| 앨 37:1 | 그리고 이제 나의 아들 힐라맨아, 내가 네게 명하노니 너는 내가 맡아온 기록들을 취하라. | AND now, my son Helaman, I command you that ye take the records which have been entrusted with me; |
| 앨 37:2 | 그리고 내가 또 네게 명하노니 너는 니파이의 판에 내가 해 온 대로 이 백성에 대한 기록을 계속하고, 내가 간수해 온 이 모든 것을, 내가 간수해 온 것같이 거룩히 간수하라. 이는 이것이 간수되는 것이 한 현명한 목적을 위해서임이라. | And I also command you that ye keep a record of this people, according as I have done, upon the plates of Nephi, and keep all these things sacred which I have kept, even as I have kept them; for it is for a wise purpose that they are kept. |
| 앨 37:3 | 또 이 새긴 것들을 담고 있고, 거룩한 경전의 기록이 있으며, 태초로부터의 우리 선조들의 족보가 실려 있는 이 놋쇠판은 - | And these plates of brass, which contain these engravings, which have the records of the holy scriptures upon them, which have the genealogy of our forefathers, even from the beginning— |
| 앨 37:4 | 보라, 우리 조상들이 예언하기를 이것은 간수되어 한 세대에서 다른 세대로 전달되어 내려갈 것이며, 또 모든 나라와 족속과 방언과 백성에게 나아가, 그들이 그에 실린 비밀에 대해 알게 될 때까지, 주의 손으로 간수되고 보존될 것이라 하였느니라. | Behold, it has been prophesied by our fathers, that they should be kept and handed down from one generation to another, and be kept and preserved by the hand of the Lord until they should go forth unto every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, that they shall know of the mysteries contained thereon. |
| 앨 37:5 | 또 이제 보라, 이 판이 만일 보존된다고 하면 그 광채를 반드시 유지해야 할 것이니, 과연 그 광채를 유지할 것이며, 참으로 또한 성스러운 기록을 담고 있는 모든 판이 다 그러하리라. | And now behold, if they are kept they must retain their brightness; yea, and they will retain their brightness; yea, and also shall all the plates which do contain that which is holy writ. |
| 앨 37:6 | 이제 너는 이것이 내 안에 있는 어리석음이라 생각할지 모르나, 보라 내가 네게 이르노니 작고 단순한 일로 큰 일이 이루어지며, 많은 경우에 작은 방편이 현명한 자를 부끄럽게 하느니라. | Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. |
| 앨 37:7 | 또 주 하나님께서는 그의 크고 영원한 목적들을 이루시기 위하여 방편으로 일하시나니, 주께서는 아주 작은 방편으로 현명한 자를 부끄럽게 하시고 많은 영혼의 구원을 이루시느니라. | And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls. |
| 앨 37:8 | 또 이제 이러한 것이 보존됨은 지금까지 하나님 안에 있는 지혜였나니, 이는 보라, 이러한 것이 이 백성의 기억을 넓혀 주었고, 또한 많은 자들에게 그들의 길의 잘못을 깨닫게 하고, 그들을 그들의 하나님에 대한 지식으로 인도하여, 그들의 영혼의 구원에 이르게 하였음이라. | And now, it has hitherto been wisdom in God that these things should be preserved; for behold, they have enlarged the memory of this people, yea, and convinced many of the error of their ways, and brought them to the knowledge of their God unto the salvation of their souls. |
| 앨 37:9 | 참으로 내가 네게 이르노니, 이 판에 있는 바, 이 기록이 담고 있는 이러한 것이 아니었다면, 암몬과 그의 형제들이 그처럼 많은 수천의 레이맨인들에게 그들 조상의 그릇된 전통을 깨닫게 할 수 없었을 것이라. 참으로 이 기록과 저들의 말이 그들을 회개로 인도하였나니, 곧 그들을 주 그들의 하나님에 대한 지식으로 인도하고, 그들의 구속주 예수 그리스도 안에서 기뻐하게 하였느니라. | Yea, I say unto you, were it not for these things that these records do contain, which are on these plates, Ammon and his brethren could not have convinced so many thousands of the Lamanites of the incorrect tradition of their fathers; yea, these records and their words brought them unto repentance; that is, they brought them to the knowledge of the Lord their God, and to rejoice in Jesus Christ their Redeemer. |
