소개 이 온 땅이 황폐하여 놀램이 될 것이며 이 나라들은 칠십 년 동안 바벨론 왕을 섬기리라 Captive Judah shall serve Babylon seventy years—Divers nations shall be overthrown—In the last days all the inhabitants of the earth shall be at war.

 
레 25:1 유다의 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김 넷째 해 곧 바벨론의 왕 느부갓네살 원년에 유다의 모든 백성에 관한 말씀이 예레미야에게 임하니라 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;

 
레 25:2 선지자 예레미야가 유다의 모든 백성과 예루살렘의 모든 주민에게 말하여 이르되 The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,

 
레 25:3 유다의 왕 아몬의 아들 요시야 왕 열셋째 해부터 오늘까지 이십삼 년 동안 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하기로 내가 너희에게 꾸준히 일렀으나 너희가 순종하지 아니하였느니라 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened.

 
레 25:4 그러므로 여호와께서 그의 모든 종 선지자를 너희에게 끊임없이 보내셨으나 너희가 순종하지 아니하였으며 귀를 기울여 듣지도 아니하였도다 And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.

 
레 25:5 그가 이르시기를 너희는 각자의 악한 길과 악행을 버리고 돌아오라 그리하면 나 여호와가 너희와 너희 조상들에게 영원부터 영원까지 준 그 땅에 살리라 They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:

 
레 25:6 너희는 다른 신을 따라다니며 섬기거나 경배하지 말며 너희 손으로 만든 것으로써 나의 노여움을 일으키지 말라 그리하면 내가 너희를 해하지 아니하리라 하였으나 And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.

 
레 25:7 너희가 내 말을 순종하지 아니하고 너희 손으로 만든 것으로써 나의 노여움을 일으켜 스스로 해하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

 
레 25:8 그러므로 만군의 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 너희가 내 말을 듣지 아니하였느니라 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,

 
레 25:9 보라 내가 북쪽 모든 종족과 내 종 바벨론의 왕 느부갓네살을 불러다가 이 땅과 그 주민과 사방 모든 나라를 쳐서 진멸하여 그들을 놀램과 비웃음 거리가 되게 하며 땅으로 영원한 폐허가 되게 할 것이라 여호와의 말씀이니라 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

 
레 25:10 내가 그들 중에서 기뻐하는 소리와 즐거워하는 소리와 신랑의 소리와 신부의 소리와 맷돌 소리와 등불 빛이 끊어지게 하리니 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.

 
레 25:11 이 모든 땅이 폐허가 되어 놀랄 일이 될 것이며 이 민족들은 칠십 년 동안 바벨론의 왕을 섬기리라 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

 
레 25:12 여호와의 말씀이니라 칠십 년이 끝나면 내가 바벨론의 왕과 그의 나라와 갈대아인의 땅을 그 죄악으로 말미암아 벌하여 영원히 폐허가 되게 하되 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

 
레 25:13 내가 그 땅을 향하여 선언한 바 곧 예레미야가 모든 민족을 향하여 예언하고 이 책에 기록한 나의 모든 말을 그 땅에 임하게 하리라 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.

 
레 25:14 그리하여 여러 민족과 큰 왕들이 그들로 자기들을 섬기게 할 것이나 나는 그들의 행위와 그들의 손이 행한 대로 갚으리라 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.

 
레 25:15 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 내게 이르시되 너는 내 손에서 이 진노의 술잔을 받아가지고 내가 너를 보내는 바 그 모든 나라로 하여금 마시게 하라 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.

 
레 25:16 그들이 마시고 비틀거리며 미친 듯이 행동하리니 이는 내가 그들 중에 칼을 보냈기 때문이니라 하시기로 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.

(24-8) 예레미야 25:16~29. 누가 하나님의 진노의 잔을 마실 것인가?

“[주님의] 진노의 잔”에 대한 주해는 이사야 51장 17~23절 주해 편에 나온다. 예루살렘과 유다 성읍으로부터 시작되어 애굽, 동방과 서양의 여러 나라, 그리고 바벨론이 쓴 잔을 마시게 될 것이다.

25장의 마지막 부분은 앞으로 있을 아마겟돈 전쟁의 시기를 예언하듯이 건너뛰고 있다. 여기에서 그 전쟁은 유다에게 악한 나라는 주님의 심판을 면하지 못한다는 것을 보여주기 위하여 묘사되어 있다. 이 성구의 말들은 예레미야가 본 것이 모든 열방이 주님의 백성을 대항하여 뭉치며, 심판을 받게 되는 시기였음을 가르쳐 준다. 조셉 필딩 스미스 장로는 주님께서 뭇 민족과 다투시는 것을 마지막 날과 연관시키고 있다.(시대의 표적, 138~175쪽) 예레미야 25장 32~33절의 언어는 아마겟돈에 대한 다른 성구와 비슷하다.(에스겔 38~39 주해 편 참조; 보충 자료 편 자 참조)

(17-15) 이사야 51:17~23. 곤비한“두 아들”은 누구였는가?

