| 앨 43:1 | 이에 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앨마의 아들들이 말씀을 전파하기 위하여 백성 가운데로 나아갔고, 앨마 자신도 쉴 수 없어 역시 나아갔더라. | AND now it came to pass that the sons of Alma did go forth among the people, to declare the word unto them. And Alma, also, himself, could not rest, and he also went forth. |
| 앨 43:2 | 이제 우리는 예언과 계시의 영을 좇아 말씀과 진리를 전파한 것 외에, 그들의 전도에 관하여는 더 이상 말하지 아니하리니, 그들은 그들이 부르심을 입은 하나님의 거룩한 반차를 좇아 가르쳤더라. | Now we shall say no more concerning their preaching, except that they preached the word, and the truth, according to the spirit of prophecy and revelation; and they preached after the holy order of God by which they were called. |

| 앨 43:6 | 그리고 이제 아맬레카이인들은 본시 자체적으로 레이맨인들보다 더욱 간악하고 잔인한 성향을 지니고 있었던지라. 그러므로 제래헴나가 레이맨인들 위에 총대장들을 임명하매 그들이 다 아맬레카이인과 조램인들이었더라. | And now, as the Amalekites were of a more wicked and murderous disposition than the Lamanites were, in and of themselves, therefore, Zerahemnah appointed chief captains over the Lamanites, and they were all Amalekites and Zoramites. |
| 앨 43:7 | 이제 이렇게 그가 한 것은 니파이인들에 대한 저들의 증오심을 유지함으로써, 저들을 복종시켜 자기의 의도를 이루고자 함이었더라. | Now this he did that he might preserve their hatred towards the Nephites, that he might bring them into subjection to the accomplishment of his designs. |

| 앨 43:10 | 이는 만일 그들이 레이맨인들의 수중에 들게 되면, 무릇 영과 진리로 하나님, 곧 참되시고 살아 계신 하나님을 예배하는 자들을 레이맨인들이 다 멸할 줄 그들이 알았음이라. | For they knew that if they should fall into the hands of the Lamanites, that whosoever should worship God in spirit and in truth, the true and the living God, the Lamanites would destroy. |
| 앨 43:11 | 참으로 그뿐 아니라 그들은 레이맨인들이 그들의 형제, 곧 암몬 백성이라 하는 앤타이-니파이-리하이 백성에 대하여 가진 극심한 증오를 알고 있었나니 - 그러나 이들은 무기를 들려 하지 않았더라, 참으로 이들은 성약을 맺었었고 이를 깨뜨리고자 하지 아니하였더라 - 그러므로 만일 그들이 레이맨인들의 손에 빠지면 멸망될 것이라. | Yea, and they also knew the extreme hatred of the Lamanites towards their brethren, who were the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi, who were called the people of Ammon—and they would not take up arms, yea, they had entered into a covenant and they would not break it—therefore, if they should fall into the hands of the Lamanites they would be destroyed. |

| 앨 43:14 | 이제 그 후손들은 수효가 거의 니파이인들과 같았나니, 이리하여 니파이인들은 어찌할 수 없이 자기 형제들과 피 흘리기까지 싸우지 않으면 안 되게 되었더라. | Now those descendants were as numerous, nearly, as were the Nephites; and thus the Nephites were obliged to contend with their brethren, even unto bloodshed. |
| 앨 43:15 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들의 군대가 앤티오눔 땅에 함께 모이매, 보라, 니파이인들의 군대는 여어숀 땅에서 그들을 맞을 준비를 갖추었더라. | And it came to pass as the armies of the Lamanites had gathered together in the land of Antionum, behold, the armies of the Nephites were prepared to meet them in the land of Jershon. |
| 앨 43:16 | 이제 니파이인들의 지휘관, 곧 니파이인들 위에 총대장으로 임명된 사람은 - 이제 총대장이 니파이인들의 모든 군대를 지휘하였나니 - 그 이름이 모로나이였더라. | Now, the leader of the Nephites, or the man who had been appointed to be the chief captain over the Nephites—now the chief captain took the command of all the armies of the Nephites—and his name was Moroni; |