| 앨 37:10 | 그런즉 이것이 수천의 레이맨인과 그뿐 아니라 또한 목이 뻣뻣한 수천의 우리 형제들, 곧 죄와 불의 가운데 그 마음을 완악하게 하고 있는 니파이인들을, 그들의 구속주에 대한 지식으로 인도할 방편이 될지 누가 아느냐? | And who knoweth but what they will be the means of bringing many thousands of them, yea, and also many thousands of our stiffnecked brethren, the Nephites, who are now hardening their hearts in sin and iniquities, to the knowledge of their Redeemer? |
| 앨 37:11 | 이제 이 비밀이 아직 내게 완전히 알려지지 아니하였나니, 그러므로 내가 삼가리라. | Now these mysteries are not yet fully made known unto me; therefore I shall forbear. |
| 앨 37:12 | 그리고 만일 내가 다만 이것이 한 현명한 목적을 위하여 보존되고 있으며, 그 목적은 하나님께 알려져 있다고 말하면 그것으로 족하리니, 이는 그가 그 지으신 모든 것을 지혜로 다스리심이며, 그의 길은 곧고, 그의 진로는 하나의 영원한 원임이니라. | And it may suffice if I only say they are preserved for a wise purpose, which purpose is known unto God; for he doth counsel in wisdom over all his works, and his paths are straight, and his course is one eternal round. |
| 앨 37:13 | 오 기억하라, 내 아들 힐라맨아, 하나님의 계명이 얼마나 엄격한 것인지 기억하라. 또 그가 말씀하시되, 너희가 내 계명을 지킬진대 땅에서 번성하리라 하셨느니라 - 그러나 너희가 그의 계명을 지키지 아니하면 너희는 그의 면전에서 끊어지게 되리라. |
O remember, remember, my son Helaman, how strict are the commandments of God. And he said: If ye will keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land—but if ye keep not his commandments ye shall be cut off from his presence. |
| 앨 37:14 | 또 이제 내 아들아, 하나님께서 이것들을 네게 맡기셨음을 기억하라. 이는 거룩한 것이요, 그가 거룩히 지켜 오신 것이며, 또한 그가 자기 안에 있는 한 현명한 목적을 위하여 지키고 보전하실 것이니, 이는 장래 세대에게 그의 권능을 나타내 보이시고자 하심이니라. | And now remember, my son, that God has entrusted you with these things, which are sacred, which he has kept sacred, and also which he will keep and preserve for a wise purpose in him, that he may show forth his power unto future generations. |
| 앨 37:15 | 또 이제 보라, 내가 예언의 영으로 네게 말하노니, 만일 네가 하나님의 계명을 범하면, 보라, 거룩한 이것들을 하나님의 권능으로 네게서 빼앗아 가실 것이요, 너는 사탄에게 넘기우리니, 그가 너를 바람 앞의 겨같이 체질하리라. | And now behold, I tell you by the spirit of prophecy, that if ye transgress the commandments of God, behold, these things which are sacred shall be taken away from you by the power of God, and ye shall be delivered up unto Satan, that he may sift you as chaff before the wind. |
| 앨 37:16 | 그러나 만일 네가 하나님의 계명을 지키고, 거룩한 이것들을 가지고 행하기를 주께서 네게 명하시는 바대로 하면, (이는 네가 이것들을 가지고 무엇을 하게 되든지 모든 일을 주께 간구해야 함이라) 보라, 땅이나 지옥의 능력이 이것들을 네게서 빼앗지 못하리니, 하나님은 권능이 크시므로 그의 모든 말씀을 이루심이니라. | But if ye keep the commandments of God, and do with these things which are sacred according to that which the Lord doth command you, (for you must appeal unto the Lord for all things whatsoever ye must do with them) behold, no power of earth or hell can take them from you, for God is powerful to the fulfilling of all his words. |
| 앨 37:17 | 이는 그가 너희에게 하실 그의 약속을 다 이루실 것임이니, 이는 그가 우리 조상들에게 하신 그의 약속을 이루셨음이라. | For he will fulfil all his promises which he shall make unto you, for he has fulfilled his promises which he has made unto our fathers. |
| 앨 37:18 | 이는 그가 장래 세대에게 그의 권능을 나타내 보이시고자, 자기 안에 있는 한 현명한 목적을 위해 이것들을 보전하겠다고 그들에게 약속하셨음이니라. | For he promised unto them that he would preserve these things for a wise purpose in him, that he might show forth his power unto future generations. |
| 앨 37:19 | 또 이제 보라, 한 가지 목적을 그가 이루셨으니, 그 결과 수천의 레이맨인들이 진리의 지식에로 회복되었느니라. 또 그가 이것들로 그의 권능을 나타내 보이셨으니, 그가 또한 이것들로 장래 세대에게 여전히 그의 권능을 나타내 보이시리라. 그러므로 이것들은 보존될 것이니라. | And now behold, one purpose hath he fulfilled, even to the restoration of many thousands of the Lamanites to the knowledge of the truth; and he hath shown forth his power in them, and he will also still show forth his power in them unto future generations; therefore they shall be preserved. |
