앨 62:1 이에 이제 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 이 서한을 받으매 그 마음이 용기를 얻고 심히 큰 기쁨으로 충만하게 되었으니, 이는 페이호랜이 충성되어 그가 또한 나라의 자유와 대의를 저버리는 배신자가 아님으로 인함이라. And now it came to pass that when Moroni had received this epistle his heart did take courage, and was filled with exceedingly great joy because of the faithfulness of Pahoran, that he was not also a traitor to the freedom and cause of his country.
앨 62:2 그러나 그는 또한 페이호랜을 판사직에서 몰아낸 자들의 죄악으로 인하여, 요컨대 자기 나라와 또한 자기 하나님을 거스려 반역한 자들로 인하여 심히 슬퍼하였더라. But he did also mourn exceedingly because of the iniquity of those who had driven Pahoran from the judgment-seat, yea, in fine because of those who had rebelled against their country and also their God.
앨 62:3 이에 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 페이호랜의 요구대로 소수의 군사를 취하고, 나머지 자기 군대에 대한 지휘권을 리하이와 티앤쿰에게 준 후 기드온 땅을 향해 행군해 가더라. And it came to pass that Moroni took a small number of men, according to the desire of Pahoran, and gave Lehi and Teancum command over the remainder of his army, and took his march towards the land of Gideon.
앨 62:4 그리고 어느 동리에 들어가든지 그 곳에 자유의 기를 세워, 기드온 땅을 향하여 진군해 가는 동안 내내 그가 얻을 수 있는 병력을 다 얻었더라. And he did raise the standard of liberty in whatsoever place he did enter, and gained whatsoever force he could in all his march towards the land of Gideon.
앨 62:5 그리고 수천 명이 그의 깃발로 모여 들어, 속박에 들지 않고자, 그들의 자유를 지키기 위하여 그들의 칼을 들었더라. And it came to pass that thousands did flock unto his standard, and did take up their swords in the defence of their freedom, that they might not come into bondage.
앨 62:6 이리하여 모로나이가 그 행군하여 오는 동안 내내 모을 수 있는 모든 군사를 모으고, 기드온 땅에 이르러, 그의 병력을 페이호랜의 병력과 합하매 그들이 심히 강하게 되니, 곧 자유파의 백성들을 제이라헤믈라 땅에서 쫓아내고 그 땅을 차지한 이 반역자들의 왕 페이쿠스의 군사들보다 더욱 강하게 되었더라. And thus, when Moroni had gathered together whatsoever men he could in all his march, he came to the land of Gideon; and uniting his forces with those of Pahoran they became exceedingly strong, even stronger than the men of Pachus, who was the king of those dissenters who had driven the freemen out of the land of Zarahemla and had taken possession of the land.
앨 62:7 이에 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이와 페이호랜이 그들의 군대를 거느리고 제이라헤믈라 땅으로 내려가서, 성을 치러 나아가 페이쿠스의 군사들을 대면하매, 그들이 교전하게 되었더라. And it came to pass that Moroni and Pahoran went down with their armies into the land of Zarahemla, and went forth against the city, and did meet the men of Pachus, insomuch that they did come to battle.
앨 62:8 이에 보라, 페이쿠스는 죽임을 당하고 그의 군사들은 잡혀 포로가 된지라, 페이호랜이 판사직에 회복되니라. And behold, Pachus was slain and his men were taken prisoners, and Pahoran was restored to his judgment-seat.
앨 62:9 그리고 페이쿠스의 군사들은 법에 따라 재판을 받고, 또한 붙잡혀 투옥되었던 왕당파 사람들은 법에 따라 처형되었으니, 참으로 페이쿠스의 군사들과 왕당파 사람들로서 무릇 자기 나라를 지키기 위해 무기를 들려하지 아니하고, 도리어 자기 나라를 대적하여 싸우고자 하였던 자들은 누구든지 사형에 처하여졌느니라. And the men of Pachus received their trial, according to the law, and also those king-men who had been taken and cast into prison; and they were executed according to the law; yea, those men of Pachus and those king-men, whosoever would not take up arms in the defence of their country, but would fight against it, were put to death.
