 The Lamanites are defeated in a tremendous battle—Tens of thousands are slain—The wicked are consigned to a state of endless woe; the righteous attain a never-ending happiness. [About 76 B.C.] 레이맨인들이 니파이인들에게 싸움을 걸음. 끔찍한 전쟁. 레이맨인의 패배. 깊은 애도.

 AND now it came to pass that after the people of Ammon were established in the land of Jershon, and a church also established in the land of Jershon, and the armies of the Nephites were set round about the land of Jershon, yea, in all the borders round about the land of Zarahemla; behold the armies of the Lamanites had followed their brethren into the wilderness. 28:1.암몬 백성들이 여어손 땅에 정주한 후 교회가 세워졌으며, 니파이 군대가 여어숀 땅 둘레와 제이라헤믈라 땅의 모든 변방에 배치된 후, 보라 레이맨인들이 광야로 저들의 동족 앤타이-니파이-리하이 백성들을 추격해 와,

 And thus there was a tremendous battle; yea, even such an one as never had been known among all the people in the land from the time Lehi left Jerusalem; yea, and tens of thousands of the Lamanites were slain and scattered abroad. 28:2.끔찍한 전쟁이 있었으니, 이 전쟁은 리하이가 예루살렘을 떠난 이래 백성들간에 없었던 큰 전쟁이었으며, 수만 명이나 되는 레이맨인들이 살륙당하고 쫓겨 사방에 흩어졌느니라. 
앨 28:3 또한 니파이 백성 가운데서도 막대한 살육이 있었으나, 그럼에도 레이맨인들은 쫓겨서 흩어졌고, 니파이 백성은 그들의 땅으로 다시 돌아갔더라.

 

 Yea, and also there was a tremendous slaughter among the people of Nephi; nevertheless, the Lamanites were driven and scattered, and the people of Nephi returned again to their land. 28:3.니파이인들에게서도 수많은 희생자가 났으나, 레이맨인들을 쫓아 흩어 버리고 니파이인들은 저희 땅으로 돌아갔더라. 
앨 28:4 또 이제 이는 그 온 땅 도처에 모든 니파이 백성 가운데, 큰 애통과 애곡하는 소리가 들린 때였으니 -

 

 And now this was a time that there was a great mourning and lamentation heard throughout all the land, among all the people of Nephi— 28:4.이 때가 나라 도처에 비통한 슬픔과 곡성이 니파이 백성들 가운데 울린 때였으니, 
앨 28:5 참으로 과부들은 그 남편들로 인하여, 또한 아버지들은 그 아들들로 인하여, 또 딸은 형제로 인하여, 참으로 형제는 아버지로 인하여 애통하는 부르짖음이라. 그리하여 죽임을 당한 그들의 혈족으로 인하여 애통하는 애통의 부르짖음이, 온 백성 가운데 들렸느니라.

 

 Yea, the cry of widows mourning for their husbands, and also of fathers mourning for their sons, and the daughter for the brother, yea, the brother for the father; and thus the cry of mourning was heard among all of them, mourning for their kindred who had been slain. 28:5.과부는 남편의, 아비는 아들의, 딸은 형제들의, 아들은 아비의 죽음을 각각 슬퍼하여, 죽음을 애도하는 백성들의 곡성이 백성들 가운데 들렸느니라. 
앨 28:6 또 이제 이는 정녕 슬픈 날, 엄숙한 때요, 많은 금식과 기도의 때이었더라.

 

 And now surely this was a sorrowful day; yea, a time of solemnity, and a time of much fasting and prayer. 28:6.이 날은 슬픈 날, 모든 사람들이 엄숙해 한 날이었고, 많이 금식하고 기도한 날이었더라. 
앨 28:7 이같이 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제십오년이 끝나니라.

 

 And thus endeth the fifteenth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi; 28:7.이렇게 하여 니파이 백성들의 판사치세 십 오년이 끝났으니, 
앨 28:8 또 이는 암몬과 그의 형제들에 대한 기사라, 니파이 땅에서의 그들의 여정과 그 땅에서의 그들의 수난과 그들의 슬픔과 그들의 고난과 그들의 불가해한 기쁨과 여어숀 땅에서의 형제들의 영접과 안전에 대한 것이니라. 이제 주 곧 만인의 구속주께서 그들의 영혼에 영원토록 복 주시기를 바라노라.

 

 And this is the account of Ammon and his brethren, their journeyings in the land of Nephi, their sufferings in the land, their sorrows, and their afflictions, and their incomprehensible joy, and the reception and safety of the brethren in the land of Jershon. And now may the Lord, the Redeemer of all men, bless their souls forever. 28:8.이것이 암몬과 그의 형제들이 땅을 두루 돌아 다니면서 겪은 고난과 슬픔과 고통과 또한 무엇과도 비할 수 없는 기쁨의 기사요, 앤타이-니파이-리하이 백성들이 여어숀 땅에 용납되어 안전을 찾은 기사라. 만유의 구세주이신 주님께서 이 백성들을 영원토록 축복해 주시기를 간구하노라. 
앨 28:9 또 이는 니파이인들 사이의 전쟁과 다툼과 또한 니파이인들과 레이맨인들 사이의 전쟁의 기사니, 이에 판사 치세 제십오년이 끝났느니라.

