소개 시블론은 의를 위하여 핍박을 받았음 - 구원은 세상의 생명이요 빛이신 그리스도 안에 있음 - 네 모든 격정을 굴레 씌우라. 주전 74년경. Shiblon was persecuted for righteousness’ sake—Salvation is in Christ, who is the life and the light of the world—Bridle all your passions. [About 73 B.C.]
앨 38:1 내 아들아, 내 말에 귀를 기울이라. 이는 내가 힐라맨에게 일렀던 것같이 네게도 이름이니, 네가 하나님의 계명을 지킬진대 네가 이 땅에서 번성할 것이요, 네가 하나님의 계명을 지키지 않을진대 네가 하나님의 면전에서 끊어지게 될 것임이니라.

My son, give ear to my words, for I say unto you, even as I said unto Helaman, that inasmuch as ye shall keep the commandments of God ye shall prosper in the land; and inasmuch as ye will not keep the commandments of God ye shall be cut off from his presence.
앨 38:2 그리고 이제 내 아들아, 너의 굳건함과 하나님께 대한 너의 충실함으로 인하여, 내가 네게서 큰 기쁨을 얻을 줄로 믿노니, 이는 네가 젊었을 때 주 네 하나님을 바라보기 시작한 것같이, 참으로 그와 같이 네가 그의 계명 지키기를 계속할 것을 내가 바람이라. 이는 끝까지 견디는 자가 복이 있음이니라. And now, my son, I trust that I shall have great joy in you, because of your steadiness and your faithfulness unto God; for as you have commenced in your youth to look to the Lord your God, even so I hope that you will continue in keeping his commandments; for blessed is he that endureth to the end.
앨 38:3 내 아들아, 내가 네게 이르노니, 나는 조램인 백성들 가운데서 보인 너의 충실함과 너의 부지런함과 너의 인내와 너의 오래 참음으로 인하여 이미 네게서 큰 기쁨을 얻었느니라.

I say unto you, my son, that I have had great joy in thee already, because of thy faithfulness and thy diligence, and thy patience and thy long-suffering among the people of the Zoramites.
앨 38:4 이는 네가 결박되어 있던 일을 내가 앎이요, 그뿐 아니라 네가 말씀을 위하여 돌로 맞은 일 또한 내가 앎이라. 네가 또 이 모든 일을 인내로 참았음은 주께서 너와 함께 하신 연고니, 이제 너는 주께서 너를 건지신 줄을 아느니라. For I know that thou wast in bonds; yea, and I also know that thou wast stoned for the word’s sake; and thou didst bear all these things with patience because the Lord was with thee; and now thou knowest that the Lord did deliver thee.
앨 38:5 또 이제 내 아들 시블론아, 나는 네가 하나님을 신뢰하는 만큼 네가 네 시험과 네 곤경과 네 고난에서 건져 내심을 입을 것이요, 마지막 날에 네가 들리움을 받게 되리라는 것을 기억하기 바라노라. And now my son, Shiblon, I would that ye should remember, that as much as ye shall put your trust in God even so much ye shall be delivered out of your trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and ye shall be lifted up at the last day.
앨 38:6 이제 내 아들아, 나는 내가 내 스스로로 말미암아 이러한 것을 안다고 네가 생각하기를 원하지 아니하노니, 내게 이러한 일을 알게 하는 것은 내 안에 있는 하나님의 영이니라. 이는 만일 내가 하나님에게서 나지 아니하였더라면 내가 이러한 것을 알지 못하였을 것임이니라. Now, my son, I would not that ye should think that I know these things of myself, but it is the Spirit of God which is in me which maketh these things known unto me; for if I had not been born of God I should not have known these things.
앨 38:7 그러나 보라, 주께서는 그의 크신 자비 가운데 그의 천사를 보내사 내가 그의 백성 가운데서 멸망의 일을 멈추어야 할 것을 내게 선포하게 하셨나니, 과연 내가 한 천사를 대면하여 보았고, 그가 나와 말한즉, 그의 음성이 우레와 같았으며, 그 음성은 온 땅을 흔들었느니라. But behold, the Lord in his great mercy sent his angel to declare unto me that I must stop the work of destruction among his people; yea, and I have seen an angel face to face, and he spake with me, and his voice was as thunder, and it shook the whole earth.
앨 38:8 이에 이렇게 되었나니 내가 사흘 낮과 사흘 밤을 지독히 쓴 영혼의 고통과 고뇌 속에 있었고, 결코 주 예수 그리스도께 부르짖어 자비를 구할 때까지, 내가 내 죄 사함을 얻지 못하였느니라. 그러나 보라 내가 그에게 부르짖었고 내 영혼에 평안을 찾았느니라. And it came to pass that I was three days and three nights in the most bitter pain and anguish of soul; and never, until I did cry out unto the Lord Jesus Christ for mercy, did I receive a remission of my sins. But behold, I did cry unto him and I did find peace to my soul.
앨 38:9 또 이제 내 아들아, 내가 이를 네게 이른 것은 너로 지혜를 배우게 하려 함이니, 너로 사람이 구원받을 수 있는 길이나 방편이 달리 없고, 다만 그리스도 안에서와 그리스도를 통해서일 뿐임을 내게서 배우게 하려 함이니라. 보라, 그는 세상의 생명이요 빛이시니라. 보라, 그는 진리와 의의 말씀이시니라. And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.
앨 38:10 또 이제 네가 말씀을 가르치기 시작한 것같이 나는 네가 가르치기를 계속하기 바라노라. 또 나는 네가 범사에 부지런하고 절제하기를 바라노라. And now, as ye have begun to teach the word even so I would that ye should continue to teach; and I would that ye would be diligent and temperate in all things.
앨 38:11 주의하여 네가 자고함으로 교만에 이르지 않도록 하라. 참으로 주의하여 네 스스로의 지혜나, 네 많은 힘을 자랑하지 말라. See that ye are not lifted up unto pride; yea, see that ye do not boast in your own wisdom, nor of your much strength.
앨 38:12 담대하되, 지나쳐 위압하지 말고, 또한 주의하여 네 모든 격정을 굴레 씌워, 네가 사랑으로 충만하게 되도록 하라. 주의하여 게으름을 삼가라. Use boldness, but not overbearance; and also see that ye bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love; see that ye refrain from idleness.
앨 38:13 조램인들이 하듯 기도하지 말라. 이는 그들이 사람들에게 들리게 하려고, 또 자기의 지혜를 칭찬받기 위하여 기도함을 네가 보았음이니라.

Do not pray as the Zoramites do, for ye have seen that they pray to be heard of men, and to be praised for their wisdom.
앨 38:14 하나님이시여, 우리가 우리 형제들보다 나음을 감사하나이다 라고 말하지 말고, 도리어 주여 나의 합당하지 못함을 용서하시옵고, 자비하신 가운데 내 형제들을 기억하시옵소서 라고 말하라 - 참으로 하나님 앞에서 너의 합당하지 못함을 늘 인정하라.

Do not say: O God, I thank thee that we are better than our brethren; but rather say: O Lord, forgive my unworthiness, and remember my brethren in mercy—yea, acknowledge your unworthiness before God at all times.
앨 38:15 그리고 주께서 네 영혼에 복을 주시고, 마지막 날에 너를 영접하사 그의 나라에 들이시고 평안히 앉게 하시기를 비노라. 내 아들아, 이제 가라, 가서 이 백성에게 말씀을 가르치라. 진지하여라. 내 아들아, 잘 있으라. And may the Lord bless your soul, and receive you at the last day into his kingdom, to sit down in peace. Now go, my son, and teach the word unto this people. Be sober. My son, farewell.