| 앨 43:17 | 또 모로나이는 모든 지휘권과 그들의 전쟁 통수권을 맡았나니, 그가 니파이인들의 군대 위에 총대장으로 임명되었을 때 나이 불과 이십오 세이었더라. | And Moroni took all the command, and the government of their wars. And he was only twenty and five years old when he was appointed chief captain over the armies of the Nephites. |
| 앨 43:18 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 여어숀의 경계에서 레이맨인들을 만나매, 그의 백성들은 칼과 신월도와 온갖 전쟁 무기로 무장하였더라. | And it came to pass that he met the Lamanites in the borders of Jershon, and his people were armed with swords, and with cimeters, and all manner of weapons of war. |
| 앨 43:19 | 또 레이맨인의 군대는 니파이 백성들, 아니 모로나이가 자기 백성을 가슴판과 팔 보호대와 참으로 또한 그들의 머리를 보호할 투구로 준비시킨 것과 또 그들이 두꺼운 옷으로 옷 입은 것을 보고는 - | And when the armies of the Lamanites saw that the people of Nephi, or that Moroni, had prepared his people with breastplates and with arm-shields, yea, and also shields to defend their heads, and also they were dressed with thick clothing— |
| 앨 43:20 | 이제 제래헴나의 군대는 그 같은 어떠한 것으로도 준비를 갖추지 아니하였나니, 저들은 다만 저들의 칼과 저들의 신월도, 저들의 활과 저들의 화살, 저들의 돌과 저들의 물매만 가졌고, 저들 허리에 두른 가죽 외에는 벌거벗었더라. 참으로 조램인과 아맬레카이인 외에는 모두가 벌거벗었으며, | Now the army of Zerahemnah was not prepared with any such thing; they had only their swords and their cimeters, their bows and their arrows, their stones and their slings; and they were naked, save it were a skin which was girded about their loins; yea, all were naked, save it were the Zoramites and the Amalekites; |
| 앨 43:21 | 가슴판이나 방패로 무장하지 못하였더라 - 그리하여 저들은 저들의 수효가 니파이인들보다 훨씬 많음에도 불구하고, 그들의 갑주를 보고 니파이인들의 군대를 심히 두려워하였더라. | But they were not armed with breastplates, nor shields—therefore, they were exceedingly afraid of the armies of the Nephites because of their armor, notwithstanding their number being so much greater than the Nephites. |
| 앨 43:22 | 보라 이제 이렇게 되었나니 저들이 여어숀의 경계에서 감히 니파이인들을 공격하려 아니하였고, 그리하여 저들이 맨타이 땅에 들어와서 그 땅을 점령하고자 하여, 앤티오눔 땅에서 떠나 광야로 들어가서 멀리 시돈 강의 발원지를 지나 광야를 둘러 여행하였으니, 이는 저들이 어디로 갔는지 모로나이의 군대가 알 것이라고 생각하지 아니하였음이라. | Behold, now it came to pass that they durst not come against the Nephites in the borders of Jershon; therefore they departed out of the land of Antionum into the wilderness, and took their journey round about in the wilderness, away by the head of the river Sidon, that they might come into the land of Manti and take possession of the land; for they did not suppose that the armies of Moroni would know whither they had gone. |
| 앨 43:23 | 그러나 이렇게 되었나니, 저들이 광야로 떠남과 동시에 모로나이가 정탐을 광야로 보내어 저들의 진을 살피게 하였고, 모로나이는 또한 앨마의 예언에 대하여 알고 있었던지라, 사람 몇을 그에게로 보내어, 니파이인들의 군대가 어디로 가서 레이맨인들을 대적하여 스스로를 방어해야 할지 주께 물어 줄 것을 그에게 구하였더라. | But it came to pass, as soon as they had departed into the wilderness Moroni sent spies into the wilderness to watch their camp; and Moroni, also, knowing of the prophecies of Alma, sent certain men unto him, desiring him that he should inquire of the Lord whither the armies of the Nephites should go to defend themselves against the Lamanites. |
