The Lord commands Ammon to lead the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi to safety—Upon meeting Alma, Ammon’s joy exhausts his strength—The Nephites give them the land of Jershon—They are called the people of Ammon. 앨 27:1 이제 이렇게 되었나니 니파이인들을 대적하여 전쟁하러 갔던 그 레이맨인들이 니파이인들을 멸하고자 여러 번 노력하고 나서, 그들의 멸망을 꾀하는 것이 헛된 줄을 알고, 니파이 땅으로 다시 돌아갔더라. NOW it came to pass that when those Lamanites who had gone to war against the Nephites had found, after their many struggles to destroy them, that it was in vain to seek their destruction, they returned again to the land of Nephi.
앨 27:2 이에 이렇게 되었나니 아맬레카이인들이 그들의 손실로 인하여, 심히 분노하더니, 니파이인들에게서 복수를 꾀할 수 없음을 보고, 백성들로 하여금 그들의 형제 앤타이-니파이-리하이 백성에 대하여 노하도록 부추기기 시작한지라, 그러므로 그들이 다시 앤타이-니파이-리하이 백성을 멸하기 시작하니라. And it came to pass that the Amalekites, because of their loss, were exceedingly angry. And when they saw that they could not seek revenge from the Nephites, they began to stir up the people in anger against their brethren, the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi; therefore they began again to destroy them.
앨 27:3 이제 이 백성은 자신의 무기 들기를 다시 거절하고, 스스로 그 원수들의 원하는 대로 죽임을 당하니라. Now this people again refused to take their arms, and they suffered themselves to be slain according to the desires of their enemies.
앨 27:4 이제 암몬과 그의 형제들은 자신들이 그처럼 간절히 사랑하는 이들 중에서, 또 자신들을 그처럼 간절히 사랑한 이들 중에서 자행되는 이 큰 멸망의 행위를 보았을 때 - 이는 그들이 저들을 영원한 멸망에서 구원하기 위하여 하나님에게서 보내심을 받은 천사들인 듯 대접을 받았음이라 - 이러므로 암몬과 그 형제들이 이 큰 멸망의 행위를 보았을 때, 측은히 여기는 마음이 가득하여 왕에게 이르되, Now when Ammon and his brethren saw this work of destruction among those whom they so dearly beloved, and among those who had so dearly beloved them—for they were treated as though they were angels sent from God to save them from everlasting destruction—therefore, when Ammon and his brethren saw this great work of destruction, they were moved with compassion, and they said unto the king:
앨 27:5 멸망당하지 않도록, 우리가 주의 이 백성을 함께 모아, 제이라헤믈라 땅으로 우리의 형제 니파이인들에게로 내려가서, 우리 원수들의 손에서 피하사이다 하였더라. Let us gather together this people of the Lord, and let us go down to the land of Zarahemla to our brethren the Nephites, and flee out of the hands of our enemies, that we be not destroyed.
앨 27:6 그러나 왕이 저들에게 이르되, 보라, 우리가 그들을 대하여 범한 많은 살인과 죄로 인하여, 니파이인들이 우리를 멸하리라 하는지라. But the king said unto them: Behold, the Nephites will destroy us, because of the many murders and sins we have committed against them.
앨 27:7 이에 암몬이 이르되, 내가 가서 주께 여쭈오리니, 만일 주께서 우리에게 우리 형제들에게로 내려가라 하시면, 가시겠나이까? And Ammon said: I will go and inquire of the Lord, and if he say unto us, go down unto our brethren, will ye go?
앨 27:8 이에 왕이 그에게 이르되, 가리라, 주께서 우리에게 가라 하시면, 우리는 우리의 형제들에게로 내려가, 우리가 그들에게 범한 많은 살인과 죄를 그들에게 보상하기까지 그들의 노예가 되리라. And the king said unto him: Yea, if the Lord saith unto us go, we will go down unto our brethren, and we will be their slaves until we repair unto them the many murders and sins which we have committed against them.
앨 27:9 그러나 암몬이 그에게 이르되, 그들 중에 노예를 두는 일은, 나의 부친에 의하여 제정된 우리 형제들의 법에 거스리는 것이온즉, 내려가 우리 형제들의 처분에 맡기사이다. But Ammon said unto him: It is against the law of our brethren, which was established by my father, that there should be any slaves among them; therefore let us go down and rely upon the mercies of our brethren.
앨 27:10 그러나 왕이 그에게 이르되, 주께 여쭈어 보라, 만일 그가 우리에게 가라 하시면, 우리가 가려니와, 그렇지 아니하면 우리가 이 땅에서 죽으리라. But the king said unto him: Inquire of the Lord, and if he saith unto us go, we will go; otherwise we will perish in the land.
