| 소개 | 1836년 8월 6일 메사추세츠 주 살렘에서 선지자 조셉 스미스를 통하여 주신 계시(교회사 2:465~466). 이 당시 교회의 지도자들은 성역에 힘을 기울인 까닭에 많은 부채를 지게 되었다. 살렘에서 많은 액수의 돈을 구할 수 있으리라는 말을 듣고 선지자, 시드니 리그돈, 하이럼 스미스 및 올리버 카우드리가 복음도 전하면서 이 주장을 조사하기 위하여 오하이오 주 커틀랜드에서 그 곳으로 여행하였다. 형제들은 몇 가지 교회 업무를 처리하고 어느 정도 전도도 하였다. 나올 돈이 없음이 분명해지자 그들은 커틀랜드로 돌아 왔다. 배경을 이루는 몇 가지 주요한 요소가 이 계시의 말씀 중에 언급되어 있다. | Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Salem, Massachusetts, August 6, 1836. HC 2: 465—466. At this time the leaders of the Church were heavily in debt due to their labors in the ministry. Hearing that a large amount of money would be available to them in Salem, the Prophet, Sidney Rigdon, Hyrum Smith, and Oliver Cowdery traveled there from Kirtland, Ohio, to investigate this claim, along with preaching the gospel. The brethren transacted several items of church business and did some preaching. When it became apparent that no money was to be forthcoming, they returned to Kirtland. Several of the factors prominent in the background are reflected in the wording of this revelation. |

| 교성 111:2 | 나는 너희를 위하여, 시온의 유익을 위하여 많은 보화를 이 도시에 가지고 있고 또 때가 되면 시온의 유익을 위하여 너희를 도구로 삼아 내가 집합시킬 많은 백성을 이 도시에 가지고 있느니라. | I have much treasure in this city for you, for the benefit of Zion, and many people in this city, whom I will gather out in due time for the benefit of Zion, through your instrumentality. |

| 교성 111:4 | 또 때가 이르면 이렇게 되리니 내가 이 도시를 너희 손에 줄 터인즉 너희는 이 도시를 다스릴 권능을 가지게 될 것이라. 그리하여 그들은 너희의 은밀한 부분을 드러내지 못할 것이요 금과 은에 관련된 이 도시의 부는 너희 것이 되리라. | And it shall come to pass in due time that I will give this city into your hands, that you shall have power over it, insomuch that they shall not discover your secret parts; and its wealth pertaining to gold and silver shall be yours. |

| 교성 111:8 | 그리고 내가 원하는 바 너희가 주로 머물러야 할 곳은 너희에게로 흘러 올 나의 영의 평강과 권능으로써 너희에게 신호하여 주리라. | And the place where it is my will that you should tarry, for the main, shall be signalized unto you by the peace and power of my Spirit, that shall flow unto you. |

| 교성 111:11 | 그러므로 너희는 뱀같이 지혜로우라. 그러나 죄는 범하지 말라. 그리하면 너희가 받을 수 있는 대로 속히 내가 너희 유익을 위하여 만사를 명하리라. 아멘. | Therefore, be ye as wise as serpents and yet without sin; and I will order all things for your good, as fast as ye are able to receive them. Amen. |
