 The sons of Mosiah have the spirit of prophecy and of revelation—They go their several ways to declare the word to the Lamanites—Ammon goes to the land of Ishmael and becomes the servant of King Lamoni—Ammon saves the king’s flocks and slays his enemies at the waters of Sebus. [From about 91 to 77 B.C.] 이스마엘 땅의 암몬. 그가 라모나이 왕의 종이 됨. 용감하게 왕의 가축떼를 지킴. 
앨 17:1 또 이제 이렇게 되었나니 앨마가 기드온 땅에서, 남방으로 멀리 맨타이 땅으로 여행하고 있을 때, 보라 놀랍게도 제이라헤믈라 땅을 향해 여행하고 있던 모사이야의 아들들을 만났더라.

 

 AND now it came to pass that as Alma was journeying from the land of Gideon southward, away to the land of Manti, behold, to his astonishment, he met with the sons of Mosiah journeying towards the land of Zarahemla. 17:1.앨마가 멀리 맨타이 땅으로 가려고 기드온 남쪽땅을 지나고 있을때, 보라 제이라헤믈라를 향해 오던 모사이야의 아들들을 만나 놀라더라. 
앨 17:2 이제 이 모사이야의 아들들은 천사가 처음 앨마에게 나타났을 때 그와 함께 있었던지라, 그러므로 앨마가 그의 형제들을 보고 심히 기뻐하였더라. 또 그의 기쁨을 더욱 더하게 한 것은, 그들이 아직도 주 안에서 그의 형제였음이요, 그뿐 아니라 그들은 진리의 지식에 있어 강해져 있었나니, 이는 그들이 온전한 이해력을 가진 사람들이었고, 하나님의 말씀을 알고자, 부지런히 경전을 상고하였음이더라.

 

 Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. 17:2.이들 모사이야의 아들들은 앨마에게 처음으로 천사가 나타났을때 함께 있던 자들이라. 이들을 만나게 된 앨마는 대단히 기뻐하였고, 앨마를 더욱 기쁘게 한 것은 그들이 아직도 주님 뜻 가운데서 자기와 형제라는 사실을 알게 됨이더라. 이들은 하나님의 말씀을 배우고자 열심으로 경전을 연구한 사람들인지라 진리에 대한 깊은 이해로 더욱 강하게 뭉쳐졌더라. 
앨 17:3 그러나 이것이 모두가 아니니, 그들은 많은 기도와 금식에 힘썼었고 그리하여 예언의 영과 계시의 영을 지니게 되어, 가르칠 때는 하나님의 권능과 권세로 가르쳤더라.

 

 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God. 17:3.그 뿐 아니라 열심으로 금식하고 기도하여 예언과 계시의 영을 지니게 되었고 가르칠때는 하나님의 권능과 권위로 가르쳤느니라. 
앨 17:4 또 그들은 십사 년 동안 레이맨인들 가운데서 하나님의 말씀을 가르쳐 왔었고, 많은 성공을 거두어 많은 자들을 인도하여 진리의 지식에 이르게 하였나니, 참으로 그들의 말씀의 권능으로 많은 자들이 하나님의 단 앞으로 인도되어, 그의 이름을 부르며 그의 앞에 자기의 죄를 고백하게 되었더라.

 

And they had been teaching the word of God for the space of fourteen years among the Lamanites, having had much success in bringing many to the knowledge of the truth; yea, by the power of their words many were brought before the altar of God, to call on his name and confess their sins before him.

'had been' 을 '~었었다' 로 번역한 곳은 몰몬경 총 235구절 가운데 니후5:19, 야곱1:5, 모사23:30, 27:30, 앨17:4, 46:5, 53:11, 12, 21, 56:10, 47, 힐16:5, 3니6:18, 8:7, 이더14:21 등 15 구절이 전부이다.  나머지는 모두 과거형 또는 현재형으로 번역되었다.

