앨 8:1 그리고 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앨마가 기록할 수 없는 많은 것을 기드온 백성에게 가르치고, 이전에 그가 제이라헤믈라 땅에서 행한 대로 교회의 질서를 세운 후에, 기드온 땅에서 돌아왔나니, 참으로 그가 그 행한 수고를 떠나 쉬고자 제이라헤믈라에 있는 자기의 집으로 돌아갔느니라. AND now it came to pass that Alma returned from the land of Gideon, after having taught the people of Gideon many things which cannot be written, having established the order of the church, according as he had before done in the land of Zarahemla, yea, he returned to his own house at Zarahemla to rest himself from the labors which he had performed.
앨 8:2 그리고 이같이 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제구년이 끝났느니라. And thus ended the ninth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi.
앨 8:3 그리고 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제십년 초에 이렇게 되었나니, 앨마가 거기서 떠나 여행하여 광야의 변경 서편, 시돈 강 서편의 밀렉 땅으로 넘어 들어가더라. And it came to pass in the commencement of the tenth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi, that Alma departed from thence and took his journey over into the land of Melek, on the west of the river Sidon, on the west by the borders of the wilderness.
앨 8:4 그리고 그가 부름을 받은 하나님의 거룩한 반차를 좇아 밀렉 땅에서 백성들을 가르치기 시작하되, 그가 밀렉 온 땅에서 두루 백성을 가르치기 시작하였더라. And he began to teach the people in the land of Melek according to the holy order of God, by which he had been called; and he began to teach the people throughout all the land of Melek.
앨 8:5 이에 이렇게 되었나니 광야 편에 연한 그 땅의 변경 모든 곳에서 백성들이 그에게 나아와, 그 온 땅 각처에서 그들이 침례를 받으니라. And it came to pass that the people came to him throughout all the borders of the land which was by the wilderness side. And they were baptized throughout all the land;
앨 8:6 그리하여 그가 밀렉에서 자기의 일을 마치고 나서 거기서 떠나, 밀렉 땅 북편으로 사흘 길을 여행하더니, 그가 앰몬아이하라 하는 성에 이르렀더라.

So that when he had finished his work at Melek he departed thence, and traveled three days’ journey on the north of the land of Melek; and he came to a city which was called Ammonihah.
앨 8:7 이제 니파이인들에게는 그들의 땅과, 그들의 성읍과, 그들의 마을과, 참으로 그들의 모든 작은 동리까지, 처음 그곳을 소유한 이의 이름을 따라 칭하는 것이 그들의 풍습이었더니, 앰몬아이하 땅 역시 그러하였더라. Now it was the custom of the people of Nephi to call their lands, and their cities, and their villages, yea, even all their small villages, after the name of him who first possessed them; and thus it was with the land of Ammonihah.
앨 8:8 이에 이렇게 되었나니 앨마가 앰몬아이하 성에 이르렀을 때 그들에게 하나님의 말씀을 전파하기 시작하였더라. And it came to pass that when Alma had come to the city of Ammonihah he began to preach the word of God unto them.
앨 8:9 이제 사탄이 앰몬아이하 성 백성의 마음을 크게 사로잡은지라, 그러므로 그들이 앨마의 말에 귀 기울이려 하지 아니하더라. Now Satan had gotten great hold upon the hearts of the people of the city of Ammonihah; therefore they would not hearken unto the words of Alma.
앨 8:10 그럼에도 불구하고 앨마가 영으로 많이 수고하여 간절한 기도로 하나님과 씨름하며 그의 영을 성 안에 있는 백성들 위에 부어 주실 것과, 또한 자신이 그들에게 회개에 이르는 침례를 베풀게 하여 주실 것을 구하였더라. Nevertheless Alma labored much in the spirit, wrestling with God in mighty prayer, that he would pour out his Spirit upon the people who were in the city; that he would also grant that he might baptize them unto repentance.
앨 8:11 그럼에도 그들이 그 마음을 완악하게 하여, 그에게 이르되, 보라, 우리는 네가 앨마인 줄 알며, 또 네가 너희의 전통을 좇아, 이 땅 여러 곳에 세운 교회를 다스리는 대제사인 줄도 알거니와, 우리는 네 교회에 속하지도 아니하였으며, 그러한 어리석은 전통을 믿지도 아니하느니라. Nevertheless, they hardened their hearts, saying unto him: Behold, we know that thou art Alma; and we know that thou art high priest over the church which thou hast established in many parts of the land, according to your tradition; and we are not of thy church, and we do not believe in such foolish traditions.
