3니 4:1	그리고 이렇게 되었나니 제십팔년 말미에 저 도적들의 군대가 전쟁을 예비하고 작은 산들로부터 또 산들과 광야와 그들의 요새와 그들의 은신처에서 내려오며 진격해 나오기 시작하여 남쪽 땅과 북쪽 땅에 있는 땅들을 점령하기 시작하였고, 니파이인들이 버린 모든 땅과 황폐한 채 버린 바 된 성읍들을 점령하기 시작하니라.	And it came to pass that in the latter end of the eighteenth year those armies of robbers had prepared for battle, and began to come down and to sally forth from the hills, and out of the mountains, and the wilderness, and their strongholds, and their secret places, and began to take possession of the lands, both which were in the land south and which were in the land north, and began to take possession of all the lands which had been deserted by the Nephites, and the cities which had been left desolate.
3니 4:2	그러나 보라, 니파이인들이 버린 그 땅에는 들짐승이나 사냥할 만한 것이 없었으니, 광야를 제외하고는 도적들이 사냥할 만한 것이 하나도 없었더라.	But behold, there were no wild beasts nor game in those lands which had been deserted by the Nephites, and there was no game for the robbers save it were in the wilderness.
3니 4:3	이에 도적들은 양식이 결핍하여, 광야에서가 아니면 생존할 수가 없었으니, 이는 니파이인들이 그들의 땅을 황폐하게 버려두고, 그들의 양 떼와 그들의 소 떼와 그들의 모든 소유를 모으고, 한 무리가 되어 있었음이라.	And the robbers could not exist save it were in the wilderness, for the want of food; for the Nephites had left their lands desolate, and had gathered their flocks and their herds and all their substance, and they were in one body.

3니 4:5	또 이렇게 되었나니 제십구년에 긷디안하이는 니파이인들을 치러 올라갈 필요가 있음을 깨달았나니, 이는 약탈하고 빼앗고 살인하는 것 외에는 그들이 살아갈 수 있는 방도가 없었음이라.	And it came to pass that in the nineteenth year Giddianhi found that it was expedient that he should go up to battle against the Nephites, for there was no way that they could subsist save it were to plunder and rob and murder.
3니 4:6	또 그들은 니파이인들이 그들에게 임하여 그들을 도륙할까 두려워하여, 곡식을 재배할 수 있을 만큼 지면에 감히 퍼지지도 못하였나니, 이러므로 긷디안하이는 자기 군대에게 명령을 내려 이 해에 니파이인들을 치러 올라가게 하였더라.	And they durst not spread themselves upon the face of the land insomuch that they could raise grain, lest the Nephites should come upon them and slay them; therefore Giddianhi gave commandment unto his armies that in this year they should go up to battle against the Nephites.

3니 4:8	이에 이렇게 되었나니 니파이인들의 군대가 긷디안하이의 군대의 모양을 보고, 다 땅에 엎드려, 그들을 살려 주시고 그들을 그 원수의 손에서 건져 내실 것을 주 그들 하나님께 부르짖었더라.	And it came to pass that the armies of the Nephites, when they saw the appearance of the army of Giddianhi, had all fallen to the earth, and did lift their cries to the Lord their God, that he would spare them and deliver them out of the hands of their enemies.
3니 4:9	이에 이렇게 되었나니 긷디안하이의 군대가 이것을 보고 기뻐서 함성을 외치기 시작하였으니, 이는 저들이 생각하기를 니파이인들이 저들의 군대의 무서움으로 인하여 두려움으로 엎드러졌다 하였음이라.	And it came to pass that when the armies of Giddianhi saw this they began to shout with a loud voice, because of their joy, for they had supposed that the Nephites had fallen with fear because of the terror of their armies.