 17:4.모사이야의 아들들은 십사년 동안이나 레이맨인들에게 하나님의 말씀을 가르쳐 많은 사람들에게 복음의 지식을 넣어 주었으니, 참으로 저들의 말의 능력으로 많은 사람들을 하나님의 단 앞에 인도하였고, 하나님의 이름을 간구하며 자기들의 죄를 고백하게 하였느니라. 
앨 17:5 이제 이는 그들의 여행에서 그들에게 수반된 상황이니, 이는 그들이 많은 고난을 겪었음이라, 그들은 육신으로나 정신적으로, 많은 노고를 겪었었나니, 곧 굶주림, 목마름, 그리고 피로와, 또한 영으로 많은 애를 씀과 같은 것이라.

 

 Now these are the circumstances which attended them in their journeyings, for they had many afflictions; they did suffer much, both in body and in mind, such as hunger, thirst and fatigue, and also much labor in the spirit. 17:5.여행하는 동안에 저들은 많은 고난을 겪었으니, 때로는 굶주리고 목마르고 피로하여 심신의 고통이 컸으며, 영적으로도 많은 괴로움을 받았더라. 
앨 17:6 이제 그들의 여행은 이러하였더라. 나라를 거절하고, 판사 원년에 그 부친 모사이야를 작별하였나니, 나라를 그들의 부친은 그들에게 넘겨 주기 원하였고, 이 또한 백성의 생각이기도 하였으나,

 

 Now these were their journeyings: Having taken leave of their father, Mosiah, in the first year of the judges; having refused the kingdom which their father was desirous to confer upon them, and also this was the minds of the people; 17:6.저들의 여행은 이러하니라. 저들의 부친 모사이야와 백성들이 한결같이 저들에게 왕위를 이양하려 하였으나 이를 거절하고 판사치세 첫해에 부친 모사이야의 곁을 떠났으며, 
앨 17:7 그럼에도 불구하고 그들이 제이라헤믈라 땅을 떠나, 그들의 칼과 그들의 창과 그들의 활과 그들의 화살과 그들의 물매를 취하였으니, 그들이 이렇게 한 것은 광야에 있는 동안 스스로를 위하여 먹을 것을 마련하고자 함이었더라.

 

 Nevertheless they departed out of the land of Zarahemla, and took their swords, and their spears, and their bows, and their arrows, and their slings; and this they did that they might provide food for themselves while in the wilderness. 17:7.제이라헤믈라를 떠날때에 칼과 창, 활과 화살, 투석기 등을 가져간 것은 광야를 지날때 먹을 것을 장만하기 위함이었느니라. 
앨 17:8 이같이 그들은 니파이 땅으로 올라가, 레이맨인들에게 하나님의 말씀을 전파하고자, 그들이 선택한 그들의 일행과 더불어 광야로 떠났더라.

 

 And thus they departed into the wilderness with their numbers which they had selected, to go up to the land of Nephi, to preach the word of God unto the Lamanites. 17:8.이렇게 레이맨인들에게 하나님의 말씀을 가르치며 니파이 땅으로 올라갈때 동행하려고 몇몇 사람을 택하여 데리고 광야를 향해 길을 떠났으며, 
앨 17:9 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 여러 날 광야를 여행하며, 많이 금식하고 많이 기도하여 주께서 그의 영의 일부를 그들에게 주사 그들과 함께 가게 하시고, 그들과 함께 거하게 하사, 그들이 하나님의 손에 든 도구가 되어, 가능하다면 그들의 형제 레이맨인들에게 진리를 알게 하고 올바르지 아니한 그들 조상의 전통의 비속함을 알게 하도록 해 주시기를 간구하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they journeyed many days in the wilderness, and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his Spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth, to the knowledge of the baseness of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct. 17:9.여러 날 동안 광야를 여행하며 하나님께, 자기들 위에 영을 내리사 저들과 동행케 하시며, 저들을 하나님께서, 친히 쓰시는 도구로 삼으시도록 열심으로 금식하고 기도하였으며, 할수만 있다면 저들의 형제인 레이맨인들에게 저들 조상의 전통적인 가르침이 틀리다는 것을 가르치고 진리의 뜻을 가르치게 해 달라고 간구하였더니, 
앨 17:10 이에 이렇게 되었나니 주께서 그의 영으로 그들을 돌아보시고, 그들에게 이르시되, 위안을 받을지어다 하시니, 그들이 위안을 받더라.

