한 약속으로 나를 속여, 내가 나의 이 백성을 이 땅으로 인도해 올려 들이도록 하였고, 그들을 멸하고자 하였느니라. 참으로 우리는 이 여러 해를 이 땅에서 고생해 왔느니라.

 

 For this very cause has king Laman, by his cunning, and lying craftiness, and his fair promises, deceived me, that I have brought this my people up into this land, that they may destroy them; yea, and we have suffered these many years in the land. 10:18.바로 이러한 사유를 들어 말하며 레이맨 왕은 그의 간계와 거짓 술책으로 그럴듯한 약속을 꾸며 나를 속여 내가 나의 백성들을 이 땅으로 인도하게 하였고 저들이 나의 백성을 멸하려 한지라 여러해를 두고 우리가 고난을 겪었느니라. 
모사 10:19 이에 이제 나 지니프는 레이맨인들에 관하여 나의 백성에게 이 모든 것을 일러 주고 나서, 나는 그들에게 주를 신뢰하고, 그들의 힘을 다해 가서 싸우도록 격려하였나니, 그러므로 우리는 그들과 얼굴과 얼굴을 대하고 싸웠느니라.

 

 And now I, Zeniff, after having told all these things unto my people concerning the Lamanites, I did stimulate them to go to battle with their might, putting their trust in the Lord; therefore, we did contend with them, face to face. 10:19.나 지니프는 레이맨인들에 관한 이 모든 사실을 백성들에게 들려주고 나서 주를 의지하며 힘을 다해 나아가 싸우라고 백성들을 격려하였으매, 우리 모두가 적과 맞부딪쳐 싸워, 
모사 10:20 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 우리가 우리 땅에서 그들을 다시 몰아 내었으며, 그들을 크게 도륙하였으니, 그 수가 심히 많아 우리가 세지 아니하였느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that we did drive them again out of our land; and we slew them with a great slaughter, even so many that we did not number them. 10:20.적을 우리들의 땅 밖으로 쫓아 내었으며, 크게 적을 죽여 그 수를 헤아릴 수 조차 없었느니라. 
모사 10:21 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 우리는 다시 우리 자신의 땅으로 돌아왔으며, 나의 백성들은 다시 그들의 양 떼를 치며, 그들의 땅을 갈기 시작하였느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that we returned again to our own land, and my people again began to tend their flocks, and to till their ground. 10:21.우리는 다시 우리들의 땅으로 돌아와, 백성들은 다시 짐승을 길들이며 땅을 갈았고, 
모사 10:22 그리고 이제 내가 늙었으므로, 나의 아들 중 하나에게 나라를 넘겨 주었나니 그러므로 내가 더 이상 말하지 아니하노라. 주께서 나의 백성에게 복을 주실지로다. 아멘.

 

 And now I, being old, did confer the kingdom upon one of my sons; therefore, I say no more. And may the Lord bless my people. Amen. 10:22.나는 노쇠하여 나의 아들 중 한 아들에게 왕위를 물려주었으니 이제 더 말하지 아니하겠노라. 주님께서 나의 백성들을 축복해 주실지어다. 아멘.