| 앨 43:24 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 주의 말씀이 앨마에게 임하매, 앨마가 모로나이의 사자들에게, 레이맨인들의 군대가 광야를 둘러 행군하고 있으며, 이는 저들이 맨타이 땅으로 건너가서, 백성의 더 약한 부분에 공격을 시작하려 함임을 알려 주매, 그 사자들이 가서 그 말을 모로나이에게 전하였느니라. | And it came to pass that the word of the Lord came unto Alma, and Alma informed the messengers of Moroni, that the armies of the Lamanites were marching round about in the wilderness, that they might come over into the land of Manti, that they might commence an attack upon the weaker part of the people. And those messengers went and delivered the message unto Moroni. |
| 앨 43:25 | 이제 모로나이가, 혹 어떻게라도 레이맨인들의 일부가 여어숀 땅에 들어와서 성을 점령할까 하여, 자기 군대의 일부를 그 땅에 남겨 두고 자기의 나머지 군대를 거느리고 맨타이 땅으로 행군하여 가더라. | Now Moroni, leaving a part of his army in the land of Jershon, lest by any means a part of the Lamanites should come into that land and take possession of the city, took the remaining part of his army and marched over into the land of Manti. |
| 앨 43:26 | 또 그는 그 지역의 백성들로 하여금 함께 모여 레이맨인을 대적하여 싸워, 그들의 땅과 그들의 나라, 그들의 권리와 그들의 자유를 수호하게 한지라. 그러므로 그들이 레이맨인들의 오는 때를 대비하여 준비가 갖추어졌더라. | And he caused that all the people in that quarter of the land should gather themselves together to battle against the Lamanites, to defend their lands and their country, their rights and their liberties; therefore they were prepared against the time of the coming of the Lamanites. |
| 앨 43:27 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 자기 군대로 하여금, 광야의 시돈 강 서편 시돈 강 둑에 가까운 골짜기에 숨게 하였더라. | And it came to pass that Moroni caused that his army should be secreted in the valley which was near the bank of the river Sidon, which was on the west of the river Sidon in the wilderness. |
| 앨 43:28 | 또 모로나이는 레이맨인들의 진이 언제 오는지를 알고자 사방에 정탐들을 두었더라. | And Moroni placed spies round about, that he might know when the camp of the Lamanites should come. |
| 앨 43:29 | 또 이제 모로나이는 레이맨인들의 의도를, 곧 저들의 의도가 그 형제들을 멸하거나, 혹은 속박하여 온 땅 위에 자신들을 위한 왕국을 세우려는 것인 줄을 알고 있었고, | And now, as Moroni knew the intention of the Lamanites, that it was their intention to destroy their brethren, or to subject them and bring them into bondage that they might establish a kingdom unto themselves over all the land; |
| 앨 43:30 | 그리고 또한 니파이인들의 유일한 소망은 그들의 땅과 그들의 자유와 그들의 교회를 보존하는 것임을 알았던지라, 계책으로 그들을 방어하는 것이 죄가 아니라고 생각하였더라. 그리하여 그는 자기의 정탐들로 레이맨인들이 택할 진로를 알아내었더라. | And he also knowing that it was the only desire of the Nephites to preserve their lands, and their liberty, and their church, therefore he thought it no sin that he should defend them by stratagem; therefore, he found by his spies which course the Lamanites were to take. |
| 앨 43:31 | 그리하여 그는 자신의 군대를 나누어 한 편을 골짜기로 인도하여, 그들을 리플라 언덕 동편과 남편에 매복시켰더라. | Therefore, he divided his army and brought a part over into the valley, and concealed them on the east, and on the south of the hill Riplah; |