 

 And it came to pass that the Lord did visit them with his Spirit, and said unto them: Be comforted. And they were comforted. 17:10.주님께서 그의 영을 저들에게 보내어 이르시기를, 평강이 있을 지어다 하시니, 저희가 마음에 위로를 받더라. 
앨 17:11 이에 주께서 또한 그들에게 이르시되, 네 형제 레이맨인들 가운데 나아가, 나의 말을 확립하라. 그리하되 너희는 오래 참음과 고난 중에 인내하여, 내 안에서 그들에게 선한 본을 보일지니, 그리하면 내가 너로 내 손에 든 도구를 삼아 많은 영혼을 구원하게 하리라 하시니라.

 

 And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of many souls. 17:11.또한 주께서 저들에게 말씀하시기를 너희 형제인 레이맨인들에게로 가서 오래 참으며 고난을 견디며, 고통을 이기며, 고통을 이기면서 내가 가르친 훌륭한 모범을 저들에게 보여, 내 말을 이루게 하라. 그리하면 너희를 내 손의 도구로 삼아 많은 영육을 구원하리라 하시니, 
앨 17:12 이에 이렇게 되었나니 모사이야의 아들들과 또한 그들과 함께 한 자들의 마음이 레이맨인들에게 나아가 그들에게 하나님의 말씀을 선포할 용기를 얻었더라.

 

 And it came to pass that the hearts of the sons of Mosiah, and also those who were with them, took courage to go forth unto the Lamanites to declare unto them the word of God. 17:12.모사이야의 아들들과 이들의 동행인의 가슴에 레이맨인들에게로 나아가 주님의 말씀을 외칠 용기가 생겨났더라. 
앨 17:13 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 레이맨인들의 땅 경계에 도착하였을 때, 주 안에서 그들이 추수의 마감 때에 다시 만나게 될 것을 주 안에서 신뢰하며, 각기 헤어져 서로에게서 떠났으니, 이는 그들이 시작한 일이 실로 크다고, 그들이 생각하였음이라.

 

 And it came to pass when they had arrived in the borders of the land of the Lamanites, that they separated themselves and departed one from another, trusting in the Lord that they should meet again at the close of their harvest; for they supposed that great was the work which they had undertaken. 17:13.그리하여 저들이 레이맨인들의 나라 변방에 도착하여, 저들의 추수가 끝날때 주님께서 저들을 다시 한데 모아 주시리라는 것을 확신하면서 헤어져 각각 저가 가고 싶은 대로 흩어져 갔으니, 이는 저들이 하려는 일이 훌륭한 일이라고 확실하게 생각한 때문이라. 
앨 17:14 그리고 정녕 그 일은 큰 일이었나니, 이는 그들이 거칠고 완악하며 흉포한 백성, 니파이인들을 살해하며, 그들의 것을 빼앗고 약탈하기를 기뻐하는 백성에게 하나님의 말씀 전파하기를 시작하였음이라. 또 그들은 그 마음을 재물에 곧 금과 은과 보석에 두었고, 더욱이 살인하고 약탈함으로써 이러한 것을 얻기를 구하였나니, 이는 그들 스스로의 손으로 그러한 것을 위하여 일하지 아니하고자 함이라.

그리고 정녕 그 일은 큰 일이었나니, 이는 그들이 거칠고 완악하며 흉포한 백성, 니파이인들을 살해하며, 그들의 것을 빼앗고 약탈하기를 기뻐하는 백성에게 하나님의 말씀 전파하기를 시작하였음이라. 또 그들은 그 마음을 재물에 곧 금과 은과 보석에 두었고, 더욱이 살인하고 약탈함으로써 이러한 것을 얻기를 구하였나니, 이는 그들이 그러한 것을 위하여 손수 일하지 아니하고자 함이라.

 And assuredly it was great, for they had undertaken to preach the word of God to a wild and a hardened and a ferocious people; a people who delighted in murdering the Nephites, and robbing and plundering them; and their hearts were set upon riches, or upon gold and silver, and precious stones; yet they sought to obtain these things by murdering and plundering, that they might not labor for them with their own hands. 17:14.참으로 이와 같이 마음이 거칠고 강퍅하며 흉악한 백성들에게 하나님의 말씀을 가르치는 일은 훌륭한 일이었으니 이들은 니파이인들을 죽이며 니파이인들의 물건을 훔치며, 약탈하기를 즐기는 백성들이었고, 저들의 마음을 금은 보화와 같은 세상의 부에 두면서도 이러한 것들을 얻으려 손수 일하려 하지 않고, 남을 죽이며 약탈하더라. 
앨 17:15 이리하여 그들은 몹시 게으른 백성이었고, 그들 중 많은 자들이 우상을 섬겼으며, 그들 조상들의 전통 까닭에 하나님의 저주가 그들에게 내렸으나, 그럼에도 불구하고 주의 약속들은 회개의 조건하에 그들에게 주어졌느니라.

