아브라함이 하갈과 결혼함

창세기 15장에서 우리는 아브라함의 의심과 걱정에 대해 읽었다. 창세기 16장에서는 사라가 어떻게 생각했을지 알게 된다. 주님은 사라에게 하갈을 아브라함에게 주어 아내로 삼게 명하셨으며, 아브라함에게는 하갈을 아내로 취하도록 명하셨다.(교성 132:34~35 참조) 사라에게 이 일을 하는 것이 결코 쉽지 않았지만 사라는 이에 순종하여 사라는 순종하고 성약을 이루기 바라는 마음을 보여 주었다. 이 짧은 이야기를 통해 하갈이 어떻게 느꼈을지에 대해 생각해본다.
창 16:1 아브람의 아내 사래는 출산하지 못하였고 그에게 한 여종이 있으니 애굽 사람이요 이름은 하갈이라 Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

 
창 16:2 사래가 아브람에게 이르되 여호와께서 내 출산을 허락하지 아니하셨으니 원하건대 내 여종에게 들어가라 내가 혹 그로 말미암아 자녀를 얻을까 하노라 하매 아브람이 사래의 말을 들으니라 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

 
창 16:3 아브람의 아내 사래가 그 여종 애굽 사람 하갈을 데려다가 그 남편 아브람에게 첩으로 준 때는 아브람이 가나안 땅에 거주한 지 십 년 후였더라 And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

 
창 16:4 아브람이 하갈과 동침하였더니 하갈이 임신하매 그가 자기의 임신함을 알고 그의 여주인을 멸시한지라 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

 창세기 16:1~3

그 당시의 풍속에 의하면 사라가 자기 여종인 하갈을 남편에게 주어 아내가 되게 한 것은 당연하며 합리적인 행위였다.(교성132:1~2, 29~30, 34~35)
창 16:5 사래가 아브람에게 이르되 내가 받는 모욕은 당신이 받아야 옳도다 내가 나의 여종을 당신의 품에 두었거늘 그가 자기의 임신함을 알고 나를 멸시하니 당신과 나 사이에 여호와께서 판단하시기를 원하노라 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

 
창 16:6 아브람이 사래에게 이르되 당신의 여종은 당신의 수중에 있으니 당신의 눈에 좋을 대로 그에게 행하라 하매 사래가 하갈을 학대하였더니 하갈이 사래 앞에서 도망하였더라 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

 
창 16:7 여호와의 사자가 광야의 샘물 곁 곧 술 길 샘 곁에서 그를 만나 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

 
창 16:8 이르되 사래의 여종 하갈아 네가 어디서 왔으며 어디로 가느냐 그가 이르되 나는 내 여주인 사래를 피하여 도망하나이다 And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

 
창 16:9 여호와의 사자가 그에게 이르되 네 여주인에게로 돌아가서 그 수하에 복종하라 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

 
창 16:10 여호와의 사자가 또 그에게 이르되 내가 네 씨를 크게 번성하여 그 수가 많아 셀 수 없게 하리라 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

 창세기 16:10

하갈에게 전해 준 천사의 메시지는 아브라함에게 주어진 약속이 이삭의 후손 이외의 사람들에게도 적용된다는 것을 나타낸다.
창 16:11 여호와의 사자가 또 그에게 이르되 네가 임신하였은즉 아들을 낳으리니 그 이름을 이스마엘이라 하라 이는 여호와께서 네 고통을 들으셨음이니라 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

 
창 16:12 그가 사람 중에 들나귀 같이 되리니 그의 손이 모든 사람을 치겠고 모든 사람의 손이 그를 칠지며 그가 모든 형제와 대항해서 살리라 하니라 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

 창세기 16:11~12

히브리어의 이스마엘이라는 말은 문자 그대로“여호와께서 … 들으셨음이니라”(11절)라는 의미이다. 12절에서 그는“들나귀”라고 불렸는데 자유를 사랑하는 사람이라는 뜻이다. 이 비유는 이스마엘의 후손이 유목민 생활을 하리라는 것을 예언한 것일 수 있다.(12절 참조)
창 16:13 하갈이 자기에게 이르신 여호와의 이름을 나를 살피시는 하나님이라 하였으니 이는 내가 어떻게 여기서 나를 살피시는 하나님을 뵈었는고 함이라 And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

 
창 16:14 이러므로 그 샘을 브엘라해로이라 불렀으며 그것은 가데스와 베렛 사이에 있더라 Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

 
창 16:15 하갈이 아브람의 아들을 낳으매 아브람이 하갈이 낳은 그 아들을 이름하여 이스마엘이라 하였더라 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.

 
창 16:16 하갈이 아브람에게 이스마엘을 낳았을 때에 아브람이 팔십육 세였더라 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
