 The sons of Mosiah shall have eternal life—They go to preach to the Lamanites—Mosiah translates the Jaredite plates with the two seer stones. [About 92 B.C.] 모사이야가 아들들에게 레이맨인들에게 복음을 전파할 것을 허락함. 스물 넉 장의 판이 번역됨. 앨마의 아들 앨마가 기록을 보관하는 자가 됨. 
모사 28:1 이제 이렇게 되었나니 모사이야의 아들들이 이 모든 일을 행하고 나서, 적은 수를 데리고 그들의 부친인 왕에게로 돌아가서, 그에게 그들이 택한 바 이들과 함께 니파이 땅으로 올라가 그들이 들은 것을 전파하며, 그들의 형제 레이맨인들에게 하나님의 말씀을 나누어 주도록 허락해 줄 것을 구하니 -

 

 Now it came to pass that after the sons of Mosiah had done all these things, they took a small number with them and returned to their father, the king, and desired of him that he would grant unto them that they might, with these whom they had selected, go up to the land of Nephi that they might preach the things which they had heard, and that they might impart the word of God to their brethren, the Lamanites? 28:1.모사이야의 아들이 이같이 행하고 나서 소수의 무리를 이끌고 저들의 부친인 왕에게로 돌아가 저들이 택한 무리와 더불어 니파이 땅으로 내려가 들은 바를 가르쳐 전하며 저들의 형제인 레이맨인들에게도 하나님의 말씀을 나누게 할 것을 허락하기를 간청하였으니, 
모사 28:2 그리함으로써 혹 그들로 주 그들의 하나님에 대한 지식에 이르게 하며, 그들로 그들의 조상들의 죄악을 깨닫게 하고, 혹 니파이인들에 대한 그들의 증오를 치료하여, 그들 역시 주 그들의 하나님 안에서 기뻐하게 되고, 서로 친근하게 되어 주 그들의 하나님이 그들에게 주신 모든 땅에 더 이상 다툼이 없게 하려 함이라.

 

 That perhaps they might bring them to the knowledge of the Lord their God, and convince them of the iniquity of their fathers; and that perhaps they might cure them of their hatred towards the Nephites, that they might also be brought to rejoice in the Lord their God, that they might become friendly to one another, and that there should be no more contentions in all the land which the Lord their God had given them. 28:2.혹 저들에게 주 하나님을 알게하며, 저들의 조상들이 범한 죄를 깨닫게 하고 저들이 니파이인들에게 품은 증오를 씻게 하여 주 하나님의 뜻하시는 가운데 기쁨을 갖게 하고 서로 친밀하게 되어, 주 하나님께서 주신 땅에서 다시는 불화가 일지 않게 되기를 원하였음이라. 
모사 28:3 이제 그들은 모든 피조물에게 구원이 선포되기를 간절히 원했나니, 이는 어느 사람의 영혼이라도 멸망한다는 것을 그들이 견딜 수 없었음이라. 참으로 어느 영혼이라도 끝없는 고통을 감내해야 한다는 바로 그 생각조차 그들을 심히 떨게하며 전율하게 하였더라.

 

Now they were desirous that salvation should be declared to every creature, for they could not bear that any human soul should perish; yea, even the very thoughts that any soul should endure endless torment did cause them to quake and tremble.

 28:3.만인 중에 하나라도 멸망됨은 참아내지 못할 괴로운 일이요, 사람이 영원한 고통을 받게 되리라는 생각이 몸서리를 치게 하는지라, 저들은 만인에게 구원을 전파하기를 원하였으니, 
모사 28:4 이에 이같이 참으로 주의 영이 그들에게 역사하신 것은, 그들이 바로 죄인 중에 가장 비천한 자들이었음이라. 그러나 주께서 그의 무한하신 자비로 그들을 아끼시기를 합당하게 여기셨더라. 그러할지라도 그들이 자기 죄악으로 말미암아 영혼의 고뇌를 많이 겪었으니, 많은 고난을 겪으며 영원히 버림 받을 것을 두려워하였더라.

 

 And thus did the Spirit of the Lord work upon them, for they were the very vilest of sinners. And the Lord saw fit in his infinite mercy to spare them; nevertheless they suffered much anguish of soul because of their iniquities, suffering much and fearing that they should be cast off forever. 28:4.저들이 죄인 가운데에서도 극악한 자들이었던지라, 주의 영이 역사하시어 저들로 이같이 행하게 하시었고, 이미 주는 저들에게 무한하신 주의 자비를 베푸시기로 작정하셨으되, 저들은 저희가 저지른 죄악으로 인하여 마음으로 심한 괴로움을 느끼며 영원토록 버림을 받지 않을까 하여 몹시 두려워하였느니라. 
모사 28:5 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 니파이 땅으로 올라가고자 여러 날을 그 부친에게 간청하는지라.

