소개	아맬리카이아가 왕 되기를 획책함 - 모로나이가 자유의 기치를 들어 올림 - 그가 백성들의 종교를 수호하기 위해 백성들을 규합함 - 참되게 믿는 자들은 그리스도인이라 일컬음을 받음 - 요셉의 남은 자들이 보존될 것임 - 아맬리카이아와 이반자들이 니파이 땅으로 도망함 - 자유의 대의를 지지하려 아니하는 자는 사형에 처해짐. 주전 73~72년경.	Amalickiah conspires to be king—Moroni raises the title of liberty—He rallies the people to defend their religion—True believers are called Christians—A remnant of Joseph shall be preserved—Amalickiah and the dissenters flee to the land of Nephi—Those who will not support the cause of freedom are put to death. [Between 73 and 72 B.C.]
앨 46:1	또 이렇게 되었나니 무릇 힐라맨과 그의 형제들의 말에 귀 기울이려 하지 않는 자들이 다 함께 모여 그 형제들을 대적하였더라.	AND it came to pass that as many as would not hearken to the words of Helaman and his brethren were gathered together against their brethren.
앨 46:2	그리고 이제 보라, 그들이 심히 노하여 마침내 저들을 도륙하기로 작정하였더라.	And now behold, they were exceedingly wroth, insomuch that they were determined to slay them.
앨 46:3	이제 그 형제들에게 대하여 노한 자들의 지도자는 크고 힘센 자로 그 이름이 아맬리카이아더라.	Now the leader of those who were wroth against their brethren was a large and a strong man; and his name was Amalickiah.
앨 46:4	그리고 아맬리카이아는 왕 되기를 원하였고, 노한 그 백성들도 그가 자기들의 왕이 되기를 원하였나니, 이들은 대개가 그 땅의 하급 판사들로서 권력을 추구하고 있었더라.	And Amalickiah was desirous to be a king; and those people who were wroth were also desirous that he should be their king; and they were the greater part of them the lower judges of the land, and they were seeking for power.
앨 46:5	또 그들은, 만일 자기를 지원하여 자기를 세워 그들의 왕이 되게 하면 그들로 백성을 다스리는 치리자를 삼겠다는 아맬리카이아의 감언에 이끌렸었더라.	And they had been led by the flatteries of Amalickiah, that if they would support him and establish him to be their king that he would make them rulers over the people.
앨 46:6	이리하여 교회의 대제사인 힐라맨과 그의 형제들의 가르침에도 불구하고, 참으로 교회에 대한 이들의 심히 큰 염려에도 불구하고, 그들은 아맬리카이아에게 이끌려 이반을 일으키게 되었더라.	Thus they were led away by Amalickiah to dissensions, notwithstanding the preaching of Helaman and his brethren, yea, notwithstanding their exceedingly great care over the church, for they were high priests over the church.
앨 46:7	또 아맬리카이아의 아첨하는 말을 믿은 자가 교회 안에도 많아, 그들이 심지어 교회로부터도 이탈해 나갔나니, 레이맨인들에게 거둔 큰 승리와 주의 손에 건지심을 입음으로 인하여 가졌었던 큰 기쁨에도 불구하고, 니파이 백성의 형세는 이같이 심히 불안하고 위험하였더라.	And there were many in the church who believed in the flattering words of Amalickiah, therefore they dissented even from the church; and thus were the affairs of the people of Nephi exceedingly precarious and dangerous, notwithstanding their great victory which they had had over the Lamanites, and their great rejoicings which they had had because of their deliverance by the hand of the Lord.
앨 46:8	이러므로 우리는 사람의 자녀들이 얼마나 속히 주 저희 하나님을 잊는지, 참으로 얼마나 속히 불의를 행하며, 저 악한 자에게 이끌려 가는지를 알 수 있었더라.	Thus we see how quick the children of men do forget the Lord their God, yea, how quick to do iniquity, and to be led away by the evil one.
앨 46:9	참으로 또한 매우 간악한 사람 하나가 사람의 자녀들 가운데 생기게 할 수 있는 큰 간악함도 알게 되었더라.	Yea, and we also see the great wickedness one very wicked man can cause to take place among the children of men.
