소개 바벨론은 멸망하고 흩어진 이스라엘 백성들이 상속의 땅으로 돌아오게 될것. Babylon shall be destroyed and never rise again—Scattered Israel shall be brought again into the lands of her inheritance.

(25-23) 예레미야 50장. 바벨론이 영원히 멸망됨

흩어진 이스라엘은 그들의 기업의 땅으로 다시 돌아올 것이다. 그들은 주님을 구하고, 결코 깨뜨릴 수 없는 영구적인 성약을 주님과 맺을 것이다.“큰 민족의 무리를 북쪽에서 올라오게 하여”(9절)라는 구절에 대하여 졸라크는 다음과 같이 말한다. “고레스의 군대는 메데, 바사, 아르메니아, 카투시아인, 삭개인 등등으로 이루어졌다. 이들이 모두 북쪽에서 오지는 않았으나 그들은 메데의 휘하에서 정열되었으며, 메데는 아벨론에서 볼 때 북쪽에서 오는 것이다.”(주해서, 4:383)

이들에 의하여 이스라엘이“흩어진 양”(17절)같이 되겠고, 바벨론 왕, 느부갓네살에게는 벌이 내릴 것이다. 그러나 미래에 이스라엘은 다시 그들의 기업의 땅으로 돌아올 것이고 (19절 참조) 용서받을 것이다.(20절 참조) 그들은 주 예수 그리스도에 의하여 인도될 것이다.(34절 참조) 그는 아버지와 함께 변호인이며(교리와 성약 29:5 참조), 그의 앞에서 인간의 대업을 탄원하신다.

41~46절은 바벨론의 멸망을 묘사하고 있다. 바벨론의 멸망은 주변의 나라들에게 놀라운 것이 되었다. 왜냐하면 그들은 바벨론은 멸망당할 수 없는 나라로 생각했었기 때문이었다. 여기서 바벨론은 강대국으로서 아니라 세상적인 것과 영적인 결함의 상징으로 보여지고 있다.(교리와 성약 133:14 참조)