 

 Thus they were a very indolent people, many of whom did worship idols, and the curse of God had fallen upon them because of the traditions of their fathers; notwithstanding the promises of the Lord were extended unto them on the conditions of repentance. 17:15.이와같이 저들은 아주 게으른 백성이었고 대부분은 우상을 섬기고, 잘못된 조상의 전통적인 가르침을 좇아 주님의 저주를 입은 백성이라. 그러나 회개하면 이들을 구원해 주실 주님의 약속이 있었느니라. 
앨 17:16 그러므로 모사이야의 아들들이 그 일을 시작한 까닭은 이것이었나니, 혹 그들을 회개로 인도하여, 혹 그들로 구속의 계획을 알게 하고자 함이라.

 

 Therefore, this was the cause for which the sons of Mosiah had undertaken the work, that perhaps they might bring them unto repentance; that perhaps they might bring them to know of the plan of redemption. 17:16.그러므로 모사이야의 아들들은 저들에게 구속의 계획을 가르쳐 회개시키려 이러한 일을 시작하게 되었느니라. 
앨 17:17 그리하여 그들은 서로 헤어져, 각 사람이 자기에게 주어진 하나님의 말씀과 권능을 좇아, 홀로 그들 가운데 나아갔더라.

 

 Therefore they separated themselves one from another, and went forth among them, every man alone, according to the word and power of God which was given unto him. 17:17.그리하여 각각 저들에게 내려주신 하나님의 말씀과 권능에 따라 한 사람씩 따로 따로 헤어져 레이맨인들에게로 들어 갔더라. 
앨 17:18 이제 암몬은 그들 중 우두머리요, 곧 다시 말해서 그들에게 성역을 베풀더니, 자신이 떠나기 전에 그들을 그 각각의 위치에 따라 축복하고, 그들에게 하나님의 말씀을 나누어 준 후, 곧 그들에게 성역을 베푼 후 그들을 떠났나니, 이같이 그들은 각기 따로 그 땅을 두루 여행하였더라.

 

 Now Ammon being the chief among them, or rather he did administer unto them, and he departed from them, after having blessed them according to their several stations, having imparted the word of God unto them, or administered unto them before his departure; and thus they took their several journeys throughout the land. 17:18.암몬이 일행 중 윗사람이었고, 윗 사람이면서 저들을 축복하고 주님의 말씀을 상기시키며 제각기 흩어져가는 저들의 길을 축복해 준 다음 그도 저의 길을 갔으니, 모두들 이렇게 저마다 제가 갈 곳으로 레이맨의 나라에 흩어져 들어갔더라. 
앨 17:19 이에 암몬이 이스마엘 땅으로 갔으니, 이 땅은 역시 레이맨인이 된 이스마엘의 아들들의 이름을 따라 일컫는 곳이라.

 

 And Ammon went to the land of Ishmael, the land being called after the sons of Ishmael, who also became Lamanites. 17:19.암몬은 역시 레이맨인이 된 이스마엘의 아들들의 이름을 따 이스마엘이라고 하는 이스마엘의 땅으로 들어감에, 
앨 17:20 이에 암몬이 이스마엘 땅에 들어가매, 레이맨인들이 그를 잡아 결박하니, 이는 그들의 수중에 든 니파이인들을 모두 결박하여, 왕 앞으로 데려 가는 그들의 관례대로더라. 이리하여 그의 뜻과 의향대로, 그들을 죽이든지, 사로잡아 두든지, 옥에 던져 넣든지, 그의 땅에서 쫓아내든지, 왕의 의향에 맡겨졌더라.