앨 62:10 또 이리하여 그들의 나라의 안전을 위하여 이 법이 엄격히 지켜져야 할 필요가 있게 된지라, 실로 그들의 자유를 부인하는 것으로 드러나는 자는 누구든지 속히 법에 따라 처형되었더라. And thus it became expedient that this law should be strictly observed for the safety of their country; yea, and whosoever was found denying their freedom was speedily executed according to the law.
앨 62:11 이에 이같이 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제삼십년이 끝나니, 모로나이와 페이호랜은 자유의 대의에 충실하지 아니한 모든 자로 죽음을 당하게 하고, 제이라헤믈라 땅에 자기 백성 가운데 평화를 회복하였더라. And thus ended the thirtieth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi; Moroni and Pahoran having restored peace to the land of Zarahemla, among their own people, having inflicted death upon all those who were not true to the cause of freedom.
앨 62:12 또 이렇게 되었나니 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제삼십일년 초에, 모로나이가 즉시 식량과 또한 군사 육천 명을 힐라맨에게 보내게 하여, 그를 도와 그 쪽 지역을 지키게 하였더라. And it came to pass in the commencement of the thirty and first year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi, Moroni immediately caused that provisions should be sent, and also an army of six thousand men should be sent unto Helaman, to assist him in preserving that part of the land.
앨 62:13 또 군사 육천 명의 군대를 충분한 양의 양식과 함께 리하이와 티앤쿰의 군대에게 보내게 하였더라. 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들에 대비하여 그 땅을 견고히 하기 위하여 이 일이 시행되었더라. And he also caused that an army of six thousand men, with a sufficient quantity of food, should be sent to the armies of Lehi and Teancum. And it came to pass that this was done to fortify the land against the Lamanites.
앨 62:14 또 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이와 페이호랜은, 많은 군사를 제이라헤믈라 땅에 남겨 두고는, 니파이하 성의 레이맨인들을 전복하기로 작정하고, 많은 수의 군사를 거느리고 니파이하 땅을 향하여 진군하여 갔더라. And it came to pass that Moroni and Pahoran, leaving a large body of men in the land of Zarahemla, took their march with a large body of men towards the land of Nephihah, being determined to overthrow the Lamanites in that city.
앨 62:15 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 니파이하 땅을 향하여 진군하면서, 레이맨인의 많은 군사를 붙들어, 저들 중 많은 자를 도륙하고, 저들의 식량과 저들의 전쟁 무기를 취하였더라. And it came to pass that as they were marching towards the land, they took a large body of men of the Lamanites, and slew many of them, and took their provisions and their weapons of war.
앨 62:16 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 이를 취한 후에, 저들로 다시는 니파이인들을 대적하여 저들의 전쟁 무기를 들지 않겠다는 언약을 맺게 하였더라. And it came to pass after they had taken them, they caused them to enter into a covenant that they would no more take up their weapons of war against the Nephites.
앨 62:17 그리고 저들이 이 언약을 맺은 후에 저들을 암몬 백성과 함께 살도록 보내었으니, 저들 곧 죽임을 당하지 아니한 자의 수효가 사천 명 가량이었더라. And when they had entered into this covenant they sent them to dwell with the people of Ammon, and they were in number about four thousand who had not been slain.
앨 62:18 또 이렇게 되었나니 저들을 보내고 나서 그들은 니파이하 땅을 향하여 진군을 계속하였더라. 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 니파이하 성에 이르러, 니파이하 성에 가까운 니파이하 평지에 그들의 장막을 치니라. And it came to pass that when they had sent them away they pursued their march towards the land of Nephihah. And it came to pass that when they had come to the city of Nephihah, they did pitch their tents in the plains of Nephihah, which is near the city of Nephihah.