수세기 동안 주님의 성약의 백성들은“여호와의 손에서 그의 분노의 잔을 마[셨다]”즉, 그들은 그분의 말에 주의하는 것을 거절한 결과로 고통당했으며 그것을“다 비웠 … 다”(이사야 51:17) 이스라엘에 대한 심판의 때가 아직 끝나지 않았다. 아마겟돈의 전쟁에서 유대 국가는 다시 한 번 큰 압제와 심판을 겪게 될 것이다.(보충 자료 자 참조)

놋쇠판에서 나온 니파이후서 8장 19~20절의 두 아들은 요한계시록 11장 1~6절의 두 증인일 것이라고 암시하고 있다. 그리고 이들은 군대가 유대인을 멸하지 못하게 막을 것이다. (교리와 성약 77:15 참조) 두 증인에 관해서는 독서 과제 자-6에 상세히 나와 있다.

하나님의 이 두 종들과 그들이 행한 기적에 의해서 하나님은 “비틀걸음 치게 하는 잔 곧 나의 분노의 큰 잔”을 이스라엘의 손에서 옮기실 것이다. 이 약속은“네가 다시는 마시지 못하게” 하리라는 것이다.(이사야 51:22) 반면에 분노의 잔은 주님의 성약의 백성들을 무시하고 짓밟아 온 자들에게 주어질 것이다. 그때 고통을 겪는 것은 그들의 차례가 될 것이다.(23절 참조)
레 25:17 내가 여호와의 손에서 그 잔을 받아서 여호와께서 나를 보내신 바 그 모든 나라로 마시게 하되 Then took I the cup at the LORD’s hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:
레 25:18 예루살렘과 유다 성읍들과 그 왕들과 그 고관들로 마시게 하였더니 그들이 멸망과 놀램과 비웃음과 저주를 당함이 오늘과 같으니라 To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;
레 25:19 또 애굽의 왕 바로와 그의 신하들과 그의 고관들과 그의 모든 백성과 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;
레 25:20 모든 섞여 사는 민족들과 우스 땅의 모든 왕과 블레셋 사람의 땅 모든 왕과 아스글론과 가사와 에그론과 아스돗의 나머지 사람들과 And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,
레 25:21 에돔과 모압과 암몬 자손과 Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,
레 25:22 두로의 모든 왕과 시돈의 모든 왕과 바다 건너쪽 섬의 왕들과 And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea,
레 25:23 드단과 데마와 부스와 살쩍을 깎은 모든 자와 Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners,
레 25:24 아라비아의 모든 왕과 광야에서 섞여 사는 민족들의 모든 왕과 And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,
레 25:25 시므리의 모든 왕과 엘람의 모든 왕과 메대의 모든 왕과 And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,
레 25:26 북쪽 원근의 모든 왕과 지면에 있는 세상의 모든 나라로 마시게 하니라 세삭 왕은 그 후에 마시리라 And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
레 25:27 너는 그들에게 이르기를 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님의 말씀에 너희는 내가 너희 가운데 보내는 칼 앞에서 마시며 취하여 토하고 엎드러져 다시는 일어나지 말아라 하셨느니라 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.
레 25:28 그들이 만일 네 손에서 잔을 받아 마시기를 거절하거든 너는 그들에게 이르기를 만군의 여호와께서 말씀하시기를 너희가 반드시 마셔야 하리라 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.
레 25:29 보라 내가 내 이름으로 일컬음을 받는 성에서부터 재앙 내리기를 시작하였은즉 너희가 어찌 능히 형벌을 면할 수 있느냐 면하지 못하리니 이는 내가 칼을 불러 세상의 모든 주민을 칠 것임이라 하셨다 하라 만군의 여호와의 말씀이니라 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.
레 25:30 그러므로 너는 그들에게 이 모든 말로 예언하여 이르기를 여호와께서 높은 데서 포효하시고 그의 거룩한 처소에서 소리를 내시며 그의 초장을 향하여 크게 부르시고 세상 모든 주민에 대하여 포도 밟는 자 같이 흥겹게 노래하시리라 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

 
레 25:31 요란한 소리가 땅 끝까지 이름은 여호와께서 뭇 민족과 다투시며 모든 육체를 심판하시며 악인을 칼에 내어 주셨음이라 여호와의 말씀이니라 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.

 
레 25:32 만군의 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 보라 재앙이 나서 나라에서 나라에 미칠 것이며 큰 바람이 땅 끝에서 일어날 것이라 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

 
레 25:33 그 날에 여호와에게 죽임을 당한 자가 땅 이 끝에서 땅 저 끝에 미칠 것이나 그들을 위하여 애곡하는 자도 없고 시신을 거두어 주는 자도 없고 매장하여 주는 자도 없으리니 그들은 지면에서 분토가 되리로다 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

 
레 25:34 너희 목자들아 외쳐 애곡하라 너희 양 떼의 인도자들아 잿더미에서 뒹굴라 이는 너희가 도살 당할 날과 흩음을 당할 기한이 찼음인즉 너희가 귀한 그릇이 떨어짐 같이 될 것이라 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.

 
레 25:35 목자들은 도망할 수 없겠고 양 떼의 인도자들은 도주할 수 없으리로다 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.

 
레 25:36 목자들이 부르짖는 소리와 양 떼의 인도자들이 애곡하는 소리여 여호와가 그들의 초장을 황폐하게 함이로다 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture.

 
레 25:37 평화로운 목장들이 여호와의 진노하시는 열기 앞에서 적막하게 되리라 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

 
레 25:38 그가 젊은 사자 같이 그 굴에서 나오셨으니 그 호통치시는 분의 분노와 그의 극렬한 진노로 말미암아 그들의 땅이 폐허가 되리로다 하시니라 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.
