소개 사반의 아들 아히감이 예레미야를 보호하여 예레미야를 백성의 손에 내어주지 아니하여 죽이지 못하게 하니라 Jeremiah prophesies the destruction of the people—For this he is arraigned and tried and then acquitted.

 
레 26:1 유다의 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김이 다스리기 시작한 때에 여호와께로부터 이 말씀이 임하여 이르시되 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,

(24-9) 예레미야 26:1~9. 실로로서의 예루살렘

예레미야서는 연대적으로 배열되어 있지 않다. 예를 들어, 예레미야 25장은 여호야김의 사십 년 간의 치세에 대한 내용이다. 그런데 예레미야 26장 1~9절은 그의 치세 첫 해에 관한 내용이다.

예레미야는 예루살렘을 장막을 짓기 위한 최초의 영구적인 안식처이자 이스라엘 지파가 그들의 기업을 얻기 위하여 제비를 뽑았던 곳, 실로와 비교하였다. 실로는 에브라임 유산의 일부이며, 한나가 사무엘을 엘리에게 데리고 갔던 곳이다. 예레미야 26장 1~9절에서 주님은 장막이 블레셋인에게 더럽히도록 허락하셨듯이, 그의 성전이 바벨론인들에게 더럽히게 되도록 허락하셨다고 말한다. 그리고 실로가 사악함 때문에 황폐하게 되었듯이 예루살렘은 멸망될 것이다.(예레미야 7:12, 14 참조)

레 26:2 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 너는 여호와의 성전 뜰에 서서 유다 모든 성읍에서 여호와의 성전에 와서 예배하는 자에게 내가 네게 명령하여 이르게 한 모든 말을 전하되 한 마디도 감하지 말라 Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
레 26:3 그들이 듣고 혹시 각각 그 악한 길에서 돌아오리라 그리하면 내가 그들의 악행으로 말미암아 그들에게 재앙을 내리려 하던 뜻을 돌이키리라 If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
레 26:4 너는 그들에게 이와 같이 이르라 여호와의 말씀에 너희가 나를 순종하지 아니하며 내가 너희 앞에 둔 내 율법을 행하지 아니하며 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,
레 26:5 내가 너희에게 나의 종 선지자들을 꾸준히 보내 그들의 말을 순종하라고 하였으나 너희는 순종하지 아니하였느니라 To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;
레 26:6 내가 이 성전을 실로 같이 되게 하고 이 성을 세계 모든 민족의 저줏거리가 되게 하리라 하셨느니라 Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
레 26:7 예레미야가 여호와의 성전에서 이 말을 하매 제사장들과 선지자들과 모든 백성이 듣더라 So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
레 26:8 예레미야가 여호와께서 명령하신 말씀을 모든 백성에게 전하기를 마치매 제사장들과 선지자들과 모든 백성이 그를 붙잡고 이르되 네가 반드시 죽어야 하리라 Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
레 26:9 어찌하여 네가 여호와의 이름을 의지하고 예언하여 이르기를 이 성전이 실로 같이 되겠고 이 성이 황폐하여 주민이 없으리라 하느냐 하며 그 모든 백성이 여호와의 성전에서 예레미야를 향하여 모여드니라 Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
레 26:10 유다의 고관들이 이 말을 듣고 왕궁에서 여호와의 성전으로 올라가 여호와의 성전 새 대문의 입구에 앉으매 When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house.

 
레 26:11 제사장들과 선지자들이 고관들과 모든 백성에게 말하여 이르되 이 사람은 죽는 것이 합당하니 너희 귀로 들음 같이 이 성에 관하여 예언하였음이라 Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

 
레 26:12 예레미야가 모든 고관과 백성에게 말하여 이르되 여호와께서 나를 보내사 너희가 들은 바 모든 말로 이 성전과 이 성을 향하여 예언하게 하셨느니라 Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

 
레 26:13 그런즉 너희는 너희 길과 행위를 고치고 너희 하나님 여호와의 목소리를 청종하라 그리하면 여호와께서 너희에게 선언하신 재앙에 대하여 뜻을 돌이키시리라 Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

 
레 26:14 보라 나는 너희 손에 있으니 너희 의견에 좋은 대로, 옳은 대로 하려니와 As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.