앨 62:19 이제 모로나이는 레이맨인들이 평지에서 자기들과 싸우러 나오기를 바랐으나, 레이맨인들은 그들의 심히 큰 용기를 알고 또 그들의 수효가 많음을 보는 고로 감히 그들을 치러 나오지 못하니라. 그리하여 그 날 저들은 싸우러 나아오지 아니하였더라. Now Moroni was desirous that the Lamanites should come out to battle against them, upon the plains; but the Lamanites, knowing of their exceedingly great courage, and beholding the greatness of their numbers, therefore they durst not come out against them; therefore they did not come to battle in that day.
앨 62:20 이에 밤이 되매, 모로나이가 야음을 타고 나아가서, 성 어느 부분에 레이맨인들이 저들의 군대와 함께 진 치고 있는가를 탐지해 내기 위해 성벽 꼭대기에 올라갔더라. And when the night came, Moroni went forth in the darkness of the night, and came upon the top of the wall to spy out in what part of the city the Lamanites did camp with their army.
앨 62:21 이에 이렇게 되었나니 저들이 동편 입구 가까이에 있고 모두 잠들어 있더라. 이에 이제 모로나이가 자기 군대로 돌아와, 그들로 하여금 성벽 꼭대기에서 성벽 안쪽으로 내릴 튼튼한 줄과 사다리들을 급히 준비하게 하였더라. And it came to pass that they were on the east, by the entrance; and they were all asleep. And now Moroni returned to his army, and caused that they should prepare in haste strong cords and ladders, to be let down from the top of the wall into the inner part of the wall.
앨 62:22 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 자기의 군사들로 하여금 진군해 나아가서 성벽 꼭대기에 오르게 한 다음, 성의 그 부분 곧 레이맨인들이 저들의 군대와 함께 진 치지 아니한 서편으로 내려가게 하였더라. And it came to pass that Moroni caused that his men should march forth and come upon the top of the wall, and let themselves down into that part of the city, yea, even on the west, where the Lamanites did not camp with their armies.
앨 62:23 이에 그들이 그들의 튼튼한 줄과 그들의 사다리를 써서 밤에 모두 성 안으로 내려가니, 이리하여 아침이 되었을 때 그들은 모두 성 안에 있더라. And it came to pass that they were all let down into the city by night, by the means of their strong cords and their ladders; thus when the morning came they were all within the walls of the city.
앨 62:24 이에 이제 레이맨인들이 깨어 모로나이의 군대가 성 안에 있는 것을 보고 심히 두려워하더니, 이윽고 통로를 지나 도망하여 나가는지라. And now, when the Lamanites awoke and saw that the armies of Moroni were within the walls, they were affrighted exceedingly, insomuch that they did flee out by the pass.
앨 62:25 이에 이제 모로나이가 저들이 자기 앞에서 도망함을 보고, 자기 군사들로 하여금 저들을 치러 진군해 나아가게 하고, 많은 자를 죽이고, 그 외에 많은 자를 에워싸 포로로 잡으매, 저들의 나머지는 해안 가까이의 변경에 있는 모로나이 땅으로 도망하였더라. And now when Moroni saw that they were fleeing before him, he did cause that his men should march forth against them, and slew many, and surrounded many others, and took them prisoners; and the remainder of them fled into the land of Moroni, which was in the borders by the seashore.
앨 62:26 이같이 모로나이와 페이호랜은 한 명도 잃지 아니하고 니파이하 성을 점령하였으나, 죽임을 당한 레이맨인들은 많았더라. Thus had Moroni and Pahoran obtained the possession of the city of Nephihah without the loss of one soul; and there were many of the Lamanites who were slain.
앨 62:27 이제 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들 중 포로가 된 많은 자들이 암몬 백성과 연합하여 자유로운 백성이 되기를 원하였더라. Now it came to pass that many of the Lamanites that were prisoners were desirous to join the people of Ammon and become a free people.
앨 62:28 이에 원하는 자에게는 모두 저들의 소원대로 허락하여 주었더라. And it came to pass that as many as were desirous, unto them it was granted according to their desires.