 

 And this is the account of the wars and contentions among the Nephites, and also the wars between the Nephites and the Lamanites; and the fifteenth year of the reign of the judges is ended. 28:9.이는 또한 니파이 백성들간의 불화나 전쟁의 기사요, 니파이인과 레이맨인과의 전쟁기사라. 판사치세 십 오년이 이렇게 끝나니라. 
앨 28:10 또 제일년부터 제십오년까지 수천 생명의 멸망이 있었나니, 참으로 그 사이 끔찍한 유혈의 참극이 일어났느니라.

 

 And from the first year to the fifteenth has brought to pass the destruction of many thousand lives; yea, it has brought to pass an awful scene of bloodshed. 28:10.치세 첫 해부터 십 오년까지 수천명이 죽었고, 참혹한 유혈의 참극이 벌어졌었느니라. 
앨 28:11 그리하여 수천의 육신이 땅 속에 낮게 뉘이고, 한편으로는 수천의 육신이 지면 위에서 무더기를 이루어 썩고 있으며, 또한 수천이 그들의 친족을 잃음으로 슬퍼하고 있나니, 이는 주의 약속대로, 그들이 끝없는 재난의 상태에 처하게 됨을 두려워할 만한 이유가 그들에게 있음이라.

 

 And the bodies of many thousands are laid low in the earth, while the bodies of many thousands are moldering in heaps upon the face of the earth; yea, and many thousands are mourning for the loss of their kindred, because they have reason to fear, according to the promises of the Lord, that they are consigned to a state of endless wo. 28:11.수천명의 시체가 땅에 묻히고 다른 수천명의 시체는 땅위에 그대로 쌓여 썩어갔으며 수없이 많은 사람들이 친족을 잃었음을 슬퍼하였으니, 이는 주께서 언약하신 대로 끝없이 비참한 지경에 놓이게 됨을 두려워 함이었더라. 
앨 28:12 한편으로 또 다른 수천은 그들의 친족들을 잃음으로 인하여 진실로 슬퍼함에도 불구하고, 주의 약속대로, 일으킴을 받아, 결코 끝나지 않는 행복의 상태로 하나님 우편에 거하게 된다는 소망 중에, 또 이를 알기까지 하여, 기뻐하고 크게 기뻐하고 있도다.

 

 While many thousands of others truly mourn for the loss of their kindred, yet they rejoice and exult in the hope, and even know, according to the promises of the Lord, that they are raised to dwell at the right hand of God, in a state of never-ending happiness. 28:12.또 다른 사람들은 비록 친족들을 잃은 슬픔을 애도하였으나, 주님께서 행하신 약속대로 주님의 우편에 살도록 들어 올림을 받아 끝없는 행복의 상태로 살 수 있다는 것을 알아 소망중에 희희 낙낙하며 기뻐하였느니라. 
앨 28:13 또 이러므로 우리는 죄와 범법과 악마의 권능으로 인한 사람의 차이가 얼마나 큰가를 알게 되나니, 그것은 그가 사람들의 마음을 올무로 잡듯 하려고 고안해 낸 간교한 계획에 의해서 오느니라.

 

 And thus we see how great the inequality of man is because of sin and transgression, and the power of the devil, which comes by the cunning plans which he hath devised to ensnare the hearts of men. 28:13.이로써 우리는 사람이 죄나 범법으로, 그리고 마귀의 능력으로 얼마만큼 달라질 수 있는가를 알 수 있으니, 마귀의 힘은 인간의 마음을 꾀이려 간교한 계획으로 숨어 들어 오느니라. 
앨 28:14 또 이러므로 우리는 사람들이 부지런히 주의 포도원에서 일해야 한다는 큰 부름을 알게 되며, 또 이리하여 우리는 슬픔과 또한 기뻐함의 큰 이유를 알게 되나니, 슬픔은 사람들 가운데 죽음과 멸망으로 말미암으며 기쁨은 생명에 이르는 그리스도의 빛으로 말미암느니라.

 

 And thus we see the great call of diligence of men to labor in the vineyards of the Lord; and thus we see the great reason of sorrow, and also of rejoicing—sorrow because of death and destruction among men, and joy because of the light of Christ unto life. 28:14.우리는 이제 우리가 주의 포도원에서 부지런히 일해야 한다는 부르심의 의미가 크다는 것을 알 수 있으며, 슬픔과 기쁨이 무엇인가도 아나니, 슬픔은 죽음과 멸망에서 비롯함이요, 생명에 이르는 그리스도의 빛은 기쁨을 가져오느니라.
