 Moroni asks Pahoran to strengthen the forces of Helaman—The Lamanites take the city of Nephihah—Moroni is angry with the government. [About 62 B.C.] 모로나이가 페이호랜에게 편지를 써서 힐라맨에게 증원병을 보내도록 전함. 니파이하 성이 레이맨인들에게 함락됨. 정부의 무관심에 대한 모로나이의 진노. 
앨 59:1 이제 이렇게 되었나니 니파이 백성에 대한 판사 치세 제삼십년에 모로나이가 힐라맨의 서신을 받아 읽고 나서, 힐라맨의 복리, 곧 그가 잃었던 땅들을 손에 넣는 큰 성공을 거두었음으로 인하여 심히 기쁘게 되었더라.

 

 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi, after Moroni had received and had read Helaman's epistle, he was exceedingly rejoiced because of the welfare, yea, the exceeding success which Helaman had had, in obtaining those lands which were lost. 59:1.니파이 백성들의 판사치세 삼십년, 모로나이가 힐라맨의 편지를 받고 힐라맨이 잃었던 땅들을 되찾은 놀라운 복리를 가져온 것을 알아 심히 기뻐하여, 
앨 59:2 또한 그가 있는 지역의 주변 온 땅에 있는 그의 모든 백성들에게 이를 알려, 그들로도 기뻐하게 하였더라.

 

 Yea, and he did make it known unto all his people, in all the land round about in that part where he was, that they might rejoice also. 59:2.기쁨을 함께 나누고자 그가 있던 지역 방방곡곡의 모든 백성들에게 이 사실을 발표하였고, 
앨 59:3 또 이렇게 되었나니 그가 즉시 페이호랜에게 서신을 보내어, 군사를 모아 힐라맨, 곧 힐라맨의 군대를 더 강화하여 그로 하여금 그처럼 기적적으로 형통하여 되찾은 지역을 쉽게 지킬 수 있게 해 주기를 요청하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that he immediately sent an epistle to Pahoran, desiring that he should cause men to be gathered together to strengthen Helaman, or the armies of Helaman, insomuch that he might with ease maintain that part of the land which he had been so miraculously prospered in regaining. 59:3.즉시 페이호랜에게 서한을 보내어 군사를 모아 힐라맨과 그의 군대에게로 보내 저들을 증강시켜, 기적적인 힘으로 탈환한 땅들을 쉽게 지킬 수 있게 해주기를 요청하였느니라. 
앨 59:4 또 이렇게 되었나니 모로나이는 이러한 서신을 제이라헤믈라 땅에 보내고 나서, 레이맨인들이 그들에게서 빼앗은 그 나머지 소유지와 성읍들을 손에 넣을 계획을 다시 세우기 시작하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass when Moroni had sent this epistle to the land of Zarahemla, he began again to lay a plan that he might obtain the remainder of those possessions and cities which the Lamanites had taken from them. 59:4.모로나이가 이러한 서한을 제이라헤믈라 땅으로 보내고 나서도 레이맨인들에게 빼앗긴 나머지 땅들을 되찾을 방도를 궁리하였더라. 
앨 59:5 그리고 이렇게 되었나니 이처럼 모로나이가 레이맨인들을 대적하여 싸우러 갈 준비를 하고 있을 때, 보라, 모로나이 성과 리하이 성과 모리앤톤 성으로부터 함께 모인 니파이하 백성들이 레이맨인들의 공격을 받았느니라.

 

 And it came to pass that while Moroni was thus making preparations to go against the Lamanites to battle, behold, the people of Nephihah, who were gathered together from the city of Moroni and the city of Lehi and the city of Morianton, were attacked by the Lamanites. 59:5.이처럼 모로나이가 레이맨인들을 무찌를 싸움을 준비하고 있을 때, 보라 모로나이 성과 리하이 성과 모리앤톤 성에서 모여든 니파이하 백성들이 레이맨인의 공격을 받았나니, 
앨 59:6 참으로 맨타이 성과 그 주변의 땅에서 도망하지 않을 수 없었던 자들이 와서, 이 지역의 레이맨인들과 합세하였었더라.

 

 Yea, even those who had been compelled to flee from the land of Manti, and from the land round about, had come over and joined the Lamanites in this part of the land. 59:6.맨타이 성에서 쫓겨나 도망하던 레이맨인들과 그 주변의 레이맨인들이 이쪽으로 침공한 레이맨인들과 합세 하였느니라. 
앨 59:7 이리하여 심히 수효가 많아진데다가 참으로 매일 병력을 받고 있던 차에, 앰모론의 명령으로 그들은 니파이하 백성을 치러 나아와 심히 큰 살육으로 그들을 도륙하기 시작하더라.