앨 62:29 그리하여 모든 레이맨인 포로들이 다 암몬 백성에게 합류하여, 부지런히 일하기 시작하여, 토지를 경작하며, 온갖 곡식을 재배하며, 각종 가축을 기르매, 이로 인해 니파이인들이 큰 짐을 덜었으니, 참으로 그 결과 그들이 모든 레이맨인 포로들을 지키는 일을 덜었더라. Therefore, all the prisoners of the Lamanites did join the people of Ammon, and did begin to labor exceedingly, tilling the ground, raising all manner of grain, and flocks and herds of every kind; and thus were the Nephites relieved from a great burden; yea, insomuch that they were relieved from all the prisoners of the Lamanites.
앨 62:30 이제 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 니파이하 성을 점령하고 나서 많은 포로를 잡은 것이, 레이맨인들의 군대를 크게 감소시켰고, 또 포로로 잡혔던 니파이인들을 많이 되찾은 것이 모로나이의 군대를 크게 강화하였으므로, 모로나이가 니파이하 땅에서 리하이 땅으로 나아갔더라. Now it came to pass that Moroni, after he had obtained possession of the city of Nephihah, having taken many prisoners, which did reduce the armies of the Lamanites exceedingly, and having regained many of the Nephites who had been taken prisoners, which did strengthen the army of Moroni exceedingly; therefore Moroni went forth from the land of Nephihah to the land of Lehi.
앨 62:31 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들이 본즉 모로나이가 자기들을 치러 오고 있는지라, 그들이 다시 크게 놀라 모로나이의 군대 앞에서 도망하니라. And it came to pass that when the Lamanites saw that Moroni was coming against them, they were again frightened and fled before the army of Moroni.
앨 62:32 이에 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이와 그의 군대가 저들을 성읍에서 성읍으로 추격하더니, 이윽고 저들이 리하이와 티앤쿰에게 만난 바 되었고, 레이맨인들은 리하이와 티앤쿰에게서 도망하여 바닷가에 가까운 변경으로 내려가, 드디어 모로나이 땅에 이르렀더라. And it came to pass that Moroni and his army did pursue them from city to city, until they were met by Lehi and Teancum; and the Lamanites fled from Lehi and Teancum, even down upon the borders by the seashore, until they came to the land of Moroni.
앨 62:33 이에 레이맨인들의 군대는 모두 함께 모여, 그 결과 모로나이 땅에서 한 무리가 되었더라. 이제 레이맨인의 왕 앰모론도 저들과 함께 있더라. And the armies of the Lamanites were all gathered together, insomuch that they were all in one body in the land of Moroni. Now Ammoron, the king of the Lamanites, was also with them.
앨 62:34 이에 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이와 리하이와 티앤쿰이 그들의 군대와 더불어 모로나이 땅 변경 주변에 진 치매, 레이맨인들은 남쪽으로 광야에 인접한 변경에, 또 동쪽으로 광야에 인접한 변경에 둘러 싸였더라. And it came to pass that Moroni and Lehi and Teancum did encamp with their armies round about in the borders of the land of Moroni, insomuch that the Lamanites were encircled about in the borders by the wilderness on the south, and in the borders by the wilderness on the east.
앨 62:35 이에 이같이 그들이 밤 동안 진을 쳤으니, 이는 보라, 니파이인들과 또한 레이맨인들도 힘든 행군으로 인하여 지쳤음이라. 그러므로 그들이 밤 사이에는 어떠한 계책도 베풀기로 결정하지 아니하였으나, 다만 티앤쿰이 그렇지 아니하였나니, 이는 그가 앰모론에게 심히 노하여, 앰모론과 그의 형 아맬리카이아야말로 바로 그처럼 많은 전쟁과 유혈과 또한 그처럼 많은 기근을 초래해 온 바 그들과 레이맨인들 사이의 이 크고 오래 가는 전쟁의 원인이라 생각하였음이라. And thus they did encamp for the night. For behold, the Nephites and the Lamanites also were weary because of the greatness of the march; therefore they did not resolve upon any stratagem in the night-time, save it were Teancum; for he was exceedingly angry with Ammoron, insomuch that he considered that Ammoron, and Amalickiah his brother, had been the cause of this great and lasting war between them and the Lamanites, which had been the cause of so much war and bloodshed, yea, and so much famine.