| 앨 37:20 | 그러므로 내가 네게 명하노니, 내 아들 힐라맨아, 너는 내 말을 다 이루기에 부지런할지며, 또 너는 기록된 대로 하나님의 계명을 지키기에 부지런하라. | Therefore I command you, my son Helaman, that ye be diligent in fulfilling all my words, and that ye be diligent in keeping the commandments of God as they are written. |
| 앨 37:21 | 그리고 이제 내가 저 스물넉 장의 판에 관하여 네게 말하리니, 너는 그 판들을 간수하라. 그리하여 비밀과 어둠의 일과 그들의 은밀한 일들 곧 멸망당한 저 백성의 은밀한 일들이 이 백성에게 밝혀지게 하라. 참으로 그들의 모든 살인과 강탈함과 그들의 약탈함과 그들의 모든 간악함과 가증함이 이 백성에게 밝혀지게 할지며, 또한 너는 이 해석기들을 보전하라. | And now, I will speak unto you concerning those twenty-four plates, that ye keep them, that the mysteries and the works of darkness, and their secret works, or the secret works of those people who have been destroyed, may be made manifest unto this people; yea, all their murders, and robbings, and their plunderings, and all their wickedness and abominations, may be made manifest unto this people; yea, and that ye preserve these interpreters. |
| 앨 37:22 | 이는 보라, 주께서 그 백성이 암흑 가운데서 일하기 시작한 것을, 참으로 은밀한 살인과 가증함을 행하기 시작한 것을 보셨음이니, 그러므로 주께서 이르시되, 만일 그들이 회개하지 아니하면 그들은 지면에서 멸망당하리라 하셨느니라. | For behold, the Lord saw that his people began to work in darkness, yea, work secret murders and abominations; therefore the Lord said, if they did not repent they should be destroyed from off the face of the earth. |
| 앨 37:23 | 또 주께서 이르시되, 내가 내 종 게이젤렘에게, 어둠 속에서 빛으로 비출 돌 하나를 예비해 주어, 나를 섬기는 내 백성에게 드러내되, 그들에게 그 형제들의 행위, 곧 그들의 은밀한 일과 그들의 어둠의 일과 그들의 간악함과 가증한 일들을 드러내리라 하셨느니라. | And the Lord said: I will prepare unto my servant Gazelem, a stone, which shall shine forth in darkness unto light, that I may discover unto my people who serve me, that I may discover unto them the works of their brethren, yea, their secret works, their works of darkness, and their wickedness and abominations. |
| 앨 37:24 | 또 이제 내 아들아, 이 해석기들은 하나님의 말씀이 이루어지게 하려고 예비된 것이니라, 곧 그가 하신 말씀이니 이르시되, | And now, my son, these interpreters were prepared that the word of God might be fulfilled, which he spake, saying: |
| 앨 37:25 | 내가 그들의 은밀한 일과 그들의 가증한 일들을 다 어둠에서 빛 가운데로 드러낼 것이며, 또 그들이 회개하지 아니할진대 그들을 지면에서 멸망시킬 것이며, 또 그들의 은밀함과 가증함을 이후에 이 땅을 소유할 모든 국민에게 다 드러내리라 하셨느니라. |
I will bring forth out of darkness unto light all their secret works and their abominations; and except they repent I will destroy them from off the face of the earth; and I will bring to light all their secrets and abominations, unto every nation that shall hereafter possess the land. |
| 앨 37:26 | 그리고 이제 내 아들아, 우리가 알거니와 그들은 회개하지 아니하였도다. 그러므로 그들이 멸망당하였고, 지금까지 하나님의 말씀은 이루어졌나니, 참으로 그들의 은밀한 가증함이 어둠에서 드러나 우리에게 알려졌느니라. | And now, my son, we see that they did not repent; therefore they have been destroyed, and thus far the word of God has been fulfilled; yea, their secret abominations have been brought out of darkness and made known unto us. |