| 앨 43:34 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이, 모로나이의 군대의 일부가 매복해 있는 언덕 북편으로 올라왔더라. | And it came to pass that the Lamanites came up on the north of the hill, where a part of the army of Moroni was concealed. |
| 앨 43:35 | 그리고 레이맨인들이 리플라 언덕을 지나, 계곡으로 들어와, 시돈 강을 건너기 시작하였을 때, 언덕 남편에 매복해 있던 군대는, 그 이름이 리하이라 하는 자에 의해 이끌렸는데, 그가 그 군대를 이끌고 나아가서 동편 레이맨인들의 후미에서 저들을 에워쌌느니라. | And as the Lamanites had passed the hill Riplah, and came into the valley, and began to cross the river Sidon, the army which was concealed on the south of the hill, which was led by a man whose name was Lehi, and he led his army forth and encircled the Lamanites about on the east in their rear. |
| 앨 43:36 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 저들의 후미에서 저들을 공격하는 니파이인들을 보고, 몸을 돌이켜 리하이의 군대와 싸우기 시작하였더라. | And it came to pass that the Lamanites, when they saw the Nephites coming upon them in their rear, turned them about and began to contend with the army of Lehi. |
| 앨 43:37 | 그리고 죽음의 일이 양쪽에서 시작되었으나, 레이맨인들 편에 더욱 가공하였나니, 이는 니파이인들이 그들의 칼과 그들의 신월도로 가하는 강한 가격에 저들의 벗은 몸이 그대로 노출되어, 거의 매번 칠 때마다 죽음이 초래되었음이라. | And the work of death commenced on both sides, but it was more dreadful on the part of the Lamanites, for their nakedness was exposed to the heavy blows of the Nephites with their swords and their cimeters, which brought death almost at every stroke. |
| 앨 43:38 | 그러나 다른 한편으로, 니파이인들은 그들의 가슴판과 그들의 팔 보호대와 그들의 투구에 의해 신체의 급소들에서 보호되고 있었으니, 곧 신체의 급소들이 레이맨인들의 공격으로부터 보호되고 있었던지라, 니파이인들 중에서는 그들의 칼과 피를 잃음으로 인해 간혹 한 사람이 쓰러졌더라. 그리하여 니파이인들이 레이맨인들 가운데서 죽음의 일을 수행하더라. | While on the other hand, there was now and then a man fell among the Nephites, by their swords and the loss of blood, they being shielded from the more vital parts of the body, or the more vital parts of the body being shielded from the strokes of the Lamanites, by their breastplates, and their armshields, and their head-plates; and thus the Nephites did carry on the work of death among the Lamanites. |
| 앨 43:39 | 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 저들 가운데 초래되는 큰 멸망을 보고 놀라더니, 이윽고 시돈 강을 향하여 도망하기 시작하였더라. | And it came to pass that the Lamanites became frightened, because of the great destruction among them, even until they began to flee towards the river Sidon. |
| 앨 43:40 | 그리고 저들은 리하이와 그의 병사들의 추격을 받고, 리하이에게 쫓겨 시돈 물로 들어가서는 시돈 물을 건넜더라. 이에 리하이가 자기 군대를 시돈 강 둑에 머무르고 건너지 못하게 하였느니라. | And they were pursued by Lehi and his men; and they were driven by Lehi into the waters of Sidon, and they crossed the waters of Sidon. And Lehi retained his armies upon the bank of the river Sidon that they should not cross. |
| 앨 43:41 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이와 그의 군대가 시돈 강 저편 계곡에서 레이맨인들을 맞아, 저들을 급습하여 도륙하기 시작하였더라. | And it came to pass that Moroni and his army met the Lamanites in the valley, on the other side of the river Sidon, and began to fall upon them and to slay them. |
| 앨 43:42 | 이에 레이맨인들이 다시 그들 앞에서 맨타이 땅을 향하여 도망하였으나, 다시 모로나이의 군대와 만나게 되었더라. | And the Lamanites did flee again before them, towards the land of Manti; and they were met again by the armies of Moroni. |
