소개 1832년 3월 오하이오 주 하이럼에서 선지자 조셉 스미스에게 주신 계시(교회사 1:253~255). 선지자는 "경전 번역과 관련하여 나는 요한 계시록에 대한 다음의 설명을 받았다"고 기록하였다(교회사 1:253).

They are figurative expressions, used by the Revelator, John, in describing heaven, the paradise of God, the happiness of man, and of beasts, and of creeping things, and of the fowls of the air; that which is spiritual being in the likeness of that which is temporal; and that which is temporal in the likeness of that which is spiritual; the spirit of man in the likeness of his person, as also the spirit of the beast, and every other creature which God has created.		 77:2.문. 같은 절에 이야기된 네가지 생물은 무엇이오니까?

A. They are limited to four individual beasts, which were shown to John, to represent the glory of the classes of beings in their destined order or sphere of creation, in the enjoyment of their eternal felicity.		 77:3.문. 네 생물은 하나 하나의 생물에 한정되어 있는 것이오니까? 그렇지 않으면 어느 강(綱) 또는 목(目)을 나타내는 것이오니까?

답. 이들 네 생물은 각기의 생물에 한정되어 있으며, 요한에게 제시된 바 저들이 영원한 행복을 누릴 때에 저들에게 지정된 서열 곧 창조의 범위내에서 생물의 계급에 속하는 영광을 나타내느니라.

A. Their eyes are a representation of light and knowledge, that is, they are full of knowledge; and their wings are a representation of power, to move, to act, etc.		 77:4.문. 그 생물이 가진 눈과 날개는 무엇을 뜻하나이까?

답. 눈은 광명과 지식을 나타내나니, 곧 그들에게 지식이 충만해 있음을 나타내며 날개는 움직이며 행동하는 따위의 능력을 나타내느니라.

A. We are to understand that these elders whom John saw, were elders who had been faithful in the work of the ministry and were dead; who belonged to the seven churches, and were then in the paradise of God.		 77:5.문. 요한이 말한 이십 사 장로는 무엇을 뜻하나이까?

A. We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence.		 77:6.문. 요한이 본 일곱인으로 뒤를 봉한 책은 무엇이오니까?

답. 그 책에는 계시된 하나님의 뜻과 비밀과 사업이 실려 있으며 칠천년이 계속되는 동안 곧 현세가 존재하는 동안 이 지구에 대한 감추어진 하나님의 섭리가 실려 있음을 알 수 있느니라.

A. We are to understand that the first seal contains the things of the first thousand years, and the second also of the second thousand years, and so on until the seventh.		 77:7.문. 인봉된 일곱인은 무엇이오니까?

답. 처음 인은 처음 천년의 일이 실려 있고, 둘째도 둘째 천년의 일이 실려 있나니, 이같이 일곱째까지 그러한 것임을 알 수 있느니라.

We are to understand that they are four angels sent forth from God, to whom is given power over the four parts of the earth, to save life and to destroy; these are they who have the everlasting gospel to commit to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people; having power to shut up the heavens, to seal up unto life, or to cast down to the regions of darkness.		 77:8.문. 계시록 7장 1절에 기록된 네 분의 천사는 누구오니까?

We are to understand that the angel ascending from the east is he to whom is given the seal of the living God over the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, he crieth unto the four angels having the everlasting gospel, saying: Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And, if you will receive it, this is Elias which was to come to gather together the tribes of Israel and restore all things.		 77:9.문. 계시록 7장 2절에 있는 동방으로부터 올라오는 천사는 누구오니까?

We are to understand that those who are sealed are high priests, ordained unto the holy order of God, to administer the everlasting gospel; for they are they who are ordained out of every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, by the angels to whom is given power over the nations of the earth, to bring as many as will come to the church of the Firstborn.		 77:11.문. 이스라엘의 모든 지파로부터 십사만 사천 곧 각 지파에서 만 이천씩 인침을 받은 것은 무엇을 뜻하나이까?

답. 인침을 받은 자는 영원한 복음을 가르치며 의식을 집행할 하나님의 거룩한 신권에 성임된 대제사니, 장자의 교회에 오고자 하는 자 모두를 데려오기 위하여 땅의 나라들을 다스릴 권능을 받은 천사로부터 모든 국민과 혈족과 방언과 백성들 가운데서 성임된 자들임을 알 수 있느니라.

We are to understand that as God made the world in six days, and on the seventh day he finished his work, and sanctified it, and also formed man out of the dust of the earth, even so, in the beginning of the seventh thousand years will the Lord God sanctify the earth, and complete the salvation of man, and judge all things, and shall redeem all things, except that which he hath not put into his power, when he shall have sealed all things, unto the end of all things; and the sounding of the trumpets of the seven angels are the preparing and finishing of his work, in the beginning of the seventh thousand years—the preparing of the way before the time of his coming.		 77:12.문. 계시록 8장에 언급된 나팔 소리는 무엇을 뜻하나이까?