3니 4:10	그러나 이 일에 저들이 실망하였으니, 이는 니파이인들은 저들을 두려워한 것이 아니요 그들의 하나님을 경외하여 그에게 보호를 간구하였던 것임이라. 그러므로 긷디안하이의 군대가 그들에게 달려들었을 때, 그들은 저들을 맞을 준비가 되어 있었나니, 참으로 그들은 주의 힘을 입고서 저들을 맞이하였더라. 3니 4:11	이에 이 유월에 싸움이 시작되었고, 그 싸움은 실로 크고 두려웠나니, 참으로 그 살육이 실로 크고 두려워, 리하이가 예루살렘을 떠난 때로부터 리하이의 온 백성 가운데 그처럼 큰 살육이 결코 있지 아니하였더라.	And the battle commenced in this the sixth month; and great and terrible was the battle thereof, yea, great and terrible was the slaughter thereof, insomuch that there never was known so great a slaughter among all the people of Lehi since he left Jerusalem.
3니 4:12	또 긷디안하이가 행한 위협과 맹세에도 불구하고, 보라, 니파이인들이 저들을 쳐서 패하게 하매, 저들이 니파이인들 앞에서 후퇴하였는지라.	And notwithstanding the threatenings and the oaths which Giddianhi had made, behold, the Nephites did beat them, insomuch that they did fall back from before them.
3니 4:13	이에 이렇게 되었나니 기드긷도나이가 자기의 군대에게 명하여 멀리 광야의 변경까지 저들을 추격하게 하고, 도중에 저들의 수중에 드는 자를 하나도 살려 두지 말게 하매, 이에 그들이 광야의 변경까지 저들을 추격하며 저들을 도륙하였으니, 곧 기드긷도나이의 명령을 다 이루기까지 그리하였더라.	And it came to pass that Gidgiddoni commanded that his armies should pursue them as far as the borders of the wilderness, and that they should not spare any that should fall into their hands by the way; and thus they did pursue them and did slay them, to the borders of the wilderness, even until they had fulfilled the commandment of Gidgiddoni.
3니 4:14	또 이렇게 되었나니 담대히 서서 싸우던 긷디안하이는, 추격을 받으며 도망하다가 많이 싸웠음으로 인하여 지쳐 붙잡혀 죽임을 당하였더라. 이에 도적 긷디안하이의 마지막이 이러하였더라.	And it came to pass that Giddianhi, who had stood and fought with boldness, was pursued as he fled; and being weary because of his much fighting he was overtaken and slain. And thus was the end of Giddianhi the robber.
3니 4:15	이에 이렇게 되었나니 니파이인들의 군대는 그들의 안전한 장소로 되돌아왔더라. 또 이렇게 되었나니 이 제십구년이 지나갔고, 도적들은 싸우러 다시 오지 아니하였으며, 제이십년에도 다시 오지 아니하였더라.	And it came to pass that the armies of the Nephites did return again to their place of security. And it came to pass that this nineteenth year did pass away, and the robbers did not come again to battle; neither did they come again in the twentieth year.
3니 4:16	그리고 제이십일년에 저들이 싸우러 올라오지는 아니하였으나, 니파이 백성을 사면으로 포위하고자 사방으로 올라왔으니, 이는 저들 생각에 저들이 만일 니파이 백성을 그들의 땅으로부터 차단하고 그들을 사방으로 에워싸면, 또 만일 그들을 그들의 모든 외부의 이점으로부터 차단한다면 저들의 원대로 그들을 항복시킬 수 있으리라 하였음이라.	And in the twenty and first year they did not come up to battle, but they came up on all sides to lay siege round about the people of Nephi; for they did suppose that if they should cut off the people of Nephi from their lands, and should hem them in on every side, and if they should cut them off from all their outward privileges, that they could cause them to yield themselves up according to their wishes.
3니 4:17	이제 저들은 자신들을 위하여 다른 지도자를 임명하였으니, 그의 이름은 젬나라이하더라. 그러므로 이 포위를 행하게 한 것은 바로 젬나라이하이었더라.	Now they had appointed unto themselves another leader, whose name was Zemnarihah; therefore it was Zemnarihah that did cause that this siege should take place.
3니 4:18	그러나 보라, 이것은 니파이인들에게 유리한 것이었나니, 이는 니파이인들이 그 비축해 둔 식량이 많았던지라, 도적들로서는 니파이인들에게 조금이라도 영향을 미칠 만큼 오래 포위하는 일이 불가능하였음이라.	But behold, this was an advantage to the Nephites; for it was impossible for the robbers to lay siege sufficiently long to have any effect upon the Nephites, because of their much provision which they had laid up in store,	주) 풍족한 군량이 창고에 쌓이기 위해서는 번영과 풍년의 세월이 있었으리라. 말일에도 환란의 시기가 닥치기 전에 번영과 평화의 시기가 있을 것이다. 이 때에 준비하지 않는 자는 멸망당하게 되리라.