 

 And as Ammon entered the land of Ishmael, the Lamanites took him and bound him, as was their custom to bind all the Nephites who fell into their hands, and carry them before the king; and thus it was left to the pleasure of the king to slay them, or to retain them in captivity, or to cast them into prison, or to cast them out of his land, according to his will and pleasure. 17:20.암몬이 이스마엘의 땅에 들어가자마자, 수중에 잡히는 니파이인들은 모두 붙들어 결박하여 왕에게로 끌고가는 저들의 관습대로 암몬을 붙들어 결박하였더라. 이렇게되면 전혀 왕이 좋은대로 죽여 없애든지, 인질로 잡아 두든지, 감옥에 가두든지 저희들 땅에서 내어 쫓든지 내키는대로 하였느니라. 
앨 17:21 이에 이리하여 암몬이 이스마엘 땅을 다스리는 왕 앞에 끌려가니, 그의 이름은 라모나이요, 그는 이스마엘의 후손이더라.

 

 And thus Ammon was carried before the king who was over the land of Ishmael; and his name was Lamoni; and he was a descendant of Ishmael. 17:21.이런 연유로, 암몬이 이스마엘땅을 다스리는 왕앞에 끌려 갔으니, 왕의 이름은 라모나이요 이스마엘의 후예라. 
앨 17:22 이에 왕이 암몬에게 혹 그 땅에서 레이맨인들 중에, 아니면 그의 백성 중에 거하는 것이 그의 바람인지 묻더라.

 

 And the king inquired of Ammon if it were his desire to dwell in the land among the Lamanites, or among his people. 17:22.저가 암몬에게 레이맨인인 자기 백성들과 함께 그 땅에서 살지 않겠느냐고 물으니, 
앨 17:23 이에 암몬이 그에게 이르되, 그러하오이다, 나는 한동안, 그뿐 아니라 아마도 죽는 날까지 이 백성 가운데 거하기를 원하나이다 하더라.

 

 And Ammon said unto him: Yea, I desire to dwell among this people for a time; yea, and perhaps until the day I die. 17:23.암몬이 그에게 대답하기를 예, 오래도록, 아니 죽는날까지 이 백성들과 이곳에서 살겠나이다 하더라. 
앨 17:24 이에 이렇게 되었나니 라모나이 왕이 암몬을 몹시 기뻐하여, 그의 결박을 풀어 주게 하고, 암몬이 자기의 딸 가운데 하나를 아내로 취하기를 원하였더라.

 

 And it came to pass that king Lamoni was much pleased with Ammon, and caused that his bands should be loosed; and he would that Ammon should take one of his daughters to wife. 17:24.라모나이왕은 암몬이 매우 마음에들어 결박한 줄을 풀어주고 저의 딸 하나를 아내로 맞으라 하였으나, 
앨 17:25 그러나 암몬이 그에게 이르되, 그리 마옵소서, 하지만 내가 왕의 종이 되리이다 하였더라. 그러므로 암몬이 라모나이 왕의 종이 되니라. 이에 이렇게 되었나니 레이맨인들의 관습을 좇아, 그를 다른 종들 가운데 두어 라모나이의 양 떼를 지키게 하였더라.

 

 But Ammon said unto him: Nay, but I will be thy servant. Therefore Ammon became a servant to king Lamoni. And it came to pass that he was set among other servants to watch the flocks of Lamoni, according to the custom of the Lamanites. 17:25.암몬이 왕에게 이르기를, 그렇게는 못하겠으니 당신의 종으로 삼으소서 하니, 라모나이왕이 저를 그의 종으로 삼아, 레이맨 백성들의 관례대로 다른 종들과 더불어 양떼를 지키게 하였더라. 
앨 17:26 이에 그가 왕을 섬겨 사흘을 지낸 후, 저희 양 떼와 더불어 시부스 물이라 하는, 물 있는 곳으로 나아가는 레이맨인 종들과 함께 하였더니, 그 곳은 모든 레이맨인들이 물을 얻으러, 그들의 양 떼를 몰아오는 곳이라 -

 

 And after he had been in the service of the king three days, as he was with the Lamanitish servants going forth with their flocks to the place of water, which was called the water of Sebus, and all the Lamanites drive their flocks hither, that they may have water— 17:26.왕의 종으로 사흘을 지낸 후, 다른 레이맨인 종들과 함께 시부스라는 샘으로 양떼를 몰고가니, 이곳은 모든 레이맨인들이 각기 저들의 양을 몰고와서 물을 먹이는 곳이라. 
앨 17:27 그러므로 암몬과 왕의 종들이 이 물 있는 곳으로 그들의 양 떼를 몰아가고 있을 때, 보라 자기 양 떼와 더불어 물에 와 있던 레이맨인 몇몇이 서서, 암몬과 왕의 종들의 양 떼를 흩으니, 그들이 흩으매 양 떼가 여러 길로 도망한지라.