| 앨 43:43 | 이제 이러한 처지에서 레이맨인들이 실로 맹렬히 싸웠나니, 사람들이 알기로 레이맨인들이 그처럼 심히 큰 힘과 용기를 가지고 싸운 적이 결코 없었느니라. 과연 처음부터도 없었느니라. | Now in this case the Lamanites did fight exceedingly; yea, never had the Lamanites been known to fight with such exceedingly great strength and courage, no, not even from the beginning. |
| 앨 43:44 | 또 저들은 저들의 총대장이요 지휘관인 조램인과 아맬레카이인들에게, 또 저들의 총대장, 곧 저들의 총지휘관이요 사령관인 제래헴나에게 고무되어 참으로 용처럼 싸운지라, 많은 니파이인이 저들의 손에 죽임을 당하였으니, 실로 이는 저들이 그들의 투구를 많이 둘로 가르고, 그들의 가슴판을 많이 꿰뚫고, 그들의 팔을 많이 쳐서 떨어뜨렸음이라. 이같이 레이맨인들이 그 맹렬한 노여움 중에 쳤더라. | And they were inspired by the Zoramites and the Amalekites, who were their chief captains and leaders, and by Zerahemnah, who was their chief captain, or their chief leader and commander; yea, they did fight like dragons, and many of the Nephites were slain by their hands, yea, for they did smite in two many of their head-plates, and they did pierce many of their breastplates, and they did smite off many of their arms; and thus the Lamanites did smite in their fierce anger. |
| 앨 43:45 | 그러나 니파이인들은 더 나은 대의로 고무되었으니, 이는 그들이 군주제나 권력을 위하여 싸우는 것이 아니요 다만 그들의 가정과 그들의 자유, 그들의 아내와 그들의 자녀, 그리고 그들의 모든 것을 위하여, 참으로 그들의 예배 의식과 그들의 교회를 위하여 싸우고 있었음이라. | Nevertheless, the Nephites were inspired by a better cause, for they were not fighting for monarchy nor power but they were fighting for their homes and their liberties, their wives and their children, and their all, yea, for their rites of worship and their church. |
| 앨 43:46 | 또 그들은 그들의 하나님께 대하여 지고 있는 의무라고 느낀 바를 행하고 있었나니, 이는 주께서 그들과 또한 그 조상들에게 이르시기를, 너희가 첫 번째 공격의 죄가 없고, 두 번째도 그러하거든, 너희는 너희 원수들의 손에 스스로 죽임을 당하지 말 것이라 하셨음이라. | And they were doing that which they felt was the duty which they owed to their God; for the Lord had said unto them, and also unto their fathers, that: Inasmuch as ye are not guilty of the first offense, neither the second, ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies. |

Therefore for this cause were the Nephites contending with the Lamanites, to defend themselves, and their families, and their lands, their country, and their rights, and their religion. |

And Moroni, perceiving their intent, sent forth and inspired their hearts with these thoughts—yea, the thoughts of their lands, their liberty, yea, their freedom from bondage. |

| 앨 43:50 | 그리고 힘을 가지고 레이맨인들에게 대항하기 시작하매, 그들이 그들의 해방을 위하여 주께 부르짖음과 동시에, 레이맨인들이 그들 앞에서 도망하기 시작하여 저들이 시돈 물까지 도망하였더라. | And they began to stand against the Lamanites with power; and in that selfsame hour that they cried unto the Lord for their freedom, the Lamanites began to flee before them; and they fled even to the waters of Sidon. |

| 앨 43:53 | 그리하여 제래헴나가 본즉, 시돈 강 동편에는 리하이의 병사들이 있고 시돈 강 서편에는 모로나이의 군대가 있어, 자기들이 니파이인들에게 에워싸였는지라, 그들이 공포에 사로잡혔더라. | Therefore when Zerahemnah saw the men of Lehi on the east of the river Sidon, and the armies of Moroni on the west of the river Sidon, that they were encircled about by the Nephites, they were struck with terror. |
