앨 29:1 오 내가 천사라면, 그리하여 내 마음의 소원을 이루어, 앞으로 나아가 하나님의 나팔로, 땅을 흔들 음성으로 말하여, 모든 백성에게 회개를 외칠 수 있다면,

O THAT I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with a voice to shake the earth, and cry repentance unto every people!
앨 29:2 참으로 내가 우레와 같은 음성으로, 각 영혼에게 회개와 구속의 계획을 선포하여, 그들로 회개하고 하나님께로 나아오게 하여, 온 지면 위에 슬픔이 더 이상 있지 않게 하였으면 좋겠노라. Yea, I would declare unto every soul, as with the voice of thunder, repentance and the plan of redemption, that they should repent and come unto our God, that there might not be more sorrow upon all the face of the earth.
앨 29:3 그러나 보라, 나는 사람이요, 내 소원 중에 죄를 범하나니, 이는 주께서 나에게 배정해 주신 것들로 내가 마땅히 만족해야만 함이라. But behold, I am a man, and do sin in my wish; for I ought to be content with the things which the Lord hath allotted unto me.
앨 29:4 내가 내 소망 중에 공의로우신 하나님의 확고한 법령을 훼손하지 말아야 하리니, 이는 그가 사람들에게 사망에 이르는 것이든 생명에 이르는 것이든, 그들의 원대로 주심을 내가 앎이라. 참으로 그는 사람들에게 배정하시되, 그들의 뜻이 구원에 이르는 것이든지 아니면 멸망에 이르는 것이든지, 그들의 뜻에 따라, 참으로 변경하지 못할 법령을 그들에게 반포하심을 내가 아노라.

I ought not to harrow up in my desires, the firm decree of a just God, for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life; yea, I know that he allotteth unto men, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable, according to their wills, whether they be unto salvation or unto destruction.
앨 29:5 또한 선과 악이 모든 사람 앞에 이르렀은즉, 선악을 분별하지 못하는 자는 책망할 것이 없거니와, 선과 악을 아는 자에게는, 그 원하는 것이 선이든지 악이든지, 생명이든지 죽음이든지, 기쁨이든지 양심의 가책이든지, 그의 원대로 주어지는 줄을 내가 아노라. Yea, and I know that good and evil have come before all men; he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless; but he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires, whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.
앨 29:6 이제 이러한 일들을 내가 알고 있거늘, 어찌 내가 부름 받은 일 수행하기보다 더 원하리요? Now, seeing that I know these things, why should I desire more than to perform the work to which I have been called?
앨 29:7 어찌 내가 천사이기를, 그리하여 땅의 모든 끝에 말할 수 있기를 원하리요? Why should I desire that I were an angel, that I could speak unto all the ends of the earth?
앨 29:8 이는 보라 주께서는 그들 자신의 나라와 방언을 가진 모든 민족에게 그의 말씀을, 참으로 그들이 갖는 것이 합당하다고 그가 여기시는 모든 것을, 지혜로써 가르칠 것을 허락하시나니, 그러므로 우리는 주께서 의롭고 참된 바를 좇아, 지혜로써 권고하심을 아느니라. For behold, the Lord doth grant unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, yea, in wisdom, all that he seeth fit that they should have; therefore we see that the Lord doth counsel in wisdom, according to that which is just and true.
앨 29:9 주께서 내게 명하신 바를 내가 아노니, 나는 그것을 영광으로 여기노라. 나는 스스로 영광스럽게 여기지 아니하고, 주께서 내게 명하신 바를 영광으로 여기노라. 또한 이것이 내 영광이니, 곧 혹 하나님의 손에 든 도구가 되어 얼마간의 영혼을 회개로 인도하는 것이라. 또 이는 내 기쁨이니라.

I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.
앨 29:10 또 보라, 많은 내 형제들이 진심으로 뉘우쳐, 주 그들의 하나님께로 옴을 내가 볼 때, 그때 내 영혼이 기쁨으로 충만하도다. 그때 내가 주께서 나를 위하여 행하신 일을 기억하노니, 곧 그가 내 기도를 들으신 것이며, 참으로 그때 내가 나를 향하여 펴신 그의 자비하신 팔을 기억하노라. And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea, even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.
앨 29:11 참으로 이뿐 아니라 내가 또한 내 조상들이 사로잡혔던 것을 기억하노니, 이는 주께서 그들을 속박에서 건져 내시고, 이로써 그의 교회를 세우신 것을 내가 정녕 알고 있음이라. 참으로 주 하나님, 곧 아브라함의 하나님, 이삭의 하나님, 그리고 야곱의 하나님께서 그들을 속박에서 건져 내셨느니라. Yea, and I also remember the captivity of my fathers; for I surely do know that the Lord did deliver them out of bondage, and by this did establish his church; yea, the Lord God, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, did deliver them out of bondage.
앨 29:12 참으로 내가 내 조상들의 포로되었던 것을 항상 기억하였노니, 그들을 애굽인의 손에서 건져 내신 그 동일한 하나님께서 그들을 속박에서 건져 내셨느니라. Yea, I have always remembered the captivity of my fathers; and that same God who delivered them out of the hands of the Egyptians did deliver them out of bondage.
앨 29:13 참으로 또한 그 동일한 하나님께서 그들 가운데 자기 교회를 세우셨고, 그 동일한 하나님께서 거룩한 부르심으로 나를 부르사, 이 백성에게 말씀을 전파하게 하시고, 나에게 많은 성공을 주셨으니 이로써, 내 기쁨이 충만하도다. Yea, and that same God did establish his church among them; yea, and that same God hath called me by a holy calling, to preach the word unto this people, and hath given me much success, in the which my joy is full.
앨 29:14 그러나 나는 나 자신의 성공만으로 기뻐하지 아니하노니, 내 기쁨은 니파이 땅에 올라가 있었던 내 형제들의 성공으로 인하여 더욱 충만하도다. But I do not joy in my own success alone, but my joy is more full because of the success of my brethren, who have been up to the land of Nephi.
앨 29:15 보라, 저들이 크게 수고하고, 많은 열매를 맺었으니, 저들의 상급이 얼마나 크겠느냐! Behold, they have labored exceedingly, and have brought forth much fruit; and how great shall be their reward!
앨 29:16 이제 내가 이들 내 형제들의 성공을 생각할 때 내 영혼이 이끌려 가서, 마치 내 몸에서 나뉠 듯 하나니, 그처럼 나의 기쁨이 크도다. Now, when I think of the success of these my brethren my soul is carried away, even to the separation of it from the body, as it were, so great is my joy.
앨 29:17 이에 이제 하나님께서 이들 내 형제들에게 허락하사, 저들로 하나님의 나라에 앉게 하시며, 또 저들의 수고의 결실인 그들 모두에게도 그리하사 그들로 다시는 나가지 아니하고, 영원토록 그를 찬양하게 하시기를 원하노니, 하나님께서 허락하사 내 말대로, 곧 내가 말한 것같이 이루어지게 하시기를 원하노라. 아멘. And now may God grant unto these, my brethren, that they may sit down in the kingdom of God; yea, and also all those who are the fruit of their labors that they may go no more out, but that they may praise him forever. And may God grant that it may be done according to my words, even as I have spoken. Amen.
