Therefore, there was no chance for the robbers to plunder and to obtain food, save it were to come up in open battle against the Nephites; and the Nephites being in one body, and having so great a number, and having reserved for themselves provisions, and horses and cattle, and flocks of every kind, that they might subsist for the space of seven years, in the which time they did hope to destroy the robbers from off the face of the land; and thus the eighteenth year did pass away. | 4:4.그러므로 도적단은 나아가 니파이인들을 대적하여 싸움을 일으키지 않고서는 먹을 양식을 약탈할 길조차 없었고, 니파이인들은 한 덩어리로 뭉쳐진 위에 그 수효가 대단하였고 또한 준비된 식량과 말과 소와 온갖 가축이 능히 칠년을 지낼만 하였으며, 그 칠년간에 도적의 무리를 지상에서 완전히 멸하려 하였더라. 주후 십팔년이 이같이 지나더라. |

And it came to pass that they did come up to battle; and it was in the sixth month; and behold, great and terrible was the day that they did come up to battle; and they were girded about after the manner of robbers; and they had a lamb-skin about their loins, and they were dyed in blood, and their heads were shorn, and they had head-plates upon them; and great and terrible was the appearance of the armies of Giddianhi, because of their armor, and because of their being dyed in blood. | 4:7.그리하여 유월에 저들이 싸우러 나아왔으니, 보라 저들이 싸움을 일으킨 날은 크고 두려운 날이었더라. 저들은 도적단의 차림을 하였고, 피로 물들인 양가죽을 허리에 둘렀으며 머리는 삭발을 하고 그 위에 투구를 썼으며, 모든 것을 피로 물들인지라. 긷이안하이 군졸들의 형상이 심히 끔찍하더라. |

But in this thing they were disappointed, for the Nephites did not fear them; but they did fear their God and did supplicate him for protection; therefore, when the armies of Giddianhi did rush upon them they were prepared to meet them; yea, in the strength of the Lord they did receive them. | 4:10.이는 잘못 생각한 것이었더라. 니파이인들이 도적단을 두려워한 것이 아니요, 저들의 하나님을 경외하여 하나님의 보호를 빌었던 것이라. 그러므로 긷디안하이 군대가 덤벼들었을 때에는 니파이인들은 이미 주의 힘을 입어 적을 맞아 싸울 차비가 갖추어졌더라. |

And the battle commenced in this the sixth month; and great and terrible was the battle thereof, yea, great and terrible was the slaughter thereof, insomuch that there never was known so great a slaughter among all the people of Lehi since he left Jerusalem. | 4:11.유월에 시작된 이 싸움이 극히 치열하고 참담하여, 리하이가 예루살렘을 떠난 이래로 이토록 무서운 살륙을 그 자손들이 겪어보지 못하였고, |

And it came to pass that Gidgiddoni commanded that his armies should pursue them as far as the borders of the wilderness, and that they should not spare any that should fall into their hands by the way; and thus they did pursue them and did slay them, to the borders of the wilderness, even until they had fulfilled the commandment of Gidgiddoni. | 4:13.기드기드도나이는 그의 군사들에게 명하여, 멀리 광야 변방까지 적을 쫓게 하였고 잡히는 적을 모두 죽이라 하였으매, 저들이 적을 멀리 광야 변방까지 추격하여 기드기드도나이가 이른 대로 행하였고, |

And it came to pass that Giddianhi, who had stood and fought with boldness, was pursued as he fled; and being weary because of his much fighting he was overtaken and slain. And thus was the end of Giddianhi the robber. | 4:14.담대하게 마주서서 대항하여 싸우던 긷디안하이는 심한 격전에 지쳐 쫓기다가 잡혀 죽임을 당하였으니, 긷디안하이의 마지막이 이러하였으며, |

And it came to pass that the armies of the Nephites did return again to their place of security. And it came to pass that this nineteenth year did pass away, and the robbers did not come again to battle; neither did they come again in the twentieth year. | 4:15.니파이 군대는 다시 안전한 저들의 처소로 돌아 왔고, 십 구년째가 지나도록 도적단은 다시 침입하여 오지 아니하였으며, 이십년에도 쳐들어 오지 아니하였더라. |

And in the twenty and first year they did not come up to battle, but they came up on all sides to lay siege round about the people of Nephi; for they did suppose that if they should cut off the people of Nephi from their lands, and should hem them in on every side, and if they should cut them off from all their outward privileges, that they could cause them to yield themselves up according to their wishes. | 4:16.주후 이십 일년에 이르러 도적의 무리는 정면에서 싸움을 돋구지는 아니하였으나 사면으로 니파이인들을 포위하고서, 들판으로 연결하는 길을 차단하여 일체 외부의 통행과 연락을 끊어 고립시키면 저들이 원하는 대로 니파이인들을 항복시킬 수 있으리라 생각하였고, |