 

And thus being exceedingly numerous, yea, and receiving strength from day to day, by the command of Ammoron they came forth against the people of Nephihah, and they did begin to slay them with an exceedingly great slaughter.

 59:7.이렇게 하여 무섭게 숫자가 늘어난 위에 매일 원군을 받아, 마침내 앰모론의 명령으로 니파이하 백성들에게 몰려와 대살륙을 감행하였더라. 
앨 59:8 또 그들의 군대는 수효가 심히 많아 나머지 니파이하 백성들이 부득이 그들 앞에서 도망하지 않을 수 없었나니, 이에 저들이 와서 모로나이의 군대에 합류하였더라.

 

 And their armies were so numerous that the remainder of the people of Nephihah were obliged to flee before them; and they came even and joined the army of Moroni. 59:8.저들의 군대가 헤아릴 수 없이 많아 니파이하 백성의 잔류민들은 저들에게서 달아나지 않을 수 없었으매, 모로나이 군대가 있는 곳으로 와서 이들과 합세하였더라. 
앨 59:9 또 이제 모로나이는 병사들이 니파이하 성으로 보냄을 받아 백성을 도와 그 성을 지킬 것으로 생각하였고, 또 성을 레이맨인들 수중에 함락되기 전에 지키는 것이 그들에게서 탈환하기보다 쉽다는 것을 알고 있었으므로, 모로나이는 그들이 쉽게 그 성을 지킬 것이라 생각하였더라.

 

 And now as Moroni had supposed that there should be men sent to the city of Nephihah, to the assistance of the people to maintain that city, and knowing that it was easier to keep the city from falling into the hands of the Lamanites than to retake it from them, he supposed that they would easily maintain that city. 59:9.레이맨인들에게 한번 빼앗긴 성을 탈환하기 보다는 레이맨인들 수중에 들어가기 전에 성을 지키는 일이 쉽다는 것을 알았던지라 모로나이는 틀림없이 니파이하 성으로 증원군을 보내어 그곳을 지키는 자들을 지원해줘야 한다고 생각하였으며, 그렇게 함으로써 쉽게 그곳을지킬 수 있으리라고 생각하였느니라. 
앨 59:10 그리하여 그는 자기가 회복했던 곳들을 지키기 위하여 자기의 전 병력을 보유하고 있었더라.

 

 Therefore he retained all his force to maintain those places which he had recovered. 59:10.그리하여 모로나이는 전 병력을 동원하여 탈환한 지역을 지키게 한 것이라. 
앨 59:11 그런데 이제 니파이하 성이 잃은 바 된 것을 보고는 모로나이는 심히 슬퍼져서, 백성들의 간악함으로 인하여 그들이 그 형제들의 수중에 빠지지 않을까 의심하기 시작하였더라.

 

 And now, when Moroni saw that the city of Nephihah was lost he was exceedingly sorrowful, and began to doubt, because of the wickedness of the people, whether they should not fall into the hands of their brethren. 59:11.모로나이가 니파이하 성의 함락의 소식을 듣고는 크게 슬퍼하며 백성들이 완악하여 동족의 수중에 떨어져 멸하게 되지 않을까를 우려하기 시작 하였느니라. 
앨 59:12 이제 이는 그의 총대장들의 경우도 다 마찬가지라, 그들은 백성들의 간악함으로 인하여 의심하며 또한 기이히 여겼으니, 이는 그들에 대한 레이맨인들의 성공으로 인함이었더라.

 

 Now this was the case with all his chief captains. They doubted and marveled also because of the wickedness of the people, and this because of the success of the Lamanites over them. 59:12.니파이군 대장들의 심정도 이러하였으니, 백성들이 이미 완악해진지라 레이맨인들이 이들을 쳐 이긴 일을 슬퍼하며 우려하기 시작한 것이었더라. 
앨 59:13 이에 모로나이는 자기 나라의 자유에 관한 정부의 무관심으로 인하여 정부에 대하여 노하게 되었더라.

 

 And it came to pass that Moroni was angry with the government, because of their indifference concerning the freedom of their country. 59:13.이에 모로나이는 나라의 자유에 무관심한 정부에 대하여 크게 노하게 되었더라.
