소개 네가 평안할 때에 내가 네게 말하였으나 네 말이 나는 듣지 아니하리라 하였나니 David’s throne stands or falls on the degree of obedience of the kings—The judgments of the Lord rest upon the kings of Judah.

 
레 22:1 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 너는 유다 왕의 집에 내려가서 거기에서 이 말을 선언하여 Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,

(24-4) 예레미야 21; 22:1~9. 주님은 그가 말씀한 것을 행하실 것인가?

바스훌은 예레미야가 자신에게 한 말을 싫어하였으나(예레미야 20:1~6 참조), 시드기야왕이 예레미야를 통하여 여호와께 구하라고 바스훌을 보냈을 때 그는 갔다. 예레미야의 대답은 세 부분으로 되어 있다.

    첫째는 주님께서 갈대아 사람들로부터 예루살렘을 구원하는 일을 중재해 주시기를 바라는 왕의 소망에 대한 대답(예레미야 21:4~7)으로 그것은 분명하였다. 희망이 없다는 것이었다.

    둘째는 백성들과 왕가가 생명을 보존하는 길은 갈대아 사람들에게 대항하는 것이 아니라 그들에게 굴복하는 것이라는 방법론적인 권고(8~10절 참조)였다.

    셋째는 다윗의 지파에 대한 예언(21:11~14, 22:1~9 참조)이었다. 여기에서 예레미야는 선택의 기회를 주었다. 왕과 백성이 의로 돌이킨다면, 다윗의 보좌가 보존될 것이나(예레미야 22:4 참조), 그렇지 않으면“황폐[해질]”(5절) 것이다.

길르앗은 이스라엘이 알고 있는 가장 비옥한 토지를 상징하였고 레바논은 높은 산과 가장 좋은 나무로 상징하였다.(22::6절) 그러나 주님은 그의 파괴자들을 보내시어 가장 좋은 땅들이 황폐하게 되었다. 그 이유는 22:9절에서 분명하게 나타나 있다.

레 22:2 이르기를 다윗의 왕위에 앉은 유다 왕이여 너와 네 신하와 이 문들로 들어오는 네 백성은 여호와의 말씀을 들을지니라 And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:
레 22:3 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 너희가 정의와 공의를 행하여 탈취 당한 자를 압박하는 자의 손에서 건지고 이방인과 고아와 과부를 압제하거나 학대하지 말며 이 곳에서 무죄한 피를 흘리지 말라 Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
레 22:4 너희가 참으로 이 말을 준행하면 다윗의 왕위에 앉을 왕들과 신하들과 백성이 병거와 말을 타고 이 집 문으로 들어오게 되리라 For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.
레 22:5 그러나 너희가 이 말을 듣지 아니하면 내가 나를 두고 맹세하노니 이 집이 황폐하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.
레 22:6 여호와께서 유다 왕의 집에 대하여 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 네가 내게 길르앗 같고 레바논의 머리이나 내가 반드시 너로 광야와 주민이 없는 성읍을 만들 것이라 For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art Gilead unto me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
레 22:7 내가 너를 파멸할 자를 준비하리니 그들이 각기 손에 무기를 가지고 네 아름다운 백향목을 찍어 불에 던지리라 And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
레 22:8 여러 민족들이 이 성읍으로 지나가며 서로 말하기를 여호와가 이 큰 성읍에 이같이 행함은 어찌 됨인고 하겠고 And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?
레 22:9 그들이 대답하기는 이는 그들이 자기 하나님 여호와의 언약을 버리고 다른 신들에게 절하고 그를 섬긴 까닭이라 하셨다 할지니라 Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.
레 22:10 너희는 죽은 자를 위하여 울지 말며 그를 위하여 애통하지 말고 잡혀 간 자를 위하여 슬피 울라 그는 다시 돌아와 그 고국을 보지 못할 것임이라 Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: but weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.

(24-5) 예레미야 22:10~30. 유다의 통치자에 대한 구체적인 정죄

“죽은 자를 위하여 울지 말며”(예레미야 22:10, 11~12절도 참조)는 므깃도 전쟁에서 입은 상처로 인하여 죽은 이스라엘의 왕 요시야를 말하는 것이다. “잡혀 간 자를 위하여 슬피 울라”(10절)는 요시야 왕의 아들이며 후계자로서 애급으로 잡혀 간 살룸 또는 여호아하스를 가리킨다.(보충자료 편 사 참조)

예레미야 22장 10~30절의 주요 교훈은 주님께서 가장 사랑하신 백성 유다가 그들의 죄 때문에 큰 불행을 당한 것이다. 백성들은 그들의 잃어버린 왕을 위하여 애도하지 못하도록 명령받았다. 오히려 급박한 비극에 대하여 애통해하고 곧 그들의 악의 길에서 돌이켜야 했다.

예레미야는 여호야김의 이기적인 생활과 백성의 부정한 정치(13~19절 참조)를 꾸짖었다. 그의 부정은 그의 아버지 요시야의 행적에 비교해 볼 때 분명했다.(15~16절 참조)

나귀 같이 매장된다(19절 참조)는 것은 시체가 땅에 묻히지 않고 땅 위에 방치된다는 뜻이다. 이 예언은 느부갓네살이 예루살렘을 함락하여 여호야김이 포로로 잡혔을 때에 성취되었을 것이다.(열왕기하 24:5~7 주해 편 참조)

레바논과 바산이라는 명칭(예레미야 22:20 참조)은 유다로부터 바벨론으로 가는 이스라엘의 길을 묘사하기 위하여 사용되었다. 마른 바람이 초목을 먹어 버려 초원을 망치듯이(22절) 바벨론이 유다의 목자와 지도자들을 멸하게 될 것이다.