앨 8:12 또 이제 우리가 알거니와 우리는 네 교회에 속하지 아니한고로 네가 우리를 다스릴 권능이 없다는 것을 알며, 또 너는 판사직을 니파이하에게 넘겨주었으니, 그러므로 우리를 다스리는 대판사도 아니니라. And now we know that because we are not of thy church we know that thou hast no power over us; and thou hast delivered up the judgment-seat unto Nephihah; therefore thou art not the chief judge over us.
앨 8:13 이제 백성들이 이 말을 하고, 그의 모든 말을 대항하고, 그를 욕하고, 그에게 침 뱉고, 그로 그들의 성에서 쫓겨나게 하매, 그가 거기서 떠나 아론이라 하는 성을 향하여 여행하였더라. Now when the people had said this, and withstood all his words, and reviled him, and spit upon him, and caused that he should be cast out of their city, he departed thence and took his journey towards the city which was called Aaron.
앨 8:14 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그가 앰몬아이하 성에 있는 백성들의 사악함으로 인하여, 슬픔에 눌려, 많은 환난과 영혼의 고뇌를 헤치며 그리로 여행하고 있을 때, 이렇게 되었나니 앨마가 이같이 슬픔에 눌려 있을때, 보라 주의 한 천사가 그에게 나타나 이르되, And it came to pass that while he was journeying thither, being weighed down with sorrow, wading through much tribulation and anguish of soul, because of the wickedness of the people who were in the city of Ammonihah, it came to pass while Alma was thus weighed down with sorrow, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto him, saying:
앨 8:15 앨마야, 네가 복이 있도다. 그러므로 네 머리를 들고 기뻐하라. 이는 네가 기뻐할 일이 큼이니, 이는 네가 하나님으로부터 너의 첫 전갈을 받은 때로부터 그의 계명을 충실히 지켰음이니라. 보라, 내가 그 전갈을 네게 전한 자니라. Blessed art thou, Alma; therefore, lift up thy head and rejoice, for thou hast great cause to rejoice; for thou hast been faithful in keeping the commandments of God from the time which thou receivedst thy first message from him. Behold, I am he that delivered it unto you.
앨 8:16 또 보라, 나는 네가 앰몬아이하 성으로 돌아가 그 성 백성에게 다시 전파할 것을 네게 명하도록 보내심을 받았나니, 참으로 그들에게 전파하라. 참으로 그들에게 이르기를, 회개하지 아니하면 주 하나님께서 그들을 멸하실 것이라 하라. And behold, I am sent to command thee that thou return to the city of Ammonihah, and preach again unto the people of the city; yea, preach unto them. Yea, say unto them, except they repent the Lord God will destroy them.
앨 8:17 이는 보라, 그들은 실로 이 시간에 네 백성의 자유를 멸하고자 궁리하고 있음이니 (이는 이같이 주께서 말씀하심이라) 이는 그가 자기 백성에게 주신 규례와, 법도와, 계명에 반하는 일이니라 하더라. For behold, they do study at this time that they may destroy the liberty of thy people, (for thus saith the Lord) which is contrary to the statutes, and judgments, and commandments which he has given unto his people.
앨 8:18 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앨마가 주의 천사로부터 그의 전갈을 받은 후 앰몬아이하 땅으로 속히 돌아가서, 다른 길로, 곧 앰몬아이하 성 남쪽에 있는 길로 성에 들어가니라. Now it came to pass that after Alma had received his message from the angel of the Lord he returned speedily to the land of Ammonihah. And he entered the city by another way, yea, by the way which is on the south of the city of Ammonihah.
앨 8:19 이에 그가 성에 들어갈 새 그가 주린지라, 어떤 사람에게 이르되, 당신은 하나님의 낮은 종에게 먹을 것을 좀 주시겠느냐 하매, And as he entered the city he was an hungered, and he said to a man: Will ye give to an humble servant of God something to eat?
앨 8:20 그러자 그 사람이 그에게 이르되, 나는 니파이인이요, 나는 당신이 하나님의 거룩한 선지자인 줄 아노니, 이는 당신이, 천사가 시현 속에서 말하기를 네가 영접하라 한 그 사람임이니이다. 그러므로 나와 함께 가시면 내 음식을 당신께 나누어 드리오리니, 나는 당신이 나와 내 집에 복이 될 줄 아나이다 하더라. And the man said unto him: I am a Nephite, and I know that thou art a holy prophet of God, for thou art the man whom an angel said in a vision: Thou shalt receive. Therefore, go with me into my house and I will impart unto thee of my food; and I know that thou wilt be a blessing unto me and my house.