| 앨 37:27 | 또 이제 내 아들아, 내가 네게 명하노니 너는 그들이 은밀한 가증함으로 행한 그들의 맹세와 그들의 언약과 그들의 맹약을 모두 간직하고 또한 그들의 표적과 그들의 기사를 모두 너는 이 백성에게 알리지 말아서, 저들로 이를 알지 못하게 하라. 두렵건대 혹시라도 저들 역시 어둠에 떨어져 멸망당할까 하노라. | And now, my son, I command you that ye retain all their oaths, and their covenants, and their agreements in their secret abominations; yea, and all their signs and their wonders ye shall keep from this people, that they know them not, lest peradventure they should fall into darkness also and be destroyed. |
| 앨 37:28 | 이는 보라, 이 온 땅에 저주가 있어, 저 모든 어둠의 일꾼들에게 하나님의 권능을 좇아 멸망이 임할 것임이니, 곧 그들이 온전히 무르익을 때에니라. 그러므로 나는 이 백성이 멸망당하지 않기를 바라노라. | For behold, there is a curse upon all this land, that destruction shall come upon all those workers of darkness, according to the power of God, when they are fully ripe; therefore I desire that this people might not be destroyed. |
| 앨 37:29 | 그러므로 너는 그들의 맹세와 그들의 언약의 이 은밀한 계획을 이 백성에게 알리지 말고, 다만 그들의 간악함과 그들의 살인과 그들의 가증함만을 너는 저들에게 알릴지며, 또 너는 그 같은 간악함과 가증함과 살인을 극히 꺼리도록 저들을 가르칠지며, 또 너는 저들에게 이 백성들이 자기들의 사악함과 가증한 일과 살인의 연고로 멸망당했음을 또한 가르칠지니라. | Therefore ye shall keep these secret plans of their oaths and their covenants from this people, and only their wickedness and their murders and their abominations shall ye make known unto them; and ye shall teach them to abhor such wickedness and abominations and murders; and ye shall also teach them that these people were destroyed on account of their wickedness and abominations and their murders. |
| 앨 37:30 | 이는 보라, 그들은 그들의 죄악에 대하여 그들에게 선포하러 그들 가운데 왔던 주의 선지자들을 모두 살해하였고, 이에 그들이 살해한 선지자들의 피가 그 살해자인 그들 위에 복수가 임할 것을 주 저희 하나님께 부르짖었으며, 그리하여 하나님의 심판이 이 어둠과 비밀 결사의 일꾼들 위에 임하였음이니라. | For behold, they murdered all the prophets of the Lord who came among them to declare unto them concerning their iniquities; and the blood of those whom they murdered did cry unto the Lord their God for vengeance upon those who were their murderers; and thus the judgments of God did come upon these workers of darkness and secret combinations. |
| 앨 37:31 | 참으로 그뿐 아니라 이 땅은 어둠과 비밀 결사의 일꾼들에게는 영원히 저주받은 바 될지니, 그들이 온전히 무르익기 전에 회개하지 아니할진대 멸망당하기에 이르리라. | Yea, and cursed be the land forever and ever unto those workers of darkness and secret combinations, even unto destruction, except they repent before they are fully ripe. |
| 앨 37:32 | 또 이제 내 아들아, 내가 네게 이른 말을 기억하라. 저 은밀한 계획을 이 백성에게 맡기지 말고, 그들에게 죄와 불의에 대한 영원한 증오를 가르치라. | And now, my son, remember the words which I have spoken unto you; trust not those secret plans unto this people, but teach them an everlasting hatred against sin and iniquity. |
| 앨 37:33 | 그들에게 회개와, 주 예수 그리스도를 믿는 신앙을 전파하라. 그들을 가르쳐 스스로 겸손하게 하고 온유하고 마음이 겸손하게 하라. 그들을 가르쳐 주 예수 그리스도를 믿는 그들의 신앙으로, 악마의 모든 유혹을 이겨내게 하라. | Preach unto them repentance, and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ; teach them to humble themselves and to be meek and lowly in heart; teach them to withstand every temptation of the devil, with their faith on the Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 앨 37:34 | 그들을 가르쳐 선한 일에 결코 지치지 말게 하고, 다만 온유하고 마음이 겸손하게 하라. 이는 그러한 자라야 자기 영혼에 안식을 찾을 것임이니라. | Teach them to never be weary of good works, but to be meek and lowly in heart; for such shall find rest to their souls. |
| 앨 37:35 | 오 기억하라, 내 아들아, 그리하여 네가 젊었을 때에 지혜를 배우라. 참으로 네가 젊었을 때에 하나님 계명 지키기를 배우라. |
O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God. |