앨 46:10	참으로 우리는 아맬리카이아가, 그 자신 간교한 술책의 사람이요 아첨하는 말을 많이 하는 사람이었던 까닭에, 많은 백성의 마음을 이끌어 내어 악을 행하게 하고, 또한 하나님의 교회를 무너뜨리며, 하나님이 그들에게 허락하여 주신 자유, 곧 의인들을 위하여 하나님이 이 땅에 보내신 축복인 자유의 기초를 파괴하기를 꾀하게 하였음을 알고 있느니라.	Yea, we see that Amalickiah, because he was a man of cunning device and a man of many flattering words, that he led away the hearts of many people to do wickedly; yea, and to seek to destroy the church of God, and to destroy the foundation of liberty which God had granted unto them, or which blessing God had sent upon the face of the land for the righteous’ sake.
앨 46:11	이에 이제 이렇게 되었나니 니파이인 군대의 총사령관이었던 모로나이가 이 이반의 소식을 듣고, 아맬리카이아에게 노하였더라.	And now it came to pass that when Moroni, who was the chief commander of the armies of the Nephites, had heard of these dissensions, he was angry with Amalickiah.
앨 46:12	또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 자기의 겉옷을 찢고, 그 한 조각을 취하여, 그 위에 - 우리의 하나님과 우리의 종교와 자유와 우리의 평화와 우리의 아내와 우리의 자녀를 기억하여 - 라고 쓰고 그것을 장대 끝에 비끄러매었더라.	And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.
앨 46:13	그리고 그의 투구와 그의 가슴판과 그의 방패를 단단히 매고 그의 갑옷을 그 허리에 두르고 그 찢은 겉옷을 끝에 매단 장대를 들고 (그는 이를 자유의 기치라 칭하였더라) 땅에 엎드려, 땅을 소유할 그리스도인의 무리가 남아 있는 동안은, 자유의 축복이 자기의 형제들 위에 머물러 있기를 그 하나님께 간절히 기도하였나니 -	And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land—
앨 46:14	이는 하나님의 교회에 속한 자로서, 그리스도를 진실로 믿는 자들은, 교회에 속하지 아니한 자들에게 다 이같이 일컬어졌음이라.	For thus were all the true believers of Christ, who belonged to the church of God, called by those who did not belong to the church.
앨 46:15	또 교회에 속한 자들은 충실하였고, 참으로 무릇 그리스도를 진실로 믿는 자들은 기쁘게 그리스도의 이름, 곧 사람들이 일컫는 대로는 그리스도인이라 하는 이름을 받들었나니, 그들을 이같이 일컬었음은 장차 오실 그리스도를 믿는 저희의 믿음의 연고더라.	And those who did belong to the church were faithful; yea, all those who were true believers in Christ took upon them, gladly, the name of Christ, or Christians as they were called, because of their belief in Christ who should come.
앨 46:16	그리하여 이때 모로나이는 그리스도인들의 대의와, 그 땅의 자유를 도우시기를 기도한 것이더라.	And therefore, at this time, Moroni prayed that the cause of the Christians, and the freedom of the land might be favored.
앨 46:17	또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 그 영혼을 하나님께 쏟아내고 나서, 황무 땅 남쪽의 모든 땅과 또한 요컨대 북방과 남방의 모든 땅을 택함 받은 땅이요, 자유의 땅이라 이름하였더라.	And it came to pass that when he had poured out his soul to God, he named all the land which was south of the land Desolation, yea, and in fine, all the land, both on the north and on the south—A chosen land, and the land of liberty.
앨 46:18	또 이르되, 정녕 하나님은 우리 곧 그리스도의 이름을 받드는 까닭에 멸시받는 우리가 짓밟혀 멸망당하도록 버려 두지 아니하시리니, 우리가 우리 스스로의 범법으로 이를 자초하기 전에는 그리하지 아니하시리라 하더라.	And he said: Surely God shall not suffer that we, who are despised because we take upon us the name of Christ, shall be trodden down and destroyed, until we bring it upon us by our own transgressions.