앨 62:36 이에 이렇게 되었나니 티앤쿰이 그 분노 중에 나아가서 레이맨인들의 진으로 들어가 성벽을 넘어 내려가니라. 이에 그가 줄을 가지고 이 곳에서 저 곳으로 나아가다가 마침내 왕을 발견하고 그에게 창을 던지매, 창이 그의 심장 근처를 꿰뚫었더라. 그러나 보라, 왕이 숨지기 전 그의 종들을 깨웠으므로 그들이 티앤쿰을 추격하여 그를 죽였더라. And it came to pass that Teancum in his anger did go forth into the camp of the Lamanites, and did let himself down over the walls of the city. And he went forth with a cord, from place to place, insomuch that he did find the king; and he did cast a javelin at him, which did pierce him near the heart. But behold, the king did awaken his servants before he died, insomuch that they did pursue Teancum, and slew him.
앨 62:37 이제 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이와 리하이가 티앤쿰이 죽었음을 알고 심히 슬퍼하였으니, 이는 보라, 그가 자기 나라를 위하여 용맹히 싸운 자요, 과연 진정한 자유의 벗이었으며, 또 그는 심히 혹독한 고난을 허다히 겪었음이더라. 그러나 보라, 그가 죽어 온 세상이 가는 길을 갔느니라. Now it came to pass that when Lehi and Moroni knew that Teancum was dead they were exceedingly sorrowful; for behold, he had been a man who had fought valiantly for his country, yea, a true friend to liberty; and he had suffered very many exceedingly sore afflictions. But behold, he was dead, and had gone the way of all the earth.
앨 62:38 이제 이렇게 되었나니 다음 날 모로나이가 진군하여 나아가 레이맨인들을 엄습하여 그들을 큰 살육으로 살육하였고, 그들을 그 땅에서 몰아내매 그들이 도망하고 그때에 그들이 니파이인들을 대적하러 돌아오지 아니하였느니라. Now it came to pass that Moroni marched forth on the morrow, and came upon the Lamanites, insomuch that they did slay them with a great slaughter; and they did drive them out of the land; and they did flee, even that they did not return at that time against the Nephites.
앨 62:39 이같이 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제삼십일년이 끝났고, 또 이같이 그들이 여러 해 동안 전쟁과 유혈과 기근과 고난을 당하였더라. And thus ended the thirty and first year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi; and thus they had had wars, and bloodsheds, and famine, and affliction, for the space of many years.
앨 62:40 또 니파이 백성 중에는 살인과 분쟁과 불화와 온갖 죄악이 있었으나, 그럼에도 불구하고 의인들을 위하여, 참으로 의인들의 기도로 말미암아 그들을 멸하지 아니하셨더라. And there had been murders, and contentions, and dissensions, and all manner of iniquity among the people of Nephi; nevertheless for the righteous' sake, yea, because of the prayers of the righteous, they were spared.
앨 62:41 그러나 보라, 니파이인과 레이맨인들 사이의 전쟁이 심히 길었음으로 인하여 많은 자들이 완악하게 되었으니, 이는 전쟁이 심히 길었음으로 인함이요, 또 많은 자들이 그들의 고난으로 인하여 마음이 부드러워졌으니, 이에 그들은 하나님 앞에 지극한 겸양으로 스스로 겸손하여졌더라. But behold, because of the exceedingly great length of the war between the Nephites and the Lamanites many had become hardened, because of the exceedingly great length of the war; and many were softened because of their afflictions, insomuch that they did humble themselves before God, even in the depth of humility.
앨 62:42 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 레이맨인들에게 가장 침공당하기 쉬운 지역들을 견고히 하여 충분히 강하게 한 후 제이라헤믈라 성으로 돌아갔고, 힐라맨 역시 자기 기업의 곳으로 돌아갔으며, 니파이 백성 중에는 다시 한 번 평화가 이룩되었더라. And it came to pass that after Moroni had fortified those parts of the land which were most exposed to the Lamanites, until they were sufficiently strong, he returned to the city of Zarahemla; and also Helaman returned to the place of his inheritance; and there was once more peace established among the people of Nephi.