 

 Therefore, as Ammon and the servants of the king were driving forth their flocks to this place of water, behold, a certain number of the Lamanites, who had been with their flocks to water, stood and scattered the flocks of Ammon and the servants of the king, and they scattered them insomuch that they fled many ways. 17:27.암몬이 왕의 다른 종들과 같이 물가로 양떼를 몰아 갔을때, 보라 저들보다 먼저 물가에 양을 몰고온 레이맨인 몇 사람이 가로막고 서서 왕의 종과 암몬의 양떼를 쫓아 사면팔방으로 흩어져 도망치게하니, 
앨 17:28 이제 왕의 종들이 울먹이기 시작하여 이르되, 이제 왕이 우리의 형제들을 죽인 것과 마찬가지로, 우리를 죽이리니, 그들의 양 떼가 이 사람들의 간악함에 의해 흩어진 연고로 왕이 그들을 죽였느니라 하고, 심히 울기 시작하여 이르되, 보라 우리의 양 떼는 이미 흩어졌도다 하더라.

 

 Now the servants of the king began to murmur, saying: Now the king will slay us, as he has our brethren because their flocks were scattered by the wickedness of these men. And they began to weep exceedingly, saying: Behold, our flocks are scattered already. 17:28.왕의 종들이 탄식하며 말하기를, 이 못된 놈들이 양을 쫓아 우리 형제들을 왕의 손에 죽게 하더니, 이젠 왕이 우리를 죽이겠구나, 하며 더욱 슬피 울면서, 보라 양떼들은 벌써 다 흩어져 버렸도다 하며, 
앨 17:29 이제 그들이 운 것은 죽임을 당할 것을 두려워한 연고더라. 이제 암몬이 이를 보고 그 마음이 속에서 기쁨으로 부풀었나니, 이는 그가 말하기를, 내가 나의 이 동료 종들에게 나의 능력, 곧 내 안에 있는 능력을 보여, 양 떼를 왕에게로 회복하여, 내 이 동료 종들의 마음을 얻어, 그들을 인도하여 내 말을 믿게 하리라 하였음이라.

 

 Now they wept because of the fear of being slain. Now when Ammon saw this his heart was swollen within him with joy; for, said he, I will show forth my power unto these my fellow-servants, or the power which is in me, in restoring these flocks unto the king, that I may win the hearts of these my fellow-servants, that I may lead them to believe in my words. 17:29.왕이 저희를 죽일 것을 염려하여 통곡하였으니, 암몬이 이를 보고 마음에 기쁨이 충만하여 속으로 다짐하기를, 내가 흩어진 양떼를 모아, 나의 능력, 아니 내게 허가된 능력을 이 동료 종들에게 보여 저들의 마음을 사서 내가 가르치는 말을 믿게 하리라 하였으니, 
앨 17:30 이제 이러한 것이 암몬이 자기 형제라 칭한 자들의 고난을 보았을 때, 그가 가진 생각이었더라.

 

 And now, these were the thoughts of Ammon, when he saw the afflictions of those whom he termed to be his brethren. 17:30.저가 친형제처럼 부르는 자들이 근심하는 것을 보며 암몬이 이런것들을 마음속으로 생각하였느니라. 
앨 17:31 이에 이렇게 되었나니 암몬이 자기의 말로 그들을 달래어 이르되, 내 형제들아, 기운을 내라 그리고 양 떼를 찾으러 가자, 우리는 양 떼를 함께 모아 물 있는 곳으로 도로 데려오리니, 이같이 우리가 왕을 위하여 양 떼를 보전하면 그가 우리를 죽이지 아니하리라.