앨 27:11 이에 이렇게 되었나니 암몬이 가서 주께 여쭈니, 주께서 그에게 이르시되, And it came to pass that Ammon went and inquired of the Lord, and the Lord said unto him:
앨 27:12 이 백성을 데리고 이 땅에서 나가, 그들로 멸망되지 않게 하라. 이는 사탄이 아맬레카이인들의 마음을 크게 사로잡았으므로, 저들이 레이맨인들을 충동하여 저들의 형제를 대하여 노하게 하고 그들을 죽이게 함이니라. 그러므로 너는 이 땅에서 나가라, 또 이 세대에 이 백성에게 복이 있나니, 이는 내가 그들을 보전할 것임이니라. Get this people out of this land, that they perish not; for Satan has great hold on the hearts of the Amalekites, who do stir up the Lamanites to anger against their brethren to slay them; therefore get thee out of this land; and blessed are this people in this generation, for I will preserve them.
앨 27:13 이에 이제 이렇게 되었나니 암몬이 가서 왕에게 주께서 그에게 하신 말씀을 다 고하였더라. And now it came to pass that Ammon went and told the king all the words which the Lord had said unto him.
앨 27:14 이에 그들이 그들의 온 백성, 곧 주의 온 백성을 다 함께 모으고, 또 그들의 양 떼와 소 떼를 다 함께 모아 그 땅을 떠나서, 니파이 땅과 제이라헤믈라 땅을 나누는 광야로 들어와서는, 그 땅의 경계 가까이에 이르렀더라. And they gathered together all their people, yea, all the people of the Lord, and did gather together all their flocks and herds, and departed out of the land, and came into the wilderness which divided the land of Nephi from the land of Zarahemla, and came over near the borders of the land.
앨 27:15 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 암몬이 그들에게 이르되, 보소서, 나와 내 형제들이 나아가 제이라헤믈라 땅에 들어가리니, 당신들은 우리가 돌아오기까지 여기에 머물러 있으소서, 우리가 우리 형제들의 마음을 시험하여 저들이 당신들을 자기들의 땅으로 들어오게 하려는지 알아보겠나이다. And it came to pass that Ammon said unto them: Behold, I and my brethren will go forth into the land of Zarahemla, and ye shall remain here until we return; and we will try the hearts of our brethren, whether they will that ye shall come into their land.
앨 27:16 이에 이렇게 되었나니 암몬이 나아가 그 땅에 들어가다가,앞서 말한 곳에서 그와 그의 형제들이 앨마를 만나니, 보라 이는 기쁜 만남이었더라. And it came to pass that as Ammon was going forth into the land, that he and his brethren met Alma, over in the place of which has been spoken; and behold, this was a joyful meeting.
앨 27:17 이제 암몬의 기쁨은 어찌나 컸던지 그가 충만하게 되었나니, 참으로 그가 그 하나님의 기쁨 속에 삼키운 바 되어, 자기 힘이 소진되기에 이르매, 그가 땅에 다시 쓰러지니라. Now the joy of Ammon was so great even that he was full; yea, he was swallowed up in the joy of his God, even to the exhausting of his strength; and he fell again to the earth.
앨 27:18 이제 이것은 심히 큰 기쁨이 아니더냐? 보라, 이는 바로 진실로 뉘우치고 겸손하게 행복을 찾는 자가 아니면 아무도 받지 못하는 기쁨이니라. Now was not this exceeding joy? Behold, this is joy which none receiveth save it be the truly penitent and humble seeker of happiness.
앨 27:19 이제 그 형제들을 만난 앨마의 기쁨이 진실로 컸고, 아론, 옴너, 힘나이의 기쁨 또한 그러하였으나, 보라 그들의 기쁨은 그들의 힘을 지나칠 그러한 것은 아니었더라. Now the joy of Alma in meeting his brethren was truly great, and also the joy of Aaron, of Omner, and Himni; but behold their joy was not that to exceed their strength.
앨 27:20 이에 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앨마가 그의 형제들을 다시 제이라헤믈라 땅으로, 곧 자기 집으로 인도하였고, 그들이 가서 대판사에게 니파이 땅에서 그들의 형제 레이맨인들 가운데서 그들에게 일어났던 일들을 다 고하였더라. And now it came to pass that Alma conducted his brethren back to the land of Zarahemla; even to his own house. And they went and told the chief judge all the things that had happened unto them in the land of Nephi, among their brethren, the Lamanites.
앨 27:21 이에 이렇게 되었나니 대판사가 그 온 땅에 포고를 보내어, 백성들에게 그들의 형제, 곧 앤타이-니파이-리하이 백성을 받아들임에 대한 그들의 소리를 구하였더라. And it came to pass that the chief judge sent a proclamation throughout all the land, desiring the voice of the people concerning the admitting their brethren, who were the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.
앨 27:22 이에 이렇게 되었나니 백성의 소리가 이르러 이르되, 보소서, 동편 바닷가에 있어, 풍요 땅과 접하고, 풍요 땅 남쪽에 있는 여어숀 땅을 우리가 내어 주리니, 이 여어숀 땅이 우리가 우리의 형제들에게 기업으로 줄 땅이니이다. And it came to pass that the voice of the people came, saying: Behold, we will give up the land of Jershon, which is on the east by the sea, which joins the land Bountiful, which is on the south of the land Bountiful; and this land Jershon is the land which we will give unto our brethren for an inheritance.