레 50:1 여호와께서 선지자 예레미야에게 바벨론과 갈대아 사람의 땅에 대하여 하신 말씀이라 The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.
레 50:2 너희는 나라들 가운데에 전파하라 공포하라 깃발을 세우라 숨김이 없이 공포하여 이르라 바벨론이 함락되고 벨이 수치를 당하며 므로닥이 부스러지며 그 신상들은 수치를 당하며 우상들은 부스러진다 하라 Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
레 50:3 이는 한 나라가 북쪽에서 나와서 그를 쳐서 그 땅으로 황폐하게 하여 그 가운데에 사는 자가 없게 할 것임이라 사람이나 짐승이 다 도망할 것임이니라 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
레 50:4 여호와의 말씀이니라 그 날 그 때에 이스라엘 자손이 돌아오며 유다 자손도 함께 돌아오되 그들이 울면서 그 길을 가며 그의 하나님 여호와께 구할 것이며 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.
레 50:5 그들이 그 얼굴을 시온으로 향하여 그 길을 물으며 말하기를 너희는 오라 잊을 수 없는 영원한 언약으로 여호와와 연합하라 하리라 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
레 50:6 내 백성은 잃어 버린 양 떼로다 그 목자들이 그들을 곁길로 가게 하여 산으로 돌이키게 하였으므로 그들이 산에서 언덕으로 돌아다니며 쉴 곳을 잊었도다 My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.
레 50:7 그들을 만나는 자들은 그들을 삼키며 그의 대적은 말하기를 그들이 여호와 곧 의로운 처소시며 그의 조상들의 소망이신 여호와께 범죄하였음인즉 우리는 무죄하다 하였느니라 All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.
레 50:8 너희는 바벨론 가운데에서 도망하라 갈대아 사람의 땅에서 나오라 양 떼에 앞서가는 숫염소 같이 하라 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.
레 50:9 보라 내가 큰 민족의 무리를 북쪽에서 올라오게 하여 바벨론을 대항하게 하리니 그들이 대열을 벌이고 쳐서 정복할 것이라 그들의 화살은 노련한 용사의 화살 같아서 허공을 치지 아니하리라 For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.
레 50:10 갈대아가 약탈을 당할 것이라 그를 약탈하는 자마다 만족하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the LORD.
레 50:11 나의 소유를 노략하는 자여 너희가 즐거워하며 기뻐하고 타작하는 송아지 같이 발굽을 구르며 군마 같이 우는도다 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;
레 50:12 그러므로 너희의 어머니가 큰 수치를 당하리라 너희를 낳은 자가 치욕을 당하리라 보라 그가 나라들 가운데의 마지막과 광야와 마른 땅과 거친 계곡이 될 것이며 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
레 50:13 여호와의 진노로 말미암아 주민이 없어 완전히 황무지가 될 것이라 바벨론을 지나가는 자마다 그 모든 재난에 놀라며 탄식하리로다 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.
레 50:14 바벨론을 둘러 대열을 벌이고 활을 당기는 모든 자여 화살을 아끼지 말고 쏘라 그가 여호와께 범죄하였음이라 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the LORD.
레 50:15 그 주위에서 고함을 지르리로다 그가 항복하였고 그 요새는 무너졌고 그 성벽은 허물어졌으니 이는 여호와께서 그가 행한 대로 그에게 내리시는 보복이라 그가 행한 대로 그에게 갚으시는도다 Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
레 50:16 파종하는 자와 추수 때에 낫을 잡은 자를 바벨론에서 끊어 버리라 사람들이 그 압박하는 칼을 두려워하여 각기 동족에게로 돌아가며 고향으로 도망하리라 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.
레 50:17 이스라엘은 흩어진 양이라 사자들이 그를 따르도다 처음에는 앗수르 왕이 먹었고 다음에는 바벨론의 느부갓네살 왕이 그의 뼈를 꺾도다 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
레 50:18 그러므로 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 이와 같이 말하노라 보라 내가 앗수르의 왕을 벌한 것 같이 바벨론의 왕과 그 땅을 벌하고 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
레 50:19 이스라엘을 다시 그의 목장으로 돌아가게 하리니 그가 갈멜과 바산에서 양을 기를 것이며 그의 마음이 에브라임과 길르앗 산에서 만족하리라 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.
레 50:20 여호와의 말씀이니라 그 날 그 때에는 이스라엘의 죄악을 찾을지라도 없겠고 유다의 죄를 찾을지라도 찾아내지 못하리니 이는 내가 남긴 자를 용서할 것임이라 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
레 50:21 이는 여호와의 말씀이니라 너희는 올라가서 므라다임의 땅을 치며 브곳의 주민을 쳐서 진멸하되 내가 너희에게 명령한 대로 다하라 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
레 50:22 그 땅에 싸움의 소리와 큰 파멸이 있으리라 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
레 50:23 온 세계의 망치가 어찌 그리 꺾여 부서졌는고 바벨론이 어찌 그리 나라들 가운데에 황무지가 되었는고 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
