소개 에돔 즉, 에서의 계보. The generations of Esau, who is Edom, are set forth.

요셉과 채색옷

창세기 26장에는 에서의 후손들의 이름이 많이 열거되어 있다. (1, 43절에서 에서는“에돔”으로도 불려지고 있다.) 성경 역사에서 보면 에서의 후손들은 야곱(이스라엘)의 이웃이었고“에돔인”이라고 불리었다.

장자의 명분을 가진 아들은 아버지가 죽으면 가장이 되었다. 그는 또한 가족들을 돌보는 책임을 맡게 된다. 그는 다른 자녀들에 비해 땅과 소유물을 두 배로 상속 받는다. 하나님과 아브라함과 맺은 성약으로 인해 장자의 명분을 가진 아들은 가족의 영적인 면에도 책임을 진다.

대개 장남이 장자의 명분을 받았다. 그러나 르우벤은 이 권리를 받기에 합당하지 않게 생활했다.(창세기 35: 22, 역대 상 5:1 참조) 야곱의 두 번째 부인인 라헬의 장남인 요셉이 이 장자 명분을 받았다. 야곱이 요셉에게 준 “채색옷“(창세기 37:3 참조)은 요셉이 장자 명분을 받았다는 사실을 나타낸다고 볼 수 있다.(William Wilson, Old Testament Word Studies [1978], s.v. “colour”82 참조)

비록 요셉이 라헬의 장남이기는 하지만 그는 열한 번째 아들이었다. 그가 합당했을지라도 우리는 다른 열 명의 형제들이 장자 명분의 축복을 받는 그에 대해 어떤 감정을 가졌을지 상상할 수 있다. 창세기 37장을 읽으면서 여러분이 당시의 요셉이었다면 어떤 느낌을 가졌겠는지 생각해 본다.
창 36:1 에서 곧 에돔의 족보는 이러하니라 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.

 
창 36:2 에서가 가나안 여인 중 헷 족속 엘론의 딸 아다와 히위 족속 시브온의 딸인 아나의 딸 오홀리바마를 자기 아내로 맞이하고 Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;

 
창 36:3 또 이스마엘의 딸 느바욧의 누이 바스맛을 맞이하였더니 And Bashemath Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.

 
창 36:4 아다는 엘리바스를 에서에게 낳았고 바스맛은 르우엘을 낳았고 And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel;

 
창 36:5 오홀리바마는 여우스와 얄람과 고라를 낳았으니 이들은 에서의 아들들이요 가나안 땅에서 그에게 태어난 자들이더라 And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

 
창 36:6 에서가 자기 아내들과 자기 자녀들과 자기 집의 모든 사람과 자기의 가축과 자기의 모든 짐승과 자기가 가나안 땅에서 모은 모든 재물을 이끌고 그의 동생 야곱을 떠나 다른 곳으로 갔으니 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.

 
창 36:7 두 사람의 소유가 풍부하여 함께 거주할 수 없음이러라 그들이 거주하는 땅이 그들의 가축으로 말미암아 그들을 용납할 수 없었더라 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.

 
창 36:8 이에 에서 곧 에돔이 세일 산에 거주하니라 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

창 36:10 그 자손의 이름은 이러하니라 에서의 아내 아다의 아들은 엘리바스요 에서의 아내 바스맛의 아들은 르우엘이며 These are the names of Esau’s sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau.

 
창 36:11 엘리바스의 아들들은 데만과 오말과 스보와 가담과 그나스요 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.

 
창 36:12 에서의 아들 엘리바스의 첩 딤나는 아말렉을 엘리바스에게 낳았으니 이들은 에서의 아내 아다의 자손이며 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau’s son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau’s wife.

 
창 36:13 르우엘의 아들들은 나핫과 세라와 삼마와 미사니 이들은 에서의 아내 바스맛의 자손이며 And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau’s wife.

 
창 36:14 시브온의 손녀 아나의 딸 에서의 아내 오홀리바마의 아들들은 이러하니 그가 여우스와 얄람과 고라를 에서에게 낳았더라 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.

창 36:16 고라 족장, 가담 족장, 아말렉 족장이니 이들은 에돔 땅에 있는 엘리바스의 족장들이요 이들은 아다의 자손이며 Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah.

창 36:20 그 땅의 주민 호리 족속 세일의 자손은 로단과 소발과 시브온과 아나와 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,

 
창 36:21 디손과 에셀과 디산이니 이들은 에돔 땅에 있는 세일의 자손 중 호리 족속의 족장들이요 And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.

 
창 36:22 로단의 자녀는 호리와 헤맘과 로단의 누이 딤나요 And the children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna.

 
창 36:23 소발의 자녀는 알완과 마나핫과 에발과 스보와 오남이요 And the children of Shobal were these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

 
창 36:24 시브온의 자녀는 아야와 아나며 이 아나는 그 아버지 시브온의 나귀를 칠 때에 광야에서 온천을 발견하였고 And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.

 
창 36:25 아나의 자녀는 디손과 오홀리바마니 오홀리바마는 아나의 딸이며 And the children of Anah were these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.

 
창 36:26 디손의 자녀는 헴단과 에스반과 이드란과 그란이요 And these are the children of Dishon; Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.

 
창 36:27 에셀의 자녀는 빌한과 사아완과 아간이요 The children of Ezer are these; Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan.

 
창 36:28 디산의 자녀는 우스와 아란이니 The children of Dishan are these; Uz, and Aran.

 
창 36:29 호리 족속의 족장들은 곧 로단 족장, 소발 족장, 시브온 족장, 아나 족장, These are the dukes that came of the Horites; duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah,

창 36:32 브올의 아들 벨라가 에돔의 왕이 되었으니 그 도성의 이름은 딘하바며 And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

 
창 36:33 벨라가 죽고 보스라 사람 세라의 아들 요밥이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었고 And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.

 
창 36:34 요밥이 죽고 데만 족속의 땅의 후삼이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었고 And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead.

 
창 36:35 후삼이 죽고 브닷의 아들 곧 모압 들에서 미디안 족속을 친 하닷이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었으니 그 도성 이름은 아윗이며 And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith.

 
창 36:36 하닷이 죽고 마스레가의 삼라가 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었고 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.

 
창 36:37 삼라가 죽고 유브라데 강변 르호봇의 사울이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었고 And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead.

 
창 36:38 사울이 죽고 악볼의 아들 바알하난이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었고 And Saul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead.

 
창 36:39 악볼의 아들 바알하난이 죽고 하달이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었으니 그 도성 이름은 바우며 그의 아내의 이름은 므헤다벨이니 마드렛의 딸이요 메사합의 손녀더라 And Baal-hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.

 
창 36:40 에서에게서 나온 족장들의 이름은 그 종족과 거처와 이름을 따라 나누면 이러하니 딤나 족장, 알와 족장, 여뎃 족장, And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,