앨 46:19	또 모로나이가 이 말을 하고 나서 백성 가운데로 나아가, 그 옷의 찢은 조각을 공중에 흔들어 찢은 조각 위에 자기가 쓴 것을 모두가 볼 수 있게 하며, 큰 소리로 외쳐 이르되,	And when Moroni had said these words, he went forth among the people, waving the rent part of his garment in the air, that all might see the writing which he had written upon the rent part, and crying with a loud voice, saying:
앨 46:20	보라, 무릇 이 땅 위에 이 기치를 지키기 원하는 자는 다 주의 힘 안에 나아와, 자기의 권리와 자기의 종교를 지키겠다는 성약을 맺어, 주 하나님께서 그를 축복하시게 하라 하였느니라.	Behold, whosoever will maintain this title upon the land, let them come forth in the strength of the Lord, and enter into a covenant that they will maintain their rights, and their religion, that the Lord God may bless them.
앨 46:21	이에 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 이 말을 공포하고 나자, 보라, 백성들이 그 허리에 그들의 갑옷을 두르고 함께 달려와, 주 저희의 하나님을 저버리지 않겠다는 표시, 곧 성약으로써 그들의 옷을 찢었나니, 다른 말로 하자면 그들이 만일 하나님의 계명을 범하거나, 범법에 빠져 그리스도의 이름을 받들기를 부끄러워하게 된다면, 그들이 그들의 옷을 찢은 것같이 주께서 그들을 찢으실지로다 함이라.	And it came to pass that when Moroni had proclaimed these words, behold, the people came running together with their armor girded about their loins, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord their God; or, in other words, if they should transgress the commandments of God, or fall into transgression, and be ashamed to take upon them the name of Christ, the Lord should rend them even as they had rent their garments.
앨 46:22	이제 그들이 맺은 성약이 이러하였으니, 그들이 모로나이의 발에 그들의 옷을 던지며 이르되, 우리가 우리 하나님과 성약하노니, 만일 우리가 범법에 빠진다면, 북방 땅의 우리 형제들 같이 우리가 멸망당할 것이라, 참으로 만일 우리가 범법에 빠진다면, 이제 우리가 우리 옷을 당신 발에 던져 발 아래 밟히게 한 것같이, 그가 우리를 우리 대적의 발에 던지실지로다 하매,	Now this was the covenant which they made, and they cast their garments at the feet of Moroni, saying: We covenant with our God, that we shall be destroyed, even as our brethren in the land northward, if we shall fall into transgression; yea, he may cast us at the feet of our enemies, even as we have cast our garments at thy feet to be trodden under foot, if we shall fall into transgression.
앨 46:23	모로나이가 그들에게 이르되, 보라, 우리는 야곱 자손의 남은 자들이니라. 참으로 우리는, 그 옷이 그 형제들에게 여러 조각으로 찢기웠던 요셉 자손의 남은 자들이라, 과연 그러하니 이제 보라, 우리는 하나님의 계명을 지킬 것을 기억하자. 그렇지 아니하면 우리의 옷이 우리의 형제들에게 찢길 것이요, 우리는 옥에 던져지거나, 팔리우거나, 죽임을 당하리라.	Moroni said unto them: Behold, we are a remnant of the seed of Jacob; yea, we are a remnant of the seed of Joseph, whose coat was rent by his brethren into many pieces; yea, and now behold, let us remember to keep the commandments of God, or our garments shall be rent by our brethren, and we be cast into prison, or be sold, or be slain.
앨 46:24	참으로 우리는 요셉의 남은 자들로서 우리의 자유를 지키자. 참으로 우리는 야곱이 죽기 전에 한 말을 기억하자. 이는 보라, 그가 요셉의 겉옷의 남은 조각 일부가 썩지 않고 보전된 것을 보았음이니, 그가 이르되 - 내 아들의 옷의 이 남은 조각이 보전된 것같이, 내 아들의 자손의 남은 자들이 하나님의 손으로 보전되어 하나님께로 취하심을 입으리라, 한편 요셉 자손의 나머지는 그의 옷의 남은 조각처럼 멸망하리로다.	Yea, let us preserve our liberty as a remnant of Joseph; yea, let us remember the words of Jacob, before his death, for behold, he saw that a part of the remnant of the coat of Joseph was preserved and had not decayed. And he said—Even as this remnant of garment of my son hath been preserved, so shall a remnant of the seed of my son be preserved by the hand of God, and be taken unto himself, while the remainder of the seed of Joseph shall perish, even as the remnant of his garment.
