소개 1831년 3월 오하이오 주 커틀랜드에서 선지자 조셉 스미스를 통하여 주신 계시(교회사 1:166~167). 선지자는 성도들이 정착하기 위한 토지 획득의 절차 방식에 관하여 주께 물었다. 오하이오 주에 집합하라는 주의 명령에 순종하여 교회 회원이 미국 동부에서 이주하고 있음을 고려해 볼 때, 이것은 중요한 문제였다(37:1~3; 45:64 참조).

 

 Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, March 1831. HC 1: 166—167. The Prophet had inquired of the Lord as to the mode of procedure in procuring lands for the settlement of the saints. This was an important matter in view of the migration of members of the Church from the eastern United States, in obedience to the Lord’s command that they should assemble in Ohio. See 37: 1—3; 45: 64.  1831년 3월 오하이오주 커틀랜드에서 예언자 요셉 스미스를 통하여 주신 계시. 요셉은 성도들이 거주하기에 필요한 토지를 획득하는 절차 양식을 주께 여쭈었다. 이 일은 오하이오주에 집합하라는 주의 명령에 순종하여 뉴욕주로부터 교회 회원이 이주해 온 사실로 미루어 보아 매우 중대한 일이었다.-이미 오하이오주에 주거를 확정한 사람은 보유하고 있는 토지를 새로이 도착한 사람에게 분배해 줄 것.-백성들은 이 일에 있어서 관리 역원의 조언에 따라야 함.

 1—3, The saints in Ohio are to share their lands with their brethren; 4—6, The saints are to purchase lands, build a city, and follow the counsel of their presiding officers.  
교성 48:1 현재로서는 너희가 너희의 사정에 적합한 대로 너희가 거주하는 곳에 머물러 있어야 할 필요가 있느니라.

 

 IT is necessary that ye should remain for the present time in your places of abode, as it shall be suitable to your circumstances. 48:1.너희는 잠시동안 너희 머무는 곳에 머물러 있어야 할 필요가 있나니 그렇게 함이 너희 사정에 알맞을 것임이라. 
교성 48:2 그리고 너희에게 토지가 있는 만큼, 너희는 동부의 형제들에게 나누어 줄지니라.

 

 And inasmuch as ye have lands, ye shall impart to the eastern brethren; 48:2.너희가 토지를 가지고 있으면 이를 동쪽에서 온 형제들에게 나누어 주라. 
교성 48:3 또 너희에게 토지가 없는 만큼, 그들로 하여금 현재로서는 그들에게 좋게 여겨지는 대로 이 주변 지역에서 구입하게 할지어다. 이는 당분간 살 곳이 그들에게 반드시 필요함이니라.

 

 And inasmuch as ye have not lands, let them buy for the present time in those regions round about, as seemeth them good, for it must needs be necessary that they have places to live for the present time. 48:3.너희가 토지를 가지고 있지 아니하면 저들로 하여금 당분간 자기들이 좋게 생각하는 대로 이 지역 주변의 땅을 사게 하라. 지금 저들이 살 곳이 필요함이니라. 
교성 48:4 너희가 저축할 수 있는 모든 돈을 저축하며, 의로운 가운데 얻을 수 있는 모든 것을 얻음이 반드시 필요하나니, 이는 장차 기업을 위한 땅 곧 그 도시를 구입할 수 있게 하려는 것이니라.

 

 It must needs be necessary that ye save all the money that ye can, and that ye obtain all that ye can in righteousness, that in time ye may be enabled to purchase land for an inheritance, even the city. 48:4.너희는 할 수 있는 대로 모든 돈을 저축하며 또 의롭게 할 수 있는대로 돈을 얻어 불원간 상속의 땅 곧 도시를 구입할 수 있게 하라. 
교성 48:5 그 장소는 아직 계시될 것이 아니나, 너희 형제들이 동쪽에서 온 후 어떤 사람들을 지명할 것이요, 그들에게 그 장소를 알게 해 주리니, 곧 그들에게 그 장소가 계시될 것이니라.

 

 The place is not yet to be revealed; but after your brethren come from the east there are to be certain men appointed, and to them it shall be given to know the place, or to them it shall be revealed. 48:5.그 장소는 아직 너희에게 계시되지 아니하였으나 너희 형제들이 동쪽에서 온 후에 어떤 사람들을 임명하고 저들에게 그 장소를 알게 하리니, 곧 저들에게 계시하여 주리라. 
교성 48:6 그들은 토지를 구입하고 또 그 도시의 기초를 놓는 일을 시작하도록 지명될지니, 그때 너희는 각자 자기 가족에 따라, 자신의 형편에 따라, 그리고 너희가 이미 받았고 또 이후에 받게 될 율법과 계명에 좇아 교회의 제일회장단과 감독이 자신에게 정해 주는 대로 너희 가족과 함께 집합하기 시작할지니라. 참으로 그러하도다. 아멘.

 

 And they shall be appointed to purchase the lands, and to make a commencement to lay the foundation of the city; and then shall ye begin to be gathered with your families, every man according to his family, according to his circumstances, and as is appointed to him by the presidency and the bishop of the church, according to the laws and commandments which ye have received, and which ye shall hereafter receive. Even so. Amen. 48:6.저들은 토지를 구입하고 도시의 기초를 놓는 일을 시작하게 하는 임무에 지명되리니, 모든 남자는 자기 가족과 사정에 따라 교회의 대관장단과 감독이 저에게 지명하는 대로 너희가 이미 받았고 또 이후에 받게 될 율법과 계명에 좇아 가족과 함께 한 곳에 집합하기 시작하라. 참으로 그러하도다. 아멘.
