소개 레이맨인들이 한 격심한 전투에서 패배함 - 수만이 죽임을 당함 - 악인들은 끝없는 재난의 상태에 처하게 되고, 의인들은 결코 끝나지 않는 행복에 이르게 됨. 주전 77~76년경. The Lamanites are defeated in a tremendous battle—Tens of thousands are slain—The wicked are consigned to a state of endless woe; the righteous attain a never-ending happiness. [About 76 B.C.]
앨 28:1 그리고 이제 이렇게 되었나니 암몬 백성이 여어숀 땅에 정착하고, 교회가 또한 여어숀 땅에 세워지고, 니파이인들의 군대가 여어숀 땅 둘레에, 참으로 제이라헤믈라 땅 주위의 모든 국경에 배치되고 난 후, 보라 레이맨인들의 군대가 그들의 형제를 뒤따라 광야로 들어왔더라. AND now it came to pass that after the people of Ammon were established in the land of Jershon, and a church also established in the land of Jershon, and the armies of the Nephites were set round about the land of Jershon, yea, in all the borders round about the land of Zarahemla; behold the armies of the Lamanites had followed their brethren into the wilderness.
앨 28:2 이에 그리하여 격심한 전투가 있었으니, 참으로 리하이가 예루살렘을 떠난 때로부터 백성들 간에 결코 알려진 적이 없었던 그러한 전투였으며, 또한 수만의 레이맨인들이 죽임을 당하고 널리 흩어졌더라. And thus there was a tremendous battle; yea, even such an one as never had been known among all the people in the land from the time Lehi left Jerusalem; yea, and tens of thousands of the Lamanites were slain and scattered abroad.
앨 28:3 또한 니파이 백성 가운데서도 막대한 살육이 있었으나, 그럼에도 레이맨인들은 쫓겨서 흩어졌고, 니파이 백성은 그들의 땅으로 다시 돌아갔더라. Yea, and also there was a tremendous slaughter among the people of Nephi; nevertheless, the Lamanites were driven and scattered, and the people of Nephi returned again to their land.
앨 28:4 또 이제 이는 그 온 땅 도처에 모든 니파이 백성 가운데, 큰 애통과 애곡하는 소리가 들린 때였으니 - And now this was a time that there was a great mourning and lamentation heard throughout all the land, among all the people of Nephi—
앨 28:5 참으로 과부들은 그 남편들로 인하여, 또한 아버지들은 그 아들들로 인하여, 또 딸은 형제로 인하여, 참으로 형제는 아버지로 인하여 애통하는 부르짖음이라. 그리하여 죽임을 당한 그들의 혈족으로 인하여 애통하는 애통의 부르짖음이, 온 백성 가운데 들렸느니라. Yea, the cry of widows mourning for their husbands, and also of fathers mourning for their sons, and the daughter for the brother, yea, the brother for the father; and thus the cry of mourning was heard among all of them, mourning for their kindred who had been slain.
앨 28:6 또 이제 이는 정녕 슬픈 날, 엄숙한 때요, 많은 금식과 기도의 때이었더라. And now surely this was a sorrowful day; yea, a time of solemnity, and a time of much fasting and prayer.
앨 28:7 이같이 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제십오년이 끝나니라. And thus endeth the fifteenth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi;
앨 28:8 또 이는 암몬과 그의 형제들에 대한 기사라, 니파이 땅에서의 그들의 여정과 그 땅에서의 그들의 수난과 그들의 슬픔과 그들의 고난과 그들의 불가해한 기쁨과 여어숀 땅에서의 형제들의 영접과 안전에 대한 것이니라. 이제 주 곧 만인의 구속주께서 그들의 영혼에 영원토록 복 주시기를 바라노라. And this is the account of Ammon and his brethren, their journeyings in the land of Nephi, their sufferings in the land, their sorrows, and their afflictions, and their incomprehensible joy, and the reception and safety of the brethren in the land of Jershon. And now may the Lord, the Redeemer of all men, bless their souls forever.
앨 28:9 또 이는 니파이인들 사이의 전쟁과 다툼과 또한 니파이인들과 레이맨인들 사이의 전쟁의 기사니, 이에 판사 치세 제십오년이 끝났느니라. And this is the account of the wars and contentions among the Nephites, and also the wars between the Nephites and the Lamanites; and the fifteenth year of the reign of the judges is ended.
앨 28:10 또 제일년부터 제십오년까지 수천 생명의 멸망이 있었나니, 참으로 그 사이 끔찍한 유혈의 참극이 일어났느니라. And from the first year to the fifteenth has brought to pass the destruction of many thousand lives; yea, it has brought to pass an awful scene of bloodshed.
앨 28:11 그리하여 수천의 육신이 땅 속에 낮게 뉘이고, 한편으로는 수천의 육신이 지면 위에서 무더기를 이루어 썩고 있으며, 또한 수천이 그들의 친족을 잃음으로 슬퍼하고 있나니, 이는 주의 약속대로, 그들이 끝없는 재난의 상태에 처하게 됨을 두려워할 만한 이유가 그들에게 있음이라. And the bodies of many thousands are laid low in the earth, while the bodies of many thousands are moldering in heaps upon the face of the earth; yea, and many thousands are mourning for the loss of their kindred, because they have reason to fear, according to the promises of the Lord, that they are consigned to a state of endless wo.
앨 28:12 한편으로 또 다른 수천은 그들의 친족들을 잃음으로 인하여 진실로 슬퍼함에도 불구하고, 주의 약속대로, 일으킴을 받아, 결코 끝나지 않는 행복의 상태로 하나님 우편에 거하게 된다는 소망 중에, 또 이를 알기까지 하여, 기뻐하고 크게 기뻐하고 있도다. While many thousands of others truly mourn for the loss of their kindred, yet they rejoice and exult in the hope, and even know, according to the promises of the Lord, that they are raised to dwell at the right hand of God, in a state of never-ending happiness.
앨 28:13 또 이러므로 우리는 죄와 범법과 악마의 권능으로 인한 사람의 차이가 얼마나 큰가를 알게 되나니, 그것은 그가 사람들의 마음을 올무로 잡듯 하려고 고안해 낸 간교한 계획에 의해서 오느니라. And thus we see how great the inequality of man is because of sin and transgression, and the power of the devil, which comes by the cunning plans which he hath devised to ensnare the hearts of men.
앨 28:14 또 이러므로 우리는 사람들이 부지런히 주의 포도원에서 일해야 한다는 큰 부름을 알게 되며, 또 이리하여 우리는 슬픔과 또한 기뻐함의 큰 이유를 알게 되나니, 슬픔은 사람들 가운데 죽음과 멸망으로 말미암으며 기쁨은 생명에 이르는 그리스도의 빛으로 말미암느니라. And thus we see the great call of diligence of men to labor in the vineyards of the Lord; and thus we see the great reason of sorrow, and also of rejoicing—sorrow because of death and destruction among men, and joy because of the light of Christ unto life.