앨 8:21 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그 사람이 그를 자기 집에 영접해 들이니, 그 사람은 앰율레크라 하며, 이에 저가 떡과 고기를 내어와서 앨마 앞에 놓더라. And it came to pass that the man received him into his house; and the man was called Amulek; and he brought forth bread and meat and set before Alma.
앨 8:22 이에 이렇게 되었나니 앨마가 떡을 먹고 배부르게 되어, 앰율레크와 그의 집을 축복하고, 하나님께 감사드리니라. And it came to pass that Alma ate bread and was filled; and he blessed Amulek and his house, and he gave thanks unto God.
앨 8:23 또 앨마가 먹고 배부른 후 앰율레크에게 이르되, 나는 앨마요, 전국에 걸쳐 하나님의 교회를 관할하는 대제사니라. And after he had eaten and was filled he said unto Amulek: I am Alma, and am the high priest over the church of God throughout the land.
앨 8:24 또 보라, 내가 계시와 예언의 영을 좇아, 이 온 백성 중에 하나님의 말씀을 전파하도록 부르심을 받아 이 땅에 있었으나, 그들이 나를 영접하려 아니하고, 도리어 나를 쫓아내었으므로 내가 바야흐로 영원히 이 땅을 등지려 하였었느니라. And behold, I have been called to preach the word of God among all this people, according to the spirit of revelation and prophecy; and I was in this land and they would not receive me, but they cast me out and I was about to set my back towards this land forever.
앨 8:25 그러나 보라, 내가 다시 돌이켜 이 백성에게 예언할 것과 또한 그들의 죄악에 대하여 그들을 쳐서 증거하라는 명을 받았느니라. But behold, I have been commanded that I should turn again and prophesy unto this people, yea, and to testify against them concerning their iniquities.
앨 8:26 이제 앰율레크여, 그대가 나를 먹이며 나를 들였으므로 그대에게 복이 있나니, 이는 내가 여러 날을 금식하였으므로 주렸음이니라 하니라. And now, Amulek, because thou hast fed me and taken me in, thou art blessed; for I was an hungered, for I had fasted many days.
앨 8:27 이에 앨마가 백성들에게 가르침을 전하기 시작하기에 앞서 앰율레크와 더불어 여러 날을 머무니라. And Alma tarried many days with Amulek before he began to preach unto the people.
앨 8:28 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 백성들은 그 죄악이 점점 더 중하게 되었더라. And it came to pass that the people did wax more gross in their iniquities.
앨 8:29 이에 말씀이 앨마에게 임하여 이르시되, 가라, 또 내 종 앰율레크에게도 이르기를, 나아가 이 백성에게 예언하라 하시고 이르되 - 너희는 회개하라, 이는 주께서 이같이 말씀하심이라. 너희가 회개하지 아니하면 내가 내 분노 중에 이 백성을 징벌하리니, 내가 내 맹렬한 노여움을 돌이키지 아니하리라 하셨다 하라. And the word came to Alma, saying: Go; and also say unto my servant Amulek, go forth and prophesy unto this people, saying—Repent ye, for thus saith the Lord, except ye repent I will visit this people in mine anger; yea, and I will not turn my fierce anger away.
앨 8:30 이에 앨마와, 또한 앰율레크가 하나님의 말씀을 선포하러 백성 중에 나아가매, 그들이 성신으로 충만하게 되었더라. And Alma went forth, and also Amulek, among the people, to declare the words of God unto them; and they were filled with the Holy Ghost.
앨 8:31 또 그들에게 능력을 주신지라, 그들을 땅 밑 옥에 가둘 수 없었으며, 아무도 능히 그들을 죽일 수 없었으나, 그럼에도 그들이 줄에 결박되어 감옥에 던져지기까지 그들의 능력을 행사하지 아니하였으니, 이제 이렇게 된 것은 주께서 그들로 말미암아 그의 권능을 보이시고자 하심이었더라. And they had power given unto them, insomuch that they could not be confined in dungeons; neither was it possible that any man could slay them; nevertheless they did not exercise their power until they were bound in bands and cast into prison. Now, this was done that the Lord might show forth his power in them.
앨 8:32 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 나아가 주께서 주신 영과 권능을 좇아, 백성들에게 가르침을 전파하며 예언하기 시작하니라. And it came to pass that they went forth and began to preach and to prophesy unto the people, according to the spirit and power which the Lord had given them.