앨 46:25	이제 보라, 이 일이 내 영혼을 슬프게 하나, 그럼에도 불구하고 그의 자손 중 하나님께로 취하심을 입을 그 부류로 인하여, 내 영혼이 내 아들 안에서 기쁨을 얻는도다 하였느니라.	Now behold, this giveth my soul sorrow; nevertheless, my soul hath joy in my son, because of that part of his seed which shall be taken unto God.
앨 46:26	이제 보라, 야곱의 말이 이러하였느니라.	Now behold, this was the language of Jacob.
앨 46:27	그리고 이제 그의 옷처럼 멸망할 요셉 자손의 남은 자들이 바로 우리에게서 떨어져 나간 자들인지 누가 아느냐? 또한 만일 우리가 그리스도의 신앙 안에 굳게 서지 않는다면 그것은 바로 우리가 되리라.	And now who knoweth but what the remnant of the seed of Joseph, which shall perish as his garment, are those who have dissented from us? Yea, and even it shall be ourselves if we do not stand fast in the faith of Christ.
앨 46:28	그리고 이제 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 이 말을 하고 나서 그 자신이 나아가되, 또한 이반이 있는 그 땅의 모든 곳에 사람을 보내어, 무릇 자신들의 자유를 지키고, 아맬리카이아 및 떨어져 나가서 아맬리카이아인이라 일컫는 자들을 대적하기 원하는 백성을 다 함께 모았느니라.	And now it came to pass that when Moroni had said these words he went forth, and also sent forth in all the parts of the land where there were dissensions, and gathered together all the people who were desirous to maintain their liberty, to stand against Amalickiah and those who had dissented, who were called Amalickiahites.
앨 46:29	이에 이렇게 되었나니 아맬리카이아가, 모로나이의 백성이 아맬리카이아인들보다 수효가 많은 것을 보고 - 그가 또한 자기의 백성들이 그 시작한 일의 대의의 정당성에 대하여 의심스러워하는 것을 본지라 - 그러므로 그가 그 목적을 달성하지 못할 것을 두려워하여 그 백성 중에서 원하는 자들을 취하고 니파이 땅으로 떠났더라.	And it came to pass that when Amalickiah saw that the people of Moroni were more numerous than the Amalickiahites—and he also saw that his people were doubtful concerning the justice of the cause in which they had undertaken—therefore, fearing that he should not gain the point, he took those of his people who would and departed into the land of Nephi.
앨 46:30	이제 모로나이는 레이맨인들이 더 이상의 세력을 갖는 것이 적절치 않다고 생각하였나니, 그리하여 그는 아맬리카이아의 백성을 차단하든지, 아니면 그들을 붙잡아 다시 데려오고, 아맬리카이아는 사형에 처하려고 생각하였더라. 참으로 이는 그가 레이맨인들을 충동하여 그들에게 대하여 노하게 하고, 저들로 그들을 대적하여 싸우러 오게 할 것임을 그가 알았음이니, 아맬리카이아가 자기의 목적을 이루기 위하여 이렇게 하리라는 것을 그가 알았더라.	Now Moroni thought it was not expedient that the Lamanites should have any more strength; therefore he thought to cut off the people of Amalickiah, or to take them and bring them back, and put Amalickiah to death; yea, for he knew that he would stir up the Lamanites to anger against them, and cause them to come to battle against them; and this he knew that Amalickiah would do that he might obtain his purposes.
앨 46:31	그리하여 모로나이는, 함께 모여 스스로 무장하고 평화를 지키기로 성약을 맺은 그의 군대를 거느림이 적절하다 생각하였던지라 - 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그는 광야에서 아맬리카이아의 진로를 차단하기 위하여, 그의 군대를 거느리고 그의 장막을 가지고 광야로 진군해 나갔더라.	Therefore Moroni thought it was expedient that he should take his armies, who had gathered themselves together, and armed themselves, and entered into a covenant to keep the peace—and it came to pass that he took his army and marched out with his tents into the wilderness, to cut off the course of Amalickiah in the wilderness.