 

 And it came to pass that they did plead with their father many days that they might go up to the land of Nephi. 28:5.저들이 여러 날을 두고 니파이 땅에 보내 줄 것을 저들의 부친에게 간청하는지라, 
모사 28:6 모사이야 왕이 가서 그 아들들을 말씀을 전파하도록 레이맨인들 가운데로 올라가게 해야 할지 주께 여쭈었더라.

 

 And king Mosiah went and inquired of the Lord if he should let his sons go up among the Lamanites to preach the word. 28:6.모사이야 왕이 주께 나아가 저의 아들들을 레이맨인 가운데로 보내어 주의 말씀을 전하여도 좋은지를 간구하였더니, 
모사 28:7 그리고 주께서 모사이야에게 이르시되, 그들로 올라가게 하라, 이는 많은 자들이 그들의 말을 믿을 것이요, 그들이 영생을 얻을 것이며, 내가 네 아들들을 레이맨인들의 손에서 건져 낼 것임이니라 하시는지라.

 

 And the Lord said unto Mosiah: Let them go up, for many shall believe on their words, and they shall have eternal life; and I will deliver thy sons out of the hands of the Lamanites. 28:7.주님께서 모사이야에게 말씀하시어, 저들로 떠나게 하라, 많은 무리가 저들의 말을 믿어 영생을 얻을 것이요, 내가 레이맨인들의 손에서 너의 아들들을 구원하리로다 하시는지라. 
모사 28:8 이에 이렇게 되었나니 모사이야가 그들로 하여금 가서 그들의 요청대로 행할 것을 허락하니라.

 

 And it came to pass that Mosiah granted that they might go and do according to their request. 28:8.모사이야는 아들들이 간청한 대로 떠나갈 것을 허락하였느니라. 
모사 28:9 이에 그들이 레이맨인들 가운데서 말씀을 전파하러 올라가려고 광야로 여행을 떠났으니, 이후에 내가 그들의 행한 바를 이야기하리로다.

 

 And they took their journey into the wilderness to go up to preach the word among the Lamanites; and I shall give an account of their proceedings hereafter. 28:9.이에 저들은 레이매인들에게 하나님의 말씀을 가르치러 광야로 길을 떠났으니, 이 후에 저들의 행적을 이야기 하리로다. 
모사 28:10 이제 모사이야 왕에게는 왕국을 넘겨 줄 자가 없었나니, 이는 그의 아들 중 아무도 왕국을 받으려 하는 자가 없었음이러라.

 

 Now king Mosiah had no one to confer the kingdom upon, for there was not any of his sons who would accept of the kingdom. 28:10.한편 모사이야 왕은 아들 중에 왕위를 이어 받으려 하는 자가 없어 아무에게도 왕위를 물려주지 못한지라, 
모사 28:11 그러므로 그가 림하이의 백성에 의해 발견되었고, 림하이의 손으로 그에게 전달된 금판에 있는 기록을 번역하여 이를 기록하게 한 후, 놋쇠판에 새겨진 기록과 또한 니파이의 판들과 하나님의 명령에 따라 그가 지키고 보존해 온 모든 것을 취하니라.

 

 Therefore he took the records which were engraven on the plates of brass, and also the plates of Nephi, and all the things which he had kept and preserved according to the commandments of God, after having translated and caused to be written the records which were on the plates of gold which had been found by the people of Limhi, which were delivered to him by the hand of Limhi; 28:11.림하이 백성들에게 발견되어 림하이가 친히 모사이야에게 전한 금판에 새겨진 것들을 번역하여 기록한 후에, 하나님의 명으로 기록되고 보존된 모든 것과 놋쇠판에 새겨진 기록과 또한 니파이의 판들을 정리하였으니, 
모사 28:12 또 이렇게 그가 행한 것은 그의 백성의 간절한 열망으로 인함이니, 이는 그들이 멸망당한 그 백성에 관하여 알기를 원하여 마지 아니하였음이라.

 

 And this he did because of the great anxiety of his people; for they were desirous beyond measure to know concerning those people who had been destroyed. 28:12.이는 그의 백성들이 이미 멸망해 버린 백성들에 관하여 몹시 알기를 원하며 또한 갈망하였음이라. 
모사 28:13 그리고 이제 그는 활 모양의 두 테에 박힌 돌 두 개를 사용하여 그 기록을 번역하였더라.

 

 And now he translated them by the means of those two stones which were fastened into the two rims of a bow. 28:13.또한 모사이야는 두 개의 활처럼 생긴 테에 박힌 보석 두개를 사용하여 번역하였으니, 
모사 28:14 이제 이러한 것은 언어를 해석할 목적으로, 태초로부터 예비되어 대대로 전해져 내려왔고,

 

 Now these things were prepared from the beginning, and were handed down from generation to generation, for the purpose of interpreting languages; 28:14.이 기구는 태초로부터 마련되어 언어를 번역하는데 쓰일 목적으로 대대로 전해져 내려온 것으로, 
모사 28:15 또 이러한 것이 주의 손으로 지켜지고 보존되어 온 것은, 그가 이 땅을 소유하게 될 모든 피조물에게 그의 백성의 죄악과 가증함을 드러내시려 하심이라.