 

 And it came to pass that he flattered them by his words, saying: My brethren, be of good cheer and let us go in search of the flocks, and we will gather them together and bring them back unto the place of water; and thus we will preserve the flocks unto the king and he will not slay us. 17:31.그리하여 암몬이 저들을 위로하며 말하기를, 형제들아 걱정하지말고 양떼를 찾으러 가자. 분명히 양떼를 모두 모아 다시 물가로 데려 오리라. 왕의 양을 잘 지키기만 하면 그가 우리를 죽이지 않을게 아니냐 하니, 
앨 17:32 이에 이렇게 되었나니 그들이 양 떼를 찾으러 가며, 암몬을 따르더니, 그들이 몹시 빠르게 앞으로 내달아 왕의 양 떼를 가로막아, 그것들을 다시 물 있는 곳으로 함께 모았더라.

 

 And it came to pass that they went in search of the flocks, and they did follow Ammon, and they rushed forth with much swiftness and did head the flocks of the king, and did gather them together again to the place of water. 17:32.저들이 암몬을 따라 양떼를 찾으러 나섰더라. 저들이 재빨리 앞으로 달려가 흩어진 양떼의 앞길을 막아 왕의 양들을 한데 모은다음 다시 물가로 몰아 왔느니라. 
앨 17:33 이에 그 사람들이 다시 서서 그들의 양 떼를 흩으려 하거늘, 암몬이 그의 형제들에게 이르되, 양 떼를 에워싸서 도망가지 못하게 하라, 나는 가서 우리 양 떼를 흩는 이 사람들과 더불어 싸우겠노라 하더라.

 

 And those men again stood to scatter their flocks; but Ammon said unto his brethren: Encircle the flocks round about that they flee not; and I go and contend with these men who do scatter our flocks. 17:33.이에 먼저 그자들이 다시 양떼를 흩으려 가로 막음에, 암몬이 그의 동료들에게 너희는 양떼가 흩어지지 않도록 둘러서 있으라. 내가 저 양떼를 흩으려는 자들을 처치하겠노라 하니, 
앨 17:34 그러므로 그들이 암몬이 그들에게 명하는 대로 하매, 암몬이 나아가 시부스 물가에 선 자들과 더불어 싸우려고 서니, 저들의 수가 적지 아니하더라.

 

 Therefore, they did as Ammon commanded them, and he went forth and stood to contend with those who stood by the waters of Sebus; and they were in number not a few. 17:34.동료들은 암몬이 시키는 대로 하였고 암몬은 시부스 샘가에 모여선 여러사람 앞으로 싸우러 나아갔으니, 그 수가 적지 않더라. 
앨 17:35 그러므로 저들이 암몬을 두려워 아니하였으니, 이는 저들 중 하나가 저들 뜻대로 그를 죽일 수 있다고 생각하였음이라. 이는 주께서 모사이야에게 그 아들들을 저들의 손에서 구원하시겠다고 약속하신 줄을 저들이 알지 못하였음이요, 주께 관하여도 저들이 아무것도 알지 못하였음이라. 그러므로 저들은 저들 형제들의 멸망을 기뻐하였나니, 이 연고로 저들은 서서 왕의 양 떼를 흩고자 한 것이더라.

 

 Therefore they did not fear Ammon, for they supposed that one of their men could slay him according to their pleasure, for they knew not that the Lord had promised Mosiah that he would deliver his sons out of their hands; neither did they know anything concerning the Lord; therefore they delighted in the destruction of their brethren; and for this cause they stood to scatter the flocks of the king. 17:35.주님께서 모사이야에게 레이맨인들로부터 그의 아들들을 보호해 주시겠노라고 약속하신 사실을 모르는 저들은, 쉽게 저희들 뜻대로 저희중에 아무라도 암몬을 죽일 수 있으리라 생각하여 저를 겁내지 아니하였고, 주님을 전혀 알지 못하는 저들은 오히려 저희 동포들의 멸망을 기뻐하여 그런 마음으로 왕의 양들을 흩어버리려 하였더라. 
앨 17:36 그러나 암몬이 서서 그의 물매로 저들에게 돌을 던지기 시작하여, 참으로 큰 힘으로 저들 가운데 물매로 돌을 던지니, 이같이 암몬이 저들 중 몇을 죽이매 저들이 암몬의 힘에 놀라기 시작하였으나, 그럼에도 불구하고 저들 형제 중 죽임을 당한 자들로 인해 노하였던지라, 저들은 그를 거꾸러뜨리기로 결심하였더라. 그리하여 저들이 자기들의 돌로는 그를 맞힐 수 없음을 보고, 그를 죽이려 몽둥이를 가지고 나아왔더라.