3니 4:19	또 도적들 중에는 식량이 부족하였음이니, 보라, 그들은 광야에서 얻은 고기, 곧 그들이 연명할 고기 이외에는 아무것도 없었더라.	And because of the scantiness of provisions among the robbers; for behold, they had nothing save it were meat for their subsistence, which meat they did obtain in the wilderness;
3니 4:20	또 이렇게 되었나니 광야에서 사냥할 들짐승이 희소하여지매 도적들은 바야흐로 주려 죽을 지경에 이르렀더라.	And it came to pass that the wild game became scarce in the wilderness insomuch that the robbers were about to perish with hunger.
3니 4:21	또 니파이인들은 밤낮으로 끊임없이 진군해 나가서, 그들의 적을 엄습하여 수천씩 수만씩 베더라.	And the Nephites were continually marching out by day and by night, and falling upon their armies, and cutting them off by thousands and by tens of thousands.
3니 4:22	이리하여 젬나라이하의 백성들은 밤낮으로 저들에게 임하는 큰 파멸로 인하여 저들의 계획을 버리고 물러나기를 원하게 된지라.	And thus it became the desire of the people of Zemnarihah to withdraw from their design, because of the great destruction which came upon them by night and by day.
3니 4:23	이에 이렇게 되었나니 젬나라이하가 자기 백성에게 명령을 내려 포위를 풀고 물러나, 북방 땅의 극한 지역으로 진군하게 하였더라.	And it came to pass that Zemnarihah did give command unto his people that they should withdraw themselves from the siege, and march into the furthermost parts of the land northward.
3니 4:24	이에 이제 기드긷도나이는 저들의 계획을 간파하였고, 또 양식의 결핍과 저들 가운데 행하여진 큰 살육으로 말미암은 저들의 약함을 알고 있었던지라, 그러므로 밤중에 그의 군대를 내보내어 저들의 퇴각로를 차단하고, 저들의 퇴각로에 그의 군대를 배치하였더라.	And now, Gidgiddoni being aware of their design, and knowing of their weakness because of the want of food, and the great slaughter which had been made among them, therefore he did send out his armies in the night-time, and did cut off the way of their retreat, and did place his armies in the way of their retreat.
3니 4:25	또 이를 그들이 밤중에 행하여 도적들을 앞질러 행군한지라, 다음날 도적들이 저들의 행군을 시작하였을 때, 저들은 저들의 앞과 저들의 뒤 양쪽에서 니파이인들의 군대에게 만난 바 되었더라.	And this did they do in the night-time, and got on their march beyond the robbers, so that on the morrow, when the robbers began their march, they were met by the armies of the Nephites both in their front and in their rear.
3니 4:26	또한 남쪽에 있던 도적들도 저들의 퇴각 장소에서 차단되었더라. 그리고 이 모든 일은 기드긷도나이의 명령으로 행하여졌더라.	And the robbers who were on the south were also cut off in their places of retreat. And all these things were done by command of Gidgiddoni.
3니 4:27	이에 니파이인들에게 항복하여 포로된 자들이 여러 수천이었고, 그 나머지는 죽임을 당하였더라.	And there were many thousands who did yield themselves up prisoners unto the Nephites, and the remainder of them were slain.
3니 4:28	또 그들의 지도자 젬나라이하는 붙잡혀 나무에 달리웠으니, 곧 그가 죽기까지 그 꼭대기에 달리웠더라. 이에 그들이 그를 죽기까지 매달고 나서 나무를 찍어 땅에 쓰러뜨리고 큰 소리로 외쳐 이르되,	And their leader, Zemnarihah, was taken and hanged upon a tree, yea, even upon the top thereof until he was dead. And when they had hanged him until he was dead they did fell the tree to the earth, and did cry with a loud voice, saying:
3니 4:29	주께서는 그의 백성을 의로움과 마음의 거룩함으로 보전하사, 그들로 하여금 권세와 비밀 결사로 말미암아 그들을 도륙하기를 구하는 모든 자를 땅에 찍어 쓰러뜨리게 하시기를, 이 자가 땅에 찍혀 쓰러뜨림 당한 것 같게 하실 지로다 하니라.	May the Lord preserve his people in righteousness and in holiness of heart, that they may cause to be felled to the earth all who shall seek to slay them because of power and secret combinations, even as this man hath been felled to the earth.