 

 And they have been kept and preserved by the hand of the Lord, that he should discover to every creature who should possess the land the iniquities and abominations of his people; 28:15.땅에 거하게 될 모든 인간에게 주의 백성들이 범한 간악한 죄와 가증함을 알게 하시려 주가 친히 보존하셨으며, 
모사 28:16 그리고 누구든지 이러한 것을 가지고 있는 자를, 옛적 방식을 따라 선견자라 일컫느니라.

 

 And whosoever has these things is called seer, after the manner of old times. 28:16.이 기구를 소유하게 되는 자를 예로부터 선견자라 일컬어왔느니라. 
모사 28:17 이제 모사이야가 이 기록 번역하기를 마치고 나니, 보라, 그것은 멸망당한 그 백성의 기사를, 그들이 멸망당한 때로부터 거슬러 저 큰 탑을 쌓기까지, 곧 주께서 백성들의 언어를 혼잡하게 하시매 그들이 온 지면에 널리 흩어졌던 때까지 이르고, 또한 그때로부터 거슬러 아담의 창조 때까지, 말해 주고 있더라.

 

 Now after Mosiah had finished translating these records, behold, it gave an account of the people who were destroyed, from the time that they were destroyed back to the building of the great tower, at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people and they were scattered abroad upon the face of all the earth, yea, and even from that time back until the creation of Adam. 28:17.모사이야가 기록의 번역을 끝내고 나서 보니, 보라 이는 이미 멸망해 버린 민족의 기사요, 민족이 멸망한 때로부터 주님께서 인간들의 언어를 혼돈케 하사 사람들이 큰 탑을 지으려 할 때 인간을 지면에 널리 퍼지게 하신 때까지 소급된 기사요 그때로부터 아담의 창조의 때까지 이르는 기사라. 
모사 28:18 이제 이 기사가 모사이야의 백성들로 심히 슬퍼하게 하였나니, 참으로 그들이 슬픔으로 가득하게 되었으나, 그럼에도 불구하고 그 기사가 많은 것을 그들에게 알려 주었으매, 그로 인해 그들이 기뻐하였더라.

 

 Now this account did cause the people of Mosiah to mourn exceedingly, yea, they were filled with sorrow; nevertheless it gave them much knowledge, in the which they did rejoice. 28:18.이를 읽고 모사이야의 백성들이 크게 애통해 하며 슬픔에 잠기었으나 이 기사로 인하여 기뻐해야 할 많은 것들을 알게 되었느니라. 
모사 28:19 그리고 이 기사는 이후에 기록되리니, 이는 보라, 이 기사에 기록된 것을 만백성이 알아야 할 필요가 있음이니라.

 

 And this account shall be written hereafter; for behold, it is expedient that all people should know the things which are written in this account. 28:19.이제 이 기사는 이후에 기록하리니, 보라 이는 이 기사에 기록된 사실을 만인이 마땅히 알아야 하겠음이라. 
모사 28:20 그리고 이제 내가 너희에게 이른 것같이, 모사이야 왕이 이 일들을 행하고 난 후, 놋쇠판과 그가 간직해 왔던 모든 것을 취하고 그것을 앨마에게 넘겨주었으니, 이는 곧 앨마의 아들이라. 참으로 모든 기록과 또한 해석기니, 이를 그에게 넘겨주고, 그에게 이를 지키고 보전하며, 백성들에 관하여 기록하며, 이러한 것이 리하이가 예루살렘을 떠나던 때로부터 후대에 전해 내려왔던 것같이, 이를 한 세대에서 다른 세대로 후대에 전할 것을 명하였더라.

 

 And now, as I said unto you, that after king Mosiah had done these things, he took the plates of brass, and all the things which he had kept, and conferred them upon Alma, who was the son of Alma; yea, all the records, and also the interpreters, and conferred them upon him, and commanded him that he should keep and preserve them, and also keep a record of the people, handing them down from one generation to another, even as they had been handed down from the time that Lehi left Jerusalem. 28:20.이제 내가 너희에게 이른 바와 같이 모사이야왕이 이 모두를 정리하고 나서 놋쇠판과 또한 저가 보존해온 모든 것을 취하여 앨마의 아들 앨마에게 넘겨 주었으니, 온갖 기록과 해석기라. 그는 이러한 것들을 넘겨주며 이를 보존하고 관리하며, 백성들의 사적을 기록하여, 리하이가 예루살렘을 떠난 때로부터 대대로 전해진 바와 같이 계속하여 대대로 이를 전하도록 명하였느니라.