앨 62:43 또 모로나이는 그의 군대의 지휘권을 모로나이하라 이름하는 그의 아들의 손에 넘겨주고, 그의 여생을 평안한 가운데 보내고자 자기의 집으로 물러갔더라. And Moroni yielded up the command of his armies into the hands of his son, whose name was Moronihah; and he retired to his own house that he might spend the remainder of his days in peace.
앨 62:44 또 페이호랜은 그의 판사직에 복귀하였고, 힐라맨은 하나님의 말씀을 백성들에게 전파하는 일을 다시 맡았으니, 이는 그처럼 많은 전쟁과 분쟁으로 인하여 교회 내의 일을 다시 바로잡을 필요가 생겼음이더라. And Pahoran did return to his judgment-seat; and Helaman did take upon him again to preach unto the people the word of God; for because of so many wars and contentions it had become expedient that a regulation should be made again in the church.
앨 62:45 그리하여 힐라맨과 그의 형제들이 나아가 많은 능력으로 하나님의 말씀을 선포하여 많은 백성에게 그들의 간악함을 깨닫게 하매, 이로 말미암아 그들이 자기 죄를 회개하고 침례를 받고 주 그들의 하나님께 나아오더라. Therefore, Helaman and his brethren went forth, and did declare the word of God with much power unto the convincing of many people of their wickedness, which did cause them to repent of their sins and to be baptized unto the Lord their God.
앨 62:46 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 온 땅에 하나님의 교회를 다시 확립하였더라. And it came to pass that they did establish again the church of God, throughout all the land.
앨 62:47 참으로 또한 법에 관한 규정도 만들어져서, 그들의 판사와 그들의 대판사들이 택함을 받았더라. Yea, and regulations were made concerning the law. And their judges, and their chief judges were chosen.
앨 62:48 또 니파이 백성들은 그 땅에서 다시 번영하기 시작하였고, 그 땅에서 다시 번성하며 심히 강하여지기 시작하였더라. 이에 그들은 또 심히 부하여지기 시작하였더라. And the people of Nephi began to prosper again in the land, and began to multiply and to wax exceedingly strong again in the land. And they began to grow exceedingly rich.
앨 62:49 그러나 그들은 부나, 그들의 세력이나, 그들의 번영에도 불구하고, 그들은 그들의 눈의 교만 중에 자고하게 되지 아니하고, 주 그들의 하나님 기억하기를 더디 하지도 아니하고, 그 앞에서 스스로 심히 겸손하였더라. But notwithstanding their riches, or their strength, or their prosperity, they were not lifted up in the pride of their eyes; neither were they slow to remember the Lord their God; but they did humble themselves exceedingly before him.
앨 62:50 참으로 그들은 주께서 그들을 위하여 얼마나 큰 일 행하신 것을, 곧 그들을 사망에서와 속박에서와 옥에서와 온갖 고난에서 건지신 것과, 그들을 그들의 원수의 손에서 건져 내신 것을 기억하였느니라. Yea, they did remember how great things the Lord had done for them, that he had delivered them from death, and from bonds, and from prisons, and from all manner of afflictions and he had delivered them out of the hands of their enemies.
앨 62:51 또 그들이 주 그들의 하나님께 쉬지 않고 기도하매, 주께서 그의 말씀대로 그들에게 복을 주신지라, 그들이 강하여지고 그 땅에서 번영하였더라. And they did pray unto the Lord their God continually, insomuch that the Lord did bless them, according to his word, so that they did wax strong and prosper in the land.
앨 62:52 이에 이렇게 되었나니 이 모든 일이 이루어지고, 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제삼십오년에 힐라맨이 죽었느니라. And it came to pass that all these things were done. And Helaman died, in the thirty and fifth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi.