앨 46:32	이에 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이가 자기의 원대로 행하여 광야로 진군해 나아가서, 아맬리카이아의 군대를 가로막았더라.	And it came to pass that he did according to his desires, and marched forth into the wilderness, and headed the armies of Amalickiah.
앨 46:33	이에 이렇게 되었나니 아맬리카이아가 소수의 자기 병사들과 함께 도망하였고, 나머지는 모로나이의 손에 넘기워 제이라헤믈라 땅으로 도로 데려와졌더라.	And it came to pass that Amalickiah fled with a small number of his men, and the remainder were delivered up into the hands of Moroni and were taken back into the land of Zarahemla.
앨 46:34	이제 모로나이는 대판사들과 백성의 소리에 의해 임명된 사람이었으므로, 니파이인들의 군대와 관련하여 그의 뜻대로 그들 위에 권력을 세우고 행사할 수 있는 권세가 그에게 있었더라.	Now, Moroni being a man who was appointed by the chief judges and the voice of the people, therefore he had power according to his will with the armies of the Nephites, to establish and to exercise authority over them.
앨 46:35	이에 이렇게 되었나니 그가 아맬리카이아인들 중에서 누구든지 자유로운 정치 체제를 지키고자 자유의 대의를 지지하기로 언약을 맺지 아니하는 자는 사형에 처하게 하였으되, 자유의 언약을 거부한 자는 소수 밖에 없었더라.	And it came to pass that whomsoever of the Amalickiahites that would not enter into a covenant to support the cause of freedom, that they might maintain a free government, he caused to be put to death; and there were but few who denied the covenant of freedom.
앨 46:36	또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 또한 니파이인들이 소유한 모든 땅에 있는 각 망대 위에 자유의 기치를 게양하게 하였으니, 이같이 모로나이가 니파이인들 가운데 자유의 기를 심었더라.	And it came to pass also, that he caused the title of liberty to be hoisted upon every tower which was in all the land, which was possessed by the Nephites; and thus Moroni planted the standard of liberty among the Nephites.
앨 46:37	이리하여 그들이 다시 그 땅에서 평화를 누리기 시작하였고, 이리하여 그들이 거의 판사 치세 제십구년 말까지 그 땅에서 평화를 유지하였더라.	And they began to have peace again in the land; and thus they did maintain peace in the land until nearly the end of the nineteenth year of the reign of the judges.
앨 46:38	또한 힐라맨과 대제사들도 교회 내에서 질서를 유지하매, 참으로 그들이 사 년 동안 교회 안에서 많은 화평과 기쁨을 누렸느니라.	And Helaman and the high priests did also maintain order in the church; yea, even for the space of four years did they have much peace and rejoicing in the church.
앨 46:39	또 이렇게 되었나니 그 영혼이 주 예수 그리스도께 구속받았음을 굳게 믿고 죽는 자들이 많았나니, 그리하여 그들은 기뻐하며 세상에서 나갔더라.	And it came to pass that there were many who died, firmly believing that their souls were redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ; thus they went out of the world rejoicing.
앨 46:40	또 그 땅에 연중 어떤 계절에 매우 빈번하던 열병으로 죽는 자들이 더러 있었으나 - 그러나 열병으로 그처럼 많이 죽지는 아니하였나니, 이는 기후의 특성으로 말미암아 사람들이 걸리기 쉬웠던 여러 질병의 원인을 제거하기 위하여 하나님이 예비하신 많은 초목과 뿌리의 우수한 효능 까닭이었더라 -	And there were some who died with fevers, which at some seasons of the year were very frequent in the land—but not so much so with fevers, because of the excellent qualities of the many plants and roots which God had prepared to remove the cause of diseases, to which men were subject by the nature of the climate—
앨 46:41	그러나 나이 많아 죽는 자가 많았고, 또 그리스도의 신앙 안에서 죽은 자들은 그리스도 안에서 행복하니 곧 우리가 마땅히 생각해야 할 그대로니라.	But there were many who died with old age; and those who died in the faith of Christ are happy in him, as we must needs suppose.