(24-10) 예레미야 26:14~15.“너희 의견에 좋은 대로”

14, 15절에 들어 있는 예레미야의 말씀을 모사이야서 17장 9~10절에서 아빈아다이가 한 말씀과 비교한다. 아빈아다이와 마찬가지로 예레미야는 원수에게 이러한 메시지를 전했다.“나는 나의 말을 취소하지 아니하리니, 그 말은 너희를 치는 증거가 되리라. 또 만일 너희가 나를 죽이면 너희가 무죄한 피를 흘림이 되리니, 이 또한 마지막 날에 너희를 치는 증거가 되리로다.”

레 26:15 너희는 분명히 알아라 너희가 나를 죽이면 반드시 무죄한 피를 너희 몸과 이 성과 이 성 주민에게 돌리는 것이니라 이는 여호와께서 진실로 나를 보내사 이 모든 말을 너희 귀에 말하게 하셨음이라 But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
레 26:16 고관들과 모든 백성이 제사장들과 선지자들에게 이르되 이 사람이 우리 하나님 여호와의 이름으로 우리에게 말하였으니 죽일 만한 이유가 없느니라 Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

 
레 26:17 그러자 그 지방의 장로 중 몇 사람이 일어나 백성의 온 회중에게 말하여 이르기를 Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

 
레 26:18 유다의 왕 히스기야 시대에 모레셋 사람 미가가 유다의 모든 백성에게 예언하여 이르되 만군의 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하셨느니라 시온은 밭 같이 경작지가 될 것이며 예루살렘은 돌 무더기가 되며 이 성전의 산은 산당의 숲과 같이 되리라 하였으나 Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

 
레 26:19 유다의 왕 히스기야와 모든 유다가 그를 죽였느냐 히스기야가 여호와를 두려워하여 여호와께 간구하매 여호와께서 그들에게 선언한 재앙에 대하여 뜻을 돌이키지 아니하셨느냐 우리가 이같이 하면 우리의 생명을 스스로 심히 해롭게 하는 것이니라 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.

 
레 26:20 또 여호와의 이름으로 예언한 사람이 있었는데 곧 기럇여아림 스마야의 아들 우리야라 그가 예레미야의 모든 말과 같이 이 성과 이 땅에 경고하여 예언하매 And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

(24-11) 예레미야 26:20~24. 우리야의 경우

예레미야의 재판 시에 언급된 우리야의 경우는 여호야김 왕의 사악함을 말해 준다. 우리야는 왕이 자신을 죽이려 한다는 소식을 듣고 애굽으로 피신하였다. 그러나 그가 다시 여호야김에 의하여 붙들려 돌아와 살해된 것으로 보면 애굽이 그에게 은신처를 제공하지 않았던 것이 명백하다. 우리야와 그의 성역에 관하여 언급된 것이 이것뿐이라는 사실로 미루어 보면 우리가 알지 못하는 선지자들이 많이 있었을 것이다.

24절은 예레미야가 비록 죄가 없었으나, 그를 보호해 준 아히감이 아니었더라면 백성들의 손으로 우리야의 운명과 같이 당하였을 것이었음을 암시한다.

레 26:21 여호야김 왕과 그의 모든 용사와 모든 고관이 그의 말을 듣고서 왕이 그를 죽이려 하매 우리야가 그 말을 듣고 두려워 애굽으로 도망하여 간지라 And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;
레 26:22 여호야김 왕이 사람을 애굽으로 보내되 곧 악볼의 아들 엘라단과 몇 사람을 함께 애굽으로 보냈더니 And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.
레 26:23 그들이 우리야를 애굽에서 연행하여 여호야김 왕에게로 그를 데려오매 왕이 칼로 그를 죽이고 그의 시체를 평민의 묘지에 던지게 하니라 And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
레 26:24 사반의 아들 아히감의 손이 예레미야를 도와 주어 그를 백성의 손에 내어 주지 아니하여 죽이지 못하게 하니라 Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