 

 But Ammon stood forth and began to cast stones at them with his sling; yea, with mighty power he did sling stones amongst them; and thus he slew a certain number of them insomuch that they began to be astonished at his power; nevertheless they were angry because of the slain of their brethren, and they were determined that he should fall; therefore, seeing that they could not hit him with their stones, they came forth with clubs to slay him. 17:36.그러나 암몬이 그의 투석기로 세차게 저들에게 돌을 날려 몇 사람을 쓰러뜨림에 그 힘에 놀라기는 했으나, 저들의 동료 몇이 죽은 것에 노하여 암몬을 죽이리라고 결정한 후 돌로는 암몬을 어찌할 수 없었으므로 몽둥이들을 들고 쫓아 나왔으나, 
앨 17:37 그러나 보라, 암몬을 치려고 그 몽둥이를 치켜드는 자마다, 암몬이 자기 칼로 저들의 팔을 쳐 떨어뜨렸으니, 이는 그가 저들의 공격에 대항하여 자기의 칼날로 저들의 팔을 쳤음이라. 그리하여 저들이 놀라기 시작하여, 그의 앞에서 도망하기 시작하였나니, 참으로 저들의 수가 적지 아니하였으되, 그가 그 팔의 힘으로 저들로 도망하게 하였더라.

 

 But behold, every man that lifted his club to smite Ammon, he smote off their arms with his sword; for he did withstand their blows by smiting their arms with the edge of his sword, insomuch that they began to be astonished, and began to flee before him; yea, and they were not few in number; and he caused them to flee by the strength of his arm. 17:37.보라 암몬이 그의 칼로 저를 해하려 몽둥이를 들고 나선 자들의 팔을 모두 잘라버렸으니, 이는 저를 내려치려는 몽둥이를 막기 위함이라. 그들은 수가 적지 않았으나 크게 놀라 모두 달아나 버렸더라. 참으로 암몬은 팔 힘으로 저들을 모두 쫓아냈느니라. 
앨 17:38 이제 저들 중 여섯이 물매에 쓰러졌으되, 그가 그 칼로 저들의 지도자 외에는 아무도 죽이지 아니하였고, 또 그는 그를 치려고 들린 저들의 팔을 다 쳐서 떨어뜨렸나니, 그 수가 적지 아니하더라.

 

 Now six of them had fallen by the sling, but he slew none save it were their leader with his sword; and he smote off as many of their arms as were lifted against him, and they were not a few. 17:38.여섯은 돌에 맞아 쓰러지게 하였고, 수령은 칼로 쳐 죽였으며, 몽둥이를 들고 덤벼든 자는 그 수가 적지 않았으나 모두 팔을 잘라버렸느니라. 
앨 17:39 이에 저들을 멀리 쫓아버리고 나서, 암몬이 돌아오매 그들이 그 양 떼에게 물을 먹이고 양 떼를 왕의 초장으로 되돌린 다음, 암몬의 칼에 맞아 떨어진 바, 그를 죽이려 하던 자들의 팔들을 가지고 왕에게로 들어가되, 그들이 행한 일에 대한 증거로서 그 팔들을 가지고 왕에게로 들어갔더라.

 

 And when he had driven them afar off, he returned and they watered their flocks and returned them to the pasture of the king, and then went in unto the king, bearing the arms which had been smitten off by the sword of Ammon, of those who sought to slay him; and they were carried in unto the king for a testimony of the things which they had done. 17:39.이렇게 모두 쫓아버리고 나서 암몬이 돌아와 동료들과 함께 양떼들에게 물을 먹인다음, 암몬을 죽이려고 덤벼들었다가 그의 칼에 잘린 팔들을 모두 모아가지고 왕의 목장으로 돌아와, 저희가 행한 일을 왕께 고하려 칼에 잘린 팔들을 왕 앞으로 가져갔더라