레 50:24 바벨론아 내가 너를 잡으려고 올무를 놓았더니 네가 깨닫지 못하여 걸렸고 네가 여호와와 싸웠으므로 발각되어 잡혔도다 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.
레 50:25 여호와께서 그의 병기창을 열고 분노의 무기를 꺼냄은 주 만군의 여호와께서 갈대아 사람의 땅에 행할 일이 있음이라 The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.
레 50:26 먼 곳에 있는 너희는 와서 그를 치고 그의 곳간을 열고 그것을 곡식더미처럼 쌓아 올려라 그를 진멸하고 남기지 말라 Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.
레 50:27 그의 황소를 다 죽이라 그를 도살하려 내려 보내라 그들에게 화 있도다 그들의 날, 그 벌 받는 때가 이르렀음이로다 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.
레 50:28 바벨론 땅에서 도피한 자의 소리여 시온에서 우리 하나님 여호와의 보복하시는 것, 그의 성전의 보복하시는 것을 선포하는 소리로다 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.
레 50:29 활 쏘는 자를 바벨론에 소집하라 활을 당기는 자여 그 사면으로 진을 쳐서 피하는 자가 없게 하라 그가 일한 대로 갚고 그가 행한 대로 그에게 갚으라 그가 이스라엘의 거룩한 자 여호와를 향하여 교만하였음이라 Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
레 50:30 그러므로 그 날에 장정들이 그 거리에 엎드러지겠고 군사들이 멸절되리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD.
레 50:31 주 만군의 여호와의 말씀이니라 교만한 자여 보라 내가 너를 대적하나니 너의 날 곧 내가 너를 벌할 때가 이르렀음이라 Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.
레 50:32 교만한 자가 걸려 넘어지겠고 그를 일으킬 자가 없을 것이며 내가 그의 성읍들에 불을 지르리니 그의 주위에 있는 것을 다 삼키리라 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.
레 50:33 만군의 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 이스라엘 자손과 유다 자손이 함께 학대를 받는도다 그들을 사로잡은 자는 다 그들을 붙들고 놓아 주지 아니하리라 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.
레 50:34 그들의 구원자는 강하니 그의 이름은 만군의 여호와라 반드시 그들 때문에 싸우시리니 그 땅에 평안함을 주고 바벨론 주민은 불안하게 하리라 Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
레 50:35 여호와의 말씀이니라 칼이 갈대아인의 위에와 바벨론 주민의 위에와 그 고관들과 지혜로운 자의 위에 떨어지리라 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
레 50:36 칼이 자랑하는 자의 위에 떨어지리니 그들이 어리석게 될 것이며 칼이 용사의 위에 떨어지리니 그들이 놀랄 것이며 A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.
레 50:37 칼이 그들의 말들과 병거들과 그들 중에 있는 여러 민족의 위에 떨어지리니 그들이 여인들 같이 될 것이며 칼이 보물 위에 떨어지리니 그것이 약탈되리라 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.
레 50:38 가뭄이 물 위에 내리어 그것을 말리리니 이는 그 땅이 조각한 신상의 땅이요 그들은 무서운 것을 보고 실성하였음이니라 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.
레 50:39 그러므로 사막의 들짐승이 승냥이와 함께 거기에 살겠고 타조도 그 가운데에 살 것이요 영원히 주민이 없으며 대대에 살 자가 없으리라 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.
레 50:40 여호와의 말씀이니라 하나님께서 소돔과 고모라와 그 이웃 성읍들을 뒤엎었듯이 거기에 사는 사람이 없게 하며 그 가운데에 머물러 사는 사람이 아무도 없게 하시리라 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
레 50:41 보라 한 민족이 북쪽에서 오고 큰 나라와 여러 왕이 충동을 받아 땅 끝에서 일어나리니 Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
레 50:42 그들은 활과 투창을 가진 자라 잔인하여 불쌍히 여기지 아니하며 그들의 목소리는 바다가 설레임 같도다 딸 바벨론아 그들이 말을 타고 무사 같이 각기 네 앞에서 대열을 갖추었도다 They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
레 50:43 바벨론의 왕이 그 소문을 듣고 손이 약하여지며 고통에 사로잡혀 해산하는 여인처럼 진통하는도다 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.
레 50:44 보라 사자가 요단의 깊은 숲에서 나타나듯이 그가 와서 견고한 처소를 칠 것이라 내가 즉시 그들을 거기에서 쫓아내고 택한 자를 내가 그 자리에 세우리니 나와 같은 자 누구며 출두하라고 나에게 명령할 자가 누구며 내 앞에 설 목자가 누구냐 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?
레 50:45 그런즉 바벨론에 대한 여호와의 계획과 갈대아 사람의 땅에 대하여 품은 여호와의 생각을 들으라 양 떼의 어린 것들을 그들이 반드시 끌어 가고 그들의 초장을 황폐하게 하리니 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.
레 50:46 바벨론이 약탈 당하는 소리에 땅이 진동하며 그 부르짖음이 나라들 가운데에 들리리라 하시도다 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