Now they had appointed unto themselves another leader, whose name was Zemnarihah; therefore it was Zemnarihah that did cause that this siege should take place. | 4:17.젬나라이하라 하는 자를 저들의 수령으로 삼았으니, 니파이인들을 둘러싸게 한것도 젬나라이하의 복안이었더라. |

And it came to pass that the wild game became scarce in the wilderness insomuch that the robbers were about to perish with hunger. | 4:20.또한 광야의 들 짐승조차 희소하여져서, 도적단의 무리는 거의 아사의 지경에 이르렀는데, |

And the Nephites were continually marching out by day and by night, and falling upon their armies, and cutting them off by thousands and by tens of thousands. | 4:21.니파이인들은 밤낮을 가리지 않고 끊임없이 진격해 와서는 도적의 무리를 무찔러 수천 수만을 베었음에, |

And thus it became the desire of the people of Zemnarihah to withdraw from their design, because of the great destruction which came upon them by night and by day. | 4:22.주야로 대패를 당하게 된 젬나라이하의 군사들은 뜻을 거두고 퇴각하기를 원하였던지라, |

And it came to pass that Zemnarihah did give command unto his people that they should withdraw themselves from the siege, and march into the furthermost parts of the land northward. | 4:23.젬나라이하는 그 무리에게 명하여 포위를 풀고 멀리 북방으로 진군하게 하였느니라. |

And now, Gidgiddoni being aware of their design, and knowing of their weakness because of the want of food, and the great slaughter which had been made among them, therefore he did send out his armies in the night-time, and did cut off the way of their retreat, and did place his armies in the way of their retreat. | 4:24.이때에 기드기드도나이는, 식량 부족으로 인하여 약화되고 크게 살륙을 당하여 힘을 잃은 도적의 무리의 동태를 미리 알았던지라, 밤을 타서 그의 군사들을 보내어 저들의 퇴각하는 길을 끊게 하고 그곳에 군사를 배치하였으니, |

And this did they do in the night-time, and got on their march beyond the robbers, so that on the morrow, when the robbers began their march, they were met by the armies of the Nephites both in their front and in their rear. | 4:25.밤을 타서 도적단의 진군을 앞질러 이같이 행한지라, 다음날 도적단이 진군함에 앞뒤로 니파이인들의 협공을 받았고, |

And their leader, Zemnarihah, was taken and hanged upon a tree, yea, even upon the top thereof until he was dead. May the Lord preserve his people in righteousness and in holiness of heart, that they may cause to be felled to the earth all who shall seek to slay them because of power and secret combinations, even as this man hath been felled to the earth. | 4:29.주여 당신의 백성들이 마음에 의로움과 성결함을 지니게 하시어, 이제 이 백성들이 이 자를 땅에 쓰러뜨림같이, 권력과 비밀 결사로써 백성들을 해치려 하는 자들을 모두 땅에 쓰러뜨릴 수 있게 하여 주시옵소서. |

| 3니 4:31 | 또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 다 하나가 되어 노래하며, 그들의 하나님이 그들을 위하여 행하신 큰 일, 곧 그들을 보전하사 그들의 원수의 손에 빠지지 않게 하신 것으로 인하여 그들의 하나님을 찬양하였더라. |

And it came to pass that they did break forth, all as one, in singing, and praising their God for the great thing which he had done for them, in preserving them from falling into the hands of their enemies. | 4:31.다 함께 소리쳐, 큰 은혜를 베푸사 저들을 보호하시어 적의 손에 떨어지지 않게 하신 저들의 하나님을 노래하며 찬양하였고, |
| 3니 4:32 | 참으로 그들이 외치기를, 지극히 높으신 하나님께 호산나 하고, 또 외치기를, 주 하나님 곧 전능하신 자, 지극히 높으신 하나님의 이름에 복이 있을 지로다 하였더라. |

Yea, they did cry: Hosanna to the Most High God. And they did cry: Blessed be the name of the Lord God Almighty, the Most High God. | 4:32.고함쳐 부르짖기를, 지극히 높으신 하나님께 호산나로다 하고, 또 부르짖기를, 전능하신 주 하나님, 지극히 높으신 하나님의 이름이 복되도다 하니라. |
| 3니 4:33 | 또 그들을 그들의 원수의 손에서 건져 내신 하나님의 크신 선하심으로 인하여 그들의 마음이 기쁨으로 벅차 많은 눈물을 흘렸으며, 또 그들이 영원한 멸망에서 건지심을 입은 것은 그들의 회개와 그들의 겸손함으로 인한 것이었음을 알았더라. |

And their hearts were swollen with joy, unto the gushing out of many tears, because of the great goodness of God in delivering them out of the hands of their enemies; and they knew it was because of their repentance and their humility that they had been delivered from an everlasting destruction. | 4:33.백성들의 마음이 기쁨으로 부풀어, 저들을 적의 손에서 구해 주신 하나님의 선하심을 생각하며 많은 눈물을 흘렸고, 저들이 회개하고 겸손하여졌으므로 영원한 멸망을 모면하였음을 깨달아 알았느니라. |