| 앨 37:36 | 참으로 또한 하나님께 부르짖어 네 모든 도움을 구하라. 참으로 네 모든 행위로 주께 드리는 것이 되게 하고, 네가 어디로 가든지 주 안에서 행하도록 하라. 참으로 네 모든 생각으로 주를 향하게 하라. 참으로 네 마음의 사랑을 영원히 주께 두도록 하라. | Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever. |
| 앨 37:37 | 너의 행하는 모든 일을 주와 의논하라. 그리하면 그가 너를 유익하도록 지도하시리라. 참으로 네가 밤에 누울 때 주께로 누워, 그로 네가 자는 동안 너를 지키시게 하고, 네가 아침에 일어날 때에는 하나님께 드리는 감사로 네 마음이 가득 차게 하라. 이렇게 하면 마지막 날에 네가 들리움을 받으리라. | Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day. |
| 앨 37:38 | 그리고 이제 내 아들아, 우리 조상들이 공, 곧 지시기라 칭한 것 - 즉 우리 조상들이 그것을 리아호나라 하였나니, 이는 해석한즉, 나침반이요, 주께서 예비하셨던 것이라 - 에 관하여 내가 얼마간 말할 것이 있느니라. | And now, my son, I have somewhat to say concerning the thing which our fathers call a ball, or director—or our fathers called it Liahona, which is, being interpreted, a compass; and the Lord prepared it. |
| 앨 37:39 | 보라, 그처럼 신묘한 솜씨로 만들 수 있는 사람은 아무도 없느니라. 또 보라, 그것은 우리 조상들에게 그들이 광야에서 여행할 진로를 보여 주기 위해 예비되었더라. | And behold, there cannot any man work after the manner of so curious a workmanship. And behold, it was prepared to show unto our fathers the course which they should travel in the wilderness. |
| 앨 37:40 | 또 그것은 하나님을 믿는 그들의 신앙에 따라 그들을 위해 작동하였나니, 그러므로 그들에게 하나님께서 그 지침들로 하여금 그들이 가야할 길을 가리키게 하실 수 있다는 신앙이 있으면, 보라 그렇게 되었느니라. 그리하여 그들에게는 날마다 이 기적과 또한 하나님의 권능으로 이루어지는 다른 많은 기적들이 있었더라. | And it did work for them according to their faith in God; therefore, if they had faith to believe that God could cause that those spindles should point the way they should go, behold, it was done; therefore they had this miracle, and also many other miracles wrought by the power of God, day by day. |
| 앨 37:41 | 그러할지라도 그 기적들이 작은 방편으로 이루어지는고로 그것이 그들에게 기이한 일을 보였으며, 그들이 게으르고 그들의 신앙과 부지런함을 행할 것을 잊으매 그 기이한 일이 그치고, 그들은 그들의 여행에서 더 나아가지 못하였더라. | Nevertheless, because those miracles were worked by small means it did show unto them marvelous works. They were slothful, and forgot to exercise their faith and diligence and then those marvelous works ceased, and they did not progress in their journey; |
| 앨 37:42 | 그리하여 그들은 광야에서 머물렀으니, 곧 다시 말해 곧바른 진로로 여행하지 못하였고, 그들의 범법으로 인하여 굶주림과 목마름으로 고난을 받았느니라. | Therefore, they tarried in the wilderness, or did not travel a direct course, and were afflicted with hunger and thirst, because of their transgressions. |
| 앨 37:43 | 또 이제 내 아들아, 나는 이러한 일들이 그림자가 없지 아니함을 네가 깨닫기 바라노니, 이는 우리 조상들이 이 나침반에 주의를 기울일 것을 게을리 한즉 (이제 이러한 일은 현세적인 것이라) 그들이 형통하지 못한 것같이, 영적인 일도 그러함이니라. | And now, my son, I would that ye should understand that these things are not without a shadow; for as our fathers were slothful to give heed to this compass (now these things were temporal) they did not prosper; even so it is with things which are spiritual. |
| 앨 37:44 | 이는 보라, 영원한 행복에 이르는 곧바른 진로를 네게 가리켜 줄 그리스도의 말씀에 주의를 기울이는 일은, 우리 조상들이 약속의 땅에 이르는 곧바른 진로를 그들에게 가리켜 준 나침반에 주의를 기울이는 일 만큼이나 쉬움이니라. | For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land. |

For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise. |

O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever. |
| 앨 37:47 | 또 이제 내 아들아, 주의하여 너는 이 거룩한 것들을 간수하라. 참으로 주의하여 하나님을 바라보고 살도록 하라. 이 백성에게 가서 말씀을 선포하라. 또 진지하여라. 내 아들아, 잘 있으라. | And now, my son, see that ye take care of these sacred things, yea, see that ye look to God and live. Go unto this people and declare the word, and be sober. My son, farewell. |