앨 27:23 또 보소서, 우리가 여어숀 땅에 있게 될 우리의 형제들을 보호하기 위하여 여어숀 땅과 니파이 땅 사이에 우리 군대를 두리니, 우리가 우리의 형제들을 위하여 이같이 행하는 것은, 그들이 죄를 범하게 될까 염려하여 그 형제들을 대적하여 무기 들기를 두려워하는 연고이오며, 그들의 이 큰 두려움은 그들의 많은 살인과 그들의 끔찍한 간악함으로 말미암아, 그들이 쓰라린 회개를 하였음으로 인하여 왔나이다. And behold, we will set our armies between the land Jershon and the land Nephi, that we may protect our brethren in the land Jershon; and this we do for our brethren, on account of their fear to take up arms against their brethren lest they should commit sin; and this their great fear came because of their sore repentance which they had, on account of their many murders and their awful wickedness.
앨 27:24 이제 보소서, 이를 우리가 우리의 형제들에게 행하여, 그들로 여어숀 땅을 기업으로 갖게 하겠고, 또 우리가 우리의 군대를 유지할 수 있도록 그들이 그 재물의 일부를 우리에게 주어 우리를 돕는다는 조건하에, 우리가 우리의 군대로 그들을 그 적으로부터 지키겠나이다 하였더라. And now behold, this will we do unto our brethren, that they may inherit the land Jershon; and we will guard them from their enemies with our armies, on condition that they will give us a portion of their substance to assist us that we may maintain our armies.
앨 27:25 이제 이렇게 되었나니 암몬이 이를 듣고, 앤타이-니파이-리하이 백성에게로 돌아가되, 앨마도 함께 하여, 그들이 그 장막을 친 광야로 가서, 그들에게 이 모든 일을 알게 하였고, 앨마는 또한 암몬과 아론과 그의 형제들과 함께 그의 돌이킴을 그들에게 말해 주었더라. Now, it came to pass that when Ammon had heard this, he returned to the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi, and also Alma with him, into the wilderness, where they had pitched their tents, and made known unto them all these things. And Alma also related unto them his conversion, with Ammon and Aaron, and his brethren.
앨 27:26 이에 이렇게 되었나니 이 일이 그들로 크게 기뻐하게 한지라, 이에 그들이 여어숀 땅으로 내려가, 여어숀 땅을 차지하고, 니파이인들에게 암몬 백성이라 일컬음을 받으니, 그러므로 이후로는 내내 그 이름으로 구별되니라. And it came to pass that it did cause great joy among them. And they went down into the land of Jershon, and took possession of the land of Jershon; and they were called by the Nephites the people of Ammon; therefore they were distinguished by that name ever after.
앨 27:27 또 그들은 니파이 백성 가운데 있었고, 또한 하나님의 교회에 속한 백성 가운데 헤아림을 받았으며, 또한 그들은 하나님께와, 또한 사람들에게 향한 그들의 열심으로도 구별되었으니, 이는 그들이 모든 일에 온전히 정직하고 올바르며, 또 그리스도의 신앙 안에서 굳건하되, 참으로 끝까지 그러하였기 때문이었더라. And they were among the people of Nephi, and also numbered among the people who were of the church of God. And they were also distinguished for their zeal towards God, and also towards men; for they were perfectly honest and upright in all things; and they were firm in the faith of Christ, even unto the end.
앨 27:28 또 그들은 자기 형제의 피 흘리는 일을 지극히 혐오하였고, 자기 형제를 대적하여 무기를 들도록 결코 설복될 수 없었으며, 또 그들은 그리스도와 부활에 대한 그들의 소망과 소견으로 인해, 죽음에 대하여는 여하한 정도의 공포도 결코 갖지 아니하였으니, 그러므로 그들에게 있어 죽음은 이를 이기신 그리스도의 승리에 삼키운 바 된 것이더라. And they did look upon shedding the blood of their brethren with the greatest abhorrence; and they never could be prevailed upon to take up arms against their brethren; and they never did look upon death with any degree of terror, for their hope and views of Christ and the resurrection; therefore, death was swallowed up to them by the victory of Christ over it.
앨 27:29 그러므로 그들은 칼과 신월도를 잡고 자기 형제를 치기에 앞서, 그들에 의해 가해질 수 있는 가장 가혹하고도 고통스러운 방법으로일지라도 죽음을 당하고자 한 것이더라. Therefore, they would suffer death in the most aggravating and distressing manner which could be inflicted by their brethren, before they would take the sword or cimeter to smite them.
앨 27:30 그리하여 그들은 열심이었으며 사랑을 받는 백성, 곧 크게 은총을 입는 주의 백성이었더라. And thus they were a zealous and beloved people, a highly favored people of the Lord.