23절은 다소 신랄하다. 레바논의 백향목은 그 고고함과 아름다움 때문에 자주 오만의 상징으로 사용되었다. 여기에서는 유다의 지도자로 상징되고 있는데, 지도자들은 전쟁의 고통을 당할 때 그 고통이 얼마나 클 것인가를 생각해 보라고 명령받았다.
레 22:11 여호와께서 유다 왕 요시야의 아들 곧 그의 아버지 요시야를 이어 왕이 되었다가 이 곳에서 나간 살룸에 대하여 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 그가 이 곳으로 다시 돌아오지 못하고 For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
레 22:12 잡혀 간 곳에서 그가 거기서 죽으리니 이 땅을 다시 보지 못하리라 But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.
레 22:13 불의로 그 집을 세우며 부정하게 그 다락방을 지으며 자기의 이웃을 고용하고 그의 품삯을 주지 아니하는 자에게 화 있을진저 Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
레 22:14 그가 이르기를 내가 나를 위하여 큰 집과 넓은 다락방을 지으리라 하고 자기를 위하여 창문을 만들고 그것에 백향목으로 입히고 붉은 빛으로 칠하도다 That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.
레 22:15 네가 백향목을 많이 사용하여 왕이 될 수 있겠느냐 네 아버지가 먹거나 마시지 아니하였으며 정의와 공의를 행하지 아니하였느냐 그 때에 그가 형통하였었느니라 Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
레 22:16 그는 가난한 자와 궁핍한 자를 변호하고 형통하였나니 이것이 나를 앎이 아니냐 여호와의 말씀이니라 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.
레 22:17 그러나 네 두 눈과 마음은 탐욕과 무죄한 피를 흘림과 압박과 포악을 행하려 할 뿐이니라 But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
레 22:18 그러므로 여호와께서 유다의 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김에게 대하여 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 무리가 그를 위하여 슬프다 내 형제여, 슬프다 내 자매여 하며 통곡하지 아니할 것이며 그를 위하여 슬프다 주여 슬프다 그 영광이여 하며 통곡하지도 아니할 것이라 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!
레 22:19 그가 끌려 예루살렘 문 밖에 던져지고 나귀 같이 매장함을 당하리라 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
레 22:20 너는 레바논에 올라 외치며 바산에서 네 소리를 높이며 아바림에서 외치라 이는 너를 사랑하는 자가 다 멸망하였음이라 Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.
레 22:21 네가 평안할 때에 내가 네게 말하였으나 네 말이 나는 듣지 아니하리라 하였나니 네가 어려서부터 내 목소리를 청종하지 아니함이 네 습관이라 I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.
레 22:22 네 목자들은 다 바람에 삼켜질 것이요 너를 사랑하는 자들은 사로잡혀 가리니 그 때에 네가 반드시 네 모든 악 때문에 수치와 욕을 당하리라 The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
레 22:23 레바논에 살면서 백향목에 깃들이는 자여 여인이 해산하는 고통 같은 고통이 네게 임할 때에 너의 가련함이 얼마나 심하랴 O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!
레 22:24 여호와의 말씀이니라 나의 삶으로 맹세하노니 유다 왕 여호야김의 아들 고니야가 나의 오른손의 인장반지라 할지라도 내가 빼어 As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;

(24-6) 예레미야 22:24~30. 여호야긴은 돌아오지 못할 것이다

여호야김의 아들 여호야긴을 예레미야는 고니야라고 불렀다. 고니야는 인장반지, 곧 권력의 상징이며 보석으로서의 가치를 지닌 반지 또는 도장에 비유되었다. 그런데 고니야, 곧 여호야긴은 그가 하나님께 그 같은 가치가 있더라도 그의 불의한 현 상태에서 그는 느부갓네살의 손에 끌려가 돌아오지 못할 것이라는 말을 듣는다.(25~27절 참조)
레 22:25 네 생명을 찾는 자의 손과 네가 두려워하는 자의 손 곧 바벨론의 왕 느부갓네살의 손과 갈대아인의 손에 줄 것이라 And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
레 22:26 내가 너와 너를 낳은 어머니를 너희가 나지 아니한 다른 지방으로 쫓아내리니 너희가 거기에서 죽으리라 And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
레 22:27 그들이 그들의 마음에 돌아오기를 사모하는 땅에 돌아오지 못하리라 But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.
레 22:28 이 사람 고니야는 천하고 깨진 그릇이냐 좋아하지 아니하는 그릇이냐 어찌하여 그와 그의 자손이 쫓겨나서 알지 못하는 땅에 들어갔는고 Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
레 22:29 땅이여, 땅이여, 땅이여, 여호와의 말을 들을지니라 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
레 22:30 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 너희는 이 사람이 자식이 없겠고 그의 평생 동안 형통하지 못할 자라 기록하라 이는 그의 자손 중 형통하여 다윗의 왕위에 앉아 유다를 다스릴 사람이 다시는 없을 것임이라 하시니라 Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