3니 4:30	또 그들이 기뻐하며 다시 한 목소리로 외쳐 이르되, 아브라함의 하나님 이삭의 하나님 그리고 야곱의 하나님은 이 백성이 하나님의 이름을 불러 보호를 구하는 동안에는 그들을 의로움 가운데 보호하시옵소서 하니라.	And they did rejoice and cry again with one voice, saying: May the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, protect this people in righteousness, so long as they shall call on the name of their God for protection.
3니 4:31	또 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 다 하나가 되어 노래하며, 그들의 하나님이 그들을 위하여 행하신 큰 일, 곧 그들을 보전하사 그들의 원수의 손에 빠지지 않게 하신 것으로 인하여 그들의 하나님을 찬양하였더라.	And it came to pass that they did break forth, all as one, in singing, and praising their God for the great thing which he had done for them, in preserving them from falling into the hands of their enemies.
3니 4:32	참으로 그들이 외치기를, 지극히 높으신 하나님께 호산나 하고, 또 외치기를, 주 하나님 곧 전능하신 자, 지극히 높으신 하나님의 이름에 복이 있을 지로다 하였더라.	Yea, they did cry: Hosanna to the Most High God. And they did cry: Blessed be the name of the Lord God Almighty, the Most High God.	주) '리하이의 기도'와 비교해 보라 (니전1:14) "주 하나님, 곧 전능하신 이시여, 하시는 일이 크고 기이하시니이다. 주의 보좌는 하늘 높이 있고, 주의 권능과 선하심과 자비하심은 땅의 모든 주민 위에 있나이다. 또 주께서는 자비로우사 주께 나아오는 자들이 멸망되도록 버려두지 아니하시나이다."
3니 4:33	또 그들을 그들의 원수의 손에서 건져 내신 하나님의 크신 선하심으로 인하여 그들의 마음이 기쁨으로 벅차 많은 눈물을 흘렸으며, 또 그들이 영원한 멸망에서 건지심을 입은 것은 그들의 회개와 그들의 겸손함으로 인한 것이었음을 알았더라.	And their hearts were swollen with joy, unto the gushing out of many tears, because of the great goodness of God in delivering them out of the hands of their enemies; and they knew it was because of their repentance and their humility that they had been delivered from an everlasting destruction.	주) 오늘날 주님의 재림을 기다리는 이 시기에 몰몬경에 기록된 주님의 미 대륙 방문전에 있었던 이러한 사건들이 우리에게 시사하는 바가 많다. 현재 비밀결사와 테러를 일삼는 조직과의 전쟁이 벌어지고 있는 것을 볼때 너무나도 흡사함을 느낀다. 주님의 탄생 이후 33년간의 세월이 제3니파이 전반부에 기록되어 있다. 혹시 주님의 재림전에도 우리에게 이와 비슷한 시간이 주어지게 되는 것은 아닐까? 재림의 날은 아무도 모른다고 하지만, 주님께서 돌아가신 연대를 참고할 때, 또 미 대륙에 2백년간의 의로운 백성이 살았던 기간을 참고할 때, 말일의 교회가 회복된지 이제 174년이 흘렀음을 감안할 때, 우리의 어린 자녀들이 성장하여 중국, 러시아, 북한으로 선교사업을 하게 될 것이라는 스펜서 W. 킴볼 회장님의 예언을 생각할 때, 최근 축복 받는 어떤 회원의 경우 '살아서 주님의 뵐' 것이라는 축복을 받는 것을 볼 때, 이 복음이 끝날 만 천하에 전해진 후에야 세상 끝이 오리라는 경전의 예언을 참고할 때, 어느 정도 예견할 수 있는 것이 아닐까?
