레 21:1 여호와께로부터 예레미야에게 말씀이 임하니라 시드기야 왕이 말기야의 아들 바스훌과 제사장 마아세야의 아들 스바냐를 예레미야에게 보내니라 The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,

(24-4) 예레미야 21; 22:1~9. 주님은 그가 말씀한 것을 행하실 것인가?

바스훌은 예레미야가 자신에게 한 말을 싫어하였으나(예레미야 20:1~6 참조), 시드기야왕이 예레미야를 통하여 여호와께 구하라고 바스훌을 보냈을 때 그는 갔다. 예레미야의 대답은 세 부분으로 되어 있다.

    첫째는 주님께서 갈대아 사람들로부터 예루살렘을 구원하는 일을 중재해 주시기를 바라는 왕의 소망에 대한 대답(예레미야 21:4~7)으로 그것은 분명하였다. 희망이 없다는 것이었다.

    둘째는 백성들과 왕가가 생명을 보존하는 길은 갈대아 사람들에게 대항하는 것이 아니라 그들에게 굴복하는 것이라는 방법론적인 권고(8~10절 참조)였다.

    셋째는 다윗의 지파에 대한 예언(21:11~14, 22:1~9 참조)이었다. 여기에서 예레미야는 선택의 기회를 주었다. 왕과 백성이 의로 돌이킨다면, 다윗의 보좌가 보존될 것이나(예레미야 22:4 참조), 그렇지 않으면“황폐[해질]”(5절) 것이다.

길르앗은 이스라엘이 알고 있는 가장 비옥한 토지를 상징하였고 레바논은 높은 산과 가장 좋은 나무로 상징하였다.(22:6절) 그러나 주님은 그의 파괴자들을 보내시어 가장 좋은 땅들이 황폐하게 되었다. 그 이유는 22:9절에서 분명하게 나타나 있다

레 21:2 바벨론의 느부갓네살 왕이 우리를 치니 청컨대 너는 우리를 위하여 여호와께 간구하라 여호와께서 혹시 그의 모든 기적으로 우리를 도와 행하시면 그가 우리를 떠나리라 하니 Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
레 21:3 예레미야가 그들에게 대답하되 너희는 시드기야에게 이같이 말하라 Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah:
레 21:4 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 보라 너희가 성 밖에서 바벨론의 왕과 또 너희를 에워싼 갈대아인과 싸우는 데 쓰는 너희 손의 무기를 내가 뒤로 돌릴 것이요 그것들을 이 성 가운데 모아들이리라 Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.
레 21:5 내가 든 손과 강한 팔 곧 진노와 분노와 대노로 친히 너희를 칠 것이며 And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.
레 21:6 내가 또 사람이나 짐승이나 이 성에 있는 것을 다 치리니 그들이 큰 전염병에 죽으리라 하셨다 하라 And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.
레 21:7 여호와의 말씀이니라 그 후에 내가 유다의 왕 시드기야와 그의 신하들과 백성과 및 이 성읍에서 전염병과 칼과 기근에서 남은 자를 바벨론의 느부갓네살 왕의 손과 그들의 원수의 손과 그들의 생명을 찾는 자들의 손에 넘기리니 그가 칼날로 그들을 치되 측은히 여기지 아니하며 긍휼히 여기지 아니하며 불쌍히 여기지 아니하리라 하셨느니라 And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.
레 21:8 여호와께서 말씀하시기를 보라 내가 너희 앞에 생명의 길과 사망의 길을 두었노라 너는 이 백성에게 전하라 하셨느니라 And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.
레 21:9 이 성읍에 사는 자는 칼과 기근과 전염병에 죽으려니와 너희를 에워싼 갈대아인에게 나가서 항복하는 자는 살 것이나 그의 목숨은 전리품 같이 되리라 He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.
레 21:10 여호와의 말씀이니라 내가 나의 얼굴을 이 성읍으로 향함은 복을 내리기 위함이 아니요 화를 내리기 위함이라 이 성읍이 바벨론 왕의 손에 넘김이 될 것이요 그는 그것을 불사르리라 For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
레 21:11 유다 왕의 집에 대한 여호와의 말을 들으라 And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
레 21:12 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 다윗의 집이여 너는 아침마다 정의롭게 판결하여 탈취 당한 자를 압박자의 손에서 건지라 그리하지 아니하면 너희의 악행 때문에 내 분노가 불 같이 일어나서 사르리니 능히 끌 자가 없으리라 O house of David, thus saith the LORD; Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
레 21:13 여호와의 말씀이니라 골짜기와 평원 바위의 주민아 보라 너희가 말하기를 누가 내려와서 우리를 치리요 누가 우리의 거처에 들어오리요 하거니와 나는 네 대적이라 Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?
레 21:14 내가 너희 행위대로 너희를 벌할 것이요 내가 또 수풀에 불을 놓아 그 모든 주위를 사르리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.
